Food both breakfast and evening meal were excellent. All staff were excellent and really wanted the stay to be special for us. The room was good and the pillows were clearly new and helped us sleep. The check in closing at 22.00 might cause a problem to some people and the only other problem was it appeared to be a bit tired in corridors but rooms were fine

Great Hotel and Restaurant in Middleham, Wensleyda

Business trip, arrived late so restaurant was shut however the owner made a sandwich which was very much appreciated. Stayed two nights for business so early starts, missed breakfast both days as way too early. Managed to eat in the restaurant on day two. great menu, great food and wine.
In summary great place for a break however if you are on business check on times for breakfast and restaurant closures to avoid disappointment.

The property was in the centre of Middleham which was a good location. The room was comfortable. There wasn't a car park but you could park on the square for free.

Nice welcome but no dinner

Really nice welcome from the staff. The room was pleasant but the bed was not very comfortable and we could hear others in their rooms. The facilities were clean but basic, we had to boil the kettle on the floor because there were no plugs available.

They did not tell us we would need to book for the restaurant and when we arrived at 7pm to eat, we were told it was fully booked. Other pubs were also full and we struggled to get any food for dinner, luckily we arranged takeaway from anothe pub.

The room was comfortable but the heating was a bit intermittent and came on at certain times. This seemed to get rectified during our stay. The breakfast was very good quality but we had to wait quite a long time for the cooked food to arrive.

Perfect relaxing getaway

The Wensledale hotel is located in the lovely village of Middleham, the welcome we got was warm, the onsite restaurant served absolutely amazing food and the breakfast the next morning has got to be one of the best weve ever had

Room 12 stay clear the bathroom was disgusting so much mould and so dated my partner couldn’t even fit in the shower and I was only just able to get in - I’m pretty sure the owners have never ever tried to get in that shower - the toilet seat was so old and wooden not a pleasant experience at all. Breakfast waited one morning from 9 to 9.40 (booked for 9) no apology at all. No we never complained about the room as it was fully booked but was glad to check out won’t ever go again. There are other things I could moan about but it won’t make any difference- if I turned up next year it would be the same - should receive a full refund but would never happen. We’ve been in lockdown surely they’ve seen how bad the bathroom is !!!

Beautiful place to say. So relaxing.

When we got to the hotel at Middleham it was in a lovely position with parking at the front. The hotel has friendly staff . We had a quiet room number 21 on the top floor with a four poster bed and nice views from the window at the side of the hotel. The room was lovely and clean with a bath and shower. The breakfast was really good the bacon was so tasty .while having breakfast you can watch the horses and the riders around the village which was a lovely sight to see. There are a few pubs and a village shop and nice to walk around the village . Just had a lovely feel about it . I would stay there again . Thank you to all the staff that made our stay so lovely .

Avoid this place

Poor tired bedrooms, cramped and definitely not worth £120 a night. Manager was quite rude and not helpful at all and very abrupt with his young staff who were lovely. As we checked in with the manager his first words were that you havent booked a table with us tonight for a meal and the restaurant is fully booked tonight and tomorrow anyway! No other suggestions at all, like if we get a cancellation we could maybe fit you in or advise of an alternative venue. Another young couple who we spoke to got the same treatment.
Breakfast was good to be fair.
The other three pubs in the village offered good friendly hospitality and food.
We had one drink in the Wensleydale because i didnt want to spend another penny more in the place.
I think that the owners aspire to be something alot better than what they are. More like a 1 or 2 star rating at the most.

Good base to explore Wensleydale - in the lovely village of Middleham. Good size rooms, clean and the breakfast was excellent. We would definitely stay here again.

Disappointing stay. Expensive in terms of the service we received. Room dated but bed comfortable. Shower barely warm and no pressure. Gave up on the preordered breakfast after a 50 minute wait. Don’t like junior staff being blamed for poor communication. No apology only excuses.

The staff too formal for village accommodation. Suited and bossing staff, not professional.
Too formal to be made to feel welcome, the absence of any other guests did not help.
The evening meal really good, but we were the only people in the restaurant, so no atmosphere.
The pubs across the road buzzing, with warm and friendly staff and packed to the gills.
The place has potential, but management needs to be warm and welcoming to attract local people or could see it going bust, which is a shame as very well furnished with good quality products. Amused to find they had the same pictures in the lady's toilets as the Blue Lion. Full English breakfast should have been included in the price.
Stunning location, which should have been busy, 17+ rooms and we were the only guests on the Friday night.

Perfect short break

Situated in small village of Middleham this is a lovely small hotel. We were offered a larger refurbished room for an extra £20 per night but after seeing our ‘cost’ room we were perfectly happy with it. Small shower but all clean and comfy bed. Fabulous breakfast which set us up for the day. We only used it as a base so can’t comment on bar or evening meal. We’d definitely stay there again

Bit of a last minute getaway, booked despite mixed reviews. Room average with view over area at the back where late in the night could hear staff who were quite loud. Did not eat here as there was nothing that grabbed me on the menu. Indian in Leyburn is excellent. Was told how they used fresh local products, only to be served tinned mushrooms at breakfast which was small & average. For the price of the room wasn't good value.

Top hotel in a top place

We had booked our stay believing this hotel was in leyburn but,in fact it's 2 miles from leyburn centre in middleham leyburn.
But we were not disappointed as Middleham is equally as good as Leyburn
A typical dale's village small with only 800 residents but four thriving pubs.
The Wensleydale hotel was very good indeed.Run by a very nice hard working couple.
As part of the hotel is a restaurant called the tack room in which breakfast and dinner is serviced.
We had booked B&B but we booked for two nights of our stay to eat in the restaurant which served a 3 course menu with choice for £27 on both occasions the meal was excellent.
Each dish is individually prepared so there is a wait but it's worth the wait.
This restaurant was a massive boost to our stay as we did not expect to be able to get this quality for such a small cost.
The rooms were comfortable and the service good all in all a very good stay in a very good hotel.
We will definitely be visiting again.
We did not know Middleham it's a key player in training of race horses.
If you're interested in racing or in horses this is a place to visit,daily the horses pass through the village to be Road out on gallops close by.

The property was nice very clean and tidy. Windows due to not being double glazed where very noisy and the cupboards in both rooms appeared to be somewhat wonky so continued to screech or be very loud. Some floorboards could do with replacing also as very squeaky.

It was a lovely place to stay for visiting the area. The hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Great breakfast. Staff need more training due to new computer system which held up checking in and out. I would recommend this hotel to people also stay thete myself again.

Liked the location. Ideal for local open day.
Disappointed with size of the room, cleanliness of bathroom, water pressure for shower. Door did not fit not very secure. Long wait for food at breakfast, nearly an hour.
Only 2 pillows on double bed and both very flat. Only one bedside table.
