The hotel is rather dated. the rooms are very big and comfortable. However, communication is a problem, the concierge service is dismal; while the desk was manned, most of the staff were not able to provide useful or helpful information when we asked for help.

I stayed at the same hotel 10 years ago, I found it was dated back then. With the recent visit, nothing was changed. Still feel very dated, although well maintained.

My room was on the non-smoking floor. However, upon entering the room, there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke. The receptionist quickly re-assigned a new room without questions asked. The new room appeared to be clean without smoke smell. Unfortunately the 2nd night, I could smell the smoke again. My guess was someone was smoking and the smell traveled through the ventilation into my room.

Good value for money. The room is spacious and the bed and linen is comfortable. Breakfast buffet covers a good range of choices. Concierge staff is courteous and efficient. Late check out at 2 pm can be arranged with no extra cost. Very happy with this stay. The only improvement needed is the toiletries. Shampoo-conditioner in one does not cut it.

Special thanks to Sophia and Irene for upgrading my rooms 2 levels when they didn't have my booked room available (late checkout and cleaning were taking awhile). Overall good hotel in good location, but construction and decoration feel a bit dated. Room is not as luxurious or well-designed as other 5-star hotels of comparable price.

Everything was great, except for the slowness and disorganization at the front desk for check in and check out. There is no one line, and processing seems very slow.

The q for the check-in/out is not designed the best. Oftentimes you have people behind you getting service first and it's quite frustrating. Other than that the hotel is in good condition and a very convenient location.

Welcome was quite cold at the reception and the receptionist could not speak any good English.
Room size was pretty big but feel a bit old fashion.
We booked an executive room so we could get access to the executive lounge. The room is nice and big. They are very little choice and feel below average.
Breakfast was quite disappointed too. We ordered egg Benedict with salmon and this was the worst we never had. The chef did not know how to cook it and went to get the small piece of salmon on the buffet.
The other breakfast buffet was not great.

I went a few weeks before at the Marriott hotel next to it and the standard and food is much nicer.

This hotel is overwrought and undermanned. The decor is over the top gold and marble everywhere. Ceilings are low. Rooms are serviceable but cramped. The staff must be hired from the penal system bureaucracy. Not worthy of the Kempinsky name.

Service is an issue

Hotel is centrally located by shopping and transportation. However, the experience in the hotel is nothing more than average. Staff doesn't speak english at all with the exception of a few basic words. Not nearly enough to have a meaningful conversation. I know it is a 5 star hotel but certainly don't expect a 5 star service as you would have in the US, the standard is much lower. Rooms suppose to be non smoking but the several rooms that I was changed into all had strong smell of smoke in them. There was also some room cleaning issues while I was at the hotel. I brought it to the attention of management and to my surprise nothing was done and apparently wasn't taken very seriously. Now, I am sure someone from the hotel who speaks great english is going to reply to this review since it is the right thing to do, but in my opinion it is a smoke screen and meaningless since I requested assistance from management while I stayed at the hotel and they didn't follow through and it was like pulling teeth, so words mean nothing without actual and measurable assistance. If you find other hotels nearby, I would definitely consider them. But if an average experience is enough than this place will be ok.

One plus is the breakfast buffet while VERY expensive, it is very good.

The overall stay was pleasant. Friendly and efficient staff, spacious room and bathroom, free Wi-Fi, convenient location, just doorstep from subway station, nearby shopping mall and numerous restaurants options nearby. However, one drawback is the odor of the room. Despite my room was non-smoking, the room still has a strong cigarette odor, I had to turn the AC to the coolest temperature and the strongest wind to help circulating the smell. Other than that, I am quite pleased with the overall experience with Shenzhen Kempinski.

Very bad experience: there was a cup of coffee left and the toilet smell is bad. I suspect the room was badly cleaned. Rooms service response was slow. I was provided a room for people in disability but I am in good condition. It's really ridiculous. I will backlist this hotel and won't recommend it to you.

talking about service and location, the hotel is really good. The employees always give you a solutions for the different issues.
The only concern is that I made the booking, and I choose to pay in the hotel, my idea was to pay by cash when I make the check out, but I was surprise that when I went down to make the check out, the girl who attends me told me that the charge for my room was already debit from my credit car deposit, and I cannot change that, I never has this problem before but nobody can explain me if it was a issue of hotels.com or an issue of the hotel

Close to transit and a huge shopping mall. Hotel seems dark and hotel staff speak poor English. As long as interactions are less you will be fine. Getting a better room with executive room and services access is really worth the extra cost. The executive staff speak a lot better english and really take good care of customers.

When I check in for 2 persons, I was told that I have only 1 free breakfast for our room. I can accept Hotel room that don't include breakfast at all but isn't it strange to include only 1 breakfast for a room that is reserved for 2 people?
If they are cutting cost and think that offering 2 breakfast is too much for them, can't they just make a discount offer simply named \"buy one get one free promotion\" for breakfast during booking.

I've stayed in this hotel 2 years ago and though i don't like the aesthetic of the interior design, I found it up to the standard of a normal Kempinski and a 5-star hotel. However, after 2 years, the carpet and some furniture has worn out and cleaningness of the whole room is in doubt. The restaurant for breakfast is noisy and crowded with uncle and aunties from unknown area (obviously not big cities) of China who join tours.

The Kempinski is one of my favorite places to stay in Shenzhen. The property is grand and elegant, and the staff are extremely courteous. It is located in Nanshan, near the \"R&D\" center of Shenzhen. The rooms are spacious and have vaulted ceilings, adding to the feeling of grandeur. They stock the room daily with fresh fruits and bottled water. The buffet breakfast offers omlettes made to order, and a good selection of hot and cold dishes, fruits, and breads. It is located right next to the Houhai MTR stop, providing easy access to the rest of the city. I usually jog on business trips, and there is a pretty easy 2 mile jog from Kempinski to a walk/bike path which runs along the shores of Shenzhen Bay. The hotel is also connected to \"Coastal City\", if you are in to shopping, and there is a Carrefour supermarket a block away if you want to get some snacks and knick-knacks (or if you need to buy some socks because you forgot to pack them for some reason).

Stayed there based on decent reviews from Expedia, and proximity to the local manufactures I needed to visit. Requested a non-smoking room, however room and hallway smelled of cigarettes, they were accommodating willing to switch us to a new room, needed to leave to meet someone so just stayed. Carpets in the hallways need to be replaced as well as in room ( kept my socks on). Shower had lots of mildew and bathroom smelled of mold. Furniture was all beat up with scratches and nicks on just about every piece of wood in the room. Hotel might of been 4-5 stars a decade ago, now on the same level as a Ho-Jo's. After three days the wife made us switch to the JW Marriott in Futian, with free food and drinks on the top floor more than worth the extra cost.

You can expect all the facilities in a 5 stars hotel should have in this one. What makes this one difference than the others is the prime location which sited in the centre of all the restaurants, shopping & entertainment in a close distance. Besides, it's also close by the cross boarder entry, Shenzhen Bay which is one of the three border crossing into Hong Kong.

Top Rate Hotel, Located Next to Costal City

Hotel staff was pleasant and friendly. English was good. Hotel is a very nice luxury hotel that is located next to the Costal City shopping complex which has movie theatre, shops and restaurants. There are several ATM machines located throughout the area, so you can easily get money if needed. They metro is not too far away. Overall, the hotel is very nice, I gave it a 4 star mainly due to the price. I could see the price of this hotel in other countries like the US and Europe, but for Shenzhen I think it is a bit pricey.

We stayed at this hotel for one night after a trip to Hong Kong. Compraing to the space at HK, this place is spacious and well served. The room is large, clean and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and responsive. The hotel is in the new area in Shenzhen, close to the Shenzhenwai custom to HK. It's in a vibrant neighborhood and next to a major shopping mall with many restaurants, cinema and skating rink. Our family had a good time during the stay

I stay at the Kempinski often during my visits to Shenzhen. I mainly stay here for the convenience of accessing the Hong Kong airport by shuttle bus. The Kempinski is a very nice hotel but a bit overpriced in my opinion. The rooms and beds are very comfortable but the hotel is due for some upgrades like new carpet. Some of the rooms are starting to look a bit soiled and I think they should consider doing some cosmetic upgrades.

Probably the worst food in Kempinski worldwide. The Seasons restaurant is an embarrassment to the franchise. Nothing tastes fresh. Only exception is the great coffee.

The business lounge has terrible coffee and the selection is very limited. Hours are also very limited. They should visit SZ Ritz Carlton to see how a proper business lounge is run.

Kempinski also has a Chinese restaurant on the 4th floor which had mediocre food, expensive prices and no english speaking staff.

After reserving a non-smoking room I received a room that smelled of smoke and had an ashtray. Management insisted that it was a non-smoking room and sent up a cleaner with deodorizer. After explaining that this solution was unacceptable they changed my room to a true non-smoking room. This hotel used to be nice, new and fairly well run. Its now dirty, run down and poorly run.

I often stay at the Kempinski Shenzhen mainly for the convenience of access to the Hong Kong airport. The hotel has a shuttle pickup each morning for the HK airport. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are relatively clean although the carpets are several years old and getting a bit stained. The rooms could stand to be freshened up with new carpet.

Good hotel for Shenzhen

Hotel closed to mall and MRT which one could take after crossing border with Hong Kong. Nice hotel with comfortable room. Amenities are abundant. Staff may not be too comfortable speaking English. Area is safe and nice.
