Had a very nice 2-night stay at Loch Long Hotel with my daughter and grandson. On arrival the reception area is very bright, modern and welcoming. The man on reception is extremely polite. After reading some really negative reviews I wasn't expecting much but was more than pleasantly surprised by how nice it actually is. We stayed in the family room, which is small but adequately eqipped with a double and single bed and bath. The room was lovely and warm,bedding was very clean and the hot water was perfect. Plenty tea/coffee and toiletries. I used the free hot tub and sauna which was fantastic. The food was superb at each meal for all three of us. Considering that this is a budget hotel with a budget price it gave excellent value for money. Entertainment in the lounge was also excellent. We will definitely return here

This hotel is ok in a outstanding place solo room was small but great view breakfast was basic but all well cooked not a lot of choice on continental tea coffee juice cearial toast yoghurt would recomend you get cooked . Parking was ok and managed to park up every day ok bed needed new mattress and carpet needed cleaning or replacing also hall carpet really in need of a clean or replacing but rest of floors in hotel were tiled so maybe the owners were in prossess of doing this over all hotel was clean haveing said this the hotel was great value for money considring the outstanding place it was in too so yes would recomend staying here if your not wanting all the trimmings i would and maby stop again in future

First impressions was ok, when i checked in there was no mention about breakfast what time it was or how much it cost, also i wasnt informed about the switch for the shower in my room, then when i went to the bar and purchased a bottled cider the person who served didn't offer me a glass or ice. My room was ok, tea and coffee making facilities it was a single room and only 1 pillow on the bed and not a spare one in the room also the tv in my room didnt have all the channels and needed to be re-tuned, then when i went down to breakfast in the morning i opted for the full scottish breakfast instead of the continental, i had cereals and toast and jam. The cooked breakfast was not cooked fresh my fried egg was was hard on the white meaning it was cooked then left under a heat lamp, i would understand if it was a buffet type breakfast (I payed £12.50) given the location it was a 25 min walk from Arrochar &Tarbet station i would not stay here again and i would look to try one of the other hotels in the area.

Do not recommend at all. Property is old and run down. Live entertainment every Friday and Saturday which seems to take priority over being a hotel. Put in a room above the bar which had loud music on until 11pm. When approaching staff about this issue told “people come away enjoy themselves why are you trying to sleep”. Very rude and didn’t care. Very small beds, bad facilities, lifts not working, numerous issues with the room. Lack of parking. Do not stay here

Room was dirty, shower door was hanging off, you couldn't really use the toilet. Couldn't open the window as it looked out onto a flat roof which had water running onto it hence it smelt and been in Scotland midges. The hallways didn't look like they had been cleaned in month's either.

Amazing staff, very nice people who made our stay memorable. Food was very good.
The building is not in immaculate condition, it needs some maintenance investment. Car park might be busy on weekends, but I was lucky to find space on every single day of our stay.

Loud Bad Karaoke on till 11:30 at night , not ideal when we’ve chose this place to stop half way after a 7 hour drive and need to be up early in the morning, fire alarm went off as a false alarm at 2:30 in the morning, breakfast was abysmal and got served raw sausage while sitting next to dead flys on the seats , lovely place 😀

Check in was easy , on entering the room , the heater was on full and the carpet had lots of wet patches on it, the hotel allows dogs and I'm sure our room had one that had soiled the carpet from the last guests. The bathroom floor was slippy and the lack of extractor in it , had warped the door , the panels were coming off , it had mould on one of the lights which didn't work and was hanging down out of the ceiling , the toilet roll holder was broken also. This was room 58.

Room was cleaned and tidied well, fresh towels every day. However, the room was very small, no a/c, no hairdryer, very dated, carpet badly frayed. Road noise affected sleep. Hot tub and sauna not working for the whole week, corridors grubby, decor dirty, carpets dirty. Went into the bar once at 10pm and it was shut. We were told they closed early because they werent busy but there were quite a few people drinking. One group told us that they had to double up on their order because the bar was closing. Nearly every time we walked in or out past the reception, we were ignored. Needless to say, we were disaappointed to be staying a whole week and wont be back!

It was lovely, staff very helpful and friendly, bedroom was compact but comfortable and clean! Meal choice was fab, we ate from the Indian menu and it was terrific! Breakfast this morning was lovely too all freshly made, so nice! The waiter was so lovely he even made and brought me a speciality coffee, over to our table! Really nice touch! Our bedroom had a lovely view overlooking the water, gorgeous today as the sun was shining!

Stayed for one night, property could do with some updating and decorating here & there both inside and outside. A work in progress, but not unpleasant. If you want a 5 star hotel, go and stay in a 5 star hotel!
The wall heater in my room was pointless, you'd get more heat from a single match, and the remote control for the tv was a bit worn out, otherwise room was clean and tidy, good hot shower.
Staff were superb, pleasant, very friendly & helpful, Good bar, & a good breakfast selection available.

This old girl is long past her prime. I can imagine back in the day she would have been a grand hotel, nicely located next to the Loch, but today she is a run down hovel managed by rude idiots. The carpets are threadbare, the furniture is threadbare, the place is filthy and I slept in my clothes as I did not want to risk the beds. The fire alarm went off twice during the night and the staff did not know how to manage the process or how to reset the fire doors, which remained activated the following day. After realising the answer to everything was 'No' I stoped asking for things a normal hotel would offer. If you get this at a bargain price and you have your own sleeping bag, then it could work for you like a hostel, but we paid top dollar and it was a repulsive experience.

I have used this location as a base a few times. I have stayed in a few hotels in this area and for the money, this is one of the better choices in terms of standard, service and help from the staff.
I will continue to use this hotel, should I ever want the same area as a base.

Overall the hotel was off a good standard and the meals served were very tasty and good portions.

However I couldn't get the shower to produce hot water which was disappointing so I ran the bath which did magically produce hot water. One to investigate.

Also the parking wasn't ideal. On the Saturday afternoon I arrived back at the hotel and there was one small space left to park. I was advised by a member of staff that it was that space or find a public car park elsewhere and pay for parking tickets until the next day. Pretty poor I think.

Very outdated, needs complete refurbishment. Staff not friendly or helpful. Lift not working so as my room was on 3rd floor and i have copd had to leave after 1 night. Parking is a joke and you risk a £100 fine if you don't keep registering your car,this is not explained to you.

We booked room 57 with loch view.
Outside of hotel looks run down but the view across the loch was amazing and the same out of the room window. corridors quite dark and carpets dirty. There was no lift and it was up and down stairs to get to the room.
Room was ok on the surface but could do with a deep clean.
Pillows were lumpy and you only got one and quilt far too big for bed. Could have bigger beds to offer but ours was a small double so overall did not sleep well.
Had to take pillow down and ask for two new ones.
No hair dryer in room but you can get one from reception. I’d advise to take your own.
House keeping cupboards when left open could do with a good clean and a bit of organisation.
Overall pleasant staff but hotel does need a good spruce up in places.
A really nice pub with garden on the loch across the road and down a bit and the food was quality. There is also a little convenience store.
Would I stay here again? Probably not I’m afraid and I’m not one to leave reviews usually

The property,was clean and bright in the foyer. The staff, were a mixed bunch, all were perfectly amenable when you asked for something, unfortunately it could sometime take several tries for this to happen. I had to send some food back. I was offered another meal, but refused as i was put off by then. I was given a glass of wine in compensation. We asked for a dog friendly room, and were told that we would have to eat our breakfast in the bar, were informed to tell staff that morning, again a poor member of staff on his third day was confused by my questions and asking for a tray.
The room we thought was more of a single than a double with room for a pet, the dressing table and chair were wedged up against the bed and there was no storage. The toilet door had a missing chun from it and the shower dial was poorly fixed in a hole in the wall. By the time I left just wanted to go home. In closing the staff tried their very best. I was disappointed

Disappointed that breakfast was not included. Evening menu very limited, but there us a great little chippy opposite the hotel.
Was not able to use my phone charger in the room as the only sockets available were sited at a height where a charger wouldn't fit.
Arrived on a Friday and there was live music on in the bar. Unfortunately, I could hear it in my room. Not great.

Bicycles parked in the corridor. Surely a fire hazard.

I was not expecting 5* but for someone who has stayed in cleaner hostels the hotel was dissapointing. On arrival to the room , the bed was covered in hair and the duvet cover inside out making me question was it wven clean . There was no towels , the carpet was diet and ruvbish under the table . Fly remains all over the window ledge . The whole room felt dirty. I ended up getting my sleeping bag liner from the car not wanting to touch the bed when sleeping.

It's difficult to know where to start. The hotel was run-down, dirty and unkempt thoughout. The carpets on the stairs had turned to a kind of blackened mush due to their age and dirtiness.

My room had not been properly made up. There were used (threadbare) towels on the bathroom floor, with no fresh ones left.

The curtains were not large enough to cover the whole window space, meaning the daylight flooded in and woke me at 5.40am.

Even if I'd remained asleep I would have been woken by a fire alarm which inexplicably went off at 7am.

There was no room in the car park, meaning I had to park at the hotel at the other end of the road and walk the long distance.

Breakfast was severely over-priced at £12.50 a head.

The lift was not working, and the stairways were difficult to navigate with luggage due to their narrowness.

The only positive point was the young Indian lady on reception, who was charming and polite.

Though this offered the cheapest stay in Arrochar at £48, this price was way too high for the shockingly poor standards throughout.

The staff here are lovely and this place could be great with some TLC.

It’s an okay place if you’re just planning on sleeping there. The rooms smell nice, beds are okay, however the curtain in my room wasn’t designed to open… it was sewn in, no curtain pole, and came off when I tried to let some light into my room. Literally hanging by a thread.

The bathrooms again, could be lovely, but please do something about those wall mounted shower heads. If you’re gonna force women to get their hair wet, at least provide a shower cap or a hair dryer in the room.

The vibe of the hotel is a little sketchy at weekends. I was on my own and walking through the lobby at night after work, I didn’t feel safe as male punters were hanging around drunk.

Car parking is limited and the alternative is paid offsite parking across the road. If you’re a solo woman, just watch out for this - it’s not a well lit walk at all, be safe. It’d be great if they could have clearly marked bays and enforce people having to park within them, to maximise space onsite and to stop people parking selfishly.

A group of 4, we checked in, put the two car registrations in to the machine. When home, both parties received multiple demands for parking charges. We contacted the hotel, no help, we sent proof with e mails and unfortunately because we engaged with the parking company, we’re now getting lies and excuses threatening court action. This has ruined an emotional and sad trip to scatter our Aunt’s ashes. The hotel should step in and sort this company’s treatment of guests.

Overall, our stay here was okay. The hotel is very basic but comfortable. The entrance way is freezing, lift was out of order and corridor carpets have seen better days. The rooms themselves are an improvement. Windows open, heating works and showers hot. The walls are rather thin as we discovered at 1am when awoken by our neighbouring room but with reception closed, you’ll have to suck it up. We didn’t try eating here so cannot comment. I would suggest the hotel provides extra pillows as myself and my husband only had one pillow each so had to use the decorative cushions to give us the height we prefer.

Location is the key selling factor for this hotel. We were there for hiking so very central. Parking is available but can be a nightmare to find a space. I would recommend the hotel re-white line the car park as many cars were parked over two spaces.

Overall, if you are looking for a place to crash between your hikes it is ideal but we would not return.

Staff were friendly despite being very busy, particularly in the restaurant. Hotel in a good location.

Negatives:
There was a hole in the wall and stains on pillows and hand towels, no towels provided so had to ask at reception, the tap in the bathroom was barely connected to the sink and the gutters seem to be blocked which led to a stream of water coming down directly outside the window which kept us awake from 5am onwards.

We also decided to eat at the hotel after checking the menu online, however the menu online is no longer current and the dishes we had been hoping for were unavailable. Lasagne was undercooked and made one of us ill.

Not a great experience and will look to book elsewhere next time

The hotel is ok for money but we arrived on Friday night and first impressions were poor. Lots of noisy drunk people in hot tub then got to our room and lock was broken, someone clearly tried to break in. In fairness they gave us a much better room but then we got back from pub about 10 pm there was very loud music with lots of drunk people and this music played very loud until midnight. If you want a weekend partying and happy to sleep above a nightclub then it’s great but if you want a nice quiet weekend away with your wife then avoid at all costs.

The WI-FI is very good, The rooms are very clean. The staff is very helpful if you have any problem at all. It's a quiet place not far from the landmarks i was visiting... Hat off to the manager and the lady at the front desk.

The staff were lovely, they made us very welcome and were happy to listen to any requests. We booked a standard double, basic, freshly furnished and very clean. Great value! There was the option to have dinner and/or breakfast (cooked to order). Lovely beer garden overlooking Loch Long. Really nice for a relaxing night away. Would recommend for a bargain night away!

Being close to Loch Long made for beautiful views and nearby hiking trails. The room was on the warm side and the window would not stay open. I used a hanger to keep it propped for air. The hotel is not clearly marked and knowing how to find rooms was confusing at best. There was a small bar area with a lounge singer for entertainment. Unfortunately, patrons were up partying, screaming, shouting and jumping around well past 11:00 pm. I tried to call the desk, but no one answered. I had hoped for a peaceful evening to rest and recuperate. Instead I returned home exhausted from the disrupted night.

Overall, very good and value for money. Both bar food and breakfast, however, appallingly handled service and absolute confusion by one member of staff about service/opening times, leading to us being denied breakfast even though it was well within opening time.

Room on the third floor was full of mold. There wasn’t even a lift that worked to get there. Had to change rooms because of the smell. The bed in the second room was atrocious. The carpet was a little scary. Would not recommend this place. Check in time was 3 o’clock and the room wasn’t ready by then. At the bar we were in Scotland and there was no scotch whiskey. How weird is that?O

No breakfast option available. We asked about breakfast and they seemed surprised. When asked if we could look at the breakfast menu we were told there wasn't one as they don't do breakfasts but would do a full Scottish and find somewhere for us to to sit and eat it. Disappointing in that respect. Hotel was handy for overnight stay on route to our destination.

This hotel has very poor standards. Investing in a vacuum cleaner and someone to use it would be a start.
Apart from location nothing to recommend it.

Late into room ,then hotel lost key when room was finally ready.very noisy wooden floors and thin walls let me know when someone was walking past room .hotel did let me store my bike and bag when i wasnt there so give them extra point for that.

Nice location and a short minute walk to the loch. We were on the 3rd floor and our room was at the stairs so we could hear literally everyone coming up and down the stairs throughout the night. Couldn’t sleep from the noise. There was a tap dripping sound coming from one of the rooms (I think) literally the entire night. There was no phone in the room to contact reception and tell them and given how late it was I didn’t have it in me to walk down 3 flights of stairs to ask them to identify where the noise was coming from. The view from the room in the photos when I made the booking showed the loch and a nice view however I was facing the back of the hotel and looking adjacent at another room. So no privacy to even open the curtains ( I booked a twin room and this was room 303. I don’t recommend it unless you don’t want to get any sleep and you want to look into someone else’s room). The young lad at reception was nice however his response to most of my questions was “I’m new here so not sure” and didn’t attempt to find out the answers for me.

The room smelt bad. There was a rip in the bedding. There was a huge stain on the chair. There were spiders everywhere. The windows were dirty. You could hear every little noise from outside of the room. We checked in at 9.10pm and checked out at 10pm.

Nice hotel in a great location for hikers. Grear view of the hills from the bedroom. Very good value for money. Downsides were the wifi kept cutting out and theres very little/no mobile phone signal and the floors were quite creeky so noise was an issue when people were moving around. Would definitley stay there again though

Great budget option in a pinch

Pros:

- Friendly & Welcoming Staff
- Reasonable Pricing On Rooms
- Clean Room
- Free Parking
- Lovely views

Cons:

A little run- down such as:

- Main entrance door is faulty and doesn't open all the way
- Carpets in the halls needed hoovering could do with replacing
- Mould type smell (unsure of origin)
- Breakfast was disappointing at £13pp the continental didn't include any pastries or selection of fresh fruit. The fry up was also very disappointing, the scrambled eggs were dry and overcooked, poached eggs drowning in vinegar?, very small portion of beans, only one rasher of bacon all the for £13 is very poor.
