Elsah a step back in time

So relaxing and beautiful surroundings! Our hosts were amazing and the cookies at check in were so delicious!! The town of Elsah is literally you taking a step back in time! Over 50% of the town is the original buildings from the mid 18 hundreds! The Bald Eagles were very active when we were there! Our hosts gave us a private tour of the town’s museum it was amazing! You can’t go wrong staying there and visiting

We really enjoyed our evening away at Green Tree Inn! We were coming down south for car show in Alton but we were looking for a unique place to stay close by and Green Tree exceeded our expectations. Gary and Connie are the best hosts EVER!!! The attention to details was amazing. They made us feel like we were the only guests. The food was so good we had to buy their cookbook. Not going to lie, I am a bit of a clean freak, I typically bring my own bedding & cleaning products but there is no need as this place was spotless. If you are in the Alton, Grafton, or Elsa area this is the place to stay for sure. I give it 10 out of 5 stars!!! ☺

Outstanding Place to Get Away and Relax!!!!!

Just spent a much needed overnight get-away at the Green Tree Inn in the Village of Elsah IL with 2 dear friends. We all experienced such comfort, warmth and hospitality in this quaint, beautifully decorated, clean, comfy/cozy, quiet Inn nestled in Elsah. Another family was staying there also, and it was very apparent that we all were having a great experience at the Green Tree Inn. Connie and Gary were very available to visit with us, tell us about the history of the Village and things to do in the area, and made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay excellent. Connie's cooking was fabulous!!!.... she served us the best breakfast I believe I have ever had. This Inn is top notch! So glad I had the opportunity to spend one night there... it wasn't enough, though... can't wait to go back and bring my family with me!

Magnificent Everything

Magnificent! The owners are passionate, friendly, and interesting to chat with! Everything was homey and felt like visiting mom's place, but you dont have to do dishes! We were blown away by our two course, unique german-style breakfast. Connie was just delightful and we will be returning! The town was adorable and in a perfect location for a getaway, with quaint bars, restaurants, wineries, and trails near by!

We had a great getaway weekend at the Green Tree Inn in Elsah. Its amazing that such a quaint hamlet exists so close to St. Louis. The only reason for five...

stars is there is no provision for SIX!! Connie and Gary are really nice folks. Booking was easy peasy. No worries that we were arriving later than we thought...AND to boot there were fresh baked chocolate chip cookies waiting for us! (There was a new sweet treat every afternoon, all homebaked...no frozen anything). Breakfast is whatever yer little heart desires...even if you say ENOUGH!! lol We'd eat about 8:30am, go about our day, and reluctantly look for a light meal for supper ('cause breakfast was ALL that!!).

Clean rooms...heck, the only thing I can pick at is we're used to a king bed and they have queens...but they WERE comfy. The proprietors know MUCH of the history of Elsah and the surrounding area. We took their advice on a couple of their recommendations and were certainly not disappointed.

We shall return!! (Don't cry Connie!!)

Our stay at the Green Tree Inn was wonderful. We had a hiccup in our reservations (caused by us and not them) and Connie was so great to work with and prompt with her emailed replies. Our room was clean and comfortable and our breakfast and afternoon snack was delicious. I would highly suggest the Green Tree Inn.

We stumbled onto this place because we had heard of Grafton but places there we tried were booked. We really lucked out as this place and the little town of Elsah were so much better than Grafton. The place was very nice and immaculate. The owners, Gary and Connie, were very friendly and helpful and made us a delicious breakfast. We would love to go back.

Loved Elsah and the Green Tree Inn! I felt like I was stepping back in time in this lovely bed and breakfast in a village of old stone houses. Breakfast was delicious, and we loved the sweet treats that waited for us at the end of each afternoon. Hosts Connie and Gary were so nice, giving us a private tour of the town's museum and lending us bicycles to ride on the bike path along the Mississippi River. We were well taken care of and couldn't have asked for a more peaceful and charming experience.

Made a cold winter stay into a delightful experience

Stayed 2 nights and had a wonderful time. Connie and Gary have great knowledge of the area, including interesting sites and restaurants. You can see the Mississippi river from the table were Connie serves you a wonderful breakfast and the afternoon sweet treats are great. Really neat, quaint town. We saw bald eagles over the Mississippi and Illinois rivers. Would love to go back.

Home Away From Home

I have stayed here 3 times now and really don?t want to stay anywhere else! Gary and Connie are amazing and really do a GREAT job at making you feel comfortable. Right away they confirm/ask about any dietary restrictions and offer activities/events that are going on around the area during your stay. Then they show you how to get around the house, the dining room, kitchen, and your room. The rooms are clean and the beds are AMAZING! They offer bikes to ride around the town of Elsah and a fire pit to sit by weather permitting. The food has been different every time I have stayed and each time I ask for the recipes..thanks Connie! There is also so much to do around the area that we decided to stay 2 nights this last time. Elsah is right in the middle of it all and the town in and of itself is rich with history and provides a lot to look at and explore. Gary and Connie are honest, good, genuine people truly providing a home away from home. I told them last time that there was a part of me that didn?t want to share this place with anyone else but I have to...You have to check this place out!

My wife and I have vacationed along the Great River Road from Alton to Grafton, Illinois for the last 40 years. Our usual haunts were booked up with wedding activities in the area this November, so we went looking for a B&B. What a delight to happen on to the Green Tree Inn and Innkeepers Connie and Gary Davis. They are now at the top of our lodging preferences when in that area. These two very special people, with their culinary talents and the attention they pay their guests, made our visit an exceptional experience. Plenty of space, elegant coziness, mouthwatering evening treats and delicious gourmet breakfasts are the focus of this review. I would also add that Connie and Gary were a delight to visit with as well. We have stayed at many B&B's over these many years in the U.S., the U.K. and Europe. The GreenTree does it as well, if not better, than all our previous hosts.

Can't Wait For Our Sixth Visit!

This was the fifth time that we've stayed at this B&B and it was just as charming as the first. Connie and Gary are such gracious hosts! There is always plenty to eat at breakfast (someone at our table had three servings of Connie's pumpkin pancakes--and it wasn't me!) and I just love the afternoon treats that are prepared from scratch. The inn was extremely clean, the free WIFI worked well, it's in an adorable village and you can't ask for friendlier hosts than them. We already made our reservations for next year! If you're looking for a nice get-away this is the place to go...and I promise that you won't be disappointed!

A great stay at a wonderful B&B in the Fall

My wife and I make an annual trip with another couple to B&Bs in Missouri and Illinois. We've been at it for 15 years and have found some great ones and some that were disappointing. The Green Tree Inn ranked high with all four of us.

Shortly after arrival we were served caramel brownies, a delightful taste of things to come. Free beverages in the fridge and a tour of the property were also included. The room was quiet, a commodity not always provided in Bed and Breakfasts. The bed was quite comfortable and of good size. We even had access to a large fire pit and spent two enjoyable hours by a nice fire.

The breakfast the following morning was large and delicious. Baked apples with granola and nuts started us off, followed quickly by sticky buns and coffee cake. The sticky buns melted in the mouth. Then came the piece de resistance, a breakfast casserole with Italian sausage, hash browns and sauteed vegetables. A Keurig (with a good selection of coffees and teas) was also available.

Connie and Gary Davis are running a very nice place and can fill you in on places to go and good restaurants in the area.

I had a lovely stay in the Meadowlark Room. The Green Tree is the cleanest, best decorated, nicest B&B I've ever stayed in. The hosts, Gary & Connie, were charming. They were very well-versed in the history of the village of Elsah and had their fingers on the pulse of what was happening all around the area so they could suggest interesting excursions. Gary even opened the Elsah Museum for us so we could find out more about the place. And Connie's cooking--yum! From the superb pineapple upside-down cake that greeted us on arrival Friday night to the roasted apples & farmer's casserole for breakfast the next morning, it was delightful, delicious, de-lovely! If you're looking for a sweet little getaway, I'd recommend The Green Tree Inn without any reservations what. so. ever.

Just finished another fabulous weekend get away to the green tree inn!! Inn keepers are now friends!! Connie and Gary are the perfect hosts!!! There is no need to ask for anything because it is at your fingertips!! The inn is immaculate , food is always delicious but the smiles keep us coming back !! The village is so quiet and a historic gem , enjoyed beautiful River road, visited the local state park, rode ferry to st Charles one day just a great weekend retreat!! Charming ambiance, gracious hosts, historical riverside town

The best part of my trip

Connie's hospitality at the Green Tree Inn knows no bounds. She has an incredible ability to make you feel completely at home and pampered at the same time! The guesthouse is absolutely spotless. Our room was beautifully decorated and comfortable. But on top of all of this stands Connie's herself and her amazing breakfasts!! I would recommend anyone to stay here. We're sorry to leave!

Perfect base for photographing the Mississippi River

The ONLY place to stay if you are visiting the area along the Mississippi River between Grafton and Alton. My husband and I spent a couple of days here while photographing the bald eagles. Our bedroom was delightful, with a super comfortable bed, impeccably decorated. Connie went over and above with her daily freshly baked cookies and imaginative breakfasts including blueberry and pineapple pancakes and baked eggs -- YUM! The Green Tree Inn provided us with the perfect base from which to find and photograph the bald eagles along the Great River Road.Thank you Connie! We will be back!

Connie and Gary were warm, friendly, gracious hosts, who tried to make our stay pleasant and inviting through their warm hospitality, delicious home cooked breakfasts and freshly made cookies, and through their easy conversational manner and suggestions for places to see and activities to try during our stay there. The Inn is nestled in beautiful Elsah, a quiet, little community, near the Mississippi River and Great River Road, framed in a sense of a time long past, with many homes echoing 19th century appearance and qualities. This place calls to mind J.R.R. Tolkien in his book The Hobbit, where he speaks of a place where \" . . . there is more green than noise.\" Elsah is a lovely, place, reminiscent of a time past, and this Inn, was a gentle, cozy, inviting place to stay, and to pause for a while on one's journey.

Great Time at Green Tree

This bed and breakfast was the perfect place to spend a relaxing time in lovely Elsah, Ill. The accommodations were great with a comfy bed, clean modern bathroom and TV. Principia Alum...stay here!

We were in town for the Principia Reunion...and yes we stayed at the dorms. Never again...as the fabulous Green Tree Inn in a stones throw from campus and uber comfortable. The beds were super comfortable, Connie the innkeeper was accommodating and even pointed out the local deer who went walking past. The rooms were bright and clean, the breakfast was delicious and they had real COFFEE. Oh it was a treat. We will be returning again and again...while I love visiting the campus, I don't need to stay in a dorm room when I know Green Tree Inn is just down the hill. Thank you Connie for the warm visit and the cookies we took on our plane trip home.

A Wonderful Retreat

Delightful and Delicious!!

Brought my mom on an overnight trip for her birthday. Lots of antiquing in the surrounding communities! The Green Tree Inn B&B was a great find! Our room, the only one with 2 beds, was absolutely charming - beautifully decorated in a soft and soothing pale mint green with 5 white shuttered windows that let in lots of natural light! Plenty of in-room lighting as well, plus a ceiling fan that is quiet and felt wonderful (didn't even need the air conditioner!). No TV in this room, but that's ok because there is a lovely and comfortable sitting area downstairs with TV (although we didn't need it), antiques to look at and interesting books to read. B&B was impeccably clean and well-maintained. Breakfast was a delight. Connie is an excellent cook and hostess - fresh fruit and yogurt, peach blueberry baked pancakes, and egg, cheese & ham cups. All absolutely delicious! Oh, and there were homemade treats awaiting our arrival last night - snickerdoodle cookies and some kind of yummy chocolate caramel bars! Be prepared to be asked if you have any food allergies or foods you don't like because that level of consideration is a part of their hospitality. If you are looking for a relaxing and inviting place to stay, you can't do any better than this! Wander around this quaint historic village to feel like you stepped back in time. And if you are here on a Thurs, Fri, Sat or Sun, you can get a wonderful lunch just a stone's throw away at The Cultured Table Bistro (starting sometime in July they will also be open for dinner-check their website!). Just lovely, in every way!

The Green Tree Inn is a gem! My husband and I have stayed in many B and B's across the US over the last ten years and this one ranks at the top of the list. In every way, this was the experience that we look for in this type of lodging. The room and grounds were clean and well-kept and breakfast was delicious and filling. In addition, there were extra touches like late-afternoon snacks and complimentary water, soda, coffee throughout the day. These are all important ingredients to a successful B and B, but the key component that makes a stay memorable is the warm hospitality of the owners. It's apparent that Connie and Gary take pride in their establishment and love people. We felt as though they were old friends. If you are planning a trip up the River Road, Grafton offers a lot of activity, from wineries, to zip-lining to fun nightlife. But when it's time to step away, refresh and enjoy the serenity of a beautiful historic town, the Green Tree Inn in Elsah fits the bill. We had a wonderful time and hope to return again soon.

Just like, no, better than home!

This is my second time to the Green Tree Inn. Both visits were wonderful. I stayed in the Meadowlark Room each time, and this room is so cozy and comfortable. I rested very well in the bed, just like I was at home. The bedrooms and common rooms are clean, and also well decorated without being fussy. Makes for a very relaxing atmosphere. Greg and Connie are so friendly and hospitable, and again I felt like I was at home. The food is great. We got wonderful treats in the afternoon, and yummy breakfast in the morning. A great variety of beverages available all of the time. Several of us ladies traveled together to celebrate birthdays, and we had fun playing games at the dining room table in the evening, sitting outside on the back porch in the rocking chairs, watching the chipmunks and hummingbirds, taking pictures in the garden, and walking the beautiful village of Elsah. This is a great place to unwind and relax. Would recommend to anyone.

Excellent bed and breakfast

This is my second stay here, I came with a group of girls each time. We had a very relaxing weekend, it rained on Saturday so I sat on the covered porch drinking a cup of coffee listening to the rain. The town is so quaint and peaceful. The innkeepers are the sweetest people and know how to take care of their guests requests. I've stayed in the hummingbird room and room 5(the one with two beds and no tv), both were extremely clean and adorable. Now the best part comes Connie's cooking, she feeds you the best tasting breakfast fit for a king or shall I say queen. She also bakes cookies and even made a pistachio cake for our friends bdays in the evenings. I would highly recommend this b&b to anyone looking to relax and enjoy some good food. Thanks for a pleasant stay!

Green Tree Inn

So many people write about being made to feel at home at B&B's, but this one takes the cake. The owners love what they do and it shows! This delightful little inn and owners Gary and Connie offer you the perfect balance of privacy and availability. The fact that their living quarters are separate (but steps away if you need them) makes you feel so comfortable going to the dining/living area to get a cup of coffee, tea or cocoa or grab a water or soda out of the fridge at any time, day or night. Connie makes a delicious dessert which we all enjoyed. She said that she sometimes has them ready at check in but the nights we were there, they were out for the evening which we really enjoyed after coming back from dinner in Grafton or Alton. If you felt like socializing with the other guests, you could but if you wanted privacy, you could take your dessert and drink up to your room. Now we get to the best part... The breakfast were the BEST I HAVE EVER HAD - HANDS DOWN. We ate more than we should have but could not resist. We will be back!

Great Anniversary Get-a-way

My husband & I spent a weekend there celebrating our anniversary & were excited for a weekend away. The town of Elsah & the towns of Alton & Grafton were perfect. Elsah is a beautiful, historic town. The owners were great & recommended a tour of the Elsah museum, although small it?s very interesting. The town was friendly & has a cute park. We took our bikes & rode through town & walked up to a gorgeous view of the river, especially with spring in full bloom! We found the inn on Living Social & then did some research. You will find great reviews because of the friendly, hospitable service that Connie & Gary provide. I truly hate to even use the word service because it really felt more like we were staying with friends/family. It was that comfortable. Connie has breakfast & food more than covered. She made a wonderful breakfast casserole & blueberry bread one morning. The next morning was sausage & your choice of cinnamon apple French toast or cinnamon raisin bread pudding. She gladly allows you to sample both! She also makes yummy baked treats, which we made sure to find our way back to the inn to sample. One afternoon we had a chocolate cake & the next day was chocolate chip cookie bars. Seriously everything was phenomenal. If that wasn't good enough before we had even arrived she asked if we had any dietary requirements. She even catered to our dislikes, which wasn?t necessary, but thoughtful! Finally, we spent most of our time in Grafton. We love a glass of beer or wine & this town has both. The wine was fantastic at the Grafton Brewery & Winery. We felt the wine was their strength. However, if you want a good pint of beer the Grafton Harbor Marina & Floating Winery is a great place to get one. All in all our stay was comfortable, the food yummy & the company of Gary & Connie was friendly & informational. We have already recommended this place to friends & will most definitely stay there again when we come to that area.

Wonderful Weekend Getaway!

This was the 1st time my wife and I had stayed in a B&B. It was an awesome experience! Gary and Connie made us feel right at home and made us feel like we were staying at our family's home. Connie is an incredible cook! The breakfast and snacks were homemade and were absolutely incredible! The property is very clean and in great repair. Gary does a great job with the upkeep and maintenance. The Village of Elsah is beautiful, peaceful, and quiet, and the beauty of the Bluffs and the river add to the charm. We had such a great experience that we decided to return next month. Thanks Connie and Gary for a great experience!

This place takes vacationing to a whole new level!!!

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel right at home. The rooms are amazing. As far as the food, Connie goes above and beyond, Gordon Ramsay himself couldn't find anything to complain about as far as the meals go, in fact were he to ever eat here I am sure the only thing he would say would be Thank you ma'am, may I please have some more. Connie and Gary really make you feel like you are staying with family I will be recommending this place to everyone and hope to plan another stay soon.

Lovely Peaceful Getaway

We spent a night at the Green Tree Inn, wanting to get away from our usual busy weekend routine. This was the perfect setting. Innkeepers Connie and Gary Davis made us feel very much at home. Nice little details like home baked brownies and complimentary coffee and tea were available throughout our stay. Lovely living room setting with a cozy fireplace was the perfect cap to our day. The sleepy little town of Elsah was exactly what we wanted: quiet and away from the hustle bustle. Highly recommend it for a quaint get away. We'll be back!

A spectacular experience from start to finish

Connie and Gary went above and beyond to make our stay an absolute delight. You couldn't find two individuals more suited to the hospitality industry. To start, the room was just what we were looking for-it smelled wonderful, had beautiful furnishings, and was extremely clean. It was also a great value for the nightly rate. Our breakfast was positively incredible! The fruit and yogurt parfaits were scrumptious and we were talking about the stuffed apple french toast for days. We especially enjoyed having Connie and Gary's company as we ate. It felt like we were hanging out with close friends we had known for years! They are genuine, warm, gracious, and all around lovely people. Finally, the sweet treats in the afternoon were the best baked goods I have ever had. They even gave us leftover strawberry bread and Almond Joy brownie bars to take home! We will surely be back again soon.

Wonderful Weekend Get-away

Lovely B&B in a charming community.

Stayed here in late October with my sisters. Connie and Gary are awesome innkeepers. Breakfast and homemade treats were delicious. We were able to bring our sewing machines and spend quality sister time together quilting. The room was very spacious and comfortable. Nearby Grafton wineries and shopping was fun. Gary made us a cozy fire in the fire pit and had marshmallows for us to roast as we enjoyed our wine. Absolutely will stay here again and will recommend it to our friends.

OUTSTANDING!!

By far, this is the best Bed and Breakfast I have the privilege to be a guest. Gary and Connie are the nicest people, natural innkeepers in that they are friendly, welcoming, and sincere in making your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. They do treat you like family! The food is delicious!! My friends, who are like sisters to me, from my church, spent the weekend with me at the Inn to help celebrate my birthday and we are already making plans to go back next year to do it all over again!! Connie told us that they are working on a Honeymoon Suite to be announced later. Elsah, Illinois is a quaint community that is a must see!
