Second time staying here and just as impressed this time round. The lady who owns/checks-in/cleans is very friendly and chatty. A tad dated but large airy room, plenty of pillows, tea/coffee etc and in the centre of Nairn. Left too early to sample breakfast unfortunately. Would definitely stay again.

The worst booking experience we’ve ever had…

We’d pre-booked weeks ago, via Hotels.com. On arrival our room was unavailable due to a maintenance issue, so we had no room, with no warning. The “receptionist” said our booking was therefore cancelled. Awful place anyway… the hotel reception was a tiny closet accessed by steep stairs up on the first floor, the entire place looked dire, the public loo we used in the hotel was dreadful - no hand wash or paper towels. The “receptionist” said WE needed to cancel the room on hotels.com ourselves as she couldn’t manage the process. On attempting to do that, the hotels.com website said we had to cancel it direct with the hotel as it was checkin day, so it was too late to do anything on the website. Awful service from Hotels.com, and the hotel itself. The worst booking experience we’ve ever had. I just hope that hotels.com do not attempt to take any money from me for this booking, which was cancelled by the hotel with absolutely no notice. We had to start searching round for an alternate accommodation at 5pm… not impressed!!

If you are looking for a last minute stay and book on the day book somewhere else. I turned up to find what looked like an abandoned hotel and kinda was. Rang the hotel and listened to the phone in a darkened room go off. Phoned Expedia who finally go ahold of someone (by this time 90mins) met her in reception where I was not exactly greeted in a welcoming fashion. Seemingly booking last minute and expecting someone to be in a hotel at some point was an intrusion to her life and she had someone in hospital and asked if I wanted to stay. Given the fact Expedia quickly came off the phone as they had made contact with the hotel I took my key and made my way to my room. Stains on the curtains stains on the headboards and half open mini shower vials in the bathroom. Single glazed windows allowed all the delightful noises to be heard from the Main Street below. If you want a 1970s decorated hotel this is the place for you. Would I book again? No

Host was very kind and friendly.
Room was clean. Older building so not the most soundproof is you are a light sleeper.

Property close to the beach and little shops and grocery.

We had dinner at a lovely pub beside the property. The “class room” pub was busy as it was Sat.

The pool table may have been operational but we couldn’t find the white ball.

Denise made breakfast to order ie. pouched, fried eggs for our group.

Parking is available on the street or behind the church close to the hotel.

This hotel is okay but you get what you get, the bar was closed, the restaurant was closed the outside fitting in with the town and looked nice.
Only a short walk from everything which was good.
Would I use this hotel again? Not if there was a better option but it would not be the end of the world if I had to use it again.

We had a wonderful stay at this charming, family-owned hotel. The location is excellent—just a short walk (about 10 minutes) to the beach, with plenty of shops and restaurants right down the road.

The hotel is run by a lovely older couple who made us feel very welcome, they were especially kind to our young daughter.

Breakfast each morning was a highlight—hearty, homemade, and served in a traditional dining room that reminded me of grandma’s house. It added a comforting, nostalgic touch to the whole experience.

If you’re looking for a place with character, warmth, and a great location, this is a perfect choice.

Comfortable but limited parking

Positives.
Comfortable well equipped large room for 2 night stay.
Convenient for local amenities.
Negatives.
Service was very slow at breakfast with only one lady taking orders, cooking and serving multiple guests.
Advertised as parking on-site, which there isn’t. Only 4 allocated spaces, 2 streets away, that were already taken when we arrived so I had to park on the street, Charging for on street parking starts at 9am. Given the slow service at breakfast I had to stop and go and move my car halfway through my breakfast.

We booked the Junior Suite as there was 2 adults and a child, however on arrival at 8 in the evening we were told the manager had let the room out to a couple staying a couple of nights the previous day.
The only availability was a double room and a Jaybee guest bed. Given the time and lack of availability elsewhere we reluctantly accepted. The bed, pillow, duvet and linen were brought to the room but we were expected to make the bed ourselves.
Room 12 was light and bright but the bathroom was very dated with black mold on the blind. There was also evidence of a water leak in the ceiling where the paper had split.
Breakfast was lovely but make sure you gove it plenty of time. We went down at 9 o'clock and it took 75 minutes from sitting down to receiving a cooked breakfast. The toilets around the dining room are disgusting.
We asked for a reduction on the price given the issues we had and it was rejected; we were told we could've gone elsewhere.

I was welcomed by the friendly owner Denise on arrival and given the top floor room that was clean and warm with window views over the roof tops of the quaint little town of Nairn.
Denise was friendly and helpful and I was happy to have a heater in my room, coming from ibiza summer, I wasn't ready for the cold of Scotland.

In the area, there are many thrift shops, some good restaurants, especially The Royal Bengal where I ate that night, and The Highland Weigh, just across the road, a lovely conscious cafe where I spend a few hours alongside the fire, drinking tea and eating a tasty healthy soup, made fresh peanut butter and bought organic nuts for my travels.

The Waverley was good value for money, easy to find, easy to access and a hotel I will return to if I go back to Nairn in the future.

Thank you

Thought it was a proper hotel with a reception desk or the like but had to find way in semi darkness to a kitchen, where it felt like an interruption to someone’s dinner.
Many flights of stairs through many doorways and halls. Heater wasn’t worth turning on, as it was only about 30cms high and though thermostatically controlled, kept turning off, yet the room was not warm and it was on the highest setting. A number of lights didn’t work. There was also a horrible smell along the staircases and halls. Not very inviting. Limited parking at back of a church 200 metres away.
Breakfast was the one highlight.

It took me 20 minutes to find someone to get checked in. I wasn’t even checked in, just given the keys to the last room. At first glance the room was a bit musty and dated but fine enough. Fast forward an hour later- I got in late and was exhausted and starving- then I see a sign that eating isn’t allowed in the rooms. Just not allowed? Meanwhile I get greeted with the biggest spider I’ve ever seen in my life, the accent pillows had huge stains, and not the outside, but the inside of BOTH beds had a ton of HAIR MADE INTO THEM. A hair or two happens, I accept that, people are human and they make the beds. This was disgusting. I slept on top of the covers and got the worst nights sleep.

We arrived about 8.30pm. The lady on reception was on the phone and then trying to check us in. There was a large glass panel above the door that kept the room very light. There were no teaspoons. Only 1 bath towel each. The toilet was blocked in the morning so i had to retrieve a toilet brush from along the corridor. We went to the dining room at 7.30 as advertised for breakfast, half of the things were laid out, i then had to try and find someone to bring extra items. 10 mins later a lady appeared and was amazed that we would want breakfast at 7.30..as it was not ready we had to leave and buy our breakfast elsewhere. Very much overpriced, old building and not greatly managed!

There was no hot water, mattresses were old and uncomfortable, windows rattled all night. Mentioned that their was no hot water and was told to wait till 0630 in the morning. Really don't think you should have to wait for hot water, we waited and still none. The staff didn't want to acknowledge that their could have been an issue. Positive: Excellent location close to station and town centre. Close to many food outlets. Breakfast nicely served.
Negative: No obvious reception area - I walked in and around and then out wondering if there was another entrance. I then rang and met the staff member in a corridor to get my key. Bed mattress needs changing - right side just a 'hole' to sink into. No hot water in shower - waited 10 minutes and still only got cool.

We couldn’t stay here!

re Waverley Hotel. Nairn

We arrived at the property after 150 mile journey through beautiful Scottish scenery.
The receptionist wasn't about and shouted down to my wife that she would be with her shortly. My wife was given a key to view the room and in shock came back to be to view it also.
The room was very scruffy with a worn dirty grey carpet that one's shoes stuck to while walking. The furniture was 1960s vintage and very tatty. Included were two old rickety chairs with grimy cushions. Probably the most gross and revolting was the light coloured padded headboard with black marks outlining where greasy sweaty heads had made contact. The en-suite was manly modern. The smell in the room effected our nasal membranes and I have been wheezed since and my wife has felt sick.
Neither of us could stay in what looked like a Doss house.
We informed the lady that we couldn't stay because of the state of the room
We couldn't find accommodation in the area this busy August weekend. As such we had no other choice to turn round and drive the 150 miles home.

It started out bad and only got worse. We showed up for check-in around 5:30 pm and, after climbing two flights of stairs, found nobody around for reception. After waiting well over 10 minutes, a woman showed up to give us our key. When, after another two flights of stairs, we got to our room, the initial look of the room was promising. The wallpaper and bedding looked lovely. The bathroom, not so much; the toilet had a pubic hair on the seat and the shower had hair in it. I was disappointed and immediately sent a message to the property cancelling my second night that I had booked. Had I not been exhausted from the long drive from Skye (and the many steps), I would have packed up and left that night. There was no \"restaurant\" as advertised, so we left to find dinner and enjoy Nairn Beach. At bedtime, I noticed there was a window above the room door that prevented a totally dark room. Next morning, bright and early, we went to check out. I explained to the same woman who gave us the room key the previous evening that I had cancelled my second night, not because of the many stairs, but because of the dirty bathroom. The woman asked to see pictures, which I had taken, and then said she personally cleaned all the rooms herself and those hairs were not there before I got the room, accusing me of planting them. I, of course, took offense to this and we \"had words.\" I am a nice person and rarely confront people, but this was ridiculous. I would definitely not recommend this place.

Very old fashioned, beware of all the stairs. At breakfast there was only one person serving, it took over an hour to get an inedible meal . On one morning I asked for crispy bacon it eventually arrived it was so hard and dry that it could be broken rather than cut. The next day I asked for bacon and egg again but this time it arrived barely cooked and the egg was disgusting. The only redeeming feature was that the room was clean.

Property was very dated but bedroom was spotless and comfortable breakfast was good cooked from scratch but because the lady was running the hotel herself you had a long wait to get it maybe another staff member would be helpful you could sit up to at least 20mts before anything came where normally you would have tea and toast first while waiting for your breakfast but nice when it eventually came

Turned up to the hotel to find they apparently didn't have my booking, had no rooms available and were emphatic about taking 'no responsibility' on what would clearly be a mix up in part from their side.

Denise was incredibly rude. Booked via expedia 2 separate rooms. 1 suite, 1 double as this is what they had available. Completed the online pre check in information stating times and all seemed to be going very well until we arrived. The property is up stairs which isnt in issue but upon walking upstairs no clear reception area and instead Denise came out with a book asking if we had a booking under the name Mackintosh - we had two under different names, neither mackintosh. Upon given our names there was a huff and a sigh from Denise and then said well i only have one of the names booked in and in her words this happens all the time. The name she had was mine and this should have been for the suite - she said no, you have a double and thats all she had left which is not suitable really for two travelling 30 males who had been driving for over 9 hours that day. When questioned about why the suite wasnt available, her response was \"you only paid a hundred quid\" which is the same as the double as if this was our error and we should just take what she had.

She continued to moan about the website being terrible, this happening all the time and not her fault or problem and she is taking to responsibility. As a host, a terrible attitude to have towards paying guests. When asked how to get a refund, she became even more rude even unwilling to give her name. Saying we should phone \"them\" and they will know who she is.

Strongly urge to avoid at all costs!

We had to ask about the parking and we had to park behind the church. There was limited dining we had to eat elsewhere. The continental breakfast was limited but the poached eggs on toast was good, the bar wasn't open. It took a while for the hot water to come through the shower. It needs to be updated but overall the stay was good.

I booked this property at 10am and arrived at 7:15pm. When i arrived there was no one to process my booking for 15 minutes and when she did arrive she told me that she wasn't expecting me and after some \"back n forth\" she admitted that she had been too busy to check her booking system with Expedia and had given my 2 rooms to \"walk ins\". So there was no room available for me and my colleague. There was no remorse or apology from the waverly. Because of this hotel, I had to spend the next 90 minutes sat outside the waverly on the phone to Expedia to resolve this. Expedia managed to find me 2 rooms 75 minutes away which meant we arrived at our room at 10:30pm with no food available and having to be up early as we were so far away from the location we needed to be at, so no time for breakfast either. To say this establishment had a negative effect on my day would be an understatement. I wont make the mistake of trying to book the Waverly the next time I'm in Scotland

Awesome place to stay in Nairn.

Check is a bit tricky only because Denise is busy doing all jobs at her hotel. Just be patient, you’ll find her in the hotel somewhere. She is a very sweet, hard working, beautiful host and she’ll do everything to make you stay pleasant. Would definitely stay again if in Nairn again. Great location.

Disappointing

At check in we were handed 2 sets of room keys from a biscuit tin. No paperwork checked etc. We booked 2 ensuite rooms with Kingsize bed and a single bed. We got one room correct and the other was 2 single beds and a broken camp bed. When i queried our booking, this was dismissed and we were told thats what's available. The guest house is old fashioned with a musty aroma. It appears its a one man job from checkin in, monitoring, cleaning and cooking. The bar was closed throughout our stay but the children did get to play with the pool table. Breakfast was lovely but there is a lengthy wait as its cooked drom scratch by one person. Parking is outside and its not free during peak hours.

Terrible visit

Upon arrival at the evening of the booking, I was told there were no rooms remaining (this is despite having booked and paid in advance). I showed my booking confirmation and my passport to the lady at check-in, to which she responded \"oh I recall seeing this but we have no rooms available so you'll have to go somewhere else.\" Given that we arrived in the evening, all other hotels in the town were fully booked...

So i don't really know where to start... i get that the building is old but the rooms could fo with some renovation. Also, there is no lift available in the hotel so i had to carry on the stairs my 2 years old and luggage to the very top floor....as for the clealiness of the place i was disgusted...dust everywhere, bird poo on the curtains and window sill....also in certain areas of the hotel there was a strage smell like dust combined with mould and something else i couldn't really figure out what was. Also no proper heating in the room just a small electric radiator that was leaking oil....
Regarding the breakfast i can't comment as we never stayed for it, but to be fair i would never eat from a place like that.... also paying over £100 for one night to stay in that is a joke....
Overall the experience was terrible.....i will know for furtire to certainty avoid this place....

Excellent value for the money spent.

When we arrived, the place looked empty and it wasnt obvious who to contact, until i heard a TV in a room left of reception and was then able to check-in.

Upon checking out it wasn't obvious where to go for breakfast and couldn't see anyone - thankfully a lady came out to tell us to pop over to the dining room (which is down the corridor on the right side (past the bar).

It was a full Scottish breakfast, which was excellent.

I think a little kiosk at the front reception - where you can message the person working on the day, would be useful , so atleast guests know someone is aware you are on-site.

Negatives
- Small TV in room
- Dirty kettle in room
- Weak showers

Horrible experience

I wasn’t even able to check in to have my stay with my family, arrived at night when it was cold. Ok arrival, nobody was expecting us even, rang the buzzer, knocked on the door for some time - no answer. Called numerous times, with no answer and then finally someone answered and they hanged up on me. As I was ringing, I could hear the phone ring inside the building and even saw 2 people look down on us from the second floor. A disaster of a booking, had to look nervously for a new booking at the middle of the night.

Stay away from this place

Nobody was around for check in. Nobody answered the phone when we called the number. Ultimately we were unable to check in and stay here . . . which is probably for the best because if the outside and reception area is any indication of how the rooms are, I don't think I would have felt very comfortable anyway.
