This is a charming hotel with great facilities. It is my third time to stay here and I’ll be back in three months. The pool/spa should be re-opening soon.

Rooms are well appointed and the bed was comfortable.

I think the hotel is terribly under utilised and they could do with marketing.

An absolutely unforgettably positive experience!

My stay at the Mushu Glasgow River Hotel was a great experience where the room was elegantly impressive, wonderful outdoor view of the river and mountains & the bed was comfortable and kept me very warm in the winter.

The room was clean, spacious and had all the necessary amenities. Whilst the shower pressure was a little too low and the temperature difficult to adjust (it remained hot despite multiple attempts to adjust the temperature knob), it worked as intended and I was able to freshen up.

My evening dinner was absolutely perfect, delicious, and satisfyingly filling. Compliments to the chef and many thanks to the waiters and waitresses - they were extremely professional, knowledgeable and personable & enhanced my evening experience.

(The 'Sex on the Beach' Cocktail was divine... more of that please!)

Overall, my stay was captivating in all the right ways, and I might even try visiting the pool next time! I will definitely be attending again. Thanks so much to everyone who helped make my stay so memorable!

A few issues regarding not emptying bins and replacing cups, but overall everything was satisfactory. The room was bigger than expected and very new and clean with a massive bed . The restuarant and reception were both clean and new and all the staff were friendly and helpful . The car park could have been better lit and the external approach to th hotel is not very inviting.
Nice quiet room and I would definatley go back .

Wish there was a fridge in the room, as travelers we don't eat out often but couldn't hold much food in the room without it.

I feel like there is a lot of construction going on while we were there so it smelt like paint at times. Also it had a games room and a pool on site but neither were usable.
It looks like they are updating which is fair but it makes it feel like you are missing out.

The building itself was very cold, poor heating and tiled floors added to the cold atmosphere. The floors are also unsafe for those with limited mobility or unsteady on their feet. No where to get a drink whatsoever before 4pm. Housekeeping not done by 3pm, had to ask reception to get someone in. The food was expensive and poor quality, plus we had to eat in the bar! Other residents were clearly ordering in takeaway food. I observed a member of staff walk past rubbish in the corridor, twice which included a chicken bone and no attempt made to pick it up.
How on earth has this hotel got a 4 star rating? We will definitely not be staying there again and would not recommend this hotel to anyone!

Well we’re to start got our room it had no working tv and so I went to front desk the man working night shift tried to help offered us a new room but tv in there didn’t work aswell and it was dirtier room than the first room we had so decided to stay he got a new tv wire but still Didn’t work he told me maintenance man would come in the morning at 10 o’clock to fix it so the next day no one came to fix tv but there is more and it’s disgusting my wife went to make a cup of tea she opened the kettle to find what looked like a MAGGOT moving around the bottom of the kettle I’ve got pictures they replaced the whole kettle set it ended up taking about 2 hours to get settled into a room the next day I waited for the maintenance until 12:30 no one came I went back to front desk and asked if he was still coming the girl acted like she didn’t know anything about it I asked to speak to the manager and wow, the night guy left notes on the desk for morning staff explaining the problems from night before and the manager and other staff started talking in a foreign language laughing I asked them to please stop talking in the foreign language and the manager woman started laughing rite in my face it got a bit heated and the woman/manager gave us another new room so we had to pack our stuff back up and move again to the farthest room in the hotel knowing my wife is disabled we got to the new room it was really dusty like it hadn’t been cleaned for 6 months,half hotel is a homeless unitcentre

The experience was terrible. The room itself was fine, but at around 1:00 a.m. there was a fight between families from two rooms, and we couldn’t sleep because of the noise. On top of that, there was no hot water. We had to leave the tap running for about 10–15 minutes before any hot water came out, which was unacceptable.

Housekeeping also left my room door open after cleaning. When we returned at night, after being out all day, the room had been left unlocked with all my personal belongings inside. This was extremely concerning, and the hotel took no responsibility for it and offered no compensation whatsoever.
The breakfast was terrible. Apart from being extremely poor, there were only three things to choose from. There was no variety of coffee only plain black coffee available. There was nothing else. We had to wait for them to restock items, and there were maybe only two people working to serve everyone. Overall, it was a very bad experience. The breakfast is extremely poor and not worth it at all. It’s not really a proper breakfast.

On arrival there was a confusion of room as we request 2 single beds. Our room was on the 6th floor, on the way to the room the floors were very slippy due to water leaking from some where. Room was ok, clean and well presented. Good view.
Breakfast was ok had to wait 30 mins for eggs to come. Wifi was good, no room service or phone in room to contact reception.

Property was very drab and uninviting on the outside but inside looks lovely( at least the bit that has been renovated.). Unfortunately the pool is closed at the moment. The setting is lovely along the bank of the River Clyde. The bedroom was a good size as were the beds( 2 singles pushed together so we had plenty of room). We also had a hopitality tray which inclued 2 pieces of shortbread which was a nice touch. Only complaint about the bedroom was that the windows were single glazed, so we were able to hear the traffic . Also the curtains could have done with a wash( looked liked someone had opened them with chocolate on their fingers). What really let this hotel down was the breakfast. The first morning we were shown where to sit in the empty dining room even though for the next 45 mins we only saw one guest come in for breakfast. After that we didnt see one member of staff. There were no breakfast plates and we had to go find someone to get us some. There were flasks with hot water and coffee but neither was labelled. I had cereal to start with and saw a flask assuming it was warm milk - it was cold water which wasnt nice on my cereal! The hot breakfast was only luke warm. The next morning there were a lot more staff about and unfortunately the breakfast was more cold than lukewarm. Obviously the heated lamps it sits under were not doing their job..
We have stayed in this particular hotel quite a few times and at the moment i'm not sure if we would return.

My fiancée and I stayed here for the night while we were moving house. We read a few bad reviews after booking but were very pleasantly surprised at what we found. The property is under refurbishment and the room we stayed in (4th floor) has been renovated. We both slept like logs. The bed was very comfy and the views out over the river were lovely. The pool was closed as part of the renovation (August 2025). Parking is free for hotel guests. The location is pretty but I would recommend a car to get about. Glasgow city centre is about 10 miles away. The hotel would be very convenient for Glasgow airport. The staff made our stay. Payal and Sam at reception were warm and friendly, which is just what we needed! We didn’t eat at the hotel but the menu looked decent with plenty of vegetarian options. We will stay again the next time we fly out of Glasgow airport.

Where shall we begin! We arrived at Hotel, it looked very derelict, outside of building looked awful, an abandoned car in carpark, we were unsure what we were coming to. As we entered building, we were pleasantly surprised at reception area, very sparlkly and clean and welcoming. We went up to the room where again we had mixed emotions, the bed was amazing but the rest of room needed work, or they tried to upgrade but very rushed or not finished.
The tv wasnt working as you can see in photos, curtains were old, and thecwundows were disgustingly, had to clean them to be able to look outside, once windows were open the view was beautiful.
We had a live smoke alarm without any cover, the photos on website are not the true pictures. They are working on hotel during our stay, but it feels like they are rushing work to get it opened

The beds are comfy, rooms are quite clean, found two hairs in bathroom, paid full breakfast and was given only very limited cold food and was asked to pay extra £15 for hot food, then when checking out was told it was by mistake, the breakfast waiter shall have a breakfast guest list to verify all incoming guests this way he would know who is still missing so when we arrived 9:15 am with my son he got only rice flakes with milk … I like the lobby and bar, from outside it is dated but inside quite nice.

Comfortable bed. Had quite a 'budget' feel overall. It was about the cheapest hotel in the area in terms of price and it definitely felt it it most ways. Looks and feels like needs a lot of maintenance.

We joked in the elevator on arrival that the voice announcing the floor level sounded Sybil Fawlty-esque (Fawlty Towers). Little did we know that the Fawlty Towers feeling would pervade further.

We booked for 2 guests but the room had 1 towel and 1 hand towel.

Breakfast was included in our room rate- NEVER pay extra for the breakfast here. Were told on checkin that breakfast was from 8am. Thought that sounded late.

On arrival at the dining room at 8:10am, it was clear that many people had already eaten and left. I think the hotel had about 3 coach tours and wanted them to have breakfast before non-tour guests. Certainly had a sense of being a second class guest.

We were told to take any table we wanted. After walking around, it was clear that there were NO set tables. I asked the attendant if she could point out a table that was set and we could use and she said she'd set one up.

The fruit salad and yoghurt was almost gone and none was replaced in the 40 minutes we were there. We and other guests had to ask for a range of things not being replenished- cutlery, coffee mug, cereal bowl.

Unfortunately, I don't believe I've ever encountered a worse breakfast in terms of appointments and food quality. Staff were courteous, accommodating when asked to assist.

Booked this hotel for 2 nights based on the room pictures. Then I saw the exterior picture!
Arrived late afternoon, driving along a tatty driveway, into an almost empty carpark that looked more like waste ground with an abandoned car in the corner.
The hotel looked derelict. What I assume might have been a swimming pool building looked filthy.
Inside the foyer and reception were amazing. My room was just like in the pictures. A little bit dusty, a little bit worn.
But it felt like being in some kind of surreal experience. When I went out for the evening and came back, reception was deserted. Ditto the next day.
I don't know if this is in the middle of a refurbishment or what.
And no wifi in the rooms. I think you could "plug in" to the internet, but no wifi on the 6th floor.

Honestly, awful hotel, overpriced.
The room had an amazing view of the Erskine Bridge. That's its only redeeming feature.
In spite of the hotel description it didnt have: blackout curtains, complimentary water, hairdryer, iron or ironing board.
The windows were filthy and the hose from the shower was great, if you were 5' 6", but no good if you were any taller.
To say the doors banged was an understatement, the room shook.
I told reception and they said sorry.
We'd booked 2 nights, left after 1.
Additionally, it's in the middle of nowhere, so make sure you have a car.

Complete Shambles

Stayed at this hotel for one night after returning from a holiday. I’ll start off by saying, the staff who were actually there were amazing, and totally blameless.

However, this hotel is abysmal. We arrived just as 2 busloads of French tourists were checking in. The poor receptionist was run off her feet, but stopped what she was doing to help us. She explained that the hotel was closing the following Wednesday for refurbishment and the staff had been told that they were losing their jobs. As a result they had walked out, or hadn’t come in for their shift, leaving a handful to run the hotel. She was having to turn people away as they were overbooked, there was an 18th birthday party on that evening, and both the lifts weren’t working.

We were told that we could use the service lift to access the upper floors, thus avoiding the 12 flights of fire escape stairs ! This involved being led through the bowels of the hotel, showing views of obscene graffiti left by disgruntled ex-employees, to a rickety lift which probably should have been condemned in the mid eighties.

The room was surprisingly good, apart from the bathroom, which was old, grimy and stained. And the TV hanging off the wall. And the dust. And the missing Remote.

The manager was the only member of staff left come morning, so I take my hat off to him as he carted 87 bags up and down the fire escape for the tourists

It was terrible. all lifts were out of service. We (an elderly couple} were required to walk up and down 6+ flights of cement fire escape stairs., Had to run around finding staff to help with carrying luggage. It was also a party night at the hotel with guest talking loudly until the wee hours of the morning. Will never stay here again.

The hotel is very dated, the seating area in the bar was stained beyond belief. The room we stayed in had been upgraded, which was nice but the ensuite hadn't been and the bath was stained and dated probably from the 90s,. I understand they are in the middle of upgrading the hotel but surely if you do a room you should do the ensuite at same time. The room was clean and tidy apart from surface dust probably from the renovation works,. The food and drinks where good and the staff were friendly and pleasant. Especially Amy in the restaurant. We would probably stay again.

This hotel was honestly disgusting. The pool lights had electrical wires hanging out of them with the lights flickering under the water. The hot tub was cordoned off and there was not a spot of the area that wasn’t covered in mold. The family hotel room was dirty and the beds were uncomfortable, stained and ancient. The bathroom was covered in someone’s body hair, and once again there was mild everywhere. One lift was out of order while the other one was slow to the point of scary. The breakfast I paid for was not available because the chef never arrived to make it, and I wasn’t offered any money back. I will say that the staff were lovely polite people though.

Room: Cobwebs behind curtains. Side tables scratched, walls full of holes from pervious fixtures and fitting. Bedding stained.

Someone opened my door at 9am, went to come in for no reason. Cleaning staff no uniform. Could have been anyone, had it not for me seeing them with a hoover and bedding and towels.

Couldn't take pics of leisure area.

Now chance going back.

Leisure facilities. 1 toilet out of 2. has no light, hole where it should be. Handle hanging off door to go into swimming pool. Bottom of the door is rooting away. Not allowed to use Jacuzzi. Was there for a spa day etc.

Reported to reception. Still out Thursday !
No draft beer, said they had a gas problem ! never resolved. Poor food selection at night. Breakfast choice was good but Luke warm at best !

Booked into this Hotel as my daughter had a dancing competition their the next day. Only option for dining was a buffet which was cold. Got up to our room and we had no electricity and still none when we left.

This pla e is very run down needs money spent on it badly .staff were very ignorant and didnt really care our check out wasnt until 11am but cleaners came into room at 09 45 saying they need to clean room .breakfast was all dryed up been sitting a while tea was cold and staff members helping themselves which i thot very unproffesional .the only good thing was the pool very warm and nice but changing rooms a disgrace and filthy .

Ok but tired

I believe the hotel is currently undergoing refurbishment - it needs it!. The public areas are ok but very dated and tired e.g. the floor indicators on the lifts don't work. My double room was ok in size and nice and warm but there were no sockets near the bed for plugging in a phone charger or laptop and the socket above the desk moved away from the wall when removing plugs. The bed, although clean was hard and pillows like bricks. The en-suite bathroom had an over-bath shower that worked but flow was restricted as probably bunged up with deposits over time. The shower curtain had that smell they get when not dried or washed properly and there was mold around the edges.
Staff at the hotel were very friendly and service very good, so hopefully, after a full refurb this hotel will be much improved. Probably wouldn't stay there again till it's finished.

The hotel was adequate for our overnight stay. It was clean enough and the staff were nice. Overall it it looking tired but I understand that the new management plan to upgrade. Didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment on that.

Worst hotel I have ever stayed at

The hotel shouldn’t be open, it smells really bad of damp. They clearly have had some kind of issue with water pipes etc. Holes in ceiling and just in general water damage around the site. Car parking is awful, pot holes everywhere. Did not feel safe at all. My mum and dad where able to get into there room without using their swipe card. The handle inside the room was not properly attached to the door. The carpets in the bedrooms where terrible too, marks all over them. The photos they have on there website and the green tick that says we are ready to go is false advertising, it is a building site with workers there from 10am till 6pm. It was just a shocking experience all around. I will never stay at that property ever again

Great location and comfy beds. Only one lift seems to be working at the moment and it is very slow. Renovations are ongoing between 1000-1800hrs and that puts you off staying in your room between those hours.

the hotel car park was full of rubbish there was rubbish on top of the roofs looking outside my window, the bar area wasn't clean food was micro-waved, breakfast was terrible food was just sitting there toast was previously cooked and stone cold.
they were doing repairs in the room above me i was trying to work and all i could hear was drilling until 9.00pm at night, had to complain.

Poor hotel - reception not open had to go to bar to check in. Condition of hotel is run down. Breakfast good but that’s it. Room door key doesn’t work. Only one plug. Light switches not clear. Smoking in other rooms.

The reception area was ok, gave an impression. We stopped for 3 nights the day we got there non of the lifts worked so we had to climb stairs to get to the room which was on the 4th floor & carry our big suitcase up so many flights of stairs!! This continued till the day we left on day 3 they had the lifts fixed we was very disappointed and have regretted our choice to stay there they refused to refund us so we could go elsewhere so we was basically stuck! The pool & gym was not very clean so we didn’t even bother using the facility. The hotel is very dated & desperately needs updating with air conditioning system as non of the rooms have no form of fan system in place to cool room other than these big windows which open wide & if you have young kids I would be careful they don’t tumble out as they look like health & safety hazards! Personally I wouldn’t go back.

Disappointing, fooled by picture of swimming pool

Disappointed with the aged, badly maintained and at places quite dirty state of the hotel.
As one of the factors making us decide on this hotel was a lovely picture of an indoor swimming pool, we were extra disappointed to see complicated booking (?) system to use it. However after realising the state of the hotel altogether, it was probably best we did not use it.

Lovely hotel with very good service.
It is a little tired but is being refurbished at present so will definitely be back when it is finished.
Ideally located with extensive grounds. Lovely walks nearby.
The evening meal was a buffet with plenty of choice.
Overall a very nice place to stay.

We were booked for 1 week and stayed 1 night........our room overlooked a flat roof where there were thousands of cigarette butts/empty cans/bottles. Just disgusting!
The approach to the hotel entrance was full of huge potholes. The lifts were filthy.
Hotel is well passed its sell by date and should close until totally upgraded. We hadno success whatsoever in contacting Hotels.com to negociate a refund.

Needs an update.

Stayed one night to catch early flight.
Only seemed one lift working, room clean but carpets soiled in a number of areas. Bed very uncomfortable.
Evening meal limited as wedding on, and poor service, not enough staff.
Very dated throughout.

Had a lovely stay at the hotel. Room was clean and we had a nice view. Tea and coffee facilities and complimentary toiletries are all always a nice touch. We had a meal in the bar which was tasty although there was a lack of white wine choice. The bar area, restaurant and reception are in need of a face lift and better lighting would give the hotel a more welcoming ambiance. The location of the hotel provides a captive market so a perfect opportunity for the hotel to capitalise on food and drink. An outside area would also pay dividends. The spa area was pleasant, lovely pool, jacuzzi and sauna. The room was reasonably priced and a great deal for what we needed.

Would not stay again.

Hotel was clean and fresh. The problem was the fire alarm kept going off. Last time I stayed it went off at 3 in the morning and had to evacuate. This time 10 in the morning and again at 11 at night. Also boy racers were doing doughnuts in the car park. For these reasons I will not be staying again.
