I've mixed views on this one.

I reached around 8pm and it took me 45 minutes to find this place. Fes is confusing and you will get lost so I'd have appreciated if the Riad had shared directions/ landmarks/ advice on how to reach them.

I am surprised nobody else's review has this issue. I'm guessing they all took the train pickup service that the Riad offers. I didn't as it's much cheaper to take a taxi.

The Riad is run by a very sweet lady who made sure I had breakfast every morning before heading out for the day.

The location isn't the best (it is NOT in Fes el Bali) so anything needs a walk and any walk increases the chances of you getting lost. Believe me, you will get lost.

The Riad in itself looks a bit rundown but it's still pretty. It has a gorgeous rooftop though and sunsets are very pretty.

We stayed in the Amber room for
Three nights. Spacious, massive bathroom, hot shower (not that you really need it), functioning aircon and wifi. Plunge pool a godsend after walking around Medina in 44deg! Not difficult to find after the first time, reasonable walk to restaurants, although catering was available. Friendly staff. Genuine riad experience.

Wonderful guest house!

Wonderful guest house! The service was excellent. They ere attentive to everything we needed. We ate one dinner there as well and the food was better than the best rated restaurant in Fes (where we ate a subsequent night). The only negatve was parking. This guest house is located in the Medina so parking is not right at the building. It must be purchased from a local several blocks away for about $3 USD for 24 hours.

Best Riad in Fez!

This is just an amazing Riad! I stayed here about 6 years ago and had such a wonderful time that I had to come back. Mr Jim and his lovely wife are such fantastic hosts and such great company. The location is perfect over looking the old city, the rooms have been updated and are now even more impressive! The food and service is top notch! We had a wonderful time and we can't wait to return!

I would start off by stating that the property itself is absolutely gorgeous. We had the terrace apartment and a great view. The owner is so friendly and both he and the staff, Fateha, are wonderful. Fateha arranged breakfast for us in the mornings, and got up very early on our departure date to make sure we were fed. They also arranged a porter for us and offerred to arranged taxi (we had already made arrangements for taxi).
HOWEVER, it is very difficult to get to this Riad from the main road, especially with baggage and a stroller. the path is very uphill and cobblestone, narrow, and with many turns. from the main road when the taxi drops you off, it take about 10 minutes to get to the Riad.
once you get to the main road, there are restaurants and shops and access to taxis and other means of transportation.

Refuge in the Médina

Love Riad Tara! The lady who runs the place is so lovely! She speaks French and I can understand a little so we managed to communicate as much as we needed! The meals she cooked for us were so incredibly delicious and some of the best we had on our travels. The Riad is lovely - safe, secure, clean, comfortable with a nice view and seating from the rooftop. It’s also just inside the Médina so easy to access by being dropped off (and the lady met our taxi). They also offer a shuttle to the airport with a driver who speaks perfect English, and a small spa with massage and a sauna! Highly recommend this stay! It feels like a labyrinth in the Médina and this is a nice refuge. The hotel is also named for Tara the owners 18 year old cat who is very sweet and reminded us of our own.

The place is inside of the medina, meaning no access by car, you have to walk with your belongings for 3 blocks+_, eventually you get your bearings and find the place, one recommendation for the manager is to offer an arrival pickup, wee see this in marrakech terminal, various peoples from different riads picking customers. The spa service was amazing and the food the same. Our room is in needs of a good update. In general the place is very good but isolated if you want to go around at night is a little scary because all the labyrinths of the medina with only very few people around. Definitely an unforgettable good experience that we wiil repeat in heartbeat.

Wonderful Hospitality

I had a lovely time staying at Riad Tara.
The room and the bathroom were spacious, clean, confortable, warm and well decorated.I enjoyed the swimming pool, the spa and the terrific view of the city from the terrace.
Jim,the owner and his assistant, Fatiha, were very welcoming and did their best to made my stay at the riad enjoyable.
At first, I felt it would be difficult for me to find my way since the riad is located deep inside the medina. However, my fear vanished when Jim assured me he would send someone to get me from the town to the riad if that would be better for me. As a great host, he wanted to make sure I was completed happy visiting Fes.
I really enjoyed my stay at Riad Tara. I would certainly stay there again and I recommend it to anyone who wants to have a wonderful time in Fes.

It is an old historical Riad which was nice, in the middle of Medina. It is easiest if you get someone to direct u to the house, if u are out and about, specially if late; don't waste time by following Google Map or a Map. You will waste time. This is the same for all Riads and part of experience of being in Medina.

Location was near the edge of the medina which was refreshing after spending the day in the winding narrow streets. Amazing view of the city from the terrace. Property was better than the pictures illustrate. Staff was friendly and accommodating and room was spacious and clean. Would come back!

Beautiful Riad close to Fes Medina

Our stay at Riad Tara was wonderful! When we arrived, Fatiha helped us with our luggage, and walked with us to find the exact location of the Riad.

It feels safe inside of the walls of Fes, as it has one gate, and then a little walkway to the main door. Inside is clean, well-kept, and beautiful.

Fatiha made us amazing traditional breakfast (free), dinner (15 eur per person) and tea throughout our stay. She is kind and helpful.

Our room was bigger than expected! With 2 rooms (stairs up to a second level with a single bed), and a large bathroom. The Riad also has a large 2 level terrace and a hammam, which I tried, which was also great!!

Overall, lovely experience and would stay again!

Lovely Riad in the Fes Medina

Riad Tara is well-located, quiet yet convenient, near the markets and many notable landmarks.
The space and structure are thoughtfully renovated, clean and lovely as is the staff, led by Fatiha,
who is attentive and cheerful. She prepares a delicious and varied breakfast which we greatly enjoyed
and highly recommend.

Close to all experiences in the old town

We were given a warm welcome by Fatiha the manager who turned out to be a \"Jill\" of all trades as she fixed a toilet problem, turned on heat for us as it was quite cold and cooked us the most fabulous meals we ever had in Morroco! We met the owner who was very friendly and helpful and we delighted in Tara the resident cat.Our room was super deluxe, large, with sitting room very tastefully decorated, Moroccan style. A perfect Moroccan experience!

Nobody opened us when we arrived. It was hard to find. We had to call and to speak with a guest, because the lady at the reception did not speak English. Our booking was not recognized by the hotel. The price was high, but the overall the rooms are nice.

Nice clean hotel with plenty of room for the three of us. Located at one end of the medina it was easy to get around and had the most wonderful terrace balcony with great views of the medina. A quiet peaceful hotel to relax in after hot days in fez.

The riad is beautiful, but the location is absolutely impractical for returning late at night or early in the morning ie not accessible by car. Coming early or late it is not safe for solo travellers and without explicit instructions in Arabic. I arrived late and my driver could not find it, so we were left to park in Fes for several hours due to a miscommunication from the hotel. There was no hot water for three non-consecutive nights although this was rectified when I made a complaint. Prices are quoted in euros which I considered a red flag and not a \"convenience\", especially as euros are not available in Morocco and exchange rate is high.

The chauffeur hired by the hotel to drive me to the airport for departure overcharged me by 100 dirhams (asking for 250 dirhams instead of the agreed hotel price of 150) and refused to give me change. This was more or less in keeping with my experiences with taxis and drivers--as prices must be agreed upon in advance when not using metered services--but unfortunate given I hoped it would be standardized pricing given he had been explicitly hired. Recommend having exact change if you agree to use their driver as this was blatantly dishonest.

Overall the service is very good and the two women who provide service, breakfast, delicious tea are truly charming. Based on other riads I visited (for their hammam, meals, cooking classes etc), the value and service at other comparable riads is superior.

We were here during Ramadan so things were quiet in the Medina and at the Riad. It was like having your own private Fez. The service was some of the best we have ever had in any trip. And Istisam took care of our every need and was so helpful to arrange restaurants and guides. It was my favorite stay in our 2 weeks in the country. And the best chicken Tagine we had was at the Riad; so don't miss it. You shall not be disappointed with this little gem. The view from the roof is the best in the city.

Riad Tara is calm, quiet and elegantly refurbished, ideally located for touring the medina. The staff were extremely hospitable and friendly. The room was charming, clean and comfortable. We had one dinner at the Riad, which was a delight.The alleyways leading to the Riad could do with some serious clean up, but other than that, a highly recommended accommodation.

Most Helpful Staff Ever

Riad Tara is an adorable riad in a great location - but it's the staff who work there that make this a great place to stay! The woman who runs the riad was the kindest most helpful person ever and she made our stay in Morocco that much easier. The moment we arrived she greeted us with tea and made dinner arrangements for us at a nearby restaurant - as if that wasn't enough she even had her sister walk us to and from the restaurant so we wouldn't get lost (the medina is VERY confusing). She arranged for us to have an official guide the next day and a tour of Meknes and the Volubilis the following day. Anything we needed she gave us and when we weren't asking for anything she sought us out to make sure we had everything we needed! The staff here are wonderful - seem to really understand how stressful and difficult it is for an english-only speaking visitor. They were always helping and always smiling! If we could re-do our trip we would've stayed in Fez at Riad Tara longer.

Nice riad BUT terrible location!!!

We loved our triple Amber room - a double bed & a small sitting area in the main section of the room and a small but private & comfortable single bed in the loft. The bathroom was large - perfect for 3 people sharing a room. The common area - courtyard & library/dining area are also very nice. The rooftop terrace offers great panoramic views of Fez and there's a small hamam. Overall, the riad is very nice, however, the location of the riad is terrible! While it's not too far to walk to from Bab Jdid, it's virtually impossible to find the riad. We took a taxi from the train station and asked the driver to call the riad who sent someone to meet us where the taxi dropped us near Bab Jdid... In addition, to walk to shops/restaurants, we had to walk through narrow, dark alleys for about 15mins which is okay during the day but rather scary at night... It's unfortunate that this nice riad is located in an inconvenient & not the best neighborhood....
As mentioned by everyone, Btissam is very nice, polite but she seems disingenuous... seems very keen to \"sell\" us expensive, upscale dinners at the old palace & restaurants... She's reluctant to recommend cheaper eating options or claims to not know much other than the more expensive dining options... BTW, we found Snak Malak nearby which offers excellent value for money meals.

The riad is great and we felt like at home. The Btissam was very helpful. She arranged a pick up from the train station at 2:30 a.m. and was there for any questions all the time. Breakfast was delicious and so was dinner. The location is on the edge of Medina, but the walk is lovely. We didn’t have any difficulties with finding it, but for the first arrival I would suggest a pick up. We would love to go back.

A Gem in Fes

Riad Tara served as a great home base for 3 days of exploring Fès.
The property was charming and the terrace offered better views of the medina than any \"restaurant Panorama\" inside it. Day and evening manager Tissam was attentive, pleasant and very adept at co-ordinating our needs. The Sapphire room was spacious and well-decorated, although the bathroom was a bit worn.
The chicken tagine we enjoyed in the Riad was the best we had in Morocco.

Great riad on the edge of the medina

I tried to find Riad Tara on my own, but when I failed to and called from a nearby hostel, Btissame was more than happy to come collect me. This was just the first of the pleasantries offered by the staff. She offered me tea on my arrival and told me that Jim, the owner, had upgraded me to a larger room at the same price for my extended stay. How welcoming!

Fatiya, the other staff member, is a wonderful cook and I enjoyed three meals at the riad. When I asked Jim where I could arrange a cooking lesson, he and Fatiya offered that I could watch her prepare dinner for the evening. Fantastic! That included a visit to the market to acquire the ingredients. Back at the riad, I stood back and watched her skillfully cook lamb tagine with entrees and dessert. She speaks virtually no English and I speak only poor French, but we managed just fine. A memorable experience!

Btissame also arranged an excellent guide for a daytrip to the MIddle Atlas.

Riad Tara is a beautiful riad. The owner and staff were great. We had a really well English speaking lady our first night and she was great to explain the Fes area out to us the best we could understand (over 9000 streets in the Medina). She booked us a guide to take us the next day around the Medina and he was very helpful and kind as well. Just be warned as the workers in the medina really want your business (and I think the guide gets a cut of the deal). We were originally going to have the guide for a half day for 150dh (3hrs) but ended up having him for 4. Another warning with the guide he took us around for 4hrs then after us explaining to him we are travelling on a budget he took us to a resturaunt where it was a 4 course meal for 270dh per person. Then he took off and was done with the tour with us when we had to pay for a full day (400dh). He was worth the tour though as then streets if Fes are confusing. The riad is a bit off the way of the medina but once you figure your way to the medina gate (note not the main blue gate) then into the medina. The riad was great but I was not a big fan of Fes as I didn't feel safe in the Medina.

Ideal place to stay in Fes

Riad Tara is managed by a friendly French couple who make every effort to make you feel at home. The Riad itself is a beautiful three-storey house in the Fes Medina, with a large patio where you can keep fresh during hot afternoons. The rooms are large and nicely decorated. The kitchen staff prepare delicious breakfasts in the morning, and are always happy to offer refreshments at other times. The owners are very helpful in suggesting things to do and places to go. Overall, a great place to stay if you are going to Fes.

A very stylish, comfortable and welcoming riad in the old Fez Medina

Jim and Katherine must run the best riad inside the old Fez medina. The place is superbly stylish, beautifully comfortable, reasonably priced and exceptionally friendly. Breakfasts are included and the meals they served to us in the evening were great. We couldn't recommend this place enough.

À mon arrivée, on m'a dit que je n'avais pas de réservation. J'ai montré ma confirmation et mon reçu de paiement, mais ils ont haussé les épaules. Ils n'étaient au courant de rien et il n'y avait pas de chambres disponibles. Je devais repartir. Personne ne m'a aidé à résoudre le problème ni suggéré où passer la nuit. Le montant a été débité de mon compte et personne ne réagit pour résoudre le problème.

Agréable séjour au riad TARA, accueil sympathique et personnel discret. Le riad a du charme avec un joli patio et un grand bassin propre où l'on peut se rafraîchir. Mention spéciale pour le lit XXL très confortable dans la chambre romantique. Après exploration des alentours, le riad est bien situé dans la médina. Quelques minutes à pied du parking, de la Place R'Cif et de la Talaa Sghira. Merci Fatiha

Accueil excellent par un duo de choc totalement à votre service et aux petits soins. Caché au fond d'une ruelle de la medina, au calme, ce superbe riad est magnifique et confortable. La chambre qui nous a été attribuée, au 1er etage, était très confortable, joliment décorée, la literie impeccable et l'immense salle de douche magnifique avec sa douche à la marocaine et ses deux vasques carrelées. Petit déjeuner complet et gourmand préparé à la demande. Dîner délicieux concoctés sur place avec des produits frais du jour. La petite piscine nous a permis de nous rafraîchir. Et surtout, nous avons apprécié la séance de hammam et son gommage, puis le délicieux massage qui a suivi.

Tout était parfait au Riad Tara! Le lieu est somptueux, décoré avec beaucoup de goûts. Le propriétaire et le personnel sont aux petits soins. Les repas et les massages sur place sont divins. Et enfin le bassin pour se rafraîchir au retour d'une journée dans la médina est appréciable ! Nous y avons passé 5 nuits ce que je pense est parfait pour profiter de la médina et des alentours en prenant son temos.
Allez y les yeux fermés.

Riad authentique et merveilleux

Nous venons de passer 4 jours merveilleux au Riad Tara. Tranquillité, plaisir pour les yeux et le palais et Jim le patron est très accueillant! Tout pour passer des vacances à deux exceptionnelles. Fatia s’occupe de vous préparer de bon petit plat si vous le souhaitez et Jim vous proposera des circuits de visites au top! Le Riad est très bien placé, au calme de la medina tout en restant à quelques pas de celle-ci! Nous avions la chambre du haut, à côté de la terrasse sur les toits, au calme et avec une bonne connexion internet (important car au Maroc, votre forfait est mis à mal!). Les photos sont conformes à la réalité!
