A bit depressing

The hotel was old. It looked great from the lobby, but the rooms are not the same way. I changed my room. The bathtub in the first room doesn't drain well and gets clogged. The second room's drainage worked well. Both bathrooms were not clean. Sheets and towels were clean. The rooms felt dark, old, unkept, etc.

Classic colonial hotel has seen much better days

Staff at front desk have little authority to help guests. Their knee-jerk reaction is to ask for a fee. Or they have to call the manager. Something that the hotel has no control over is the loud clashing music from across the street at a restaurant hub. You NEED ear plugs. Pool is nice as is the lobby. Rooms are dated. There’s a kettle but no coffee or cups - symbolic of way hotel is run.

Need some improvement

The hotel service was pretty standard. No disposable razor n dental kit provided. Lighting was a bit too dim in the room.

This hotel has lost its gems over the years though it is still quite stunning. Location was quite good with easy access to public transport (song thaew n tuk tuk). The mall next to it (Kad Suan Kaew) is equally tired. Breakfast was quite good though.

What is quite unacceptable was the number of baby cockroaches that we killed in our bedroom. This really need urgent attention.

Saw a small cockroach by my dresser and my wife got all concerned about the electrical socket not having a plate. Our Chinese group at our floor would leave their bedroom doors open and make noise in the hallways but other than that, still good value for the price.

Hotel room with plenty of small cockroches running

My room number is 419, other than the ceiling above the shower had yellowise colour and paint is out.
there are many small cockroches running in the toilet and dressing table.
The lamp beside the bed is on and off while you accidently touch the lamp.
furthermore the wrabedrop is so dusty and the socket below dressing table is half dropped out.

Bed is too soft.

Old Splendor With a Few Cracks

This is an old hotel that has kept itself in good shape. Most important to me was the new gym facility which is excellent. The rooms are large and comfortable. Few small things such as small chips in plates in dining room and a faucet in the bathroom that had seen better days. Right next door to Khad Suan Khaw which affords loads of shopping opportunities.

The \"Grand\" Old Lady of Kad Suan Kaeo ...

The Grand Old Lady of Kan Suan Kaeo is ... not quite so grand any more. Don't get me wrong, the lobby is impressive. The image of the hotel from the street is imposing. But she needs a lot of tender care and attention.

The mattresses are worn out. The plumbing leaks. Doors won't open right or stay open/closed. Room outside doors will only slam.

But there is something about the old lady that would make you want to stay there -- if only they fixed her up a bit.

Comfortable, convenient option outside old city

I have stayed here several times over the past year or so. Overall, I have found my stay good value for the price paid. As a previous viewer has pointed out, this hotel is well kept and clean. In addition, a good effort has been made to renovate, if not transform, some of the rooms. I stayed in a middle range - that is, deluxe - room, which had new wood laminate flooring and clean new wallpaper. These enhancements made a significant difference.

The swimming pool was renovated last year and is a decent size, as is the fitness centre to which guests also have access.

The buffet breakfast provides a good range of options and the hot dishes are varied on a daily basis.

The location is convenient for Nimmanhemin and the new Maya Lifestyle Mall, and at the same time it is only about 10 minutes in one of the small red passenger trucks to the old city. You can hail one of these from opposite the hotel. There is also a nice older style mall right next door with plenty of dining options.

All in all, I have enjoyed a comfortable and relaxing stay here.

Hotel next to a shopping mall

I have stayed in this hotel for many times because it is next to a mall and in a very good location. The hotel itself is rather dated but well kept and clean. The breakfast is good. The staff are nice. Public transport to other places in Chiangmai is always available. Nimmanhaemin road, where all the trendy restaurants and shops are, is actually within walking distance. I have no hesitation recommending this hotel for anyone visiting Chiangmai.

Needs some renovation

One of the rooms that was first assigned to us was extremely unsatisfactory for a \"deluxe\" room - the view was the back of a stairwell, and room was run down. For another room, we were upgraded to executive (as no other rooms were available), and decided to pay for an executive upgrade for the first room. The hotel was probably great when it was newer, but other than the executive level, the rooms need to be renovated. Wifi was very disappointing, because of the slow speed. Connections kept dropping. Even the paid internet service in the lobby was very slow. The hotel should also review its policy of taking deposit for a second key, it is pretty much standard now to issue 2 keys when there is more than 1 occupant in the room.

This was our 2nd time to stay at the Orchid Hotel. It is more than sufficient for offering you a comfortable place to stay, with some extra value in the new exercise gym and large pool. Overall, our experience there was good, and we'd recommend this hotel to others who might want to stay on that side of town.

Stayed 4 nights in an executive room. As a few other people has mentioned the hotel just needs a bit of an update (which going by the signs around the place they are working on) A few things made the room feel less comfortable. Stains on floor. And the Tap on basin wasnt fixed so moved every time it was turned on making it hard to use. As with most beds in Thailand they are firm! One morning the water cleaning system was delayed and so we couldn't use water and when it came back on we had black water coming out of taps and into toilet. Not very pleasant when you want to have a shower! The hotel did apologize and leave a plate of fruit. The breakfast buffet was average. The pool was pleasant. The nights we stayed were quite noisy with functions down stairs you could hear even on the top floor. I would expect most hotels to have an info booklet on services provided but there was little information in the room. Eg. If you wanted to use the pool you first Had to work out what floor pool was on and go there to find out what the hours were. No information on what's in the area or the fact that there were regular free shuttles to some places from the hotel. For the price of the executive room I would have expected more.

Grand old hotel full of mystery, but dated.

The room we were first given for our 25 day stay had mold in the bathroom. I am unaware if they could have found us another standard room, as that room was so lacking that I asked to rent a deluxe room. Hardy any better, but at least it did not have mold on the ceiling. Other then the staff member who booked us into a moldy room, I must say the staff was outstanding and very attentive. I would give the facilities a one, but the restaurant and the room service food was excellent, and a great value for the money. The gym and hopefully the pool with the missing tiles are suppose to be renovated, and they really need it. I feel that most of the good standard rooms go to the many tour groups who use this hotel, possibly explaining why they would give `a 25 days stay a moldly room. Sometimes these tour groups makes parking difficult, but I never lacked for a space to park. The location is perfect with a small mall next door, and many restaurants a walk or a red cab drive away. You will find that many meetings, weddings, etc., are held at this facility. This is truly a grand hotel that at one time hosted the King and Queen of Thailand, The Emperor of Japan and his wife, and Prince Charles and Diane. There also appears to be many top level meetings held sub rosa at this grand old hotel. I often spotted diplomatic cars from China, and Cambodia, and saw vehicles come and go with a police escorts. Fix up the rooms and I would recommend this hotel for friends.

Badly in need of updating...

The hotel is certainly not 3.5 stars anymore. The pictures in the lobby imply that it was fantastic when Princess Diana visited, but that's been a while... It badly needs updating - from improving the bathrooms to fixing the missing tiles in the swimming pool. Further, the front desk staff were shockingly incapable of helping us with basic questions. The concierge was materially better, for what that's worth, but he was available only during the regular work day.

Mosquitos, bugs and non-opening windows

Mosquitos everywhere in the rooms (we had 3, same story in all of them). One of my travelling partners had an encounter with a cockroach in the bathtub. None of the windows opened, so you couldn't air the rooms. Played loud music preventing me from sleep. Forgot my key one day, had to wait 20 minutes for someone to bring up the key (they didn't, have to go back to the reception and ask again). Might have been a nice place once, but it's days are over. All in all a really bad experience, from what we thought was a 4 star hotel.

one of their staff working as customer services officer is very kind , she used her mobile to help me dail a local number to confirm my tour booking .

the Hotel is close to the shopping mall , where you can find lots of food and you can find the supermarket also .This is very convenient .The 7-11 is located in the opposite side And outside the hotel , it is easy to find tuk tuk and taxi .

many seat in the Lobby , you can sit down while waiting .And one sad thing for the Hong Kong people is my room no is 214 which means `easy to die ' in Hong Kong or Chinese society , they didn't alert the cultural difference .The breakfast is average .

I stayed here for 1 night after being recommended this hotel through a friend. I was very disappointed. The rooms where very old and in need of repair. The worst possible thing of all was that there where NO 3 pin power sockets in the room at all. My girlfriend couldn't even use her Thai plug hair dryer never lone charge my phone or electronics.
The only real good thing about this hotel is the great location (next to a great shopping mall) and the swimming pool.

このホテルに滞在するのは今度で3回目になります。
ショッピング、観光の中心となるニマンヘマン、旧市街へも徒歩圏内で立地条件はとても良好です。
ホテルの施設は老朽化が目立ちますが、スタッフはとてもフレンドリーで、また老舗ホテルなのでロビーもとても居心地が良いです。

古いホテルなので、あちこち綺麗とは言えない。
中国人ツアー客が多く、廊下で大声で話すだけではなく、廊下を挟んだ向かいの部屋での大声の会話も聞こえる。

水回りの老朽化が著しく、トイレは一回のフラッシュでは流れない。洗面台もバスタブも栓がなく汚い排水溝が丸見え。

かつて、日本の天皇陛下も泊まられたようで、その時にお土産として渡されたシルバーのスプーンが飾られているが、幼稚園生の作ったような日の丸の周りにシルバーウエアが並んでいるが、磨かれておらず、かつケースも汚い。

タイの王様も来たようだが、その時の写真がエレベーターホールに飾ってあるが、その額縁もガタガタに並べられており、お国柄なのか、このホテルのだらしなさなのかわからないが、残念である。

更に、ドアマンらしき顰めっ面の男性は、何かを聞いてもイライラした様子で受け答えをする。

フロアーのカーペットは据えた匂いがして、各階の廊下やエレベーターホールはエアコンをかけないから、匂いと暑さでげんなりする。
セントラル空調も更新せずに、各部屋に小型エアコンをつけて誤魔化しているため、そうなってしまうのだろうが、残念極まりない。

手をしっかり入れれば、いい立地であるし、価値はありそうなものだが、目先の利益にしか目がいっていないのだろう。

隣のショッピングモールも、今や廃墟となりうすきみ悪い。

価格が、少しリーズナブルだが、大して変わらない値段で、安普請ではあるが新しいホテルがゴロゴロある。

部屋の中で行き来ができるドアがついており、防音の配慮がされていない構造なのかもしれないが、そうゆう部屋は他人どおしの宿泊者には使用しないでほしい。

Chinese group tourists are unacceptably noisy during nights and early mornings. I told front desk to do something for it and it worked only for 10 min.
Facility is very old and dirty especially in the bathrooms.

有料のスナックは置いてあったが、無料のコーヒー等のセットは無く、勿論コーヒーカップもない、自前のコーヒーはガラスのコップで飲んだ。
朝食は以前の場所は工事中で狭く、メニューも減っていた。
貸出の傘も無く、何度かリピートしていたが次回は考えようと思う。

隣部屋で話す内容がハッキリ聞こえる程に煩く、昨年2月に宿泊した時も同様でした。
1階ロビーはロイヤルファミリーが利用されただけあり趣きのある、歴史を感じさせる重厚感で最も落ち着く場所

シットリとした落ち着いた環境

建物施設全体の古さは否めない。タイでは往々にして｢古い＝汚い｣の構図が見られるが、このホテルに関しては、そこそこメンテはやっている模様。天皇陛下が滞在されたようだが（エレベーター前に写真が掲示）、陛下がこのホテルに？の意外感はある。室内のアメニティには少々不満が残る（歯ブラシはない）。ただし、金額が金額だけに文句付けるのは失礼かな。人民の集団も宿泊しておらず､静寂な環境は保てた。

大型ショッピングモール隣接はよい。水と電気ポットはあるが、
珈琲セットがない。自前でお茶等は持ってきたが、ガラスコップのみなので、熱湯で割れる恐れもアリ、お茶は断念した。

ホテル側の問題ではないかもしれないが、サイトではcheck in09:00～と表示されてあった。が、実際は15:00～で、困惑した。朝食会場の説明等もなく、15時きっかりにチェックイン開始。

以前はチェンマイに昔からある古い格式高いホテルでした。セイフティーボックスが部屋の中にあって良かった。

WIFI環境が悪い。ホテル、持参した４GWIFI電波状況が悪い。
ポータ授業員男性のしつこい観光の誘いとマナーが悪かった。
朝食がいまひとつ。
