Staff were amazing - our children had an amazing experience. Really appreciated how the hotel staff delivered santa stockings and hand written cards to our room for the Christmas day.
The hotel was super dog friendly. It was lovely seeing so many people bringing their dogs and were permitted at the lounge. Highly recommend this warm welcoming hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The gym and pool facilities were fantastic. Our room was very spacious and immaculate and on the ground floor which was easy access for our dog. One thing to be aware of is that the dining slots book up quickly - it might be worth ringing the hotel before your stay and arranging what time you would like dinner for. When we checked in our only options were 5.30pm or 8.30pm with nothing in between. This in no way marred our view of the hotel and the staff were always very attentive - just something to be aware of.

Check in was pretty poor. Customer service was very poor and made to feel stupid that I didn’t carry a physical credit card. Abruptly told well you won’t be able to charge anything to your room. Waitress at breakfast had phone sticking out one back pocket and vape sticking out the other.

Food however was lovely but expensive.

Room was large and clean but very tired with cracks and lots of minor issues throughout. Cleaning staff spoke zero English with no attempt to try to help.

Overall it was an ok trip away but loads to improve on to make it great.

What a lovely hotel in beautiful countryside. The staff in Reception were so friendly and helpful. The room was large with a lounge area and very comfortable. We used the swimming pool after check in which was super and quite warm! The dining room is lovely with wonderful views across to Loch Ard and the bar / lounge area very cosy and comfortable. There are so many walks to do around. We hope to come back and try more of them. The evening meal was overpriced. The Cumberland sausage and mash was very good though I felt I had to add more vegetables (which cost an extra£6!). My husband’s Indian starter of fried haggis and paneer was very tasty but his Chicken tikka was so disappointing as it consisted of a plain chicken breast sitting in some fairly mild tikka sauce - bearing no resemblance to the original dish with a small amount of rice and a little naan bread.

Friendly hotel in a quiet and scenic location in the Trossachs. Staff were helpful and there are good facilities including the swimming pool. Lots of local activities are available although water sports were closed when we were there. Traditional food was cooked excellently but there was a South Asian menu where curries were very fiery and service for these slow.

On arrival, the hotel reception staff were busily trying to find us accommodation as per our booking through Expedia (3 nights). For some reason, Expedia allowed our booking to go through when the hotels had no rooms available to on the Saturday night.

We were asked to wait 1/2 an hour in the bar while they fixed.

We asked for a good menu but unfortunately the kitchen closes as 8:30. This meant a 20 minute round trip to the local co-op as nowhere served food after 8:30 in the Aberfoyle area.

The breakfast was awful, no vegetarian menu options available. On perusing the continental breakfast I spotted a long dark hair on the fruit platter; I alerted the staff who said they would removed. I thought they would removed the whole tray but to my, and my partners horror, they brought kitchen tweezers and carefully removed the hair - I couldn’t believe my eyes.

Needless to say, I did not pay the £26 per head for breakfast nor did we eat dinner or breakfast again during our stay.

Lots of better / cheaper options available in Aberfoyle.

Immediate starting point for Ben Venue hike with showers and indoor pool for cool down afterwards (which can be used after check out) make it worth the money.

Standard full English breakfast with a number of continental sides given in picturesque dining room was on level with any reputable bed and breakfast but obviously some guests expected a full buffet akin to major chains (despite the clear language upon booking).

Comfortable beds in spacious rooms that have seen better days. Areas beyond the lobby are dated with wear and tear that a flagged hotel would not permit.

Has a campy, vacation lodge feel not a spa and resort feel. Families and older travelers on short stays seem to predominate. Staff were quite pleasant and helpful.

Would stay again if doing something in very immediate vicinity.

Nice hotel but let down by a few things.

Hotel in lovely setting unfortunately let down by few problems.
1. One day breakfast taking over a hour to be served.
2. Bread shown toaster that was far as it went.
3. Frozen bread and extremely heavy.
4. Last morning hardly anything there and not topped up
5.Evening meals over priced and small, portions.
6. Do not appreciate been quizzed as to why I asked for service charge to be removed. Waiter asked me why was the service not any good? I do not tip as I pay for your service through my accommodation charge.
Most of the staff were lovely and the room was lovely and clean. The hotel ,is quite away from Callendar.

Very relaxing break in a beautiful location.
Had a lovely room with gorgeous loch views, perfect for the recharging escape I wanted. Hotel is very dog friendly with both the rooms and lounge bar dining. Lounge and terrace lovely for relaxing with a view, definitely recommend Forest Hill’s and the Vital Spa where Caroline was fabulous with the Signature Spa treatment.

Beautiful area to walk, cycle and explore at Loch Ard and Aberfoyle area makes it idea for either an active or relaxing break.

It’s advertised on the website that an activity centre offering mountain biking and similar activities is available on-site. However, it turns out that this is actually an independent activity centre located in front of the hotel. While they do offer some activities, they no longer provide bike rentals which was disappointing.

Additionally, if you’ve booked a bed and breakfast room, you’ll need to reserve a time slot for breakfast. We were told this was due to high demand, but in reality, it seems to be a staffing issue - there were plenty of empty tables during our visit. This was a first for me, having to book a breakfast slot at a hotel. Unfortunately, the food quality was also underwhelming, so you may be better off exploring local cafés for a more enjoyable breakfast experience.

Beautiful location and property. Room comfy and staff very friendly but for a hotel of this supposed standard there was a distinct lacking in detail. Of the four days I stayed there only once was the room serviced properly. For example on two occasions the tea/milk/biscuits was not and on a couple of occasions the dirty water glasses were not replaced. In the restaurant on one occasion there were no side plates at breakfast, and dirty dishes were left on the table when other food was brought. The restaurant has a limited menu and whereas one meal I had which was the burger was very good the with the second meal the chicken dish the broccoli was inedible and the sauce with it was not as described. Altogether quite disappointing.
However my visit to the Spa was exceptionally good.

Gorgeous location. Beds were super comfy and rooms spacious if a little dated. No fridges but staff kind enough to store things in the bar fridge where needed. The real downside was the food - undercooked pastry on both desserts. The breakfast would have been great if for the lacking in alternative milks (one of our party was vegan) so we were unable to enjoy coffee/tea, cereal and the vegan breakfast was missing items and no one informed us until we asked at serving. Small portion was fine for me but could imagine others being disappointed.

Despite cancelling breakfast for the 2nd day, the staff would not refund the full amount paid for breakfast which was frustrating.

The destination was beautiful and the grounds and surrounding areas is stunning!

If you’re looking for a -“quiet”break I would maybe consider looking else where as there was a lot of shouting and singing at the night time outside and on the corridors. We could also hear people banging from up stairs. We came here for a chilled quiet rest from daily life but it wasn’t the case as it’s a very active hotel. The gym equipment was old and faulty however the staff did apologise and advise they was getting new equipment soon. The Jacuzzi wasn’t open and the steam room wasn’t The best steam room. Over all rating outing over 5 I would give 3 which is unfortunate

Good naps & nosh!

Bed really comfortable, nice view from room, breakfast delicious & nice to see vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Great to have spa facilities on site. However, jacuzzi not working & we were told it would be by tomorrow (we were only staying 1-night). It would have been nice to have the leisure facilities open earlier before the children got in. The hairdryers didn’t work in ladies changing room. Overall the upkeep of the hotel was dated. Paintwork falling off in places, old decor, holes in ceiling. Otherwise, good gym facilities. Spectacular views over surrounding grounds.

This hotel is in a very quiet, beautiful area of Scotland surrounded by outstanding scenery. Our room was huge and was well appointed, staff were friendly and restaurant for dinner was lovely. Stay away

The view of the hotel is really nice and where located is good, however that’s where it ends.
The hotel is old but very tired looking, could actually do with a freshen up. On the first floor there is a musty smell.
Went to the bar for a drink prior to dinner, selection very poor, and don’t have ingredients for cocktails and the staff don’t know how to do them anyway. The bottle of cola was warm and I mentioned this, was informed the fridge has been broken for 2 months with nor repair or replacement insight. Went for dinner and ordered water, the young girl spilt the water over my wife and table whilst pouring. She thought this was funny as she laughed and left without drying the table or offering anything to my wife.
The food arrived where I had the fish, the oil from the batter oozed out of and the side was freezing, the chip (only 6) were thick but undercooked. My wife had Cumberland sausage and mash, with onion gravy, their onion consisted of 2 onion rigs???. They didn’t charge for the meal, but they did charge for my wife’s green veg.
Next day went for breakfast, no toast or coffee machine, you have to order. Some their full English is quite sparse, but you do get half a mushroom.
Our stay was very disappointing and the pool isn’t very big, their jacuzzi big enough for 3 people and their sauna is small, like a tiny garden shed. When complaining at reception you get a card as like the other poor reviews the manager is never available. It’s very overpriced not recommend.

We had a lovely stay in this hotel. Rooms are spacious but would benefit from some renovation as they are quite old. Swimming pool was quite good. I really lived the steam room with added fragrance. Sauna was good too. Area around the hotel is stunning offering nature walks, water sports and peaceful rest.
The restaurant service however left mixed feelings. Its the first time I’ve ever seen supplement charge for all breakfast menu meals but English breakfast (£7 if you want anything else and doesn’t matter you already paid for your breakfast). Oh, also, if you want latte or capuccino, get ready to pay an extra £4 per cup. Buffet was surprisingly small and most items were gone very quickly (on the first day all deli was gone and was filled only when few people asked about it and next day all jam jars were empty too). Also, restaurant staff was a bit arrogant and there is definitely lack of training and understanding what customer service is. Dinner menu is ok but taste wise nothing special and honestly prices were too high for such an average meal.
Overall its a nice place if you’re not a foodie and can munch your full English every day

Beautiful secluded location. Good spa and gym facilities.
We stayed in a self catering lodge, which was spacious and well equipped with excellent views of the loch.
Food at the restaurant was nothing special and limited choice.
Areas of the property could do with some maintenance, including lighting, overflowing drains, flooded paths.
Hotel staff were not the most friendly or efficient, but got the job done- we weren’t even asked if we enjoyed our stay…

Beautiful location friendly staff and relaxing hot

The hotel staff were really nice and friendly. The food was lovely and reasonably priced
The leisure facilities was clean and fairly modern.
Only down side was the noise in the room, I was on a ground floor room and could clearly hear the occupants above with someone obviously leaving early I would suggest requesting an upstairs room if you can.

The external of the hotel is tired looking. We stayed in a luxury room which was spacious but furniture was tired and the bed creaked noisily when making the slightest move. There was mould staining in the bath sealant.

Rip off

Arrived to no tv signal in the room, with no communication from the hotel before or on arrival, rooms needing upgrades with smart TVs. The sports bar and bistro was closed due to it being seasonal (a pub being seasonal in the UK is a new one). Forced to congregate in the restaurant bar area with limited seating and zero atmosphere or entertainment and accept the higher rates of food from the garden restaurant. Selection of drinks for a self proclaimed luxury hotel was woeful. If you're travelling here bring your own for your room, you'll need it trust me! Now to the worst part, the food... Never in my life have I seen a full English breakfast so poor. Link sausage cooked on one side for what I can only imagine was a minute, bacon cooked under a ceiling light with zero colour on it, and a limp potato scone. Wouldn't have served it to my dog. From what I can see online they have the cheek to charge around £25 for the breakie which is absolutely outrageous. Until this place gets major refurbishment with better facilities I would avoid this.

Gorgeous atmosphere in a remote location. Best massage of my life at the spa. The staff here is extremely friendly and helpful, willing to hold bags before check in and arrange a taxi to take us back to Glasgow at the end of the stay. Some of the property needed a light cleaning (stains on leather seats that could easily be wiped down). Food was delicious and diverse for lunch and dinner, however breakfast was a bit mediocre. Rooms were too hot even on a snowy day, but the atmosphere was peaceful. I would totally stay here again.

Nice room, great view, but very expensive

The room was lovely, with a seating area and balcony with a view over the loch which was absolutely stunning. Unfortunately the TV had no reception and the casting didn’t work which was disappointing. The breakfast was okay, but overpriced. The hotel also lost mains water due to a burst pipe in the area. This was outside of their control but meant they had to close the pool and spa which was one of the main attractions of the hotel. It was a very expensive stay just for a good view though.

Fantastic!

Loved my stay here. My room was beautiful and spacious with a fantastic view over the gardens to the loch. Very large cosy bed, little seating area and dressing table. The bathroom was bigger than mine at home! Tea and coffee supplies were well stocked as were the complimentary toiletries. Only one drawback - shampoo but no conditioner. All staff so friendly and attentive. Breakfast was divine accompanied by the views. Can’t rate this hotel highly enough. Thank you for making my stay so enjoyable, can’t wait to return in the spring.

The hotel has so much potential but unfortunately let down on a couple of key areas. Firstly it’s looking tired but even some basic housekeeping would have tidied a lot of this up (broken tiles, lick of paint etc).
Main gripe though was the food and the price of it. Kids garlic bread was £5 and was basically just two slices of garlic bread from a supermarket with some cheese chucked on top. Then served undercooked. My wife and I both ordered 2 different curries (at £20 each) The sauce they served it in was miserly and it was the exact same sauce (despite being two different curries). The rafters bar and restaurant was closed (not enough staff it seems). We also ordered some nachos at £9. Hardly any cheese on them so most of them were dry. Second day we made sure to eat out elsewhere (but you need to be able to drive as it’s in the middle of no where). Went to nick Nairns place 15 mins away at port of Menteith. Dinner was far superior and cost less than our dinner the previous night.

Great staff and stay.
The only area for improvement is the front desk and restaurant manager relationship should be more cohesive for in-room dining (which we prefer to restaurant dining). Guests should not have to ask the front desk about in room menus and dining options, and then be told to ask the restaurant manager the same questions.

Strange rules for booking meal slots for guests.

The Hotel seems to have a meal capacity that does not align with number of hotel guests. For example, you can be stranded at hotel (if you have a drink and cannot therefore drive that evening) without an option to eat any food on that particular evening.

Relaxing and beautiful

My wife and I had a great stay at the McDonald resort. Our room had spectacular views across the front lawn and loch. The room was beautiful but our only comment would be that for such a large room the TV should be bigger. We just relaxed in the room rather than going for dinner. We ordered room service and the food was great! Bedding and bed was great and we had a great sleep. Would definitely recommend to any couple wanting a relaxing break.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Callander Crags, the hotel offers a 24-hour reception, safe, and cloakroom. Guests can enjoy a cozy bar, breakfast room, Wi-Fi access, and an upscale restaurant.
