Breakfast was a shambles nothing or next to nothing left to eat at 8.30 am Saturday morning
Hi, I have just came home from staying on Friday 20 February 2026 at the above hotel and found my stay very enjoyable only to get up this morning for breakfast and it was just a shambles. First they could'nt find a table for us then we got a table which was not clean however the girl did come over and clean it and lay it out with cutlery etc. We went to get some orange juice which was empty and we had to ask for it. Then the coffee machine did not work properly and the cooked breakfast was not as it should have been as my husband wanted a fried egg to which he was told they were finished. I then went to get pancakes and once again they were finished however I did ask for them and the girl asked how many I would like and where I was sitting and she would bring them over to me when they were ready. A few minutes went past and the pancakes did appear only to be given to the gentleman sitting at the table beside us, so once again I asked for them and waited to which by this time I was fed up waiting so decided to get a pastry and the same story they were finished also, once again I asked and they brought out some which obviously had just been taken out of the oven as they were raw in the middle and could not be eaten. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the receptionist had booked guests in a million times and was very efficient. The young waitress who served me was originally from Kent and l recognised her accent from coming from where l used to live.
My room 101 was a nice location, full view of the Scotch Corner roundabout and could see the snow and when it was clear so l could get on my way to continue my journey to Scotland. It really is in a fantastic location.
Breakfast was good the chef made the best porridge in the North East so he tells me.

Room was good. Bed very comfortable and huge. Staff was very good, all of them, reception, room staff and especially the breakfast staff were pleasant, helpful and friendly.
The breakfast was really nice with plenty of variety.
Plenty of parking.

Only negatives were the condition of the bathroom, the window was unsightly as well as incredibly draughty.
The wash basin waste would bubble up for long periods due to back pressure building up in the waste/soil systems within the hotel. Sometimes for an hour or so.
Also a really nauseating smell especially in the foyer which hit you as you walked in - it smelled of an open sewer - we did mention this at reception, the smell disappeared after about 3 days. Hopefully this was resolved.

But - we have stayed here a good few times and will still return. This hotel is convenient for many locations in the area and is still very good value.

Convenient location if traveling to the area. Would be great if you have an EV since there are so many chargers. I didn't eat here so cannot attest to the food. Room was clean and comfy, well appointed. Quiet despite being near the motorway.

Decor is getting tired and needs a refurbishment. We had a room overlooking road and road noise was loud. Bathroom felt cold as no heating and large window with no window dressing and downpipe noise. We have stayed previously with room away from the road and internal bathroom which was better. Staff were helpful and friendly and location is convenient for exploring the area.

A very different experience to what I had 3 years ago.

The hotel is still very much the same however it’s starting to look tired and dated.

The most disappointing part for myself was the food, last time was superb however this time a very different experience.

Meatball starter is stone cold.

Medium steak was severed blue.

The ribeye burger lacked a lot of love.

The small things we asked staff to do was undertaken without any problems. Restaurant staff and receptionists superb. My two concerns were lack of disabled car parking spaces, only three seen for 91 room hotel and swimming pool at hotel front due to rain. The latter appeared to be remedied day before we left.

Check in was ok but the bar staff were very inattentive. It took a while to get served as the staff member disappeared for quite some time just as I arrived and then continued with what she was doing despite a few people were waiting.
There was not much left to choose from at breakfast even though there was a while left before finishing time and some later arrivals were not treated very politely. This was luckily not my experience

We have stayed here before as the hotel is handy for trips from south to north of the country. The bed was fine room a bit dated but clean. In the bar the service was good and the staff attentive
We had a meal in the resteraunt. Not enough staff to cope with the numbers and food running out so not all choices available and what we has was skimped on and not worth the cost which is a shame because on our last stay the food was great.
I was also disappointed that a service charge was put on the bill and i didnt notice till i paid or would have requested this be taken off

Handy location - reasonable price

I attended a race meeting at Croft circuit. Booked one night in Holiday Inn. About 15mins from the track. It's right on the A1(M) at Scotch Corner.
Room was smallish, but reasonable price. Bath has wall shower and handheld. No separate shower. Shampoo etc. provided.
The bar is ok, although not so cosy. Shuts at 11pm sharp.
Village nearby has a pub. You'll find it if you fancy eating out.

A great hotel for a comfortable and friendly place to stay. It’s not fancy, and a little tired in places, but it’s super clean, the beds are great and the staff are friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was excellent. Plenty of parking - just remember to put your reg in at reception. Overall a good pit stop

My husband and I stayed with our two kids. We booked the family executive suite, however there was a ‘king’ bed which was supposed to be for three people. It was only sufficient for two to sleep comfortably. The pull out sofa bed was extremely uncomfortable. We asked for a second one of these however we were advised they couldn’t provide us with one due to health and safety. There was ample space in the room for a second pull out bed. I wouldn’t stay here again. At breakfast the service was very slow. There was no milk, then no hot water. By the time that was sorted it was almost time for us to check out.

Quick stop over on way to Birmingham.

I arrived 21:30. no food available. Not a problem, walked over to services to get KFC.

Room 001 was okay if bed a bit hard, but was right next to main plant room so continuous humming and thrumming and noise throughout the night.

Should be a store room not a bedroom in my opinion.

Mentioned it at reception, got a \"oh dear, sorry about that, have a nice day\".

If you can avoid this hotel, I'd recommend you did, we changed rooms because the first one was tiny plus the base of the bed was filthy, second room bigger but bed was like something that came off Noahs Ark, talk about passion killer, the bed squeaked just by looking at it, back broke as it was so uncomfortable, meal was horrible.
We had booked for 2 nights but left after the first, when checking out noone wanted to know why we were leaving a day early,honestly stay clear.

Spa staff nice but it shuts at 5. 45pm which is a shame as on a wk nd it would be nice to chill after a meal.

1-night stay for a business trip. This hotel is in a convenient location right on the Scotch Corner junction.
Room was clean and as expected, easy parking.
The restaurant was OK for both breakfast and dinner, not fine dining but decent enough.
I recommend this one over the next Holiday Inn further north.

The staff were the highlight of the stay. They were friendly, kind, caring and the community spirit was evident throughout every interaction. They were a real team. At a time when there was heavy staff, staff had walked half a mile leaving their car behind just so they could come into work and open up the gym and pool. It made our stay all the more special.
Unfortunately the food menu was reduced and the restaurant was closed as there had been a problem with gas supply for the last week which hadn't been fixed. I had been looking forward to having dinner in the restaurant and having the sea bass. But the alternatives were lovely just not what I really wanted.

A decent, well located hotel with EV charge points and free parking. The staff were great from check in to the restaurant. The rooms are a good size and clean, bathroom was a little basic and tired but perfectly functional. The pillows are rubbish though. A fairly typical Holiday Inn and one that I will use again for its amenities.

It was an amazing stay, staff lovely and helpful, food was great in restaurant, rooms were really nice too, only negative would be bathroom! Tiles broken on floor where toilet is and window need a blind or curtain as tge frosted stickers are peeling off and people can see into bathroom! However this did not take away from an amazing stay. Anyone using pool should probably be made aware pre visit that you need a padlock for lockers also.

Fab! Bar staff amazing and a great members evening

Amazing stay, even emailed beforehand to see if we were IHG members (which we are but we had credits to use on hotels.com)
The day we got there they were hosting an IHG members day and we were offered chocolate during check in, with lots more lovely snacks, wine etc on in the next room (totally free of charge!)
It was a super stay and the bar staff on the evening of the 10th october were super too! Really friendly, had a great chat and a laugh. Genuine assets to your team!

The ONLY downside was the radiators are SO loud.. they let off a seriously high pitched sound constantly so we had to turn the heating up so that the room would be warm enough to turn it off completely for the night. Well typically it ended up too warm, so we pulled the fan down to put on briefly, which was even LOUDER and sounded like it was going to break.

These only issues are thins out of the hands of any staff and more likely a higher management related problem not wanting to fund newer items for the rooms)

We were staying there to attend a wedding at Middleton Lodge. Our room was on first floor and there was no lift. The whole property is tired looking. The English Flag and the Property flag at the entrance is in tatters and dirty, in a way a reflection of the tired state of the hotel. Service was matter of fact. I had stayed at another Holiday Inn last month in a different city and my experience was totally different. Felt it did not live up to the Holiday Inn name and standards.
