We were instantly upgraded due to a leak caused by storm Amy in our room. The staff were so good and nothing was too much trouble for them. The breakfast was wonderful, we had the full Scottish breakfast and enjoyed a lovely meal and cocktails in one of two bars.
Can’t fault this place! I’d go back for sure!

The staff were really friendly and helpful, we arrived early and were allowed to drop our suitcase at reception whilst we went into town. We were also allowed to do an early check in which was really great. The bed was super comfortable, I did have to ask for extra pillows and toilet roll but this was provided promptly. The only let down was the shower, which was awfully low pressure and basically just a dribble. This was very disappointing. There were also no surfaces or shelves to put our toiletries, toothbrushes etc in the bathroom. Breakfast was nice, with a good selection to choose from. The location was great for us and overall we would stay again, however I would ask for a different room next time due to the rubbish shower.

Great escape with incredible views.

Have just had a wonderful 2 night stay. The outside is magnificent, but at night it has such a magical feel to it. We had dinner both nights in the bar area and it was idyllic and had a cosy feel to it. The fireplace was one of my favourite things, I have a great love of old decor and I adored the mix of old and new decor. The portions were incredible generous and would definitely recommend the burgers!. It’s been beautiful renovated throughout and I loved the country cottage style decor feel of our room. I think it’s a wonderful touch that all the rooms are named after paddle steamers and boats. The staff were all so friendly, welcoming and accommodating. The views are incredible too, both during the day and the twinkling lights at night.

It’s a charming older hotel with a lot of character. Rooms are quiet, clean & tidy. Stayed for a week & was extremely comfortable. Used their restaurant for all the breakfasts and sometimes their lunch or dinner menu’s too. There were a variety of options on the menu, good value and very satisfying.

The property is tired at best. Bench seats had foam poking out where the fabric was worn. The bedroom window wouldn't stay open, so very hot and airless. Unpleasant and very loud music playing right outside the room. Shower dreadful: just a trickle at best and the thermostat didn't work, so it was 'guess the temperature' on the dial - cold/hot didn't seem to matter. Breakfast was just appalling. No non-dairy alternatives available, so had to buy my own non-dairy milk. The breakfast service was equally dreadful, e.g. no breakfast bowls or plates, so had to ask but staff hard to find. Orange juice ran out and not topped up. They couldn't even offer boiling water for tea - just a flask of hot water. All in all, this has to be the most overpriced and disappointing 'hotel' I have ever stayed in. Will definitely NOT recommend and will NEVER go there again.

The stay as a whole was very pleasant. The room, clean, the decor, very nice. My only 'gripe', is that the water pressure for the shower was terrible. I felt I had to run around in the shower to get wet. It was little more than a dribble and I felt I had to stand with my nose against the wall to get under the water. I took ages to have a wash!

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights in 2 rooms as a family. We had to ask for coffee and milk refills every day as these were not brought to our room by housekeeping. Also had to ask for toilet paper on one occasion. Was surprised breakfast wasn’t included for the price. Saturday night was very noisy due to a function downstairs. That said, staff were friendly and helpful when we asked for anything. Might have been a more pleasant stay had we been able to use the outside area but wet weather kept us indoors and didn’t find the pub or restaurant especially hospitable. I would recommend for a stop over but not for a long stay.

The room was neat and tidy, but that's about as much praise as I can offer. I can only describe it as a poor man's Premier Inn - it's a basic place to sleep, dinner was average, breakfast was very poor.
Staff were OK, friendly enough, but they were hampered by the system they were working within - it's hard to be enthusiastic when you know that you're only offering \"average\".
The major downside was the two flights of steep spiral stairs to get to the room - not fun when carrying heavy bags.
To be perfectly honest, we would have been better off finding a Premier Inn on our route. At least it makes no bones about what it is, and what it offers.

Only issue was check in and out. Had to ring the reception bell multiple times then go to bar and ask for help. If you fix this issue it will be a perfect place to stay. Would definitely go back

Book a double bed & get a single!

I arrived, checked in, given my entry card to my room but when I got there, someone had not moved out! Therefore, a double room that I'd booked was not available! Back down to reception & I was offered a single room. That's OK but I said I was not going to pay the same as for the double. I was offered a single room which I accepted but for a 50% discount. Still awaiting the bill.

A comfortable 3 day business stay

Recently refurbished room made the stay far more comfortable than my last stay. It is however a shame that the drafty windows were not also included in the significant renovations. The staff were brilliant and the food offer is great but please someone taste the hollandaise and rethink it. Fortunately I was lucky to try it before pouring on to nicely cooked salmon. Overall, a very pleasant stay and I will stay again although I think the new rooms will make the place very popular.

We got a brand new room and it was lovely it was booked as a triple but wasn’t a lot of space should have been a double as when the sofa bed was pulled out there was no room at all and a table we had in room was blocking room door when bed was out , the room was lovely and fresh and spotless only downfall to the room was the window let in a draft so room was very cold in the morning trying to get ready , checking in the staff were absolutely lovely

I stayed for 2 nights. I had booked a table separate to the room booking 6.30 pm for 4 people. No record of it found in book.
I was given a table and sat down waiting my guests.
When they came and said I had a table booked they were told the same thing.
On arrival in room waste bin not emptied and no shower gel in container. Shower tray at front rusty and moldy.
Second day shower Gel still not contained any liquid which leads me to believe bathroom not cleaned.
Just disappointed with room.
Round window was filthy and wall paper badly marked . I was in Room 216.
Meal on first night so hard almost inedible.
Breakfast on second day cold and black pudding as hard as a rock.

Disappointing stay. Hotel in need of major overhaul as very dated. Plumbing in particular is poor with old electric shower and hot water to sink that took 2 minutes to get hot! Cooking smells from kitchen permeated room. Staff not very friendly.

Didnt like the run down look and smell of the place, needs decorating and updating, would benefit from new carpets, curtains and shower cubicles, fire doors upstairs were constantly banging as people used them, not good for someone needing to sleep. The price paid reflects what it is and I would pay more if all matters were attended to.

Lovely from the outside…not so great on the inside

The condition of the room we stayed in was not great. Stained and ripped wallpaper, carpet that looked like it’s been there since the 80s, terrible and bizarre lighting plus the stairs slope terribly. The bathroom left a lot to be desired and the shower was adequate for a quick wash but definitely not a relaxing long shower!
Not sure what the extra £10 I paid for my dog was for because it definitely wasn’t extra cleaning.
The bedding was clean but the room was just not relaxing or welcoming and I couldn’t wait to leave as soon as I woke up.
Also 2 tea bags, a decaf coffee sachet and 1 UHT milk pot was our “tea and coffee provided”
Such a shame because if a little money was spent to modernise and refurbish the rooms then this could be a lovely place!

This place has changed since we last stayed there and not for the better. Room was shabby, unable to turn heating on, stained walls, doors sticking, the place is an absolute tip. Chef was unable to cook a steak rare, served it almost raw and we do know what a rare steak should look like. The medium stake also came barely cooked. Toast and avocado for breakfast was a real stretch of the truth, bread had a faint toast like mark on each side of the bread. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

When we arrived at 6.00 pm the toilet bowl was full of water right up to the rim as was the next door room. They say they had contacted a plumber in the morning and said they hoped it would be fixed by 9.00 pm. (if the plumber turns up. The room was small and the furniture was dated and shabby. They said if our toilet is not fixed we would have to use the ladies and gents downstairs in the bar during the night. We said that wasn't acceptable so they took us upstairs to the attic and offered us another room. We asked where the fire escape was and were told they didn't have one.
So we asked for our money back and had to go and find another hotel at 8.00 pm but as we had booked in there which included breakfast the hotel we found didn't include the breakfast and was more expensive.
It was a disasterly start to our 5 days in Scotland.

Stayed two nights and was moved on the first night due to toilet leaking. Room was warm with a sea facing view and good. Alternative room was initially cold (warm the following day) shower only worked if I held my finger on the start button all the time. While COVID-style cleanliness was pretty good, the room suffered so much from age-fatigue (browning walls, windows flaking paint and showing signs of rot in the frames, deep dust on wardrobe) that it did not feel clean away from the pub part.

The one-way system was sufficiently underused that you thought that Boris had designed it - nice ideas, but .....

Well-stocked and wide-ranging bar, with smart table-service. Breakfast was good. Evening food was typical Greene King, but better cooked and served than my local outlet.

When the new owners have fully sorted out the residential bit of the business, it will be easier to pass judgement, but currently the public bar/restaurant is in a different grade from the accommodation.

The photo's on the webpage show the rooms as being lovely but be aware if you have a dog you get given an old and tired room that has cobwebs on the ceiling and dust on the skirting boards, however, the bedding and towels were spotless and the food in the bar was good

I picked the higher room rate expecting a better room but it was disappointing. Food order was exceptionally slow and i was given veg instead of salad. When i complained that i ordered scampi topper and didnt get it the waitress said \"it's ok, we havent charged you for it!\" An appology for the mistake would be nice.
Lets hope next weeks stay is better.

Nice clean hotel throughout with a nice bar area but the room was dated. Nice location. Unfortunately this was not a great stay for us as we were woken at 1am with the fire alarm going off and had to evacuate outside to the car park for around half an hour. No explanation was given as to why and no apology given. Extremely tired the following day with a long journey ahead of us. The food was good but the elderly breakfast waiter seemed keen to take our order as soon as he handed us the menu and I had to ask him to give us a moment as he was hovering impatiently at our table.

Amazing scenery let down by a run down hotel

Initially everything was fine, if not just a bit run down. That’s fine, I expected it. After returning from an average meal, I found my room to be full of flying ants. I immediately packed my bag and asked if I could move room to which I was allocated a single room as that’s all that they had left. That’s fine.

The single room was extremely run down but I decided just to make the most of it. At 2am I was awoken with water coming through my smoke detector from the rain outside. I couldn’t do anything about it. I just moved my possessions aside and went back to sleep. I then awoke at 5am to the smell of acrid cigarette smoke in my room that was coming through the ventilation system.

It was a truly horrible stay. What finished it off was that upon check out I expressed my dissatisfaction and I was not even offered an apology or even a refund from my original double room rate to take in to account that I’d slept in a single room.

Very poor service and a horrendous nights sleep. I will not return.

Lovely location and lovely staff but problems with the room. For three of us we were allocated the family room which had nowhere to sleep for the third person apart from a very small sofa. The window would not shut properly so it was drafty and it rattled throughout the night. The shower fluctuated between cold and more worryingly scalding hot. As a result nobody slept particularly well!

Worst hotel room ever - horrible damp and mould.

Probably the worst hotel room i've ever stayed in. Whole room smelt of terrible damp, and the walls were damp to the touch and covered in mould (photos taken). Management were informed and didn't have another room available so we were forced to stay (and leave as soon as possible in the morning) as no other hotels in the area had rooms available and it was late in the evening.

The staff were first class, very friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Really nice cooked breakfasts and evening meals which are not expensive. Nice sized double room with comfy bed and pillows, very quiet and slept soundly both nights. Car park right next to hotel which has a nice location overlooking the Gare Loch with Helensburgh on your doorstep and Loch Lomond within 15 minutes drive. All relevant social distancing measures were in place and staff were very professional, knowledgeable and helpful in this regard. Overall, thoroughly enjoyed the stay

needs the rooms refurbishing! The public areas have been improved but the rooms need updating. Also the noisy toilet waste system was most unhelpful especially when it went off in the night. Also took at least five minutes to get someone to reception to check in.

Close to everywhere.

The staff were great especially our duty manager who made us feel specially welcome. A lovely location and obviously popular with the locals which is always a good sign. Loads of parking too so we'll worth a visit.

Beautiful location, overall a lovely stay. Altho we did have a problem with wasps in our bathroom, this was dealt with straight away. Would definitely stay again.

Excellent staff, excellent food, excellent location and has the potential to be outstanding BUT probably the worst room we have every stayed in.
Very dark and in desperate need of refurbishment and a new lick of paint!
Website should use this room as a room example!

Sea front view from bar restaurant areas and outside seating. Staff very helpful and meals good. Driveway into carpark a bit rough but plenty of parking. Bedroom was dated in need of decoration.paint peeling off walls in a few places

The property was very clean and tidy, the rooms were lovely bed was comfortable and the bathroom was spotless. The only moan l would have was we were there for four nights was we could have done with a set of drawers.
