Hotel was easy to find and in a good location near lots of things to do. Receptionist at check in was an absolute doll, very friendly and my room was even upgraded for free. The room was clean, bed soft, noise level was pretty good. The building itself is pretty old, the rooms have physical keys and old style doors and the floors are a bit creaky, but that's not a problem. Great place for the price, would absolutely stay there again.

Given a room with no working bedroom lights. They couldnt fix the issue and I ended up with a tiny desk lamp and the glow of the tv as my only light source. I was there for an exam so this was horror as I couldnt really revise.
Clean bathroom but poor draining bathtub which left me wading in a pool of water even with a short shower. Couldnt even phone the front desk as my room had no phone. Bathtub still waterlogged when i checked out over 12hrs later.
All they offered was 25% refund for such poor conditions. Such poor response when so many things went wrong.

The room was on the ground floor above a night club which were not made aware. The music was so loud that we were unable to hear the TV and trying to get to sleep was pointless, at one point people were banging on the ceiling which was our floor!! This has got to be the worst Hotel room I have ever stayed in. Also the shower head won't hold up when you have a shower. On a positive the bedding was crisp and clean. Room 12 avoid.
When we checked out they said the management would be in touch!!!! Still waiting.

The staff were excellent both at reception and for breakfast. Very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was lovely, good choice and quick service. The only downside to the stay was the double bed was very small, the curtains needed some attention as they were hanging off the rail, also the bathroom could do with some TLC, new flooring and a good scrub around the shower doors. The signal for the tv was temperamental and ITV was not available. Overall though the room was clean and we enjoyed our stay.

I had a call a week before the booking and advised the representative from the hotel that my family have a early start in the lining and the lady said she would put my family in the quiet part of the hotel…… the room was above a noisy area and the window wouldn’t close after the staff member trying himself… no other rooms available. I spoke to the hotel and they promised a call for the Duty Manager in the morning….. still no call back as courtesy…. Dreadful example of a hotel.

From the moment you arrive you are made to feel welcome. Reception staff and check in excellent. The room was lovely. Very clean and with good coffee etc. I will definitely make this my first choice in Bristol.

However, the staff were friendly and helpful and did apologise for these errors and provided a small discount which was a nice gesture. Still, dissapointing standards considering we paid nearly £100 per night.

The location was great. Staff was very friendly, and the property was beautifully renovated. Elevator was available. Suggestion for improvement: install AC units in rooms on top floors. Our room on the 3rd Fl. already heated up quite well during the day in May. Cool nights and open windows helped but might not be effective during a hot summer. Also, please install a lock box in rooms. I will stay here again.

My only complaint was about the noise from Bar across road and people leaving quite late mainly students. However it did mention this on website that some times it could be noisy due to bar below hotel . No mention of bar and terrace across the road.

I had an unusually bad experience with this property, so I am writing this review to warn other travellers. I travel a lot, and this is the first time I've had such a bad experience with a hotel. Note that I stayed in May 2025.
1) The pictures of the hotel on Expedia make the hotel look fancy and nice. No, the building and the rooms are very old and shabby. My room was so small that I had to put my clothes on the floor.
2) It is extremely noisy with an outside bar located in the hotel. The hotel will warn you about this noise situation ONLY after you have booked the property, and - as in my case - they will later deny any responsibility by claiming that they have warned you about the noise in advance.
3) My room was located next to a huge building's air conditioner outside, with the constant noise throughout the night. I could not sleep the entire night.
4) Be aware that regardless of how you choose to pay (in advance or at the hotel via their machine), they will demand you present the physical credit card at check-in, and the receptionist will type up the secret code from your credit card to their records. I have never experienced this practice before, and I don't think it can be legal.

The rooms are a little small, and the walls are paper thin, which is reasonable given the price...
BUT - there is a club in the basement, and it's so loud, you might as well be in there. All the way from about 7 till just gone midnight.

One night stay for business. Check in was simple, staff were friendly. The room was small but big enough, it was clean, could do with a little refreshing (but they are in the process of doing that). Nice touch to provide real coffee and loose leaf tea in the room.

Had to get the light bulb replaced. Bed was full of dirt under the duvet and a handful of small white moths flew out when i pulled it back. Tap water only run hot no matter which way you swivel it so i had to buy bottled water for the kettle. There was a loud droning buzz all night which i assume was from an extraction fan and it vibrates the whole bed I could not sleep even with earplugs in.

Bathroom had Mold around shower, walls in bathroom were dusty. Faulty light in mirror. The first night I had a bad headache from travelling but couldn’t get my head down as banging music from bar till midnight which is normally ok if you don’t have a headache and just wanted a room that you could sleep in. This caused me to have a migraine that ruined my trip. If I knew it was above a bar I wouldn’t have booked it. That’s my error. The only good thing was the location. Safe to say will not be staying there again

Start with the positives, the outdoor / basement bar was very Mediterranean with a lovely feel to it. Nice to sit outside until late enjoying a few drinks. The choice was excellent too.
We were staying close to the Uni for my daughters graduation.
As for the rooms, we arrived to a dirty towel left in the shower and a glass by the foot of the door. There is no air conditioning which meant the room was very uncomfortable, the fan helpful but noisy. The hotel has a very tired feel to it and the tiny car park was stressful to say the least.

The staff at Clifton Hotel were very nice and supportive - helpful with the needs of our baby, as well as giving us useful info on parking. They even placed us in a quieter area of the hotel without us asking.

The process to obtain a parking key is inconvenient - you have to park, pay, and then go into reception to get a key, even though there's nowhere to park without it. They could easily buzz you in from the intercom and you could pay during check-in, but they seem to strictly adhere to the current process. The bathroom is in a bad state and needs refurbishment. I believe the rate should be no more than £50 per night.

Sadly all the many positives were outweighed when on arriving home i received a email where hotel accused me of stealing a £2 bottle of sparkling water from the mini bar.
Such a shame and has totally spoiled the entire stay.

The walls in this property are far too thin. In our ground floor room, not only did the music from the hotel’s basement bar and restaurant reverberate through the window and floor, but we were kept awake until 1am by the extremely
loud TV, music and shouting from the guests next door. You can hear everything from the hallway - we even heard someone sneezing elsewhere. Window doesn’t open in the room - no option to get fresh air in as the old windows lift up slightly but are too heavy to hold themselves open. Would not stay again.
