My stay has been excellent. The staff members were friendly, great sea view, and it is very close to everything. Then again, Mondello is not very big. The room is lacking amenities though. For example, there is no hot water kettle in the room. But overall, I think this hotel still gives a good value for money.

I did not like anything about this property. The carpet was dirty, the king size bed was made up of two single beds and it was uncomfortable, the shower was too small, and the toilet paper did not have a place to be hung.
I think you should refund my money.

Perfect location- enormous spacious rooms. Super!

Massive room with fantastic view...well partial fantastic to the tiled roof (needs renovation) partial fantastic to the seaside: beautiful sunrises we could watch!
Service was great- nothing special but just enough to say that this is what you need for perfect stay: not too much not too little interaction just right.
Food- we only had beakfast and after the third day got a bit boring: no greens or much healthy options - not what we had from other 4* hotel breakfast choices but it was plenty and good enough - far from excellent but perfect to start a day with! Needs some update with soft furnishing as well as furniture but all partially done to a minimal effort- I don’t thing any designer consultant participated- yet everything was functional. Superb location- with parking free- what more you want in August in an Italian holiday location !

Hotel is in a perfect location for the beach and local shop/restaurant strip. Also a perfect location for the bus stop to go to the city for very cheap (1.40€ / person).
Service was great at breakfast. A special shootout to Lino, he always welcomed us in the morning and would service us by making eggs and espresso, he is very kind!

It appears the hotel is undergoing a refurbishment. Our room (219) was spacious and had a balcony. They bathroom was large. The Reception and bar area have been refurbished. Breakfast was largely continental but with enough selection for all. The pool and surrounding area is lovely and pretty quiet most of the time probably due to the private beach just a minute's walk away. The staff were polite and very helpful. Overall a lovely two weeks spent at the hotel.

We had a terrible experience the room was falling apart I had to argue to get a better room the bathroom wasn’t even clean there was previous soap bars and shampoo bottles all over the shower we had an ant infestation and guess what they downgraded us to a smaller room and we got charged the same price and we were told the daily rates fluctuate. The downstairs was renovated the upstairs where the rooms were were disgusting!

Restaurant breakfast and evening meal lovely food, atmosphere and quiet / romantic in evening

Rooms just need updating and back of hotel rooms noisy by the main roads. Staff very kind and moved us to front of hotel sea view room when we hardly slept first night due to traffic. Made significant difference so recommend paying bit extra or requesting front of hotel rooms

Mondello Beach Palace - Beach stay

I was a little hesitant to book this hotel, because there were some negative reviews but since we wanted to stay on the beach, this was the best option. I am so glad I booked it! We had a Junior Suite w/a balcony, it was very spacious & clean. The location was perfect for staying in Mondello. Walking distance to restaurants and the piazza in town. The private beach is right across the street. Breakfast was your typical Italian breakfast which was fine -nothing fancy. Facilities were clean, pool was great! The outside of the hotel does need updating but the room and all other facilities were fine for a beach stay. We stayed 3 nights and it was perfect. The staff was very helpful with recommendations. We will definitely be back if we are in the area again.

For an American, this property looks like the type of run down beach hotel you find in Fort Lauderdale. The walls of the rooms look like they have not been painted since the it was built and we were not confident the door actually would hold/lock if someone pushed on it. It was difficult to obtain toilet paper. Prior to booking we asked if the pool would be open, but if was not and in fact, was not even filled. All courtyard access and beach access was locked and you had to walk completely around the building to get to the beach. Twin beds hard as a rock. Would not stay again and recommend you don't either. Lots of good B&B in the area for lot cheaper money.

Great location, awful beds & exterior shabby.

I have never slept in a more uncomfortable bed. Felt like it was just the base with no mattress, and the pillow was only about 3 inches deep. Fantastic location right by the pier & beach but exterior looking unloved & in dire need of a repaint (balconies are all sprinkled with peeling paint from the walls.)
We went in January so am guessing the monosyllabic checking in experience (“Name!”, “Passport”, “your room number is”) was a symptom of low occupancy/staff. Hopefully it also explains why the (absolutely perfect) scrambled egg at breakfast was stone cold. (Perhaps not enough staff to actually switch the Bain-Marie on!!). Can’t failt the chef tho.

Enjoy wonderful views of a rusty veranda and abandoned mini golf course! Bring a book to read while waiting for the hot water to heat up. When is breakfast? How do you access the WiFi? Where is the restaurant? Who knows! The staff certainly won't inform you. I kept telling my husband that this is the place in the movies where you get murdered.

Mondello Palace Hotel, Sicily

Disappointed that although it was warm enough to swim in the sea (thankfully), the outdoor swimming pool was out of use. Taking the nice walk through the front garden and the gate to the beachfront was padlocked and the staff said that for security it would not be opened.
The hotel was in a lovely location at the beach, and the staff were always helpful. The hotel was in places in need of renovation and decoration. The rooms were basically furnished, but had a lovely seaview, and a great beach. Meals were very short of vegetables, the only veg given for my main meal choice for the first five evenings were small cubed roasted potatoes. Meat was often very undercooked which is not to everyones taste. When sending a meal back to ask for further cooking, it returned still pink. Another meal of Salmon with salad contained very little salad leaves and one baby cooked tomato. It would have also been nice to have had ice cream as a desert, but when asking for it, they didn't have any.

The first room was disappointing. Very basic for a 4* hotel. No information in the room, the room was just not very welcoming.
The bathroom smelt of mould sealant and the balcony doors were in good need of a lick of paint and they didn’t really close properly. At the top of the balconies they definitely require a replaster.
The blinds were quite difficult to pull up and down.
There was an adjoining door to the next room, which you couldn’t access but you could hear them in their bathroom.
We asked to be changed to another room and the following day this request was honoured. We ended up in a refurbished room, junior suite I think as it was quite big and had a sofa plus tea making facilities.
The second room felt like we were in a different hotel. It had been freshly decorated with new flooring and the balcony looked safe.
The staff were friendly and accommodating. The rooms were always clean.
The hotel overall needs updating.
I think they are doing this slowly but it does feel a bit like something from the 1970s.
We won’t be returning but enjoyed the stay in Mondello. The area itself is also in need of a lick of paint and some investment but it is charming in its own way.
We enjoyed our stay but even if we were to return to Mondello, we wouldn’t choose this hotel.

The staff were very very rude and not helpful at all, our room was on the road and very loud at night with cars speeding past and playing music all night. We also couldn’t sleep and our air con was broken, when we complained and asked to change rooms they pretended they could not understand English and spoke to us in Italian. We then asked for the manager and said if we wouldn’t change rooms we would leave the hotel to which they changed our room and downgraded us to another room and didn’t even give us any discount of our room. We also ate at the restaurant and they added on extra wine bottles onto our bills so make sure you check your bills when you check out as they charged us for things we did not order. Definitely do not recommend this hotel to anyone!

Hotel doesn’t look as beautiful as the pictures. We’ve been given a tiny room but they decided to move us the day after in a bigger one, after our complaint. Windows were this old that when it rained, the water was coming inside from the bottom.
Concierge unpolite, only one lady has been very professional and nice with us.
Dinner was good and positive note for the reserved beach spot.

Stayed here in June 2018, most pleasing was the pool and surrounding area which was perfectly clean and well maintained.

Staff English wasn't great, but as I don't speak any Italian at all I can't hold that against them too much!

Rooms didn't look like the pictures but I have no complaints as they were comfortable and provided us with everything we needed.

Breakfast buffet was ok, a good selection but we weren't too impressed with the hot items.

Generally a good hotel in a nice location in Mondello with good transport links to Palermo.

Beautiful hotel, amazing friendly staff

A lot of decoration has clearly been completed recently on the hotel, there is a new bar with reasonably priced drinks, the sun loungers round the pool were the comfiest I’ve ever used, the room was clean and well equipped, breakfast was delicious and the staff were beyond helpful. I would definitely recommend Mondello Palace to friends and family as I strongly belive they will have an awesome experience!!

A hotel in transition

The hotel is undergoing renovation which was unfortunate. No pool or gardens as a consequence.It should be ok once works are completed. The food, rooms and restaurant staff were/are most agreeable. The Staff on "the desk" lack any evidence of charm or willingness to engage with hotel guests. There appears to be considerable corporate functions which may explain "the desk's" indifference to hotel guests. Reasonable price but it is obvious why. Half of Palermo will descend on sunny weekends in and around Mondello...chaos and crowds...

No welcome pack in the room, we had to ask how to use the safe and the telephone.

Staff were great and somethings about hotel (eg pool, servicing of room) were really good. Hotel grew on us over the week though it was also very noisy. However when you pay extra for a sea view, yet you can only just see it over anow awful abandoned crazy golf course from a tatty balcony you couldn't really recommend it to others.

Don't book this. We drove thru the area and saw it was not nice but hoped our hotel would be nice. The staff was very helpful but when we got to our room it was old, no updates, paint peeling, dirty floors, weak door locks. We turned and left to find someplace else. We lost our money but saved a vacation.

One big disappointment was that they closed the pool for winter even though it was 28 degrees and the pool was the reason we booked this hotel. Great location.

Booked due to pool and location. Arrived at 4pm sunny afternoon after a long drive. Advised that the pool was closed due to a storm at midday. The pool also gets closed for siesta times, interesting as many guests would like to take time out by the pool. Rooms appear to have been renovated and are clean. It would be a nice hotel for family holiday given beach is across the road. But just not operating as best it could. Staff nice.

The photos are a lot more glamorous than the actual building, which is fairly non descript. Gardens a bit tired looking. But staff was helpful, room was comfortable (with small ocean view). Restaurant had very little atmosphere but the breakfast was quite good. Location was good - right near beach.

Lovely Hotel!

I was very impressed with the grounds, staff and overall appearance. Considering it was a beach hotel, it still had some elegance. The rooms were quite simple but functional. The beach was right outside the grounds and the restaurants were all within walking distance. My entire family had a wonderful experience. I definitely recommend staying at the Mondello Palace.

This hotel did not even come close to meeting the expectations of the description and pictures online. We were supposed to have a king bed, but they just pushed to full size beds together, plus the beds were hard as a rock and uncomfortable. We were booked for 6 nights, but checked out after the first night, and found a much better hotel.

We were there for 3 days and was a good hotel and base to visit other areas around like Palermo and north area of Sicily. Just OK to have dinner and we found difficult to find good restaurants around. Breakfast was good with hot food. Room was good size . Hotel in general was dated but was good for what we needed on our way around Sicily. Also to mention that we arrived early and were nice to gave us a room at the reception.

Needs mosquito nets on bathroom window! Needs handle in bathtub/shower!
Food is not tasty, breakfast juice terrible and powdered scramble eggs.
Room was great, view of ocean - hotel in a large park and then the sandy beach!
But when I asked if the hotel would order me a taxi for 4AM for a ride to the airport, I was told the fare would be about 50 Euros. The ride at 4AM took 15 minutes and the taxi driver wanted 80 Euros. He said ticket from hotel. Well, the hotel didn't tell me I could pay them and get a ticket!
I gave the diver 55 Euros and he cursed me!!!

The hotel stay was great. Service was excellent, the food was ok, but the coctails in the lounge and outside were great. The restaurants in the area were very good, especially one place called Sympathy.Beautiful beaches and lounge chairs provided by the hotel

One of the rooms had an outlook.of a brick wall. Other hotel rooms had a sea view but we were not permitted to change - probably because booked through Expedia

Very Old Hotel In Need of Repairs

This hotel is quite old and it appears as though its amenities have not been updated for a very long time. There was a strange smell in the rooms, and particularly, from near the restroom. Perhaps it was due to a sewage issue. Furthermore, an alarm went off each night in the middle of the night which may have been a fire alarm. This would shut off the air conditioning, which was problematic, given the extreme heat.

Great resort atmosphere.

Excellent facility which was recently renovated and is well maintained. Perfect location right across from the beach with private beach access. Some shops and small casual restaurants nearby. Nice breakfast spread was included. Impressive grounds. Free parking. Quiet, clean rooms; the bed was a bit hard. Good air conditioning. WiFi was good in my room, but not as good in my children's room. Attentive service. Easy 15 minute drive to the center of Palermo and 20 minutes to the airport. Great resort atmosphere. Above average in all respects. You can't go wrong with this one! Will definitely stay here again.

Nice hotel close to the beach

The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. Our room was spacious and clean. The room decor could use updating, but everything was in good condition. We had a large balcony with a great view of the ocean and mountains. The surrounding gardens were nice. Free breakfast was good. The lobby was large and very nice.

Building Works

Hotel staff were fabulous, hotel was very clean.
They hadn't however told us about the building works going on in the grounds. We were disappointed that we had to go and sit on the front, on the pavement or at cafes all day, or pay to get the bus into Palermo, as we had nowhere to sit in the grounds of the hotel. This was not what we wanted, we wanted a relaxing break, we did not get this. The hotel refunded 48 Euros from our bill, not enough compensation for the cafes and trips to Palermo.
The work men started at 7.30 each morning with diggers and cement cutters outside our window!

Parts of hotel need improvement corridor walls carpets needed updating no Internet in room as identified no bathrobes in room pool was not in use and booked for pool restaurant was excellent staff excellent really professional and nothing to much trouble especially waiters in restaurant environment in communal areas and gardens great area very relaxed used bus service to palermo and was ideal distance from main area to travel mondello is lovely very rustic

I had a lovely weekend in Modello with the convenience to the beach from my hotel, Mondello Palace. The staff is very accommodating however I wish the hotel will update the dated premise, in my opinion it is time.

Lovely stay

A bit grim from the outside, and could do with a little more TLC but we had a lovely two night stay here. The breakfast is very tasty, the reception staff were very helpful, and the pool is heavenly, with an attendant cleaning it constantly. The loungers are amongst the most comfortable I have come across! Perhaps not quite worth a 5 star rating, but would definitely stay here again.

Summary of (adequate) stay in June 2012

Great Mondello location, which is an excellent alternative to Palermo during the very hot summer months. Everything is within walking distance of the hotel and the bus stop for the bus into Palermo (#806) is right outside of the hotel. Rooms facing the sea have fabulous views. However, the Terraza building across the street had a party the Saturday night we were there and the thumping bass made sleep difficult if you are a light sleeper. The hotel room itself was very basic and threadbare but generally clean. The airconditioner kept the room barely cool enough to sleep without any covers but the room was unpleasantly warm during the day. There is a huge swimming pool, perfect for hot summer days, with a really nice lifeguard/poolman on duty. Although the pool is supposed to close at 6pm (a ridiculously early hour for the summer months), he kept it open everyday until the majority of the guests had left - usually around 6:45pm. The hotel's desk staff is lovely and helpful but sometimes there was no one on duty who spoke English; things like getting directions to a local restauarant for dinner then became very challenging. Overall, I would rate the Mondello Palace a 2.5 or 3 star hotel.

Not a great experience for us

The air conditioner didn't work both nights, and mosquitoes were a big problem -- a bad combination. Hotel staff was very cordial, but wasn't able to get the room comfortable two nights in a row. On the positive side: the room was nice and big; the hotel is close to the beach; and, although the pictures don't show it, it's pretty elegant inside, and has a nice, big garden outside (although it wasn't fully groomed and the pool was not open). Overall, I didn't feel it was a good value.

Great location for this 50's era htoel.

Grand, dated yet elegant. Fine sitting areas in the bar/entrance area, and a fine restaraunt, with great service. (especially the older chap, humble, caring ,and attentive to every need). THe rooms are vintage 50's,yet well appointed, closets and drawers, quite with modern bathrooms. Check your bill on leving,a s they may try to charge for internet even where reservation says "free", and overchrge for minibar usage. The location is the BEST, with a bautiful, large and clean swimming pool, seemingly unused, but well appointed. And just across from the georgeous soft sand beach.
