Overall, poor standard of accommodation for £140 per night. Cleanliness and maintenance standards were very low. Had to ask for a move of room as couldnt even open the windows in our room. 2nd room was marginally better, st least we could get some fresh air!

Elegance, comfort and scenery

Following its recent refurbishment, The Tarbet Hotel blends historic elegance with modern comfort in a stunning location, great for hillwalkers and couples.

My only critique is that the dinner service was a bit slow and the menu felt like poor value for money, but we enjoyed the fish pie and chicken schnitzel. Breakfast was exceptional!

The Tarbet hotel was our favorite stay of our 9 day trip to Scotland. The historic building on the shores of loch Lomond was peaceful and serene. The staff was great and even upgraded our room for free which was a real treat. The restaurant and drinks were good as well. The real show stopper is the view of the loch and the location.

We only stayed one night at the Tarbet hotel, it was a stopover for the journey from Skye. We found it perfect to be honest, its in a great setting opposite the loch, you can get the ferries across if you want to.
The room was a bit tired but it was quiet and clean. The bar area was really nice and the breakfast good. We found the staff lovely and helpful, would definitely recommend.

The location is next to the road and has a beautiful park.
It might have some traffic noise but it doesn't bother me. I stayed 218 with a lake view. The bed was not too comfy but ok. It was an old castle. Seems outdated (not new) but clean. Also, I'm not picky. They make the most amazing breakfast during my two-week trip to Scotland and England. It was affordable too.
Thanks to one of the staff members bringing me coffee at 5:00am when I sat in the lobby by myself. That was really nice and my trip was made better by someone kind.

I would think most people pick this hotel for it's superb location on the shore of Loch Lomond. It really is a beautiful spot. The hotel itself is a grand old stone building, although a little shabby and run down inside (it really deserves a re-furb). Still it's clean, and the staff are friendly. This is my second visit. The breakfast is excellent (when do you ever get freshly squeezed orange juice in Britain?!) and there is a dual charging point for electric vehicles in the car park.

In summary, I'd definitely recommend this place if you don't need five star luxury.

The staff were brilliant, the room was very nice and the bed comfortable however all through the night there was a constant rumbling noise like a running generator which kept my wife awake all night, i was wakened a few times throughout the night which ruined what was to be a relaxing night away. Such a shame because if not for that thevstay wouldve been perfect.

I don’t rate hotels poorly. Nine hotels in 16 days and this is not a hotel that should remain open.
Room 234, peeling paint, foul smells, an electrical system where you choose, coffee or watch Tv or charge a phone. You can’t do all at once. It’s noisy from any direction and I slept less than an hour.
There is 9” between a small bed and the tv stand. 5 hallways from a lift that is not safe, a front desk that does not care. It’s like a horror movie set.

Redeeming qualities. The picture of the exterior, which is why we booked and the bar tender.

We had two rooms as a family but both were on different sections. The rooms were comfortable. Keep in mind the property is old, and while charming don't expect modern amenities. Lots of stairs, and a somewhat confusing layout with fire doors, but that's the nature of the property. It's cute though if you fancy a stay at a castle like property. It's right across from the loch Lomond and easy to walk along the lake and enjoy. It's also right by the road, if you are a light sleeper might need ear plugs for the peak season.

This hotel ought to be renamed McFawlty Towers. It is so bad as to make the TV version look like the Ritz

There are however two redeeming features the first being the staff who are struggling to provide a good service with zero support from their head office. The are understaffed, under resourced and the whole place is crying out for proper investment which I doubt the present owners have the financial muscle to provide.

The second plus is the dinner restaurant which served two great meals taste wise, although the presentation left a lot to be desired

Given the great location the building enjoys an investment North of £12m might begin to address their problems

I write as a long retired architect who in a past life worked for many hoteliers all over the world so have some idea how hotels and restaurants sought to work

I did of course share all these thoughts whilst staying with them, but they were not being given any support at all as far as I could judge from senior management

This place can only be described as cheap and nasty but really does have the potential to be expensive and fabulous

As a solo traveller, I found my single room to be drab and uninteresting. The shower was useless and certainly not good enough to wash my hair. After a brilliant trip to the North West Highlands, I needed a stop-over to reduce my driving time, but didn't enjoy the stay at all.

Amazing location, be carefully of sneaky charges.

Hotel and staff were lovely, could not fault anything. Amazing location and food was also, fantastic. However, we were on a 2 night DBB rate and upon arrival we asked about the dinner, what does it include. Been to hotels previously who had different allowances for dinner we thought we would ask. We were told starter, main and sweet. Again, asked before ordering dinner and stated we were in DBB anything off the menu, which we were told yes by a different staff member. After the meal we were presented with the full dinner bill and when questioned we were told that it was a £25 allowance per person by the third member of staff, who kindly delt with it quickly.
Second evening…. From the 4th member of staff who we mentioned it too told us it was £20 not £25. As you could imagine, this all felt a bit strange, no one seemed to know.
When checking out, we had supplements on our bill which no one seemed to know what they were for. We paid for all our drinks as we went along apart from one round which we signed for to be put on the room. The staff were lovely and sorted it all out however, it’s just off putting and we weren’t the only ones at check out having problems with things on our bill we knew nothing about.

Room was very nice and clean.The service in the bar was generally good, although only one member of staff to.provide bar service and waitress service so at busy times considerable delay. All food was served in the bar area. Breakfast menu was ok but dinner was very limited. The menu was available from lunch until 8pm so if you didn' t want chips, burgers etc there was only rissotto or fish pie. Food was also quite expensive. We have used this hotel before but this will be the last time!!

First impression - from the outside of the hotel - we were a little concerned that maybe we had made a mistake booking this hotel but once inside the Tarbet our initial thoughts were forgotten about

La construcción desde afuera del edificio es bella, una vez adentro hay un olor horrible.
Los pasillos para llegar a las habitaciones es una laberinto, con puertas y escaleras, apestoso y aterrador.
El cuarto (que tuvieron que cambiarnos por que el Primero que nos dieron estaba sucio), aunque amplió estaba austero y desgastado. La regadera tardó en calentar más de 5 minutos, no hay teléfono en la habitación así que para avisar de fallas en la habitación hay que bajar al Lobby.
El restaurante sin embargo está bastante bueno aunque caro.

Tired Hotel in a lovely location with great parking.
Lovely helpful lady on reception but waiting staff all new and had no idea what they were doing.
Food was not great. We upgraded our room as the first room was very dark, cost £25 but we were cold during the night as the heating is on a timer and the 2 radiators are behind the curtains under the window and they were only on a few hours. We did mention it to David at check out but he just shrugged his shoulders and said to contact the hotel group if not happy he was only staff

Fire alarm went off at 02.30 and we couldn’t hear it in our room location, people had gathered outside for sometime before we realised there was a fire alarm, we had to open our room door to hear a fire alarm in the distance. We reported this to the staff and fire brigade who were in attendance our room was 128. The room next door had the same experience, fortunately it was a false alarm, however this could have been dangerous had there been a real fire.
