Room (52) was in poor condition.

Shower was sporadic and unusable. This was due to leisure facilities according to staff.
Room was fairly clean but in dire need of basic refurbishment.
Bed was comfortable enough.
Tv was not working originally and no coffee available which I had to go to reception to remedy both issues

Food at restaurant was decent and I’d say decent value.
Staff were friendly however durning dinner period all the waitress were just stood around chatting amongst themselves and we had to go up and prompt them to offer us a drink. Then after that we had to go up and prompt them again to take our food order..
breakfast was a decent standard with no complaints.
Swimming pool and gym facilities were decent and a good effort was made with the hallowe’en decorations.

Location is good.

Unfortunately I would not wish to stay here again due to the basic needs of a hotel room not being met.

Evening meals in restaurant were tasty and a good selection of options. Bonus for me was that they did small portions of many of the meals. Service for Evening meals and breakfast was excellent with staff friendly. Bedrooms were large and clean but very warm! It made it difficult to sleep because of it despite keeping bedroom window wide open all the time. Main area and pool were well kept . Stairs and corridors carpets were tired and stained looking but overall was very pleasantly surprised and would happily stay there again :)

This hotel needs a renovation. Almost everywhere you can see major wear and tear. Room had a chair with a torn seat and the carpet was worn out. Key card stopped working daily. There is no elevator so climbing and descending stairs is required with your luggage. Hallway smelled of cigarette smoke.

We stayed for a couple of nights whilst visiting family in the area. We felt that the hotel was comfortable, but in need of significant modernising. Our room was feeling very tired , with dated and scuffed furnishings . The walls were also very thin leading to disturbed sleep thanks to some amerous neighbours! The leisure facilities are a real bonus, with a good pool, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. The staff both in the hotel and at the pool were profesional and friendly throughout our stay

There were no elevators which wouldn’t have been a problem, except we had to go through lots of hallways and down several flights of stairs with our luggage. One of our rooms had lots of spiders in it. Breakfast was served a little late so we weren’t able to eat anything before we needed to get back on the road; there wasn’t even any fruit or coffee/tea set out so people could grab stuff on the go.

The running water was brown, the wallpaper was coming off the walls, some staff members were smoking directly below our window which, on a very warm evening, we needed to keep our windows open so the room stunk of cigarettes for a while

Ok but needs an upgrade

Have stayed here a few times before. We came for our anniversary but unfortunately wasn’t impressed this time. Our room was nice enough and comfy bed. There was 2 coffee cups with coffee & tea but no teaspoons to stir it. There also was no hand soap, shower gel etc or anything at all to wash your hands with in the bathroom which I found pretty poor.
The spa is ok, pool is nice but it’s very tired looking and needs a good upgrade tbh. Steamroom was like sitting in a cupboard.

Had a fab time staff are all lovely. Room was clean with a comfy bed loads of tea and coffee in rooms and nice biscuits.Fire alarm went off a few times after coming out the shower but staff were at door within seconds to make sure we were ok must be very sensative alarm.
The breakfast was amazing with great choice hot and fresh plenty selection hot or continental. Dinner was amazing and liked you could get half portions of some of the main meals. The bar staff were lovely and friendly. The pool area with hot tub sauna and steam room was fab and again all staff were friendly and helpful even got to join the aqua gym class which was great and all free when staying at hotel as guest. Me and my husband will defo be back to stay in the near future.

Lovely lounge/bar/conservatory area. We enjoyed our dinner in the hotels restaurant and staff were friendly.

Have stayed in the hotel on 2 separate occasions, once with husband in March and this weekend with husband and daughter. The room in our first stay was fine, a standard double room. The only issue was the mold in the bathroom was quite off putting. The hotel staff did acknowledge that the hotel was scheduled for redecorating. We ate in the hotel restaurant one night, the food was nice but the service was very slow. The swimming pool was of a good temperature as was the jacuzzi. On our recent stay we stayed in a family room. The room was fine but we have stayed in far nicer, more spacious family rooms. The bed my daughter slept on was an old metal framed, single pop up bed. The bathroom seemed to be mold free but was quite small. The toilet seat was a different shape to the actual toilet which made things quite uncomfortable. We ate in the restaurant one night and again although did was fine, the service is very slow. We ate on the 2nd night in a different local restaurant where the food was lovely and service great. Do to the hotel having a swimming pool we would perhaps stay here again but would eat meals elsewhere.

The hotel buildings and furnishings are very tired. Window catches on bathroom and bedroom windows had fallen off. Bedroom lock only worked intermittently. The bathroom was last updated many years ago and the radiator was rusty and had black growth behind both it and the bath.
There was no Wi-Fi to the room. There was no way you could have the side light on and charge your phone at the same time.
Central heating was on on July - I was told by hotel staff that if it wasn't on there would be no hot water.
Food was good, service not so good.

Staff and check in were good. The room was adequate and clean, although it is a bit worn and could do with modernization. The mattress and bedding were good. The nearest electrical outlet was across the room from the bed – you will not be able to sleep with your phone on the bedside table if you want it charged by the morning. We had both dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and both were good. Breakfast was British breakfast buffet with everything of a decent standard. The parking was easy, but the lot was very full. The hotel is in a pretty little village a few minutes drive from Loch Lomond. Note: The path from reception to the room involved multiple halls, doors, small steps down and back up – this would be difficult for a person with disabilities – if you have difficulty getting around, be sure to request a room that is easy to access.

The staff were great and the location was good for access to Troissachs and Loch Lomond areas. I was just disappointed in the upkeep on the hotel portion. I walked into my room and it was very musty (smelled like it hadn't been aired out in a long time) and even leaving the window open didn't help. The bathrooms was serviceable but very outdated. The hotel really feels like it needs some upkeep and a little remodel. I don't think I would choose to stay here again given the condition of the room but it was a place to sleep.

The overall stay was good the staff were very helpful and friendly and the hotel itself was nice however ever so slightly dated and the room was boiling and no way we could find to turn it down.

The breakfast was a standard buffet breakfast and was decent quality.

The pool area seemed clean and well maintained but the steam room was out of service.

My only criticism of the pool area and the hotel as a whole is the changing area for the pool as there are no individual changing areas in the mens changing room and there were two young girls in there which i felt to be quite inappropriate as i had to leave and wait for them to finish up before changing.

All in all we enjoyed our stay and will likely be back.

The suitcase shelf was extremely dusty, so were parts of the bathroom.
The tissue box was empty (except for 2 tissues) and not refilled after the first of two nights.
The shower was on a hot setting, too hot to have a shower, nobody was able to adjust this to an acceptable temperature.
The TV remote control didn't work.
One of the bedside table lamps had threads hanging of it and was not working.
It was the worst hotel which claims to have a 4 star rating we have ever stayed in.
Hotel staff at reception and breakfast didn't make us feel welcome.
The room was quite noisy, too, from 6.20am but also during the night.

Massive decline from previous stays.

My husband and I have stayed at Buchanan arms a number of times as a couple, we booked a return stay with our baby and the entire stay was a massive let down . Check in was fine and the girl was lovely and welcoming, our room was clean and spacious and nice and warm. Unfortunately that’s where the positives ended. Our room was right after the lounge area, so we not only heard every single time anyone used the public toilet/hand dryers, but the live singer who was on until after 11pm in the lounge was so loud it made it impossible for us to get our baby to settle for bed. I specifically phoned ahead of our visit to say we were bringing her with us so I thought this would have been taken into consideration when dealing with room allocations and expected a quieter more peaceful area of the hotel. Our awful nights sleep was further interrupted when the fire alarm went off twice at 7am in the morning waking our already grumpy and overtired baby. Not exactly the relaxing stay we had hoped for!!

We hadn’t made a reservation for dinner but went down on the off chance that there would be space for us. The attitude from the man in the restaurant was disgusting. He was very dismissive and basically told us to go away when we said that we hadn’t made a reservation. I understand we should have booked a table in advance but his attitude and the way he spoke to us was horrible and extremely uncalled for.

This hotel was a convenient stop along the West Highland Way hiking trail. The staff was friendly, but not all that helpful. The check in staff should have told us upon checking in that there was going to be live music until 11:00 just below our room. We were jet lagged and wanted to sleep early, and the music went for 3 hours. The toilet and sink were not working properly, even with someone coming to service them. The carpet in the room was not clean, most likely mud from someone’s hiking boots. The manager, upon our request, did take care of our breakfast for our trouble, which was nice.

The property is old and rather run down, and we had substantial mould in one of the bathrooms. Paint is peeling in many places and left flaking on the carpets in corridors and rooms. It's a great property that needs to be looked after better.

Staff were very friendly and efficient. The hotel is quite clean if somewhat shabby. It could use a thorough renovation. We had repeated problems with key cards that didn’t work. Breakfast is very traditional— eggs, bacon, sausage, beans.

This is a nice hotel in a good location for hiking around Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. Two things: The live music on Saturday night is just a bit loud if you’re traveling with a kid who needs to get to sleep at, say, 9pm. Also, the rooms REALLY need blackout blinds/curtains. In summer, it’s still light in the rooms from natural light at 10pm and getting light before 5am.

So my check in was simple and painless. Within a few minutes i had the room key and was off.
The room was spacious and clean, good amount of tea/coffee/milk/sugar. The bed was very comfy. I did notice the floor / bed base did sqeek a bit.
Bathroom looked like it had just been refurbished. Very modern and clean.
There was a random piece of furniture in my room which looked like a old tv stand. ?
Shower wasnt very good sadly. They have extremely high water pressure so a slight turn of the tap and blasting all over the place.
Bar/restaurant were really nice. Food was really good. Well cooked and full of flavour. Staff especially the kitchen staff were fantastic, they are all really young but they all worked so hard!
Great location for loch lomond. Plenty of car parking spaces.
Didnt have a huge outdoor area.

So very disappointed

I booked 2 rooms, of the same description, in January travelling with our friends visiting from the USA. Sadly, our room, half the size of the other room, was extremely dirty, with loose tiles on the bathroom floor, no window or working extractor fan in the bathroom, no main ceiling light in the bedroom, just 2 small damaged bedside lights. The one small mirror in the room was smeary and dirty, the bottom of the bathroom door was damaged and crumbling away. The only thing hanging on the bedroom wall was a water stained fire notice. The window frames had loose putty and black mould in the corners and flaking paint. I did ask if it were possible to move to another room but was told they were fully booked. This seemed quite unfair as I booked both rooms 4 months earlier and as the rooms were so very different I questioned ( very politely ) how the rate could be the same. I realise this sounds like a dreadful moan and I have never felt the need to write a review like this before, but I do think potential guests should be aware. The final time I spoke to a receptionist as we were checking out, in answer to her enquiry re. Was everything ok with the room, she was initially very hostile towards me, suggesting I was ‘ having a go ‘ but once she realised that I was not being in any way aggressive and merely answering her questions and pointing out things that would help the hotel going forward, she made notes and promised to follow this up…. I am still waiting to hear from them.

Tired after long hike

Our rooms were not ready when we arrived so we had a beer in the bar. We were tired from hiking and there was no where to stretch out and relax. Room was pretty clean, but it looked like the carpet wasn't vacuumed too well, but was okay.

I was very disappointed with the Buchanan arms hotel. Pleasant but Perfunctory welcome at reception. Shabby dilapidated appearance of hotel, outside and inside. Carpets of general areas dirty. Bedroom Windows hadn’t been cleaned for months! Window fasteners falling off. Outdated bedroom furniture and bathroom. And that ‘air freshener’ smell throughout. Always disconcerting!

Excellent stay would do again!

There was a lovely park across the street from the hotel. The hotel had lovely appointments, excellent gym/leisure room and great food! There were shops within walking distance, grocer, and cafe, etc.
