We loved this hotel the location was amazing so close to everything. The staff were amazing and helpful. The only warning to note is there are stairs and no elevator, the stairs are steep and if you are travelling all the way from Australia and likely travelling with large luggage the you may want to ask for ground floor in booking or make sure you have someone to help get the luggage upstairs we have to go up 3 flights of stairs not easy. Doable but not easy. There is no air conditioner but they did have a pedestal fan. Apart from that highly recommend the hotel.

Great location. Arrived late and place was locked but found directions to another hotel to gain access. (complexity for our trip)
room was lovely and warm. Building was old and charismatic but there is a stair free newer annexe.
Breakfast was a buffet style- cold meats cheeses etc- delicious.
Hosts were lovely and friendly.

Everything about our experience here was amazing!! Bruges is the cutest town. This hotel was in walking distance of everything we wanted to see there, it was very convenient! The room was very comfortable and clean and the service was incredible! Bart went above and beyond to make sure our stay was perfect in every way! We traveled to many hotels on this trip and Hotel Anselmus was the BEST hotel we stayed at in Europe.

The parking for the Hotel was the only horrible experience. If you weren't lucky enough for a parking spot about four blocks away you will end up with a spot with a 15-20 minute walk back. Brugge is not set up to accommodate people with vehicles.

A family run old B&B in great location

Seems like a senior couple run the hotel without any help, as we have never seen any worker other than them. The gentleman was extremely nice and adorable, and we immediately thought a person like him made you feel great staying there. Room is small which is typical Europe, with old windows, no elevator and facilities in the hotel. Breakfast included was ok. So it is more like a family run B&B and a quiet street which is walk-in distance from main areas of attractions. The two major negatives things are noisy floor because of the old wood, and a turning staircase with overly narrow woods each step. The staircase could be dangerous to people with physical disabilities and with heavy luggage. Overall I can stay there again as we can handle those problems.

Beautiful original features, large windows, comfortable beds. The owners spoke a variety of languages and were ready with a map of the town and tips for the best places to hire bikes etc. Breakfast was a delicious cold buffet with excellent coffee.
No lift and some steep stairs which were tricky with the cases. Some slightly unusual moving of personal objects during daily servicing of the rooms, but the rooms were spotless as a result!
Centrally located on a quiet street but just a 5 minute walk to the Markt square. Would definitely visit again.

A quiet, cozy hotel close to the Markt in Brugge. The room was clean and comfortable. Within walking distance to all major sites but quiet enough at night. staff were helpful. Breakfast was fine - nothing special - but not a big deal when you are surrounded by great restaurants and waffle shops. We would stay again.

Perfect pre-Christmas break

Fabulous little hotel in the most perfect location. Spotlessly clean throughout. Large comfortable rooms. Continental breakfast offered plenty of choice. The owners were lovely and very helpful. Bruges magical at this time of year with all the Christmas decorations and lights, although very busy everywhere on Saturday - was much less crowded on Thursday and Friday. Will definitely stay at Anselmus Hotel again next time I visit Bruges.

Wonderful, central, family friendly hotel!

This hotel was absolutely amazing; the pictures don't do it justice! You're within an easy walking distance of EVERY site you'd want to see, including De Halve Maan Brewery. Breakfast was delicious and the owners very friendly, bringing you a copper pot of coffee specifically for your table. My husband and I were traveling with our 1 year old son and we had everything we needed for him, infant bed, tub, high chair, etc. I cannot say enough about this hotel! I highly recommend it to anyone wanted to experience Bruges.

The hotel is less than 5 minutes from the Markt square and only 25 minutes walk from the train station, so absolutely ideal for a long weekend visit to see all the sights of the city. The room was a good size and comfortable and we were made very welcome. Continental breakfast was included in the price and was good. There are restaurants all around and, as an unexpected bonus, there was a bar with live rock music literally around the corner.

Wonderful family run hotel.

We were very pleased we selected Anselmus for our 3-day stay in Bruges. The location was absolutely perfect - close to the town, restaurants, bars, etc. but on a quiet street. The included breakfast buffet was fresh and ample. The rooms were typically on the small side for a European hotel but very clean and comfortable and the bathroom was modern. We were worried that there was no air conditioning, but a tall oscillating fan in the room made it comfortable for sleeping despite the warm summer temps. By far the best thing about this hotel is the proprietor Ronnie and his wife, who are so warm, helpful and accommodating. I would not consider staying anywhere else for a return visit.

My two essentials, location and cleanliness were both delivered upon. The location was superb, easy walking distance to main sights yet we weren't disturbed by late night noise at all. I travelled with my two adult children (20,19) and we weren't looking for extensive hotel facilities so this suited us perfectly. Just an honest, clean hotel from which we could easily explore and return for a good nights sleep. Breakfast buffet was ample, an added bonus, and the dining conservatory & courtyard were lovely.

Lovely hotel, 2 minutes from 'downtown' sites.

Great little hotel. Feels like B&B. Great care and attention by owner upon check-in. In European tradition, things are small, but the bathroom was excellent. Seemed to have been newly renovated. Great water pressure and shower. Wifi in rooms and throughout facility - never any issues with it being slow or not functioning.
Parking in safe off-site facility. We parked the car upon our arrival and left it there (at 20 € p/d) till we left.

Quiet and quaint hotel near Belfry

Loved the hotel and the closeness to the Belfrey plaza. On a side street that was very quiet. Proprieters were very helpful and friendly. I do find two twin beds instead of a queen bed to be odd. This might be colloquial. The only thing I would want to change is to have a firmer mattress. If in Bruges again we would definitely return to this hotel.

There were 3 adults sharing a room which was very adequate. However, one of the beds was not quite as comfortable; perhaps it is intended for a child. The bathroom was very modern; the breakfasts were yummy with lots or variety. There would be not hesitation to recommend this hotel as it is a 5-10 minute walk from the Belfort & Market. Very important to my fellow travellers & myself, this hotel was very quiet!

The husband and wife team running this hotel could not have been more helpful. We were travelling with a 6 month old and our room was well suited to our needs, plant of space for a travel cot, and a large bathroom with a bath. Breakfast was lovely, room was cleaned impeccably every day. Great location in the centre of the city. We arrived by car so paid for parking, which was a stones throw from the hotel and well worth it.

The hotel was wonderful,very clean, quiet and beautiful. The owners were extremely nice and welcoming, the last day we were leaving very early to catch our train and since we were missing breakfast they prepared us a lunch to go. We were really comfortable there and we definitely recommend it for the future.

At the check-out we were asked to pay for the city taxes, which we did not expect since we prepaid but all was fine.

This small family run hotel was very comfortable, friendly, and close to the center square. Breakfast, which was included in the room price, was quite adequate. There is no elevator, so we were happy to be only one floor up the narrow winding staircase. They do have wifi, but you need your own device. I would recommend this hotel.

We arrived in Bruges early evening, nothing was too much trouble, we were given somewhere safe to store our luggage while the owner took us to the storage units where our bikes were to be securely parked, we were given discount leaflets and a little information about where's best to eat and where to avoid, we'd had problems with one of the bikes enroute, (it was a Ducati) and they were happy to lend us tools to help fix it, the hotel was lovely, the people were very friendly, the food was excellent and everything was so clean, tidy and just so.. We have already told them we will be visiting again next year and may even stay for longer. Couldn't have asked for a better start to our holiday.

Cute quiet little hotel in close proximity to the main squares, just 3 min walk away from Burg.
Very clean throughout with good facilities and nicely decorated. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room but can be arranged on request. Staff are very friendly and pleasant and speak perfect English and go out of their way to help you and make you feel welcome.
Breakfast is good (tasty pastries, breads, egg, hams and cheeses as well as cereal, fruits and yoghurts) and is in a beautifully sunny room that really makes you feel like you're on holiday.
Well priced for Bruges and the location too, would recommend and would stay here again.

The hotel could hardly be better located; within the walls of the old city, everything was an easy walk away.
The hotel itself had everything we needed, the breakfast was plentiful, the staff friendly and the room (ours was a triple) was of a good size. The only criticism we had was that there wasn't a proper shower, merely a hand-held shower attachment as part of the bath.

This hotel is in a perfect location for exploring Bruges, close to the centre and walking distance to all attractions. The hotel is a lovely old style hotel with a warm and welcoming host. The room was clean and comfortable and adequate for our family of 2 Adults 2 children. Ordinarily I like tea and coffee making facilities as I need a coffee in a morning however breakfast is served from 8pm and the coffee served was delicious. Apparently you can request tea/coffee facilities if you want. Breakfast was continental and a good choice with the added extra offer of a boiled Egg which was delicious. We were able to leave our luggage before check-in on arrival and after checking out and it was looked after for us until we returned from exploring Bruges ready to head back to the ferry. The hotel was quaint and reasonably priced.

Great location

Went to Bruges for a long weekend and stayed in the Anselmus for 3 nights. The twin room was of an adequate size and clean. The 2 single beds had very soft mattresses (be careful when initially sitting down!) but were comfortable and I didn't have any problems sleeping. The door to the ensuite was a folding screen which could be difficult to pull back and forth as the magnetic strip was quite secure. The ensuite was clean and pretty spacious - the only disappointing issue is there was no shower curtain or screen so you have to squat to have a shower (as the unit is low over the bathtub), or end up spraying outside the tub if you want to stand up and use the hand held shower. The breakfast was a cold continental buffet - more than adequate with cold meats, cheeses, cereals and pastries. You also had the option of a boiled egg with your tea or coffee. The owners were lovely and very helpful. Free wifi in the rooms which is always a bonus. The hotel had lots of nice original features and the reception was like walking into a museum. The best thing about the hotel was the location - literally a few minutes walk from the Burg. Very convenient for exploring Bruges by foot!

Friendly hotel in centre of Bruges

The Anselmus is a good 3 star hotel, with clean modern furnishings throughout.

The hotel owner was very helpful and accommodating during our stay. When the owner realised my partner would have difficulty climbing stairs, he quickly moved us from a second floor room to an equally good one of the group floor.

Tip for other guests - there is no lift and some very steep stairs in this hotel. If you have difficulty in getting up stairs let the hotel know in advance and they are happy to allocated a ground floor room.

Quaint Couples Retreat

We were about 45 minutes early but had no problem checking in early. The decor of the hotel made us feel that we had arrived in Belgium as there was an abundance of antiques but it wasn't stuffy or cramped.
The only difficult part was the stairs to our room as they were steep and quite narrow. Breakfast was plentiful and very nicely arranged. The Anselmus was very conveniently located and it was an easy walk into the center of town.

The owner and his staff were very freindly and helpful. The hotel was immaculate and in excellent condition for a building built in the 1600's, Our only issue was that our four bed suite was on the third floor and there is no elevator. The owner helped us carry the bags up and down.

We had stayed here before as a couple and returned with our granddaughter in a family room. Only downside was lots of stairs to the room so check if stairs are a problem to you. We had a big clean comfortable room. Everything worked. Bonus was good bright lighting for my ageing eyes. Breakfast was very good in a pleasant breakfast room with a few tables outside in a small courtyard garden. The staff were friendly and helpful. Most places in Brugge easily accessible from the hotel. We would certainly return.

The is lovely hotel with an outstanding location. It is only about two blocks from the main plaza of Bruges. Hotel is very clean and rooms were a nice size. The daily morning breakfast was very good with freshly good cooked boiled eggs, if you desire. I would stay again if I visit Bruges again. Recommended. Friendly, family-run hotel. Lovely welcome on arrival, with local info. on restaurants etc, & city map, and intro for discount on the 3-day 'Musea Brugge' card (12Euros p/p gives free entry to 14 sights/museums etc). Bkd a superior room which was spotlesslesly clean, very comfortable, spacious, quiet & overlooked courtyard garden. Great buffet breakfast; lovely boiled egg to order. Excellent 3* hotel so close to central museums, The Burg, Market Square, etc. & 'ramparts walk'. 30 mins/ish walk to departure point for the boat trip to Damme (passing the Church of our Lady of the Potterie enroute). Pleasant enough trip to small but pretty little town. Get map & info from Tourist Office as this was the only info we found on the history of the town - see the little museum of St John's Hospital & the Church of our Lady. 4 restaurants can recommend: 't Oud Handbogenhof, about 10-15 mins walk from hotel at 6 Baliestraat, great food in an old pub (1634) Nr St Giles Church. 'Cambrinus' 5 mins from hotel at 19 Philipstrockstraat. 'Laamsche Pot' about 15/20 mins from hotel on Helmstr. off Noordzandstraat - bit more upmarket. 'De Mosselkelder' about 10 mins from hotel on little square close to fish market. Downside to all the eateries is no jugs of tap water, they'll only sell you bottled water. Good bar with food 'Marieke van Brugghe' opposite Church of our Lady on GruutHusestr. The Official City Guide 2.50 euros great info and self-guided walks.

A solid 3* choice.

Rather quirky and very odd-shaped room. Beds and bedding a little basic - narrow, low, blankets only and lumpy pillows. Room not particularly modern or slick, although communal areas pleasant. Very good continental breakfast (+ boiled egg). Excellent location and close to centre. Good service.

Perfect.

I would not stay anywhere else in Bruges. the Anselmus is in a great position near the city centre, the accommodation is superb (good-sized, spotlessly-clean rooms), very good breakfasts and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful.

Friendly owner and his wife made us feel very welcome. Family room lacked storage space (no drawers for clothes) and you need to specifically request tea and coffee making facilities although I understand this is quite standard in Belgian hotels.

Can't wait to go back

Hotel was just as discribed. Owners and staff very friendly and helpful.
Very close to main square and all other amenaties.
We also hired a Garage for parking and found this very useful.
I would recommend this hotel and area, and hope to return soon.

Anselmus Hotel - A homey place

Felt like we were staying with best friends, who were readily available to answer any questions we had and take care of our needs. It is like a home away from home and we felt welcomed from the moment we arrived. I would highly recommend this hotel. The room was small, but very comfortable and well furnished. The only drawback was a sliding accordian door on the bathroom - gives little privacy.

Short stay in Brugges

Anselmus was a quaint hotel not far from the Berg and Markt. Our hosts were very helpful and polite, and the map provided with two walking routes on it was very welcome.

Breakfast was beautiful, nice coffee, good selection of cereals, breads, meats and cheeses. But the best was the soft-boiled egg. Cooked to perfection and so refreshing!

Our room was pleasant, spacious, and the bath welcome after walking around all day. Although, the steep and narrow staircase was a challenge after a long night out :)

We were very happy with Anselmus, and would certainly recommend.

A bit hard to find because the location map was inaccurate, but not a serious fault. The owner was very helpful and enthusiastic about Brugge. Offered his own secure garage for our hire car at a small fee. Would stay there again.

More like a friendly B&B than a hotel

Three of us stayed here while making our way home from the volcanic ash disruptions. This was a quaint and lovely property, and we were more than impressed by the quality of the room and the service. Brugge is a small town, so this hotel was in a convenient location for all the sites. While there is no lift, we only had a little luggage so it wasn't bothersome to move up & down the small stairs. WIfi available in the lobby with a password, and they will store your luggage for you after check out. TV was great (English language programmes) and the street was quiet. The curtains really black things out well so set your alarm! A much enjoyed stay and would return if back in Brugge.

Wonderful host in a charming hotel

Ronny will take such good care of you. From help with the luggage to parking your car. His hospitality doesn't end there. The breakfast is quite a good value and a free computer in the lobby along with free WiFi for iphone geeks like me - perfect. Location is wonderful - only 3 blocks from the Burg. I highly recommend this property. Next time I'm in Bruges, I'll stay here again.

Far from the hoped and advertised standard.
The bathroom if we can call it that was tiny, a micro-sink, toilets seat was not even fixed properly. Room circulation was awkward at best with a bed, chair and door clogging the way. Not much to put the luggage or clothes either.

Bonne situation, très proche du centre ville, des restaurants et des quais pour la visite de la ville en bateaux.
Personnel accueillant, hotel très cosy, chambre bien agencée, propre et bien chauffée
Pas de parking réservé pour l'hôtel, mais une liste de parkings à proximité est fournie sur demande par l'hôtel. Le prix pour stationner dans la rue (si par chance comme nous, vous trouvez de la place!) est de 14E pour 4 heures (qui est le maximum autorisé). Attention la police effectue des rondes régulières.

Pour la restauration, je recommande la brasserie Tom pouce, qui propose une formule pour deux personnes (29.90E par personne), composée de 5 plats locaux différents préparés à la bière (moules en cocotte, blanquette de veau, lapin aux pruneaux, carbonnade flammande et boulettes aux baies), le tout servi avec des frites bien sur! un régal et copieux.

El hotel es tipo boutique. Desayuno bien , vasto que incluía huevos duros carnes frías quesos pan y jugos no naturales pero decentes, pan dulce rico, algo de fruta y bebidas calientes . El servicio muy amable. Nosotros no sabiamos que el mostrador de checkin se cierra a las 8pm pero el administrador mando correo con indicaciones y dejó mensaje en la puerta con su celular. La habitación limpia cómoda y con vista increíble. El piso cruje por ser de madera pero tiene alfombra nueva eso no resultó incómodo. Muy bueno.
