Bathroom amenities and water pressure were good.
Double bed was two singles pushed together.
Gardens were pleasant and the pool was inviting.
Staff, for the most part, we're friendly.
The buildings need a bit of tlc.

When we first arrived, we were very unsatisfied with the Villa room we had booked- it was in a run-down building next to the actual hotel. We were able to switch our room to a Sea-View room which was much better, but throughout our stay we had difficulties communicating with the hotel staff and front desk, who did not seem to speak English and understand a lot of the requests we had. Ordering room service was also a struggle because no one in the kitchen seemed to speak English either, and they frequently got our order wrong. We had multiple communication issues when changing rooms, ordering, and asking general questions to the staff. Overall we did not feel they had the intentions of catering to our needs throughout our stay.

A nice hotel with all needs met, the room was kept brilliantly clean, breakfast was vast with variety. Two niggles, arrived at 1am and had no help with luggage so had to carry bags up a hill, villa sat at the top of a hill difficult with bags over all no help with luggage and some building works surrounding the hotel but besides that hotel is great

nice hotel but massive building site for miles

Excellent hotel . Staff ok but had a bad experience when we asked to extend for a night. A young man wearing glasses on reception told us it was full after seeing that a coach had pulled up outside ... so he was in a rush to get rid of us. We found this hard to believe as rooms were still on internet that were available. After an hour of panic we went back and were quite insistent that the hotel had rooms.

Spoke to another lady who eventually said that rooms had suddenly become available ??? The chap looked very sheepish and apologised ??? I guess it doesn't change his pay packet if the hotel looses customers .

But hotel in good situation . However I wished that we had just taken a night cruise from HANOI. As after seeing the beautiful Islands there was no where else locally to go as the beach and area for miles opposite the hotel is literally a massive building site and very noisy .

10 mins walk to shopping street

One of my friend used to stay here, but I forgot she came with travel group...
We came in low season and booked a 'sea view' room. Room is at 7th of 12(or 13?) floor.(what are the rooms above?) No picturesque view to see but a huge spectacular construction at front (new shopping center).
I understand there are some in-room maintenances have to be done before high season, but can you hotel please don't START AT 6:00 IN THE MORNING!!! (the time travel groups have got up for breakfast and left)
Also the dinner at highest floor restaurant was terrible, the 20 USD steak worst than I has had 4USD street food in my hometown . No more words for another 20USD red wine....
When I looked at the travel group buses in park lot, hearing the hotel maintenance noisy, watching the workers in constructing shopping centre.... supposed to give my partner a big surprise (and the best memory to her) but now I only felt like a fool when her voice recalled in my mind \"save the money from the place just for sleeping\".....

Very cheerful & experience staff in the hotel. Not only at the reception. The 14th level restaurant & the housekeeping team are equally good.
It's a good stay. To mention the reception staff Lucy/Huyen is very patience & experience, Groom her & she has the potiential.

This would have been a great hotel about 15 years ago. Nothing seems to have been updated since then. Unless your looking for a 'special' massage, don't bother going to the spa. After refusing the 'special' I was given a poor massage and then she tried to insist on a tip that was greater than the original cost!
Pool had a few chairs around, as well as plenty of leaves floating... but no towels. We read about the great beach nearby, which is why we booked, but nearest beach is about 0.5 km and across a major road.
We booked for 3 nights after our Halong Bay cruise (which is awesome), but after first night hired a car to go back to Hanoi. There is nothing to do at the hotel or anywhere in the city.

Nice hotel starting to look a little tired

Had a fab holiday. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Some of the staff didn't speak English so ran into some difficulties there but eventually managed to get satisfactory answers to or enquiries. The whole area is under construction which causes a dust cloud but the hotel and most of the surrounding businesses clean constant to try and minimise the dust. Unfortunately this can't be helped but once all the constructing is finished Halong Bay will be an amazing place to visit. Probably one off the most spectacularly beautiful places in the world. We plan to go back in a couple of years. Thank you to all the staff at the Siagon Hotel for a truly lovely and very memorable holiday

Excellent accomodations...boring location

Stayed in a villa which was quiet and relaxing. Killer hill to walk up and down if you're in and out multiple times a day! Facilities are modern and well kept. There is absolutely nothing to do in the area though and across the street is a hideous construction sight which is already a whole year off schedule (a theme park is being built...looks like they haven't learned from Vinpearl Land's failures?) and likely to still be going on well into 2017. Overall, the facilities were nice but if you're looking to be in a better situated area I'd say go a little further East to a spot like Muong Thanh Hotel and pay that little bit more.

Good hotel but staff lacking

I spent two nights here in October. The hotel has a great pool. The room was comfortable with no complaints. Internet, hot water and tv were great. The breakfast buffet was bland and uninspiring. The check in staff had a difficult time with my reservation. The front staff lacked in English and seemed to only want to help the local day tourists from Hanoi. The help desk had no maps or info on using local buses.

Good room but poor service

The room and facilities were very good here. The bed was comfortable, the internet worked well, the room was clean and the pool was fine. However, the staff lacked in friendliness and being helpful. I twice e mailed them an item to print out and this was not done. The tour info girl had no maps or knowledge of public transport. The staff couldn't find a copy of my passport. The breakfast was mediocre, I don't like eating cold noodles for breakfast. The pool was clean and relaxing. The location is a distance from other restaurants or the pier. The hotel seems satisfied in catering to only local Vietnamese tour groups and not foreign independent travelers.

Why would anyone stay here?

This is a tourist barn for bus tours. It is in the middle of no where. It's a bit beat up, but the location is terrible. It's a $6 cab ride anywhere which negates the low price. It's also built into a hillside which is difficult for the disabled. We left after one day of sitting in our room with the AC on high.

The hotel is in a nice location. There was hot water and air conditioning in my room. This is a great place for the price. If you are on a budget I recommend you stay here. The staff is very helpful and will book tours for you as well.

Disappointing.

Disclaimer: I have only stayed in 2 hotels in Vietnam. One was wonderful. The other one was the Saigon Ha Long Hotel.

Pros: the people were friendly. The room was cleanish.

Cons: The \"air conditioning\" only circulated the warm air around the room, it was miserable. The \"king bed\" was two double beds pushed together. People smoked inside the hotel frequently and it wafted into the private rooms. The \"gym\" consisted of 3 pieces of very outdated equipment which badly needed oiling or repairs and was in a stifling hot room. Thick dust exhaled from the gym carpet every time you stepped on it and getting on the floor to do situps resulted in being covered with the stuff. The buffet was okay but not remarkable. The Karaoke was \"out of service\". The bar was small and the service ridiculously slow, especially if you ordered a cocktail (which required the bar tender to use an instruction manual); it easily took 20 minutes for them to make one cocktail. The service in the restaurant was also very slow.The massage parlor didn't open until 5 pm and despite advertising a simple foot soak, this was only available in combination with the purchase of a more expensive massage or sauna treatment. I tried using the stairs once and ended up in a part of the hotel which was under construction and kind of dangerous. We went next door to the Royal Ha Long Hotel for dinner one night and we wished we'd stayed there- it seemed much more updated and clean.

We stayed in the Villa, which was separate from the main hotel complex. The staircase inside the Villas are quite narrow, so if you have large luggage and happen to be assigned a top floor room (like we did), it's quite the trek up the stairs. The room in the Villa was pretty good...could have been a bit cleaner, but for someone like me, who is quite picky about cleanliness, I was okay with the room. The hotel is located off of the main street and it's a quite the climb up to the hotel, especially late at night. It's located less than a few minutes drive from the marina where you board the boats for the Halong Bay tours. The breakfast buffet at the hotel was actually quite good, but very, very busy!

So-so hotel, well past its prime.

this hotel is quite dated. We stayed in the \"Villas\" which are quite run down and seemingly a downgrade from the normal hotel room. They wanted to charge us 250,000 dong to play tennis for one hour! Breakfast was mostly Asian food, not bad but no variety from day to day. Hotel was clean, just dated. Not a very good location but there again I don't think there was a good location in HaLong city. People just pass through to catch the boat but there was no tourist area or attractions.

This hotel have neither. Hotel staff were rude, when I called to ask a question, they hung up on me several times. Breakfast was average. The breakfast staff started packing up breakfast while we were eating then proceeded to stare at us as if we were inconveniencing them. Strange place. Definitely not 4 stars.

Good location with stunning views

This hotel has amazing panoramic views of Halong Bay from the top floor restaurant. Perfect to gaze over whilst having breakfast!
We did have some major issues during our stay however. We were initially given a room in the villa which is not connected to the main hotel. Do not accept one of these rooms, instead ask for a room in the main hotel. The villa room was freezing cold and the shower had no hot water! We asked to swap rooms and were given another villa room which also had no hot water and in addition the room door could not be locked. Terrible! Once again we asked to be moved and finally were given a room in the main hotel which was much better. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly, especially the tour operator who was amazing!
Would recommend this hotel purely for the views. Just don't stay in the villa!

Not for solo or small groups

The hotel is desgined around tour groups not solo travel. Neighbourhood is very very quiet, nothing to see, very few places to eat. Hotel doesnt offer bookings for tours or buses to hanoi and were not very helpful in trying to accomodate my issues with getting back to hanoi. The pool was dirty, no towels or toilet paper in pool toilet area. Only one bar opened despite advertised that it has several bars, pool table looked like it been through the wars (no pung intended). Massage palour closed till 5pm although advertised opened all hours. Massage rooms were below par and massage average at best. However, the villa i got put in was very nice and clean. Breakfast was average.

Great stay, but bad gym:-/

Great stay, clean, very nice room in one of the villas, good service (just about everyone spoke English at the front desk, which helps:))!! The only issue was the fitness room that was pictured on the site. I always try to workout when traveling, and reserve hotels that have fitness centers (even small ones suffice). This was a small one, but the problem was that the equipment was SOOOO run down, that NONE of it worked... literally NOTHING!!! Luckily they recommended a gym up the street (towards Halong City), left at the Post Office, and just up the hill which was great! Still older equipment, but the people there were great and everything was functioning!:)

I only stayed one night before heading to a cruise in the bay however found the hotel easy to find, very clean and had great helpful staff. I stayed in one of the Villa's outside the main hotel and they were very quiet (rare in Vietnam!), and the room was a great standard.

Booked private villa which is not a private villa and guest smoke in the entrance way leaving the stench seeping into other rooms. Pool ok. Breakfast good buffet, tennis court but told us it was booked out for our stay, we waited by the pool and saw no one on the courts all day so went back to reception to be told then they don't have the racquets! The gym in the photos is not exactly what's in the picture, it's from the 1970s and when trying it out anyway, non of it worked, we attempted to get my partners haircut in the salon that they have as he couldn't find any clean or decent looking ones in halong bay city, but again were told that the hairdresser wasn't working and it was closed, we were also accused of using water from the mini bar and demanded payment which took a while for them to realise it was bottles we purchased outside of the hotel, and as for the tour operator, she's an absolute con artist, fed us a beautiful brochure for a luxury boat cruise for a triple figure price and we though from a hotel with this rating, we'd get what we pay for. NO! A shabby old boat with a completely different name, the tour guide didn't even have our details and he attempted to put us in a lower deck cabin, which I protested I payed for a upper deck, non of the activities in the itinerary were followed through except gliding around the bay in the boat and we got to kayak for 40mins(yes that's all) luckily we met people of similar age and we kept ourselfs amused but I am furious with the hotel. We are travelling Asia and booked this hotel to spoil ourselfs as we wanted an upgrade to the midrange hotels we've been staying at and we were completely let down.

Awesome breakfast!

The best of this hotel is the breakfast in a nice restaurant on 14th floor, with incredible view. The pool is nice and people working on the hotel are also helpful. Just be aware that you may be sent to another building, not the main one, because that is the place for the cheaper room. We were upgraded so we stayed on the main tower. The travel agency was not so useful as the girl told us there was no bus to Hanoi at certain time and we should book a car with her... 30 minutes later we were on a bus to Hanoi.

This hotel was just fine, but it is clearly for business conferences and large tour groups, not anyone trying to sightsee in Halong Bay. There's really nothing good around- just a few empty restaurants and a tour company that will screw you over if you're trying to get out on boats to see the bay. Far too far from anything worth doing or seeing.

We were quite disappointed with this hotel, instead of the giant building overlooking the bay we were the only people in villas of to the side where we couldnt see much and were far away from hotel facilities. We found the staff very unhelpful and rude, i even got hung up on while on the phone to them. The pool was freezing but clean and the tennis court looked really good but the hotel didnt have rackets to loan out! what tourists walks around with a tennis racket! location wasnt great, very close to the marina but not much else. I would not stay at this hotel again.

I love this hotel. I was offered one of the villas outside the main building and my side had a balcony overlooking the beach. The breakfast was exceptional with both western and Asian options. I was highly impressed with Ha, the lady at the tour desk. She organised the best trips with lots of detailed information to make an informed choice.

Very average hotel , language issues unless a local, having to pay for hotel facilities was a xxxx take , although breakfast room had a brilliant view on a clear day and the food in the morning was good, little tip don't book a villa , security of room was disgusting , a gust of wind would of seen the door open,of our trip (3 weeks) it was the worst hotel we stayed at .We used budget to luxury hotels and this was no more than 2 stars.

Disappointing for a 4 star hotel

First let me clarify we stayed in a villa room which is not in the main building where most people stay. It is a short but steep walk to these so older or physically unfit people you may want to avoid. The rooms are a good size and clean but are a bit dated and look much better in the photos than real life. The bed was the hardest we've slept on in all of Asia. If you are enticed but the GYM forget it, with the exception of one machine the equipment is so old and worn out, I do not joke the stuff is from the 1980's...possibly the 70's. Also the spa and sauna were not free and cost a lot per hour, which you may not want to pay considering the sauna is being used as storage and is full of boxes.
The breakfast was the highlight. It was a buffet and good quality.
All in all not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel, we stayed in nicer 3 star places.

the staff were not friendly or helpful at all - they had a map of the area that you could not read. I was trying to find a certain restaurant and no one made an attempt to help. I was the only person at the pool every day which was supposed to have a bar - no services there. The hotel was pretty much empty all day while people were out on boats and then the tour buses would arrive. The breakfast in the morning was very good. The views from the hotel restaurant were nice. The room had cracks and chips ...even a hole in the bath tub. Very run down property.

Nice Location

The location of the hotel is a little set back from the main street, and that makes a lot of difference.

The rooms are comfortable. My wife and I ended up spending two days in the room while waiting out typhoon no. 6. The only problem encountered was that we would have appreciated only one bed rather than two.

The restaurant prices were acceptable, while the choice was limited. We went to both restaurants and they offer the same selection.

Book at Novotel - similar price!
There was a loud drilling noise every morning which woke us up.
There is an extremely loud noise caused by the bugs round by the pool. You have to be there to understand how loud this is.
On one day the maids came into our room and woke us up at 7am! We asked them to come back later. They came back at 7.30am. This could be partly our fault as we didn't leave a sign on the door. In general the maids did a very good job.
The food was quite disappointing. One of the meals was probably one of the worst meals I have ever had. The restaurant was also empty every time we went in there which felt very odd.
The majority of staff could not speak very good English which made it very difficult to understand them. We were not greeted in a very friendly manner at all in comparison to other places we have stayed.
The pool was not particularly clean and there were only 6 sunbeds which made it quite difficult to get one. The sunbeds were also very uncomfortable. I cannot understand why they didn't have cushions.
The gym looked very dated and small. In fact the whole hotel looked very dated and in need of some uplifting.
We decided to book a trip round Ha Long Bay and thought it would be best to book it through the hotel. What a mistake this was. The guy was absolutely useless & kept trying to upgrade me (for an extra cost, of course) and change which day we were going on. The trip we were going on changed about 10 times.
Breakfast choice very limited.

Average Hotel with a good view

The hotel was clean, but the beds were not that comfortable and the bathroom was made with the elderly and vertically challenged in mind. We booked two rooms and one of them was extremely difficult to get into since the slot for the keycard was damaged. No safe in the room makes this place slightly questionable in terms of safety, but since it was so difficult to get into our room we didn't mind it that much. The front desk wanted to hold onto our passports overnight, but we wouldn't let them. The included breakfast was good, but nothing to rave about. However, the view from the restaurant was very nice.

Nice view, not much around though

We thought we were going to stay 4 days here, but quickly changed it to 1 night. Nothing wrong with the hotel per se, we were coming from the Sofitel in Hanoi so it was quite a change. My friend had the room next to us, he stayed for a couple days. Good breakfast down below, it's a large hotel with tennis court in front you can rent. You are pretty close to the docks to take you to Halong Bay, which is a plus. Walking around the area there are so-so bus restaurants. What I want to get across in the review is, it's not a place that you want to stay more than a night or two. Nothing to do with the Hotel, more to do about the location. Catba island that my friend stayed at, was much nicer.

We'd certainly stay here again!

On arrival we were upgraded to an Executive Suite, not sure why but it was just what we needed after an uncomfortable overnight bus trip from Sapa. We were on the 10th floor with two balconies and a fantastic view of the bay - only problem was, we couldn't see it because of the weather! Our suite was huge but we peeked in some of the other rooms and they were also a good size. I think our only complaint is the bed was very hard, as they all seem to be in Vietnam. A breakfast buffet was included and there was a very good choice of both western and asian foods. Restaurant is on the 14th floor with a great view of the bay. Internet connection is good. Staff were generally friendly and helpful but a little lacking in local information - hire of motorbikes and bus and boat info etc. Apart from that, the pool being closed for maintenance while we were there and the hard beds we would have given this hotel full marks.

Great hotel and great view

We arrived really early in the morning at about 2:30am, but they were able to offer us a meal and help us with our bags, etc. We had a room on the 7th floor (the hotel has 14 floors) and it was very spacious and well equipped. The view in the morning from the balcony was breathtaking. The free buffet breakfast at the Panorama Hotel on the 14th floor was quite nice too and the view from there was equally breathtaking. Would recommend this hotel to all. One of the best if not the best hotels in Halong.

The breakfast buffet was nice and included but eating at the hotel at any other time is not something I would suggest. Our first night we went up to the top floor restaurant. The drink I ordered was awful and not made correctly. The food took forever and we were the only customers in the restaurant, when it came out it lacked flavor and wasn't what they had described on the menu.

The room is ok, shows wear here and there, wall needs reprint, decorate pillows shows wear, shower curtain needs a new one, towels has stains. everything has price to prevent guests steal from them. I travel with two kids age 4 and 5. The hotel wants to charge 4 dollars each for breakfast. They even have a measures at the restaurant door to measure the height of each kid. On this trip, I traveled to a few cities and my kids are eat free , except this hotel.
Pool is small , the dearest is about five feet five, there were at least 8 kids in the pool with a swimming instructor. A kid told me they paid to swim here. Didn't the pool for gues at the hotel ? When I check out, they checked the room and asked me , where are the sleepers and the
Paper holder? I said check the room again. They found them a few minutes later. I would not come back to this hotel again. I would rather pay more to stay in Novotel.

hotel.com should not offer this hotel

I don't know where to start. Was it the maids walking in unannounced? Or the constant loud noise of construction on a floor near us? Maybe the obvious signs of aging and need of repair at the location? After complaining to management twice about the noise, we were finally moved. Went there for a relaxing time, but the experience was horrible. Would not recommend and would suggest hotels.com remove the hotel from its list of offered preoprties

The hotel is old. However the room ( we had an ocean view room) is quite big and nice. The bath room is clean. The restaurant service is very good. Food is good and very reasonable.

Great views, great breakfast.

Great views, great breakfast. very average service but people allowed to smoke in non smoking areas which was frustrating. Hotel could do with a scrub and proper clean.

Bell boys stand there and don't do a thing. Frustrating. but great location and the view is amazing

お風呂に水を張れない

このホテルに過去数回宿泊してます。ハロンに来たらこのホテルです。部屋の広さ、ロビーの広さ、海側の眺望がとてもいいです。今回は２泊しました。以前から較べると改装されて綺麗になっていました。あいにく１泊目の部屋はバスタブに十分水を張れない（底のキャップがしっかり閉まらない）、暖房が利きませんでした。気づいた時間が夜遅くなので、その晩は我慢。翌朝フロントに伝えて部屋を変えてもらいました。先にも書きましたが、お気に入りのホテルなので、部屋内のメンテナンスをもう少ししてほしいと思いました。

朝食時、レストランからの眺めはGOOD。朝食ブッフェでは、いろんな種類の食べ物があり、おなか一杯になりました。

Hôtel un peu vieillissant mais les chambres sont spacieuses avec vue sur mer. Le wifi est très bien, le petit déjeuner est varié et bien, mais s’arrete à 9h. très bon rapport qualité prix. Personnel sympathique .

Personnel super accueillant, on tout fait pour m aider alors que j avais perdue mon sac a dos, jusqu a aller contrôler les vidéos surveillance de ma sortie du taxi, ils ont appeler la compagnie de taxi pour savoir si le sac a dos était dans la voiture qui nous a amener a l hôtel, d une extrême gentillesse très rare au Vietnam. Hotel tres propre, petit dejeuner sous forme de buffet à volonté avec beaucoup de choix, un des rares de tout les hotels que j ai fait au vietnam ou on trouve en general que du pein de mie en tranche et tout le reste est asiatique
