If you want basic, clean, accommodation, with very little by the way of "sizzle" then this place is for you. The staff were pleasant enough but certainly did not enhance our stay with great service. There is no lift to the second floor so travel very light .

I stayed for one night in May 2026, and my experience was okay. The bed was comfy, and I slept well, and all of the staff I encountered were very kind and helpful.
I had dinner and breakfast there, and the food was overall pretty good.
However, the property is very dated and when I arrived I found a long piece of wall/wallpaper hanging off the wall beside the main bed. It looked terrible, and the wall beside it was filthy. See pictures attached. I did ask to be moved rooms, and although the gentleman helping me was very kind and did speak to his manager to try and accommodate my request, I was told that the hotel was fully booked so I could not be moved. They did offer me a complimentary breakfast as a result, which was appreciated; however, the general shabiness of the room, with the wallpaper issue and dirty walls, plus glasses in the room that also looked a bit grubby, were all very off-putting, and certainly not the standard I would expect from a 4 star hotel.
I would also add that having instant coffee packets at the breakfast, and only soya milk as a non-dairy alternative, were disappointing.

Window did not close, had to have staff come up and use a towel to wrap around the outside to yank it closed. Bathroom door side coming off door, had to push and hold door wood to close the door. Room walls had stains all over, bed in desperate need of replacement. No elevator and no help offered to carry bags to 2nd floor.

Stayed here with my husband and 2 kids under 5yrs. Breakfast was very nice! The location gave us access to a lot of things around Loch Lomond (Faerie Trail was the kids favorite). Parking was convenient and the hotel is close to other restaurants. I would stay here again.

Staff are brilliant here. Tam the chef makes tasty meals ,can recommend the carvery for an evening meal and the pancakes at breakfast were yummy. Natasha served breakfast, she's a breath of fresh air, happy and cheerful in the morning, but all the staff are great. The tables could do with a bit of TLC it brings the overall look down a bit.

Room was basic and clean so that's a positive. Heating was locked to 22c so no option to modify to personal preference.
Food in the pub was dire. If it came out of a deep fat fryer then you are in luck, but cooking a steak was above them ( twice ! ) breakfast was disappointing. Only Nescafé coffee unless you want to pay extra for machine coffee. Save some money and go to Macdonald's over the road

This is a good budget hotel within easy walking distance of the ferry around Loch Lomond and the train into Glasgow. There is a small shopping centre nearby with cafes and the shores of Loch Lomond . The room had a comfy bed and a bath . The food in the pub was basic but cheap . The staff were very pleasant and helpful. We had an excellent cooked breakfast. The room could have benefited from a towel rail and a daily replenishment of clean cups and tea and coffee. The tables in the pub were not always very clean but that was because they were very short staffed at times

It was our first time staying in a Marstons Inn but really was pleasantly surprised! Lovely location on Balloch, quiet room and fairly big. Lots of parking and restaurants alongside was decent pub food. Only disappointing bits was air conditioning was there (big thumbs up in the gorgeous weather we had) but sadly it didn’t really work… set at lowest temp of 19 it never moved off the first fan speed. If you stood next to it you could feel a slight cooling. Otherwise the family room we had was really good. Very clean and bigger than expected. I’d say a half star above the premier inn type. All in all we had a great stay and would definitely consider Marston Inns for future northern stays….

We reserved a twin room for two non couple adults. On arriving we found that we were given a double (1 bed). When we asked to either change or for staff to separate the beds, we were told no one was available. We offered to separate the beds ourselves if we could just have the linens and were told that staff didnt have access to the linen cupboard. We were given one extra comforter and tokd that the beds would be made right in the morning. We separated the beds ourselves and improvised with what we had. The next day staff didnt touch the room...no new linens, no new towels, no tea bags, nothing. Our final day we were given two twin comforters, but our improvised linens (improvised by us) were not changed. Staff was never available to assist us as they were busy with patrons of the bar and restaurant. There is no dedicated staff for the hotel. There is no closet, no space to dry wet clothes (for a hotel in the Scottish highlands), very few amenities. I would not recommend staying here.
