Overpriced and inaccurate description of facilitie

Firstly this is not a 5 star hotel. 10-15 years ago maybe it was but this hotel is badly in need of some maintenance. Everything looks very tired. For instance our room (upgraded to what they call a villa as the main part of the hotel was closed) might have been a hi tech facility years ago but not now. It had a CD player in there which says everything. There were over 40 light controls with no explanation as to what they did. There is no WiFi in the room despite what the hotels.com description said. Reception said they were changing their supplier but I note a review from April said the same thing so I don’t think that is true. There was a nice infinity pool ( the hotel has a great view) but used by the pigeons to drink and bathe so not that hygienic. I consider this hotel is mis sold on hotels.com. None of the eating options apart from the restaurant exist (at least at this time of the year). There was a bar but it was never in use. Please review what you say on the hotel particulars as it is just not correct. As a result this hotel is way way overpriced for what it is. Can I say anything positive? Well we ate in the restaurant one evening and the food was very good. Breakfast was ok too but overall a poor value and very disappointing experience

Hotel itself was beautiful but some parts of the rooms were dated and needed to be updated. There were a lot of light switches and it became confusing at times. The view from the hotel was spectacular and the hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. I would recommend staying there.

Great staff who are working with what they have and doing what they can, but this hotel seems to have been neglected for a long time. No WiFi, run down plumbing, electric and fixtures, pools being filled with garden hoses and covered with pigeons, and half of the hotel is closed down, creating an eerie feeling. The one small elevator down that is still operating (out of 3), which is required to exit the property, is old, run down, and takes you to a graffiti-filled, filthy, unkept and very gloomy corridor out to the public street, which then still requires a long way to go down to where life begins again. I hate to give bad reviews ever, but these issues need to be addressed if you want to continue charging the highest prices in the area per night. Please bring this beautiful structure back to its glory days.

This hotel was the best in the area. Elevator from the hotel to the tow as convenient. Staff was so responsive, breakfast delicious and view amazing. It was a relaxing few days. Castles all around made it interesting. Wineries 40minutes away.

It’s a great property in a great location. It has a great pool and amazing views. Rooms are spacious as well.
I’m not sure if they were short staffed but the trash from rooms was in the hallways multiple times. The breakfast was unappealing with bees and flies hovering over the food which was left uncovered for the most part. Service at the restaurant was nonexistent.

It was an expensive hotel so I would say I overpaid based on the above observations.

Title: Beautiful Views, Worst Luxury Hotel Experience – Three Room Changes in Two Days

The location and view are stunning — but everything else about our stay was a major disappointment for the price. The property feels 20+ years out of date, with lighting, electronics, and fixtures often broken or unusable.

We were moved three times in two days:

Room 1: Front door wouldn’t lock from the outside, so anyone could enter when we left. Lighting barely worked, the private pool had no ladder or steps, the bath jets didn’t work, and there was no Wi-Fi.

Room 2: Air conditioning was broken and never cooled the room despite repeated complaints. Bathtub water ran brown, leaving a ring around the tub.

Room 3 (same day as Room 2): Finally had working AC, but still no Wi-Fi, the fridge didn’t work so all drinks were warm, and the steam room never heated properly.

Basic essentials — security, air conditioning, water quality, and functioning amenities — were ignored or mishandled. We even accidentally left behind cash, credit cards, and ID upon departure, adding to the stress.

Yes, the views are spectacular and the rooms are spacious, but with this level of disrepair and lack of service, it was one of our most expensive and most disappointing hotel stays ever.

The property is stunning! Pools are well maintained and perfect!! The breakfast is amazing with so many options. You can get filtered coffee or freddo coffee of your liking.

The property needs maintenance. It is not worth the price they are asking. They rate it is a 5 star hotel and i can definitely see that it was this in the past. But they haven't updated things and it's definitely not a 5 star. The elevators to the main town were broken. So the hotel had to call us a taxi to get back up. They had no wifi in the rooms. They said it was broken but only worked in the restaurant.

They need to bring the price down to match the condition of the place.

Beautiful property but seems to be neglected. No wifi in the rooms, not enough furniture on our large balcony. Couldn’t figure out how to turn the lights on and off. The location and the view were breathtaking though and the staff did their best.

The views of the city are incredible. Food was amazing and service was excellent. Private pool was a nice touch. However, they should have a skimmer available so guests can get rid of debris in the pool. There were also alot of butttons in the room that did not work. There is an elevator that brings you closer to the city but you need to be prepared for significant walking up and down steps to get to the other main parts of town. Overall, we are very happy we chose to stay in this beautiful spot.

We recently stayed at Nafplia Palace, and while we enjoyed our time, it’s clear the hotel has seen better days. The lobby and part of the hotel are out of use, likely due to maintenance issues, which is a shame because you can tell this place was once something special.

The villas, though clean and still charming, are a bit dated.

The Not-So-Great:

- The TV was ancient—an upgrade would be nice, even if it’s not a necessity.
- Some obvious wear and tear throughout the property.
- Water pooled behind the bath with no easy way to drain it.
- The light switches were confusing and tricky to use.
- The pool’s pump on our room wasn’t working, so the shared pool didn’t clean itself.

The Good Stuff:

- The staff are fantastic—super friendly and really make your stay enjoyable.
- The infinity pool is amazing with gorgeous views.
- Onsite parking and easy town access via an elevator are big pluses.

All in all, you’ll have a good time here, but don’t come expecting the luxury it once offered.

This hotel is run down, everything is old, the lift to go down to the platia is dirty and unsafe. The pool area is average and the menu is limited. Needs a paint job, needs INTERNET AND NEEDS A FACE LIFT. The staff were amazing and very friendly. This is not a 5 star hotel, it’s more like a 3. Instead of making this place a hotel for people to come when in Nafplio, it’s nothing special and I will be looking to go elsewhere in the future.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel, top notch service. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the main town but if you are looking for the best views and serenity this is the place. I did not want to leave and I will return. I highly recommend it.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights last week. We made the reservation before reading some of the on-line reviews. After reading the reviews, some of which were pretty negative, we almost cancelled, but elected to go ahead with the reservation. That proved to be an excellent decision, as we absolutely loved Nafplia Palace Hotel. The location is fantastic, the room was one of the most amazing I have ever stayed at, service and food were wonderful. We chose a villa with a private pool, and paid an extra fee to heat the pool, which was very nice. The room was huge. There are many electrical switches in the room, and that took some getting used to, as well as a bit of instruction from the staff, but this was just a small distraction rather than a big issue. We had a rental car, so the plentiful free parking was a benefit. Our experience was excellent, but from some of the other reviews it may depend on what room you get, and in our case we have no complaints. If we go back to mainland Greece we would look forward to staying here again. Part of the hotel consists of villas, and another part, which is currently closed, is comprised of what we were told are conventional hotel rooms. We were very happy with the villa we were assigned.

The hotel location is fantastic and the view is the best you can get in Nafplio but the property is run down. The pool areas are furnished with extremely old cheap loungers and overall you get a feeling of abandonment. The rates are insane given the existing condition and the amenities.

This hotel is like a post-apocalyptic Stanley Kubrick film set. The brutalist modern design from the 70s is stunning and the views are unparalleled, but the actual hotel is closed because it need renovations - only the villas are open - and there is a sense that the property might literally be shuttered at any moment. We had only lukewarm water, the light in our room didn't work – nor most of the 20 70s-high-tech gadgets like the privacy screen in the bathroom – and the wifi was out both evenings of our stay, but when I asked the lovely staff about these issues, I was met with blank stares and in one case, a defensive attitude.
There are three elevators from the hotel that travel from the top of the fortress where the hotel is located through bedrock down into the town. Two of them are \"temporarily\" closed for repairs and, based on past reviews, appear to have been so for 2 years. The elevator opens out into a sort of underground lobby that is beautiful in the pictures on the website but, in fact, is dank and covered in graffiti. When I went for an early morning walk, I found an escort because I was scared of getting stuck in the elevator alone, and because I didn't know what I'd discover when the doors opened into the abandoned lobby.
I hope that this hotel is able to restore its origin glory as it truly is a beautiful facility. But, until they do, I was extremely disappointed that they billed themselves as a luxury facility - and charged accordingly.

great view but $1000+ a night, needed to be better

positives: check in staff/restaurant were kind and friendly, the breakfast & view lovely,however, 1st room (we paid for the ambassador suite with private pool) initially given room 401. Size was great ,but, even for pre-covid standards the room was unhygenic. There was a sticky beverage spill down front of mini kitchen cupboard, the bathroom counters had staining, water and appeared to not have been cleaned. There were liquid stains around the toilet and running down wall behind the toilet. The room smelled very musty and unclean. The patio furniture was coming apart. 3 staff came to see and all agreed not to standard so bought us a drink while we waited another hour for another room (already past 5 pm). The next room was significantly smaller but cleaner. We were tired & took the room but it was not the 950-1150 sq foot size of ambassador suite, rather approx. 650 sq feet one bathroom sink, no sink/microwave. No renumeration for the difference in suite level, told it was ambassador suite but no ambassador suite online was close to that small. The pool had wall unit and jets to swim as a lap pool, they said never hooked up the jets & pool not heated, cold. No wifi reception - staff said that wing of hotel never has. It is problem for those needing to do any business or streaming. Elevators to the town were broken & driveway up hill too long and steep for most to walk. Had to drive & parking challenging in town. Maritsa & George the luggage assistant were great.

We chose this hotel for the last 2 nights of our stay in Greece to be the \"star\" of our trip - the photos of the pool really caught my eye but in reality the large pool was a strange turquoise and I never saw them clean it - so I was not keen to go in (and I swim everywhere!) and there was a lot of noise from the work they are doing in the port - 2 large cranes are dragging dirt up from the bottom of the sea and putting it on huge boats to be carried away - which makes a lot of noise (October 2019). The infinity pool in the photos is for use by the bungalow but it is small - smaller than you imagine from the photos. The staff are cold and professional but clearly this is just a day job and they look at every guest as a walking wallet rather than being warm and caring - the only hotel we stayed in where we felt like we were being given a favor that we could stay there - and the place was pretty empty! The only exception were the staff in the breakfast room who were lovely and attentive and very warm. Shame they can't replace the lobby staff! We changes rooms as the twin beds were fixed in place to the floor and around the fixtures the carpet was all threadbare and looked not very appealing... but in the end the other room they gave us was less nice and much more noisy - to sit on the balcony you felt you were inside other families, so we ended up moving back to the first room. The hotel is exciting - you are up on the top of the cliff with views but we didn't enjoy it

This hotel is a very old hotel, late 60' early 70' I think.
NO WIFI (only in lobby)
I got a refurbished room. very nice. I got a glimpse on other rooms. not as nice.
Common areas are remained old un-refurbished.
Breakfast buffet was excellent.
The best thing about this place, is the amazing view, overlooking the town and the sea.
My room was very spacious and comfortable.
Balcony with wood floor, very comfortable furniture, clear glass rail, breathtaking view.
Air jet bathtub and a large shower. TV in front of bathtub.
The location is very special. it is up on top of a hill, so must use a car (or taxi) for going down-town.

The hotel is a little tired in that the basic maintenance is not being done , such as re painting the wood work attending to the garden , furnishings . Also the Wi Fi did not work in our room the whole week we were there .

On arrival we were upgraded from ‘bungalow’ with shared pool to one with private pool - great we thought but this was because our original rooms were being renovated. If we wanted to use our private pool we would be charged an additional 85euros per day to heat it (in April this would be necessary!). Rooms are very nice and spacious. Basic room cleaning but we only ever saw one lady doing the rounds and then doing the weeding along the way. Our room safe didn’t work on arrival but was fixed the following day. Views beautiful, except for 2 industrial dredgers at work from dusk til dawn but this of course is not the hotels fault.Technology in the rooms took a good 5/10mins instruction- good luck remembering it all, pretty much trial and error. Breakfasts basic buffet, no freshly cooked eggs etc. Superb location above the old town, but only if the lifts are operational otherwise it’s a taxi ride or long walk down/up. Only one lift out of three worked on our arrival, then that broke. WiFi does not exist even though you are given the codes, only in the lobby - they apparently they ask the technician to look into it but don’t expect anything. Overall, this hotel could be the 5 star you expect it to be, but I’m guessing it’s the management who let the running of the place down badly. Lovely helpful chap who seemed to do everything from front of house, luggage porter, concierge and general Mr Nice Guy, but he can only do so much.

What an exceptional experience! The setting of this hotel is nothing less than spectacular, high above the old city overlooking the sea. Unique indeed. Loved the airy poolside café and the lobby living rooms as welcoming escapes from the intense summer heat. Great hotel in a lovely tourist-friendly small port city.

We arrived earlier than 21:00&escorted to a room in the main old building, where the rooms are old too. We have paid 390£ for 2 nights and received a room with a bath full of rust and furring. The bathroom photos are from another room in Expedia and other brokers. We denied to stay & we've been shown 2 others (exactly the same). We've been also informed that we haven't booked a renovated room! Indeed! Cause there is no prior notice at the time of booking.
We then been escorted to another hotel or sth and seen another room which was located at the level of the road (full of noise and people), no panoramic view, but new. We felt frustrated & nervous cause we again had to say NO and seem that way, demanding and ungrateful.
We requested another option when an up sale was offered to a bungalow, with the addit. charge of 240£. When you can't offer what a guest has paid for you do not sale another type, you upgrade to another type. It is not about the money but it's all about the mentality! We finally asked for a refund a 22:00 to go and find another place to stay.
We then offered a free upgrade to a bungalow with a private pool. The room was great, clean, spacious and beautiful! The free upgrade was a room with a pool, no view as booked but the pool was not working. The lights were burnt, cannot be fixed, all day&night full of leaves and the overflow was not working too. The technician ensured me that was functional but I have an internal overflow pool at home!
In general was OK!

Spectacular views in a beautiful and unusual setting. The hotel is incorporated into a historic fortress. Each room is unique and all have amazing views. We were upgraded to bungalows on arrival. The staff was generally very nice. When we had trouble with our rental car the staff was incredibly helpful. We really enjoyed our time at the hotel and in the charming town below. Will definitely plan to go back for another stay.

Old luxury hotel in process of revival

This is a unique property. The service was impeccable and courteous and the included breakfast had many, many delicious choices. The hotel appears to be undergoing a makeover, but slowly so showing a little raggedness here and there (in the older part of the hotel). Lots of tech things in the room, which my grandson loved. The pool and the views were lovely and free parking on site was an extra bonus.

Fantastic position overlooking Nafplio

Really 5 star experience: clean, modern,excellent staff. Good buffet breakfast but I would say the hotel is let down by its inferior restaurant:wonderful setting but very poor food. Take the lift down to town and enjoy real tasty Greek food.
Great large room with all mod cons, access to infinity pool with sun loungers. Overall good value for money. We stayed in the villas.

The Hotel location is stunning, high up and overlooking the sea. The views are wonderful. The hotel is undergoing refurbishment which will make it just perfect. There is an elevator to take you down to the town.

Perfect hotel, fantastic stay!

After 16 hours of flying and a 2 hour drive we were so excited to relax and unwind. Our villa was outstanding!! You MUST experience the private plunge pool villa for yourself. Perfect respite when the sun was too hot to walk around. Located on a cliff a short drive to town, this hotel is a gem...and the town of Nafplia is charming and everything we wanted a small beach side town in Greece to be. We had the misfortune of visiting the ER in the middle of the night-they had a car waiting to take us and were at the door when we returned with hot tea and true concern at 4am. We will return!

Hotel aging with grace.

There is no way of disguising the aging of this hotel but it is still a wonderful place to stay. The view is fabulous, the accommodations were as expected (we have stayed there before), the drive up is hair raising, the staff are pleasant and helpful. If you can get beyond the tired furnishings this is a wonderful place to stay.

The hotel's location is simply awesome. It has an infinity pool with a view of the old city. The rooms are super clean, and spacious. Only problem is that it is somehow understaffed, it would take hours to get a drink at the pool.

Don't know why this hotel didn't get higher ratings from the guests. One of the best stays of my life. All types of amenities from Jacuzzi tub with TV to blinds controlled from bedside. The staff is very gracious, the breakfasts very good and the town 0f Napflion my favorite. While still touristy to a point, it is off the beaten path. Mostly Greek visitors. While the views in Santorini might be the most spectacular, the atmosphere in Napflion was, to me, much more relaxing. Definitely five star; superb rating.

Stylish & luxurious villa ... but

Solo getaway in a beautiful villa. An elevator connected the hotel with Nafplia town below; so this was a 5 minute 'commute'; and the town was always fun and interesting. Nafplia is an excellent & comfortable base from which to explore the Argolid Plain. The weather in spring was too cold to swim in the plunge pool, but I enjoyed sunbathing. The bathroom was less functional than stylish: one single stand mirror and one single outlet only -- this would have been awkward for two persons to share. Two sinks, but I had to ask for the hot water & water pressure to be repaired. Large & deep spa bath-tub which I enjoyed soaking in; and I used the steam function in the shower as well. Two small shallow drawers to stow toiletries in the sink area, but not deep enough for anything taller than 2 inches. The lighting & draperies were individually controlled by unlabeled switches, so it was a bit of a 'hunt & peck' process to try to open/close and turn on/off. The position of the drapery switch on the bedroom device was different from the position of the drapery switch on the bathroom device. Solution: label these with icons. All this said, this was a splurge and I thoroughly enjoyed myself, the villa, the sun, the view, the staff, the breakfast & the wifi immensely. Would I splurge on a villa again? Undecided -- but I will definitely consider staying at the property again.

Internet did not work at all. But the pool was terrific. The breakfast was the best we had in Greece. The elevator went down to the bottom of the hill for shopping. Great views from hotel.
