We stayed for 4 weeks, the hotel is situated on the Ping River. Breakfast sat looking over the river with the dawn chorus of birds is a relaxing experience. Rooms are tidy and grounds are a dotted with nice restful areas each with its own features. The swimming pool is shaded… so if you want a cool plunge…

During my stay, the bedroom had a damp and musty smell coming from the curtains, pillows, and blanket. I’m not sure if these items are changed for every new guest.

The hotel was also renovating its coffee shop during my stay, which caused some noise that affected the rest.

The facilities were quite limited, and parking space might not be enough during long weekends.

There was only one staff member on the night shift who seemed to handle many tasks alone.

It would be great if the hotel could improve ventilation and reduce humidity in the rooms, as the musty smell from the bedding and curtains was quite noticeable.

Lovely small resort alongside the Ping River. Only blocks away from a busy road yet very quiet. Not really a walkable area around the resort, but there’s no reason to want to be somewhere else. A Grab cab can easily whisk you away to the chaotic downtown. Just be sure to get a room with a direct view of the river.

The property was well kept and very peaceful which is what I was hoping for but it had very limited dining and not much was in the area once the cafe was closed. There is a $200 key deposit that I found really strange considering they are the plastic ones. Overall my stay was great!

Pleasant getaway.

I booked 3 nights for our son and wife to enjoy the bathtub as few places here have them. Check in went okay but WiFi and water had to be turned on after their arrival. Breakfast could have had more selection but with Covid 19 and few guest that is understandable. The only complaint they had was that staff in the early morning hours could be heard talking in the restaurant and some with idle time were smoking by the pool which caused them not to go to the pool. Overall though they enjoyed their stay.

Nice hotel but poor management

The hotel was well-designed, very serene and isolated. We took a family room and it was very roomy with one 7-feet bed and one 3.5-feet bed. The only comment I have is management. I think the hotel policy and practise against COVID-19 is very weak. The breakfast buffet was served by staff with mask-off and all guests were allowed to access the food freely without any protection. The manager should take this issue more seriously.

Staff were nice. Breakfast was good. Room was clean. Downsides- far from town and you need to either take the shuttle that goes 2x per day or take a cab. It is inexpensive to get to and from. I wouldn’t consider this a 4 star. Room, mainly bathroom was outdated.

Lost its charm

This is the second time I've stayed here, however it is ageing, and things are not being updated, old towels, old furniture, old pool umbrellas, I booked the deluxe room and was given the same room I had about a year and a half ago, I realised the photos on the website are not the same as the room, no sofa chairs, and the shower is really dismal, if you put the shower on it sprays the shower curtain and wets the floor behind it.
I asked to change room, but nothing avaliable. My last stay in that room I was kept awake all night by guests next door having a party, on this occasion I'd hoped for a better experience. Breakfast used to be good but unfortunately is rather dull now.

Relaxing hotel right on the river

This hotel is located right on the riverside (you actually eat breakfast in the open air restaurant on the riverside)!

We booked a garden view room which is near the reception area overlooking a pond with ducks (they do wake you up in the morning with their quacks). The room was ideal but the bathroom could do with a refresh with paint.

Only five loungers around the pool so if it’s busy you could struggle to get one but it’s really relaxing there.

The hotel offer a shuttle service twice a day into Chiang Mai that’s free of charge. You just need to make sure you tell them an hour before it’s due to leave you want to book on it. One day it was just us so they booked us a taxi instead which was nice.

The hotel is a little far out of your not using the shuttles I’d suggest using a taxi app called Grab which is easy to use and good prices.

We were disappointed with the cleanliness of the room, we found a pair of dirty boxer shorts on the floor behind the sitting room table from the previous guest. The shower was very moldy and not so clean.The reception area upon arrival was untidy without a welcome drink or towel..would we stay agian probably not .. better vaule closer to town.

Nice hotel next to the River

Awesome stay. Resort is just by the Ping river. Very relaxing, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but still near enough to get there easily by car. We were welcomed by some cute ducks that live in the pond at the hotel extremely adorable and nice little touch to our stay. Breakfast was tasty and food was prepared very meticulously. Overall a very good stay!

This hotel is very beautiful and tranquil, just be warned it is considered 'far outside of the city' by most cab drivers. However they offer a complimentary twice a day shuttle into the city you just have to make your way back.
Breakfast was OK, normal fare you can expect in Thailand. The grounds of the hotel were lovely with a little pond as you enter with ducks which is super cute. And the back of the ground around the pool is lovely.
The bathrooms really need some work though. The door handle was falling off ours and there was just an odd smell inside the shower.
The beds are HARD as a rock! After a long day of sight seeing we didn't notice as much but on the first night it came as a bit of a shock.

We loved our stay at Lanna Dusita! We arrived hours before check in, however the staff got our room ready and let us check in early, with no fee. They were very welcoming. The staff helped line up transportation so we could get out. The resort itself is beautiful! We had a room overlooking the river and it was very relaxing and peaceful. I wish we had stayed longer.

Shuttle to town is good

The room was beautiful with the grounds being really pretty and garden oriented. The bed was very uncomfortable , but the black out curtains were nice to keep the sunlight out until ready to wake up. The walls were incredibly thin as we could hear a family of what sounded like 10 staying right next to us in an adjoining room every night of our stay, waking up at 6am with loud bangs/ talking etc. A very confused rooster lives in the farm next to the hotel that started at odd hours, 12am 4 am etc. The food at the hotel was over priced and not the best, Chiang Mai old city has a lot to offer food wise for very inexpensive so if I were you wait to get to town on the free shuttle / take an Uber and get some killer low priced street food. All that being said we enjoyed our trip to Chiang Mai and loved going into old city to explore. Go see doi suthep! Try not to get ripped off by tuk tuks trying to take all of your TB!!!

Relax by the river

Away from the busy city center, this hotel is a great place to stay. We recommend you use grab or Uber to get around. Tuktuk drivers don’t always want to go so far. The hotel provides a shuttle to the old city a few times a day to help you get your day started. Mrs. Latta will provide a wonderful breakfast right next to the river. We’d gladly return to Chiang Mai and stay here again

Beautiful scenery, however, if you are looking for a modern hotel, this is not it. The rooms are old and dirty, especially the bathroom. The water pressure was poor. The walls are thin. We could hear our neighbors walking/talking. Beds were decent, but there were holes in the sheets (again, old). Breakfast was nothing special. Location is not convenient, far from the center of the city and there is no food in walking distance, but it was relatively cheap to take uber (60-150 baht each way). The hotel provides a one-way shuttle to Tha Phae Gate, twice a day, but that's it. Front desk staff are all young students. They were polite but were not helpful in providing information about things to do in the area. We had to book our tours at an outside agency.

We stayed in 4 hotels in Thailand, all around the same price range. Overall, I was disappointed by this one. The hotel looks better in the pictures than it does in person. There are better options are available for the same price.

We (2 female, friends) took a taxi for about 20 min from CNX to the hotel, about 250 Baht. The hotel is on the outskirt of the town. Kind of a hassle if you want to go to all the night markets. We used uber and tuk tuk for our transportation needs. We also booked 2 tours and a spa session, which all three of them provided rides (to and from hotel). The hotel staff is super friendly and courteous. Good breakfast. Nice room and view from the balcony.

I stayed two nights separately in a week. The first night was allocated a room on the G/F. The room is a bit dim, other than that, all is good. When I came back later of the week, I stayed on the 1/F, the room is bigger and brighter than the one on the G/F. Both rooms are clean, staff is helpful, good breakfast is provided at the river side. Free bicycles is an added bonus.

Peaceful stay by the Ping

Lanna Dusita is located on the bank of the River Ping about 6 kms from the old town. A free twice daily shuttle service to Thae Pae Gate was a bonus and we used Uber to return.
We stayed for two one week blocks and really enjoyed the peaceful gardens, river view and the excellent pool. The river and pool view rooms were very comfortable. We would not recommend the garden rooms due to the noise of the ducks and the next door rooster.
The staff were exceptional.
We look forward to our next stay at Lanna Dusita.

Get away from it all

After a month of travelling around Europe I needed a holiday so that I could return home refreshed.I stayed at the Lanna Dusita for 4 nights but my hopes for lounging around the pool, soaking up the sun, were dashed by the bad weather. I did, however, manage to get the relaxation I needed as well as do some fantastic sightseeing.

Nice hotel to relax

Nice hotel! Large comfortable rooms, the bathroom is a bit small. Theres is a central pond with ducks and fish that adds a bit of cuteness to the plave. The pool is really nice, relaxing, and it is serviced by the nearby restaurant so you can have Armand bite of a drink by the pool area without much effort. There is access to the river and a small pier for river boats. The restaurant area is \"al fresco\" style, in an terrace oberlooking the river and surrounded by flowering trees, the options are limited and a bit pricey. The highlight of the hotel is its staff, very friendly and willing to help without hesitation.
It is located about 12 minutes by car from the old town and 17 minutes from the city center, so you need a taxi or rent a bike to go basically anywhere.

Loud and bug-filled, with unhelpful staff

Hotel was much farther from *everything* than I expected. Additionally, due to its rural location, there were frequent animal noises (think roosters crowing at 1 AM and dogs at all hours - not great if you plan to sleep). Although they offer a shuttle, it only runs twice per day (and only one-way) - if you want to go into town at other times, they will call a cab for you at more than three times the going rate (use grabcab instead). I'd wanted to use the pool, but there were always leaves/bugs in it.

There were constant bugs, no matter how much spray we used (although they suggested that we use *their* spray, available for a cost, instead, when we complained). When we checked out, they tried to charge us for a taxi ride we never took (to the airport in the middle of our stay), and the prices for items from the minibar were 5 baht higher than the ones posted in our room.

Pre-Inspection of rooms could save image

There was no pre-inspection of the room before we entered it. We immediately called staff back because the door to the adjoining room (occupied) was not locked nor could be from our room.
Next, we discovered the water was shut off for toilets, sink, shower and had to call for assistance.
When water supply was OK, there was a problem with water in shower...Scalding hot and could not be adjusted between scalding hot or very cold.
The main door lock and wood around the lock were also damaged and affected sense of security.
Otherwise, the room, gardens, and Riverside view were great.

Around 3 miles out of chiang mai, this hotel is a little oasis of calm. Lovely big rooms with big beds in apartment blocks set in stunning surroundings. Staff very helpful. We asked to change rooms due to a very noisy cockerel who liked to crow during the hours of darkness!! This was not a problem. Recommend using uber to get in and out of the town. Much cheaper than the taxis. Should cost less than 80 baht!!
Also there are some lovely restaurants about half a mile to the right of the hotel. Set opposite some shops on the same side as the hotel. I can't remember the name but they had live music in lovely surroundings and great food - just remember your mosquito repellent. About half a mile to the left on the same side as the hotel there is an authentic Thai restaurant with a lovely lady owner who speaks great English. Look for the red sign. It was all written in Thai so don't know the English name.

A very mixed bag.

First the good. The staff was all excel lent though with only moderate English language skills. Helpful and accommodating. The room was good size with plenty of hot water and average cleanliness. The river setting is really beautiful and peaceful if you choose to hang around the hotel. The not so good. This place is far from the main area of town. While there is twice daily free shuttle service, a shuttle back is a minimum of 200 bhat, and later at night can be difficult to obtain. It is a 90 minute walk. The food services are average at best with breakfast with eggs and meat, a few fruits, toast and some Thai dishes. Other meals were again average for the price. My room faced the check in desk and there is a rooster that reliably woke me at 5:15 every morning. I was put to sleep be a chorus of frogs every night. Really annoying. Lastly, the air conditioner was old and didn't cool the room off any more than the ambient air. So overall a 3+ rating, but certainly not 4-5 stars (say 6+/10).

There are roosters crowing next to my window starting from 2am and keep going until dawn. Hotel is very far from town, eventhough there are complimentary bus to town twice a day but we have to find our way back which cost a lot. Also if you are out of the area person, the small little red truck wil jack up the price really badly. The water drain is not working well, water was up to the ankle before i finish showering. i spend time figure out how the hot-cold water work, it was confusing. I do not khow can this hotel get 4 star, I will only give only 1 or none.

There is a farm aside the place with roosters making noise in the middle of the night, I spent 3 nights without sleeping. Quiet, cozy place out of town

The hotel is located outside the inner city, at the river. It has a nice garden and dining area along the river bank, where also breakfast is served.
The rooms are not new but cozy, clean, well-maintained and equipped with all necessities. There's a large terrace very inviting to lie down and relax with a drink.
The pool is very well-maintained, with crystal clear water.
A drawback for some may be the fact that the hotel is a bit difficult to come and go without personal transportation.
Also, the staff are new since the hotel has just changed name and ownership. They are trying their best but you can feel they are not well accustomed to the property and each other yet. Overall, good value for money and we may be back next time we're in Chiang Mai.

Nice place but a bit out of the way.

The rooms are large and comfortable. Nice balcony and good hot water. The bed is a bit firm but overall very nice place. not as popular as it should be so the bar isn't open by the river and the pool is rather cold but so nice to look onto the river. Just stop at a store and get your own drinks and enjoy the river in the evening. Very peaceful.

Very noisy hotel ..... be aware.

The room that we booked was a family room. We have been allocated to a room which is right next to the road and it was Extremely noisy all day and all night. Asked for a room change but was informed all family rooms are full so end up staying in this noisy room for 4 nights.

Pool was completely shut for renovation and we were not informed by the hotel or hotel.com. Will not return to this hotel.

A Pool, a Pond, and a River

We had a nice pondview and we got massages in our room. Bathrooms and dining areas are usually not air conditioned in Thailand it seemed and this hotel was no exception. The breakfast buffet and room service were good. The infinity pool was nice facing the Ping River. There was a short, but extremely windy storm that cut the power off for a couple of hours. The staff was nice and accommodating.

Excellent, restful boutique hotel

We loved it here! Such a lovely hotel, away from the bustle of Chiang Mai, but close enough to get to the city (150 Baht Tuk Tuk ride) easily. Gorgeous landscaping with a pool overlooking the river. Excellent, friendly staff. Tastefully decorated rooms. The beds were really hard, but we had the best sleeps here of our whole trip. Great value for money!

Traveling alone and this was such a gem to stay at. I'm going to bring my girlfriend here next trip because it's such a beautiful setting. Staff are wonderful.

Good place to stay for peace and quiet

It was a pleasant stay. Far away from the city. At least a 15 min drive. Which costs 250-350 baht every trip. Traffic sometimes caused the trip to go up to 30 min.

The hotel only offers two times for a shuttle 1030 am and 600 pm. So if you are not going during these times , expect to pay. Also. There are no taxis or Tuk tuks nearby. So expect to pay extra to the hotel to get around on your own terms.

I rented a motorcycle. It worked fine for me. Free parking for the motorcycle. Not sure if they have free car parking.

Also, expect some mosquitos. Although not too bad, I didn't get bit, I saw at least 3 in the room. The doors were left open, presumably to air the place out, but that also lets the bugs in.

I would probably give it a 3.5 stars. The bedding was pretty nice, just could be cleaner and could have better shuttle service considering how far it is from the city.

Poor service lets this lovely place down.

Lovely hotel in a lovely setting by the river. Lady on excursion desk (Kee) was exceptional, but apart from her the service was poor and the hotel had a general disinterest in customer service and made little effort whatsoever. Sort out the service and they are on to a winner.

Beautiful hotel. Great value. Loved it.

Really had a nice time here. Can't think of anything negative to say. It was beautiful, clean, right on the river. Great wifi. Beautiful place to eat and drink (they put tables right out overlooking to river). I didn't eat there, so not sure about the food. The rooms were excellent, service was excellent, blah blah blah. Loved this place. There's nothing immediately around, which means it's very quiet, but if you turn right out of the hotel, there is a lively market with tons of great food. It strikes me as a very authentically \"Thai\" place, and after one night in the city, I spent my nights around the hotel and at the market.

Highly recommend.

Breakfast was standard but filled the hole,
Pool was quite cold most of the Time because of shading , but still nice .
Free bike rental but we got a taxi to scooter rental as its a bit of a bike into town.
Bed was quite noisey but ok for sleep

Lanna mantra was beautiful- great pool, little restaurant (little on the higher priced side- but delicious) hotel staff was very friendly & accomadating.. Little far from in town activities but they have a taxi service on property that gets you to & from places easily! Enjoyed my 5 night stay!! :)

Very well maintained property..

Pros: Our room was large with a lovely balcony, which was very peasant to us. It was clean and everything in it worked smoothly. It is a very pleasant location and the property is well maintained. Staff are pleasant and helpful. It is just off the flight path for aircraft, as someone else had mentioned..but we did not find it bothersome. The air is nice and fresh here unlike in the city where you find a lot of exhaust fumes.
Cons: a little far our if you are wanting to go into the city, thereis a ride twice daily in. Smoking home cost 300 baht. Not very much to choose from as far as restaurants in the immediate area but the hotel food was adequate.

Great little hotel/resort.

Just an overnight get away with my wife. Everything was great. The only thing I don't recommend is the Nescafe espresso machine. It is very sour coffee. But the breakfast is fantastic. We had a room right next to the pool overlooking the river, and at night it was wonderful to just sit out on the balcony of the room and relax. Sadly we didn't get to try the in room massages, but we would definitely stay here again.

Relaxing, Secluded Hotel

Nice hotel if you are looking for a quiet place to get away, listen to your music and read. A taxi is needed to go anywhere. Rooms older but large and comfortable with huge balconies for lounging around. Breakfast was adequate. Meals at the restaurant below average.

Quiet oasis outside of city

Wonderful hotel. Clean rooms and overall well maintained facility. Staff was friendly and helpful. Just outside city but hotel does provide shuttle to city twice a day. They will also assist in obtaining a ride to city for a reasonable fixed rate all other times. I enjoyed a delicious meal sitting by the river several evenings, as well as, lounging at the pool after visiting the city or participating in an outdoor adventure. Would most definetly recommend!!

Great potential, a little disappointing

Liked the hotel for its ambience, resort like. The variety of trees you have makes it really appealing . Friendly Staff , but looked like lack of experience and an understanding of the customers needs .As we arrived early , we asked if we could do an early check in . Request denied . I told them I can check into another hotel and come back later in the day , as we were really tired and needed sleep . They offered a room immediately . Happy that they offered us the early check in , but there was no need to deny it earlier. I would have paid an early check in charge , like we did in Pattaya . We realized the hotel was not full and there were plenty of rooms available . Breakfast is 250 baht if not included in booking . Very very few choices with breakfast, the least I have seen in the whole of Thailand . Orange juice was really good though .
Also , you can hear everything that happens outside your room . So , If you want to relax in the room during the day , forget about it. Not walkable to any of the prominent places . We were aware of it earlier, hence booked a scooter with the help of the hotel staff. Paid 250 baht a day , which we felt was quite expensive when compared with the 150 we paid in Pattaya. Had to replace the motorbike twice, as the breaks were not working on the first one , speedometer and broken rear view mirrors on the second one . Not impressed with this S.K motor rentals.
We tried our best to love this beautiful hotel , but a tad disappointed .

Brillant hotel! Staff are amazing!

We stayed at the Lanna Mantra for 6 nights. The staff are so welcoming and made us feel at home straight away, great food, excellent service. Short diatance to the city but the hotel provide a free shuttle service twice a day. Reception very helpful. Would recomend to anyone, families, young couples or friends.

Lovely place & people.

I loved this hotel. Boutique type hotel with lovely grounds, a great pool & good restaurant. Staff was fabulous. A little off the beaten path which I liked but might not appeal to everyone.
If I have a suggestion, they can do much better with the breakfast buffet which was mundane & very \"American\". In 6 days it did not vary.
All in all I would come back.

too far out and food a big disapointment

We discovered when we arrived that the hotel is too far out of the city centre. This wouldnt have mattered if the facilities were good. However, after traveling for ten hours and arriving at 4pm, we thought we would order food from room service and just stay in our room that night. How very disappointing to find that there was no restaurant and nobody to cook! So we had to dump our bags and go out. Because the hotel is so far out you have to catch a tuk tuk into town to find any decent food. The hotel provides a shuttle service into town twice a day at 10.30 and 6.30, but nothing returning. so you have to haggle with tuk tuk drivers to return. The hotel said it would be easy, but we found that the drivers were reluctant to take us back as it was too far and they didnt want to lose any other custom while taking us. They would take us, but haggled for a higher fee. The room didnt have a safe. The beds were large, but were like to single concrete slabs pushed together - very very hard. Break fast was pretty dismal. Only one day did we have a 'buffet breakfast', but it was stone cold by 7am in the morning. No hot food. On the other days we were requested to order, 'a la carte', which was another way of saying, there were too few people in the hotel to do a buffet. A la carte, was just the same as the buffet though - no further choices. The staff were all uni students, excet a couple of older ladies doing the breakfast. They were friendly, but on one had sufficient English.

Very enjoyable stay staff friendly and helpful

Quiet except for departing aircraft flying over head but that is the case for most of Chiang Mai due to the airport being so close to the city. Very nice location but out of town so a taxi ride back to hotel is more expensive but free shuttle twice a day into city helps. Limited eating places within walking distance. Nice swimming pool and outlook. Recommend river view rooms.

WOW place to stay.

This smallish hotel is an amazing place. Situated beside the river, with a lovely pool. You eat meals beside the river and watch small boats going by.
It is a magical hideaway where you feel you could stay for months!
The staff were lovely. Free shuttle bus into the centre of Chiang mai (you need to get your own on the way back). Not much to see in the immediate neighbourhood, but who would want to leave the hotel?

Beautiful hotel - dirt cheap

This hotel is beautiful - from the lanterns to the pictures on the walls to the landscaping and the architecture. I couldn't believe how pretty it was and my room was spacious and clean and nicely decorated, with a cute little balcony looking out over the pond. The pool in the back (which I did not have time to use, sadly) was so nice and the whole place just had a really nice atmosphere to it. On top of that, it was only $50/night - can't beat that!

Simply a great place to stay.

Along the river. Quiet with beautiful landscaping and ponds. Well worth upgrading to the best room for better view and closer to the river.
Breakfast the same each day, but several choices make this acceptable
If you want a real wash cloth, bring your own. As in many parts of the world outside North America they are not readily available.
We would certainly go back here without hesitation. A great experience.

Nice hotel off the beaten path

This was a very simple, beautiful hotel about 15 minutes outside of the dirty, loud city. However, because of that it is hard to get transportation. Most taxi drivers haven't even heard of it. Expect to pay about 400 baht for each ride either to or from this hotel. The room was nice and big with a huge bed and there were plenty of supplies. The staff is helpful and the restaurant is super cheap for really good food. I got a delicious, full plate of pad thai for the equivalent of about $3 usd. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you're not looking for anything super fancy (which is hard to find in Chiang Mai anyway).

Great quiet location

We really liked staying here during our 2 week vacation in Chiang Mai. It was our first visit to Thailand and we chose this hotel based on the reviews. We paid for the best rooms which were on the 2nd floor facing the river. The upgrade was really worth it. Nothing about the hotel surprised us, everything was as it was advertised. Our room had a tub, shower, mini fridge, hot water heater, hair dryer, private balcony (which was awesome), and it was spacious.

Everybody was nice and they spoke English enough to understand our needs. We ordered room service 3 or 4 times and they were prompt in getting it to us. The food prices are very cheap compared with the U.S. You could have a huge meal delivered to your room for about 300 baht ($9 US). The food was good, but it's hit or miss depending on your tastes. I ordered the stir fried vegetables without the rice (you get more veggies that way).

Our room had a few ants in it, but no more than homes in the US. We probably killed about a dozen or so. There was also a gecko (or salamander?) on the ceiling that came and went. He didn't bother us. I saw one in the bathroom once.

One important thing to note about the transportation: You CANNOT easily just \"take a tuk tuk into town\" from this hotel because the tuk tuks and songtails (red cabs) do not go by this hotel since it's outside the main city (5-10 minute drive), so you have to get the main desk to call a songtail for you which costs 150 baht ($4.50) one way only.

Having got used to Thai hospitality, this hotel was disappointing. No welcome on arrival at 6pm and overall very poor service. Hotel is in a lovely setting but needs renovation. Staff were not in uniform and generally sullen. Breakfast mediocre with terrible coffee. We ate at the restaurant the first night - a big mistake. Bed was good and shower worked but we were provided with only a tiny piece of soap. The hotel is also quite a way from the center of town although hotel did provide shuttle at set times. The hotel may have potential with renovation and new management but not worth the money we paid.

Excellent, quiet hotel.

This is a great hotel. I had a room overlooking the pool and the river. Wonderful view. Service was excellent. I bit of a way from town, but very quiet. Free shuttle twice daily, so no problem. I will stay again.
