Honeymoon done right by Zensala

This was an absolutely amazing find. Tucked away in a very quiet part of Chiang Mai, this very private and intimate hotel did everything possible to make sure we had a great time.

The café that was attached to the hotel that provided room service was incredible, well priced, and provided many flavors to choose from.

Bottled water was complementary.

Staff was super kind and helpful with anything we needed.

Their breakfast menu and what you got for ฿250 was enough to take you through the entire first part of the day without eating again.

The pool area was beautiful, and the junior suite was very spacious!

Very relaxing and 10 out of 10 would definitely recommend to anyone trying to disconnect while enjoying great amenities and luxury.

Very nice hotel. Highly recommend the lift suite. Direct pool access from your power level. Like a private pool. Breakfast was amazing as was the service. We had 2 pizzas on different nights and both were great.

Only complaint, bed was like wood. Very difficult to get a good night's sleep.

Both rooms we took on the 1st floor were clean, pleasant, beds comfortable, towels clean and fresh. We requested twin beds but they didn't have them. There was ample parking space.

Loved the full size bottles of coconutty shampoo n bath gel provided that made the bathroom that bit more lux.

Staff at reception was warm and welcoming, and spoke English which made communicating convenient in comparison to some other hotels.

A minor point that would make the stay even better would be 2 pillows instead of 1 per person. We requested extras and got them the following night.

Our Rm 6 has a window in the toilet that opens out onto another room's balcony. It made us feel a little uncomfortable to think that someone there could peer into our toilet if he wanted to.

All in all, we had a very lovely stay and miss the sight of that flowing brown river.

Four days in town

If you are looking for a very modernlow profile boutique hotel on the river in town this is it. It does not have a gym, the pool is small, but if you are looking to relax and take in the beauty of the river, this is it. With the exception of the busy street outside, once you pass in to the other side, you will feel as if you have been transported 50 miles outside Chiang Mai. Parking is not great, but catching an Uber is easy to get and cheap. Breakfast is very good with many options. Staff are very friendly.

Quiet and serene right on the bank of the river.

Excellent food. Particularly fond of orange mustard tossed salad dressing. Khun Eem and Khun Jenny at the front desk / restaurant should be on the poster for The Land of a Thousand Smiles. they both made our experience at the Zensala a memorable one.

Take a Thai written card of the hotel as most taxi drivers don't know the area. Expect to spend 200 baht to get downtown Chiangmai

The hotel was stylish - but where were the guests?

The hotel was fine except we thought it was adjacent to the city - the taxi from the airport charged extra, as did a tour company which charged an additional 300 baht because we were out of the city limit, but still on the way to their tour.
There were very few people staying at the hotel which made it slightly uncomfortable. Being two of only four at breakfast was surprising.
Also the evening when we arrived on a hot day at about 6pm, we were told the pool couldn't be used for two hours because it had just been chlorinated! The next day we got back to the hotel at around six again and this time were told they were about to spray for mosquitos and we couldn't use the pool for an hour! Who would do these routine maintenance activities when guests are most likely to want to use the pool after a day out sightseeing?!

Very Disappointing Stay

Myself and my partner stayed here for 2 nights following a stay in Bangkok and Chiang Rai.
This accommodation is never a 4 star. Maybe we were spoilt as we had just stayed in the Sheraton in Bangkok (4 star) and the Le Meridien in Chang Rai (5 star), this hotel just can not compare.
I booked a riverfront suite, this was never a 'suite', the only difference above a standard room was a sofa that you could not sit on and two plates with cutlery ?!?!?
There was not enough space to put your clothes away and we just ended up living out of our cases.
The Jacuzzi bath did not work and we had to call reception (the guy did come very quickly) who got under the bath and got it working. We couldn't then switch it off until my partner got under the bath and manage to sort it.
The location is stated as 1.8Km away from the city centre/night bazaar, no chance, you could not walk it, it was more than double that and the hotel location is in the middle of nowhere.
When asked about getting a taxi into the town, reception advised us to download Uber, which proved ok except for some cancellations because the drivers said it was too far away to come and get us in the traffic.
I should have checked before I booked, but this 4 star hotel does not have a bar !!!!
Pool is tiny and as some rooms have direct access to it, it was a bit disconcerting having to swim in front of other apartments bedrooms, as the pool is only about 3ft wide.
Breakfast was great though.
Bitterly disappointing.

Miserable rooms far far away from the city.

Wont call it out a resort. Definitely not amongst the 4 or 5-star. At best a 3-star boutique hotel. Property showing signs of ageing. Room quality were definitely not upto the mark and fell miserably short of what I expected. Great breakfast though in the mornings. Far off from the happening place in the city. Property next only to the road - so cannot have a peaceful sleep too as you can hear vehicular movement all through the night. The property is located next to the river which gives it a slight resort like feel - though nothing much, I would say.

excellent service, inconvenient location

very modern and nicely designed hotel. Service is superb especially GM Katie at front desk couldn't be more helpful and friendly. breakfast is one of the best breakfast I ever had. We did have two issues with the hotel. One is the ants in the room. They were everywhere and went into our clothes, toothbrushes, and suitcases. The hotel tried to fix it but they were there for the whole 3 days we were staying there. Even when I got home I still saw ants crawling over my suitcase. It's really bad. The second one is the location. It's very far from city center (rush hour 30 mins cab ride, cost is low about 8 dollars each way but it adds up if you want to continue go back and forth). the place is great for people who have cars and want to stay away from city center and just go surrounding parks etc as the facility itself is beautiful. but for us it's very difficult as we wanted to go to city center every day to eat and shop, etc. There is nothing around the hotel to eat or see.

Nice hotel with hospitallity service from staff.

I received the welcome drink once walk-in to the counter and staff was giving the good hospitality to us that I was really appreciated. The room is quite big and including with jaguzzi that i spend my time in it in the early morning, also the swimming pool with Ping river scenario. I will come to stay here again.

This is my 2nd stay at Zensala. Their location is one of the huge advantage, only about 10-15 mins drive to the old city. Even their location is closed to the old city, they locate just outside of the crowd area and sit besides the ping river, therefore, you can still enjoy a quiet and relax environment. The breakfast was great too. If you want a convenience location to the old city, this is a definite choice.

Great place to chill for a relaxing holiday!
Staff was very nice, smiles always on their faces, receptionist and Katie speaks good english, you won't feel troublesome communicating with them.
Public pool is small but totally enough since no ones swimming at all!
Having the all you can it breakfast is a must! Foods are really good.

However, the resort is a bit off town, you will be expecting around 150-250baht if you wanna travel back to thte resort from the old city through tuk tuk. 10-15mins.

A beautiful setting right on the Ping river. The room was extremely comfortable and well kept. When we arrived we were greeted by a couple friendly staff members who quickly took care of our check in and served up a fresh fruit drink. The pool was awsome as being on the bottom floor we could literally step out our back door into the pool which although not large certainly fit the settings. The only negative I have to say is the people above us were moving their chairs around a bit and the sound resonated down quite clearly. Overall though we had a wonderful stay.

Peaceful stay with no Fuss

Great stay with great hospitality at Zensala.

Location, it's outside the old city, however it's not that much a problem for me since I only make around a trip a day either by the red-bus (200 THB) or tuk-tuk (150 THB) from the city. The higher cost for transport is made-up with the serene environment of the hotel :) Suggestion is to take the free shuttle to the old city at 11 am daily.

Food, breakfast is excellent, nice number of options and freshly made. No excessive oil especially for the Thai omelette which make me feel that the food is healthily prepared. We took dinner at the hotel by the river. Mosquito is aplenty and expected, but repellent is provided. The seafood pizza is a must try, paired with beer while relaxing in the peacefulness of the slow flowing river.

Room, I am a sucker for nice modern design, and this hotel fit my requirement to a tee. We had the suite on the top-most level, it has a study room with a day bed, and windows on both sides. The front facing the river and the rear facing the mountains. At night, this is the perfect spot to chill. Me and my partner would seat there for hours just \"blanking\" at the river and chit-chatting while sipping wine :)

Hospitality, Great! Arrived and the hotel manager Katie attended to us with a brief tour. We were greeted by our name throughout our stay and it heighten our experience with the personal touch.

This is the Hotel to stay if you want to find Peace away from the Buzz with no Fuzz.

Nice and quiet hotel

Me and my wife (we are Thais) stayed at the Villa for 2 nights. This hotel is very nice and quiet, a perfect getaway for someone who wants to be with nature but not too far from all the actions and conveniences. It's about 10 min short drive to where everything is in the center of Chian Mai, it's better though to have your own car or else it'll be a little bit of a hassle to get in and out. For me, everything about this hotel is great except the size of the room in the villa. It is a bit small considering it is a villa. And if you don't want to experience going to toilet and taking a shower in the open space with, do not book the villa.

I would most likely recommend this hotel to friends and family, so overall it was a good quick getaway from Bangkok and I had a nice time in one of my favorite city in Thailand.

Perfect place to stay for peace and quiet. Resort states they have a free shuttle service which runs you into town - however it only goes once a day at 11am. Not very convenient therefore we were not able to take advantage of this service. Had some issues with the hot water during our stay also but as it was pretty warm at the time it wasn't a major issue.

Nice place but missing things for having a remote

Nice place along the river, the hotel plays the \"zen card\" but a few things are although missing:
- a bit far away from the center, you'll need a cab, which may take 10 to 20 minutes to arrive later in the evening.
- you can order food (didn't try) but you can't have cocktails and chill out on the terrace for the evening (not without some warm clothes in December) and there will be no staff usually past 10pm
- my wife didn't have any hot water while showering since the hotel experienced problems with water alimentation.
Since the hotel isn't \"convenient\" just to have a walk whenever you feel like hotels in the center, they should more focus on providing things than would make you not to want the place even for an hour (for example have yoga class in the morning, more furnished restaurant/cocktails menu, spa/massage, etc.).

Excellent Services, But A Bit Noisy

All the staff was excellent and always gave us a little smile. They were helpful to provide support in arranging transfer services and travel advices. The breakfast offered a wide variety of egg, toast, tea, coffee, sausage and Thai food. All were absolutely delicious. Although Chiang Mai is a bit cold in December especially in the morning (around 11-14°C), I enjoyed the breakfasts at outdoor facing the Mae Ping River.

I would suggest the resort to install soundproof doors for all the rooms. All the rooms are just next to the road, the noise from the outside traffic affected my sleep so much. Even the room provided me ear plugs, but it was not a comfortable choice.

I was disappointed with the small pool. I thought I could spend some on my pool access room, finally I haven’t gone into water.

The resort provides free shuttle services to Tha Phae Gate at 11:00am every day which was convenient and saved me 200 bahts taxi fee per trip.

Relaxing Short Stay In Zensala Hotel

Its not my first time visiting Thailand but its my first visit to Chiang Mai. I have booked online to Zensala having view the positive reviews from other travellers. It was indeed a pleasant and relaxing stay in the hotel. The staff are polite and helpful. The customized breakfast was great. I enjoyed much of its serenity. You can take a taxi to town area (night market), about 20 mins by car. It is a simple and clean hotel with bedrooms facing the Ping River.

Selve hotellet er super fint, og har en skøn grøn have. Hotellet ligger dog lige ud til en vej, og isoleringen er ikke så god, så meget af lyden går igennem. Hotellet ligger ca. 10-15 minutters kørsel fra centrum af Chaing Mai, og der går ikke noget offentlig transport. Det koster ca. 100 bath med en grab.

Our stay was good but improvement welcomed. We were happy with our stay. However, 1) the pool is very cold. 2) there is pork in every option in the breakfast making it difficult for Muslim travelers, vegetarians or vegans to enjoy a good breakfast. Everyday we ate the same - egg on bread.
Besides this staff is super nice! The hotel itself is beautiful and quite.

純粹係一間度假休閒嘅酒店,整體燈光不夠亮,出行不方便,如果純粹住在裏面三天就會覺得比較悶,房內冷氣風口對正床位,所以覺得非常冷,最重要一點時我預訂的時候我看到宣傳是有免費接駁車到市區的,但是去到就說沒有,要自己自費叫車或者他也可以幫你叫車的,這樣就令我感覺不舒服了.

從踏入酒店的第一步，便感受到職員的笑容，客房空間足夠，清潔，物品齊全，窗外便是一片綠色草地，再堂出去便是河邊，好清淨的環境，早餐豐富及多種選擇，我特意推介，大家一定要試一試這裡的午餐或晚餐，因從食材去到客人枱面，都睇得出，食得出，厨師的用心，這裡每日有兩班車單向去舊城區，算是方便，總結以CP值來計算，若想放空，休息，充電，這裡是一個很好的選擇，我與太太正計劃下個行程，當然都會來這裡兩三天呢！
