The water was only ever lukewarm, which would be a problem in colder weather, and I've never stayed in a hotel where they don't provide anything to drink from!

The breakfast (at a local cafe) was nice - albeit they didn't open on Saturday, with no reason given, which was bizarre.

The room was a little smaller than expected, I think the listing could do with adding some room specific photos. But everything we needed was there, it is a great location, most of Rome is within a 20-30 minute walk. Lots of very good restaurants all around, and definitely less touristy than the other side of the River

Loved our stay would go back tomorrow if I could. The staff texted me with friendly directions the morning of our check in and responded to my questions quickly and kindly. The property is walkable to everything we wanted to see. The building/room were beautiful and serene. The breakfast is not to be missed-truly. I have rarely enjoyed a stay anywhere so much.

The property's location is excellent! 10 mins from Lepanto metro, 12-15 mins walking to Trevi Fountain, Spanish steps or Piazza Navona (our fav), 21 mins walking to the Vatican City.

The only negative comment would be the sound proofing. Apart from that, we will certainly consider this place again.

A lovely guesthouse in Rome. Details on how to enter the mainly unstaffed guesthouse were communicated clearly before we arrived. Breakfast that was served at the restaurant across the road was excellent, even though not clearly explained. In a good location easy walking distance to Vatican city and on a good bus route. The city tax had to be paid in cash on checkout and this is the only time we encountered a staff member.

The hotel is located in a central area with close walking distance to many of the major attractions. The rooms are pretty basic but very comfortable and clean. Offers a basic breakfast (coffee and pastry) at a diner across the street. Make sure to WhatsApp the property prior to check-in for details.

A lovely little spot to stay while in Rome. Five minute walk to the SitBus Vaticano stop (shuttle to/from airport), easy walk to Vatican and straight stretch up to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain shopping and dining. The owner was always available on WhatsApp for any questions, speaks English which is a plus. You can travel light or not worry if you have kids because there is a cute laundry station next door. Super convenient!

Fantastic stay at the guesthouse - Carlo could not have been more helpful, getting in touch before and during the stay to ensure everything went smoothly. The breakfast in the cafe over the road was fine - though more options might be an idea for the future - but it all worked for me ! I googled the cafe which states that it’s ‘permanently closed’ which isn’t true !! Very easy to walk everywhere … little more than 15 mins from pretty much everything ! Would definitely recommend and stay again …

just 3 points
1) radiator under window did not work as designed. it was reported
2) the shower was hard to balance and on occasions was either too hot or just no heating at all ie; cold water.
3) As a suggestion - a kettle for a cup of tea or coffee etc in the room would be a welcome addition.

Other than that, we loved the building, the old lift, the room and hotel in terms of design, style and decor etc.

I stayed at The Borromeo Roma as a solo traveller and was allocated ‘Room 2’. The hotel location is very good.
I did not see any staff throughout my stay but found my room to be adequate, traditional, clean and comfortable.
I was sent text messages with details of how to access the building/key etc and breakfast was at a cafe opposite.
I would recommend this guest house for its location, value cleanliness and quirky Italian vibe.

When we arrived here the room was a mess. There was garbage left from the previous patrons and the shower had black mold all over it. Woke up in the middle of the night to find a disgusting centipede on a towel in the washroom, guess that's what happens when the place is unclean and not taken care of.

We stayed at in a room that had a full bed and two single beds in a loft. The bed linens were clean and the towels were replaced daily. The view was to a small window courtyard, so not really a view. The AC was below average compared to our Florida AC but that was expected. Carlo greeted us and checked us in upon arrival. He was very friendly and accommodating. The room was overall as expected, however, the shower initially did not drain well and we had to request Carlo to stop in and correct it. Overall it was relatively centrally located, on the Vatican side of the river.

The property was very clean and it was easy to check in. It was easily walkable to the Vatican. However that's where the good ends.... I had a broken shower head in my room and the water that did trickle out was barely passable as warm. I notified the front desk staff immediately and was promised an immediate solution but was actually not given anything, no accommodations, no movements to another room, in fact the hotel never contacted me in anyway to apologize or offer me any solution to the situation . In all actuality I never saw someone at the front desk for the remainder of my trip. So while the place is nice and is in a good location in relation to the Vatican I would not recommend staying here and especially in room 2 with the broken shower

We enjoyed our visit to Borromeo Roma. There were great check-n instructions for us on the door when we arrived early. Room was beautiful and clean - only issue for us was a bed that was a little short for me (I'm 6'2\") with a foot board (so no good opportunity to hand my big feet off the bed. Breakfast was delicious but light (continental).

Overall - a very good stay. Place is loaded with character.

A beautiful property located very close to Vatican City and local buses that takes you straight to all the famous site seeing places. The airport bus stop is only a 5 min walk to the the property. Morning breakfast was provided with our stay So no need to figured out where to go all the time. Definitely recommend.

Highly recommend!

It has been a great experience staying with the guesthouse. The room is very cozy as a traditional Italian apartment with high quality hotel supplies. Carlo is super nice and thoughtful. Besides all the good accommodations, the location of the room is another highlight. It is closed to all major attractions, Colosseumz, Vatican museum, all major piazzas and so on, within 5 to 40 minutes walk. Great place to stay in Roma!

Best guesthouse and location for family vacations!

Great location and access to all the historical sites, restaurants, parks, buses, trams, and taxis. Carlo handles the guesthouse and does an outstanding job of taking care of your requests and needs. The rooms are very clean, comfortable and are nicely decorated. We rented 3 rooms and all 6 of us were very pleased with our rooms and the breakfasts provided. We definitely will be back again. We loved it.

We loved this place! With the comfort and location we thought we really got a good deal. We didn't expect breakfast so that was a nice extra. The building is a little old, but we thought that was fun. We really enjoyed watching the front door the the building open up when we arrived. Although the property is aging, the staff really does their best to take care of the maintenance. We also loved the espresso machine and definitely took advantage of that. The whole staff really tried hard to make sure we were happy. If you want 4-5 stars then I might not recommend for you, but I definitely recommend to those on a budget or who are just looking to enjoy Rome.

Family of four from Los Angeles, kids 8 & 13. We stayed in room # 3 which has a little loft that the kids liked a lot. Furniture and general feel is old school, but charming. Beds were comfortable with better mattresses in the loft surprisingly. #3 has an effective, if slightly noisy a/c. Europe Type C adapters work, outlets are loose. We liked heavy wood interior shutters for the windows and cool old furniture with wood inlay. About one mile walk to St. Peter's square, less to the castle and Tiber river, and easy access to bus tour. There's a little market, cafes and restaurants right around the corner. The door from the street into the hotel building opens automatically shortly after entering the code. Listen for audible confirmation of each button pressed. The elevator is way old school, but it works. The manager/owner, Carlo, is a cool guy who sends entry instructions via text which helps. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay!

What a find! Stunning and reasonably priced guest house, decor exactly as an Italian hotel should be. Statues and artwork a great touch. Very clean, comfortable room/bed. Daily room service. We just returned from 3 nights in Rome staying at Borremeo Guesthouse. Excellent location, great service, beautiful property and terrific value for money. Would definitely stay again without a moments hesitation. Only thing I would say, although minor is shower is Luke warm at best and it would be nice to have tea and coffee making facilities in the room to enjoy a well earned cuppa after a day of sight seeing!

Clean Comfortable and Well Located

This is a well located guesthouse for travellers on a budget. It's clean and comfortable, the beds are good, and we got a good night's sleep.

The rooms do vary in size. We got a rather small room, but we noticed that some of the other rooms are much bigger. If you get a small room then storage of luggage and clothing can be an issue.

Overall the condition of the room was good, but not perfect. For example, we had a broken coat hanger (there were only 4 coat hangers, which was not enough), a horrendously squeaky wardrobe door, which we found amusing, and a toilet seat that had been stuck back together (why not replace it, when they are not expensive?)

On the first night we did not have any hand soap or shower gel, but, we think the maid simply forgot and, when we mentioned it, they were provided straight away.

The breakfast is basic, consisting of pastries, fresh fruit, yoghurt, and packets of long life toast, together with tea and coffee and fresh juice.

The addition of cereals and fresh milk, together with some fresh bread and a toaster, would make the breakfast offering much better.

As a clean and comfortable base at an affordable price from which to explore Rome this guesthouse fits the bill.

A first class guesthouse

This place is a gem. A very friendly 5 bedroom guesthouse, where you are made to feel very welcome. The bedrooms are individual, spacious and comfortable. The breakfast is pastries, yoghurt and fruit and set us up for the day. It is within an easy walk to the Vatican and many other popular areas of Rome. There are a a number of bars and restaurants close by. We will be back!

Great small guesthouse with wonderful staff. We stayed in the family room with a loft - it was a great option for our family of four, but the loft was on the shorter side (our 12 and 14 year olds couldn't stand up straight in it) so it might be better for slightly younger kids. Great neighborhood, very convenient location for public transit and very easy walk to the Vatican past Castel Sant'Angelo.

My family and I had an amazing stay at Guesthouse Borromeo Roma. Carlo is the kindest, friendliest, and most hospitable host who ensured that we were comfortable, happy, and well taken care of for the duration of our stay. The guesthouse is centrally-located and is close to all major attractions in Rome. It is also within walking distance to restaurants, ATMs, gelaterias, and shopping. There is a bus stop just at the corner of the street if walking isn't your preferred way of exploring the city. The guesthouse is full of character and warmth. Thank you, Carlo! Great location close to the Vatican city and bus stops for main bus tour stops.
Easy walking distance to Spanish steps and Trevi fountain (about 20 minutes each). Accommodation met our needs. Clean and comfortable room. Nice continental breakfast. Staff were attentive and helpful. Willing to help with our requests to print out tickets and store luggage on departure. Also contacted me directly ahead of our visit and helped with my travel queries. I would certainly stay here again! Fantastic stay in Rome. A beautiful city with something for everyone. A surprise around every street corner! Book your attraction tickets in advance and online to gain savings and to beat queues. Take a bus tour to help get your bearings. A great city to walk, but be careful on the pedestrian crossings.

Great hotel to use as a base for a city break.

To do the negatives first, the Wi-fi wasn’t working properly, a bulb was out in our bathroom and the bed had a slight dip in it. That’s literally it.

Positives, perfect location, polite and knowledgeable staff, great decor, comfortable and clean room. The breakfast pastries were limited but lovely, and they did cater for gluten free.

Espresso machine is also a saviour for a pre dinner boost!

Overall, it would be hard to find a better hotel for a city break to Rome and we would definitely go back

We absolutely loved our stay at the Guesthouse Borromeo. Our train was delayed getting into Rome, and then we waited over an hour for our bus to take us to Piazza Cavour. It turns out Carlo, a manager at the guesthouse, was waiting for us probably close to 3 hours outside of the building, and was there to greet us when we finally arrived at around 9pm. The guesthouse itself is gorgeous, with fancy woodwork and interesting art pieces and artifacts all around. My wife and I both felt it was pretty luxurious without the luxurious price. The surrounding area (Piazza Cavour) is safe, quiet, and clean, with some fancy dining options within a short walking distance. Piazza Navona is around a 10-15 minute walk, and we couldn't have asked for a better Rome experience then we had here at Guesthouse Borromeo. Thank you Carlo for your generous service! I would definitely stay here again.

A charming, individual and friendly guesthouse in a great location where the proprietor tries hard to please.
What we liked:
Characterful and filled with antiques, quiet safe location near the Vatican, just a few minutes' walk to lively squares across the river.
Breakfast good with delicious pastries and coffee. Comfortable large bed and attractive surroundings. Carlo also gave us some recommendations for eating out.
Close to airport bus stop.
What could have been improved:
The hot water could have been hotter.
The toilet seat was loose - although someone was called out to remedy he failed to arrive.
TV controls impossible to fathom.

The hotel is in the perfect location close enough to walk to all the sites of Rome and the Vatican, the area feels very safe even at night and is close to lots of restaurants. The only negative was the mattress in our room was a bit on the hard side for our tastes but others may disagree. The beds on the mezzanine floor had limited headroom but perfect for smaller children (under 10) older children may bump their heads.

Nice guest house, close to the Vatican City

Great location. Myself and my girlfriend are a young couple, so we wanted to walk to see all the sights which was no issue, all within I would say 2 miles of this guest house, and the receptionist guy was super helpful, I would recommend this hotel. The breakfast was a bit basic, just a crossiant or fruit or yoghurt, but you will plenty during the day to worry about breakfast.

Lovely stay at Borromeo :)

Pros:
- Fantastic customer service - Carlo was very helpful and proactive
- Fresh pastries every day, apples, oranges, pears, fruit juice, coffee and yoghurts
- Fabulous location - you can get the 492 or 70 bus from termini to the end of the road
- Lots of vegan/vegan-friendly restaurants nearby
- Lovely room - very vintage/traditional Roman room - very quaint
- Small hotel
- Clean, beds made every day and fresh towels
- They provided soya milk for us
- They were kind enough to give us a bottle of wine and bunch of flowers to celebrate our anniversary which was a beautiful touch!
- Great location for Vatican, Spanish Steps, Pantheon... Colosseum is further but walkable
- We used the outside window ledge as a fridge to keep beers cool! Not necessarily a pro but a top tip in the colder months ;)

Cons:
- Shower was only luke-warm - very disappointing. We were told that they couldn't fix it as it meant redoing all of the plumbing, so we dealt with chilly showers and in return, they waived the city tax which was much appreciated :)
- The walls were VERY thin - could hear literally everything through the doors and walls
- Breakfast could have been better - even just having a toaster and real bread as opposed to pre-toasted, cold packets of hard tiny toasts. No cereal, very little choice. Good for non-vegans as they could have pastries. We ended up buying some cereal but the hotel were good enough to provide soya milk, bowls & spoons for us to have cereal :)

5 Nights in Rome

The hotel is excellently located for sightseeing in the centre of Rome, within easy walking distance of the centre. The room was lovely, just what we were looking for. The reception attendant was very welcoming, gave us some good recommendations and was on hand whenever we needed anything.

I stayed 4 nights in this hotel, the location was perfect, I am utterly satisfied with the service Carlo and his staff provided, he made sure we were happy and the hotel was extremely clean. Thank you Borromeo Roma for your outstanding hospitality, I will book again if I ever go back to Rome.
