Room was very dark, to the point I requested an additional light to be put in. Also the shower didn't work, and there was very little hot water (less than 3 mins worth) and although they offered to let me switch rooms, the rooms I could switch to were much smaller and the same price, which didn't seem right. In the end they gave me a discount, which I appreciate - but both these issues led to a very lower score than I'd give otherwise. Beyond that, the room I booked was large (by Paris standards) and well appointed, and right by the metro for convenience. Not a lot going on the neighborhood though, and a bit of a walk to most places. So overall a mixed bag, but generally good value for the price -- shower and darkness notwithstanding.
One other thing: lots of spare blankets, so I liked that I didn't have to ask, as I'm cold usually. Towels were also in good supply. Bed was comfy, but pillows were terrible. I'd suggest (if anyone reads these) to get softer pillows, as the ones they had gave me neck/ back pain.

The staff was excellent. Very nice and helpful. I chose this hotel because it was close to a meeting point for a tour so the location was great. Very walkable to many things. The room was clean and just what I needed. Bathroom was great with very large nice towels. Highly recommend this hidden gem

When I booked, I requested a quiet room and when I checked in they said they gave me one. However the room opened onto the lobby and anyone talking in the lobby or the hotel desk phone ringing gave noise heard in my room. They said no other room was available. Other than the noise, the room was good.

The floor we were assigned had an awful smell. Luckiliy we were able to change it but not until the next night as we were told all the rooms were taken. We had to open the windows wide and stop the fan because it was seeping through the vent. Although we got a different floor, it was a smaller room and we had to share a double bed instead of two twins which were what we booked. I would have given it a 5 star otherwise.

Quiet neighborhood street near the Denfert-Rochereau station, which is convenient for getting to/from airport and also catching the metro. It will be a metro ride or Lime bike ride of about 20-30 min to get to the Left Bank/Notre Dame area. Wish they had take-away coffee cups!

The hotel was perfect and very close to subway and RER so it was easy for us to get to CDG airport. We loved the street near by with all the restaurants, food stores and shops.
The room was very comfortable and my only complaint would be the pillows could use an upgrade as they are super stiff.

A hidden gem

The hotel was very nice. The people at the desk were very pleasant and helped us with directions and getting transportation. The room was very clean and the shower was excellent. It was very hot when we were there so we made good use of that. Checkout was seamless. We certainly would consider staying there again should we return to Paris.

In a good area. We walked to all the tourist attractions. A Metro station is five minutes walk away. Staff friendly and breakfast was plentiful. My one caveat would be that if you had large suitcases the rooms are a little small. Interesting shower! Lovely towels and bed linens and the beds were very comfortable. Spotlessly clean. Recommend a stay here.

Great area and the hotel was really close to a metro station, so travelling to other destinations all over Paris was easy.

The neighbourhood retains a village feel about it, especially when you head off of the main road. Sadly France is now going down the same route as the UK with their shopping malls - all the same shops, but there were some delightful independent shops with impeccable service.

Sone lovely bars and restaurants, and I would definitely recommend Brasserie Zeyer, built in 1913, which has a beautiful ceiling, good quality food and excellent service.

The staff at the hotel were lovely, very friendly and helpful. The hotel's location is in a quiet street. The rooms are the worst thing!

We paid for a superior room but it was definitely not that. It was on the top floor and although it was reasonably spacious for a Parisien hotel room, the bathroom facilities were atrocious. The bath only had a hand held shower attachment - no taps. There was no shower curtain either, resulting in water going everywhere.The hand basin was a stand-alone contraption and the tap was like a shower one, except that it did not move and only delivered cold water.
We complained on our second day at the hotel and were told that we could change our room, which we did on the third day. The new room did at least have a proper shower and a functioning hand basin t

We were assigned two double rooms that were significantly different in quality. One was extremely tiny with red painted walls and the other was a pleasant, more spacious loft on the top floor. When I complained of the disparity, they thankfully gave us a bigger room. Note that some of the rooms only have bathtubs with handheld shower. So tell them you need full shower if this would be a problem. The water for showers started out hot and quickly went cold. We were told it was a surge of guest usage, but this happened every shower, day and night, for 7 days. The hotel needs to monitor smoking more. One floor (4) had a definite smoke smell and the neighbors were smoking. Wifi was spotty. That said, all rooms and bathrooms were clean and new. The beds were comfortable. Each room had a mini-fridge. Two receptionists made an error on my bill and I was surprised with a significant extra charge at checkout. The billing breakdown seemed to verify this, but how could two separate people make such a mistake?! Hotel is in a good location near a metro station. All in all, this hotel can be a hit or miss. You may get a pleasant, spacious room or a tiny dark one. You may get competent reception or not, you may get a fresh or smoky smell. You may have strong wifi or weak. You may have a tub or shower, hot water or cold. You may do worse in Paris…. but you may do better.

We really enjoyed our stay at Sophie Germain. The front desk couldn't have been nicer. We didn't spend much time at the hotel except to sleep but the room was comfortable and the windows blocked out all outside noise. The hotel has been renovated and it very nice. The bathroom was especially pretty and the shower amazing!
The neighborhood is not touristy and that was ok after dealing with crowds of tourists all day. Metro right across the street. Very handy.

Good location outside the tourist noise

Honey moon style trip around Europe and we found this hotels to be very convenient. Just 2 min from the Metro, walking distance to Rue Daguerre street with lots of cafes and local food stores. Hotel was excellent with English speaking staff, front desk service 24hrs, tiny rooms though. No big deal, we still had a great time.

Our stay at Hotel Sophie Germain had been such a wonderful stay. The receptionist at the front, Josephine, was absolutely amazing! She was super helpful and really went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Our only issue was with the rooms and bathrooms being a bit small and the fact that it had smelt like cigarettes, including the towels. Other than that, we were pretty comfortable. The service we received was phenomenal. We also weren’t too far from the main city of Paris. It was about a fifteen minute Uber drive to the Eiffel Tower. By walking distance we were right by a whole bunch of cafes and a little mini mart.

The entire staff was so gracious and helpful. Clean hotel, comfortable beds, good bathroom and shower and breakfast was perfect for beginning your day. Even though it was late when we checked in - 930pm, the gentleman working the desk the first night made a call to a local restaurant asking them if they could serve us dinner. They accommodated us and great dinner. Sophie, one of the hotel reps always greeted us warmly every time we saw her and she was kind enough to call several local taxi services when we checked out as Uber wanted 100 euros for the trip to the airport. She found us a taxi- van for 4 people and a bunch of luggage- for 62 euros. Bus and metro train very close and cheap to travel around Paris. Also, many cafes to choose from within 10 minute walk.

One night with daughter

Travelled with my 21 year old daughter for one night. Taking early flight to Florence from Orly the next day. It was perfect for that. Great comfy bed and great shower. Great location. Check out the local street night life. We loved seeing how local Parisians spent a Friday night. Easy to get to sites and easy to get to orly. The room is small as expected but more so. Had to open up luggage on desk. Lol. So maybe not for long stay?

Excellent front desk staff - very helpful and knowledgeable.
Location is excellent. Just a short walk from the Denfert-Rochereau RER B station. You can take the RER B from Charles De Gaulle Airport to this station and it is just a short walk to the hotel. The Orly Airport bus also leaves from this station.
Neighborhood is pretty quiet with shops, cafes and restaurants nearby.
I would definitely stay again.

Lovely, clean hotel in Montparnasse

We loved The Hotel Sophie Germain in Montparnasse! We had a very cute room on the 6th floor, with a tiny balcony on one side, and a view over the rooftops of Paris on the other side. Everything was squeaky clean. There was a nice soaking tub, comfy bed, refrigerator, desk, decent wifi, and plenty of room to hang your clothes. The staff at the front desk was very friendly. Only thing to be aware of is that the elevator is TINY. It just fits two people, but if you have big suitcases you might have to take multiple trips. We did not try the hotel breakfast because there are excellent bakeries and cafés all around the neighborhood. There's also a good supermarket (Monoprix) nearby. We picked this hotel because it is so close to the Orlybus stop at Denfert-Rochereau.

Hotel was a great location to a central metro that had multiple lines running through making it very easy to get to the Tower, Montmarte and Notre Dame, etc. Air conditioning worked great - was 90F+ 4 days of our 5 and room stayed very cool.

The hotel was great, and it was steps away from the metro (line 4). The bathroom was updated, and the room was of a comfortable size. There was also a small refrigerator in the room - came in very handy! The only downside was that the bed was really firm, and the pillows were really soft - a combination which left my neck a bit sore.

This hotel is perfect located to the metro stations and particularly one of the stations for RER B witch is take you directly to CDG airport less than a hour, area is safe , locals cafes , bakery, and shopping really a plus, the we stayed for a weekend in Paris the room since is small is really cozy perfect for a couple, bath shower is really nice up to date, the bed is amazing i really enjoyed lay on it xtra pillow a plus the staff always have a nice attitude and the housekeeping top notch, i will definable stay on this hotel again

I arrived a bit early but a room was found for me on fifth floor, really quiet.Not a tourist district, but the location is excellent for Denfert-Rochereau and connections to Orly. Hotel is modern, clean and well equipped. Room size is good for Paris and bathroom accommodated a fine walk in shower.Did not try breakfast, but room has tea making facilities. Staff are friendly and professional. Altogether a comfortable, convenient base in Paris.

We stayed a the Sophie Germain for an extended weekend and despite being frequent travellers to Paris, this was the first time we stayed in the Montparnasse area. The area itself and hotel are lovely and it's very comparable to a more expensive hotel we had stayed at in the Madeleine area. The beauty is that the Mouton-Duvernet metro stop is only a few metres from the hotel so it's very easy to come and go (the only downside here is that you are about 10-15mins by metro away from the seine/louvre or marais area if that's your thing)

The staff are very helpful, they allowed us to check in early, leave baggage at reception for the last day, my wife was workign in the room one of the days so they cleaning time was flexible etc. Really cannot complain there. The room was freshly renovated and felt very new and clean and on the whole a bit larger than average.

I strongly recommend the Sophie Germain - it's an excellent hotel, and when you also factor in the price it's becomes even more attractive

Quiet location, close to public transport

Great location in a quiet neighborhood. The hotel is 1 minute from a metro station, providing easy access to many sites.
The room is certainly on the small size (but this is Paris after all, but was spotlessly clean with a comfortable bed. Having a small fridge in the room was an added bonus. The WI-FI worked very well.

Nice neighborhood/convenient location

Hotel Sophie Germain ended up being a very good choice for 6 nights in Paris. Located in Montparnasse, it is within 1 minute walk of a regular Metro stop and a 3-minute walk of a larger Metro stop with access to OrlyBus and RER Metro for airport transfers. Also within 3-minute walk of Monoprix grocery store and Rue Daguerre food markets/pedestrian street. Hotel room also has kettle, tea, instant coffee, etc and good Wi-Fi. We had two different rooms as we had two legs of our stay - both rooms were small but clean and well-appointed, though the first room was obviously renovated earlier and had a slightly worn carpet and a little musty smell initially, which dissipated. First room was 3rd floor and had a stylish bathroom with nice finishings but the bathroom was very small (e.g. if you were tall, knees would hit the wall while sitting on toilet). The second room (on the first floor) was quite lovely, with just a little more space in the room overall and a totally normal-sized bathroom. Both rooms faced the street as they were twin rooms, and twin rooms were only available on the front of the hotel. We had quite a bit of a noise for the first few days of our stay, as there was construction happening at the Pizza Hut nearby but by our last night's stay on the 1st floor had no street noise at all. As for noise within the hotel, there seem to be only a few units on each floor, and while you can occasionally hear other guests, it is well within reason. Would stay again.

Clean, friendly but noisy

The room is very nice itself, enough space for luggages and stuff for our twin room. The room is tidy and clean and was a comfortable stay, but the sound-proof is terrible especially at all time we could hear people closing doors, talking next door and of course when the staff is cleaning the other rooms with vacuum machines.

The staff are all very friendly and helpful,they are very happy to share recommendation of restaurants nearby to the hotel. The hotel itself is situated at a very good location, just 2 mins away by walk, its the shopping and dining area. Feeling good and safe at this hotel.

Good location and renovated

Good location, renovated and clean. Room small but OK, shower room very cosy indeed but suffices for short stay. Plenty of power points and a/c, essential for the summer months. TV only has French channels. Very handy for metro and RER. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Not cheap but reasonable by Paris standards.

Clean hotel

Main reason to recommend this hotel is the cleanliness. However, the room is so small. Info said that they have tours info, but they don't. They don't sell tickets anymore.

Fun area to explore and close to the Metro

Very welcoming, polite staff. The hotel was being repainted so scaffolding and paint buckets, but what had been painted looked great. Our room was quite comfortable, and it was very fun to walk on Rue Daguerre which is a short walk away.

Under Renovation

I have stayed here many times and it has always been pleasant, hence my willingness to return. Upon arrival I quickly learned that the majority of the property was under renovation which clear compromised the integrity of the hotel. Fire exits were inaccessible due to removed carpet, detritus, and building materials in the stairwells. They should close the entire hotel, renovate, and then re-open or offer a 50% rebate to customers who's stayed during the undisclosed renovation.

Good hotel good price

Had no problems. The location was nice, right next to a metro stop one stop away from a RER station. The room was small as to be expected, but was adequate. Neighborhood was some good restaurants.

Nice location with good comfort

The location was good because the metro station is within 1min walk. Staffs in reception were helpful. The room was clean but the wifi signal is terrible, that kept connecting all the time.

Mixed !!!

Hotel staff very friendly, can't fault them. The main part of the room was great, the bathroom was very tired looking & I didn't have a proper shower, there was no shower curtain, I had to sit in the bath, and use the spray head without trying to get the bathroom soaking wet, the bath isn't full length, so a man may have a problem stretching out fully. The main thing that caused me a problem was the noise, I know most hotels have noise as people arrive & leave at various times, but I was in a room right by reception & could hear everything, for night 2 I went & bought some ear plugs. 3 metro stops very near, less than 5 mins walk to all 3. Line 4 & 6, looks far out on metro map, but isn't really. Mouton Duvernet is across the main road, Alesia to the left, Denfert Rochereau to the right, takes you to Trocadero in about 15 / 20 mins. Just one change on line 4 to get to the Moulin Rouge. The area the hotel is in is more residential, although the main street has lots of branded shops on it Ave du General Leclerc.

Good hotel in Paris near transportation

Good hotel in a good location. Some gripes, shower is too small so it won't fit bigger people. I'm skinny and I barely fit in it. Room is clean and bed was very comfortable. Sometimes it was a big loud at night but I'm a heavy sleeper.
