If you book the Chateau le Thil room, please understand that you're basically booking at a separate hotel. You need a car for the 3 min drive, or a bike during the day. We wished we would have just booked at the main hotel, because it felt like we got a completely separate experience than what we were hoping for. We also wished the distance between the two was made clearer on booking (or with an immediate follow up email) - it really felt like a separate property and should be marketed as such. The main hotel itself was beautiful, but we had some missteps with the staff. A few large groups were staying at the property and they seemed much more concerned with them than with our smaller group of 4. Service as the restaurant was spotty - twice we ordered white wines (both in French, and by pointing to them on the menu), and were delivered reds. At check-in it was not made clear where the spa was, and there's little signage in the hotel, so we were wandering around trying to find someone to direct us before our appointment (no one at the front desk). They directed us through a gate that was locked, it was a frustrating situation. The spa itself was beautiful, if limited in facilities (2 pools and a steam room), but the treatments were excellent. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Overall, it felt like a beautiful surface without the actual bones of good service. We didn't feel as cared for as we have at other luxury properties. It was frankly disappointing.

Disappointing Experience Les Sources de Caudalie

Our recent stay at Les Sources de Caudalie in Bordeaux was riddled with significant issues that fell far short of a five-star experience. Despite its prestigious Relais & Châteaux status, our visit was marred by mistakes and poor service. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a \"welcome back\" note, although neither my wife nor I had ever stayed there before. This mistake caused unnecessary suspicion and tension, as my wife thought I had previously visited the hotel with someone else.
Our room was located a mile away from the main building, with no amenities such as a pool, bar, or restaurant nearby. This inconvenience is unacceptable for a five-star hotel where guests expect easy access to facilities.
Dining was equally disappointing. When we tried to eat at Rouge, the hotel's small restaurant, it was closed for a private event despite two-thirds of the space being unoccupied. We were denied service, leaving us without dining options. Additionally, although the hotel advertises 24/7 room service, this was not available in our room’s location. The cleanliness and housekeeping standards were appalling. Instead of changing coffee cups, the staff simply rinsed them in the bathroom sink. Such a lack of proper hygiene is unacceptable and concerning for guests.
The overall service was poor, with staff displaying a dismissive attitude towards our concerns. This indifference was especially frustrating given the €700 per night rate we paid.

We Cycled around the wineries, sampled the wine where we stayed, ate in their great restaurant options, in a fabulous setting, had a massage at the spa and swam in the lovely pool area. All in all we had a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

We had a terrible experience at this hotel that demonstrates its poor management, largely incompetent staff, and utter lack of customer service. Ahead of arrival, the hotel did not communicate how many of the facilities were closed due to COVID-19 (nor was it indicated on their website). Only 1 of 3 restaurants was operating and we couldn’t get reservations there for each night of our stay (there are no other restaurants in the immediate area). Guests were only able to reserve gym access by hiring their private trainer for 70 euros an hour. The spa—the main draw of the estate—was almost fully booked and we were unable to get the services we wanted (most hotels of this caliber call you beforehand to make sure their guests can benefit from their facilities versus the public). Examples of other issues- the reception called early in the morning to ask a question about room cleaning, waking us up. There were many times throughout the visit where the front desk did not pick up our phone calls, making it necessary for us to walk to the desk. Bugs and spiders in curtains that had not been cleaned. On the final bill, we were wrongly charged for multiple items. We did manage to get a booking for massages at the end of our stay, and were extremely disappointed. They charged a different price than we were told upon booking (and that was in the brochure) and were denied use of the steam room/hammam unless paying 40 euros per person (again, contrary to what we were told and the brochure).

The place is absolutely stunning, things you can do are relax by the pool, soak in the jacuzzi, go for a long walk or for a bike ride. Restaurant options are indeed pricey but the whole experience is worth it. Breakfast should be included in the nightly price.

A five star resort located in a vineyard. The welcome reception was warm and welcoming. The service through out our stay was top notch, food and wine served in the restaurant were superb in quality. The vineyard and the walk in the forest was very enjoyable. A great place to let your body and mind relaxed. Highly recommended for a relaxing retreat vacation.

I was disappointed with this hotel and would not return.
At first glance it looks pretty enough - charming, elegant etc. The reception is cordial and efficient.
We had opted to stay in the Chateau le Thil - which also looked idyllic - tranquil and secluded. Our room was lovely.
However , after these first impressions things began to deteriorate. At Le Thil - they literally provide you with a room for the night and a very basic breakfast - and that’s it. No provision is made whatsoever for the guests to enjoy the outside space. 2 old wooden deck chairs under a tree and 4 rickety and uncomfortable metal tables and chairs on an untended and mostly inaccessible terrace . No outside lighting. Nowhere you can get a drink or a basic snack other than from your own minibar, which you must consume in your room. No TV - that’s OK if you can enjoy the outside space, but you can’t find anywhere to relax with a book.
You can cycle or drive to the main hotel. The facilities there are also well below par for a hotel in this price bracket. A small basic pool with insufficient space - 16 loungers and 4 umbrellas - and no way of getting a drink unless a waiter just happens to be doing his rounds ( sporadic) -otherwise you must schlepp through reception in your swimming gear towards the bar. There are more sunloungers outside the gated pool on the grass. Your wet feet get dirty from the soil .
The hotel doesn’t do snacks, afternoon tea etc. The ‘tapas’ bar sells only wine and cold nibbles

This property is very unique being that it is situated among the vineyard and across from Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte. Everything from the rooms to the grounds are absolutely great. Their restaurants are also excellent. The staff was also really helpful and courteous. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The only thing I would change is the way they run their spa... you cannot enter their spa unless you book a treatment with them, which I think is a bit harsh given how much we spent with them both for our nightly rate and our restaurant expenditures.

DECEIVING STAY

I'm writing to express my frustration with our stay during a recent anniversary trip. We were recommended your hotel by family friends and were very much looking forward to enjoying Les Source de Caudalie. Instead, we experienced extreme displeasure throughout our entire stay. I've never experienced anything like this in my life. When booking our stay, it's incredibly misleading through your online presence. We were under the impression we were staying at Les Source de Caudalie. Instead, we arrived to realize we were staying at another location, Chateau De Thil. Due to this, we were made to feel by the staff we were an inconvenience various times throughout our stay. I want to be very clear that it's hugely deceiving when people book through third-party websites. It appears as if you are staying at the main resort and only in fine print, scrolling down the email, does it say where your room is. I recommend you separate out Les Source De Caudalie from Chateau de Thil. It's NOT the same location and experience whatsoever.

Exceptionally beautiful hotel located in vineyard of Château Smith Haut Lafitte. The buildings are very attractive and the rooms and bathrooms comfortable. There are three restaurants Michelin starred La Grande Vigne, a more casual restaurant La Lavoir and a charcuterie wine bar. All are excellent. The hotel has an indoor and outdoor pool and a gym. The spa has a thalassotherapy style pool and steam room. There is a small farmyard with goats chickens and ducks. The Chateau has tasting rooms and a boutique. It is about 30 minutes from Bordeaux airport

I bit of staffing issues I think?
So don't expect to ever use the Spa!

Wonderful property, good service, great food but very lax communication and security as we had to move rooms during our stay to another property 1.5KM away. Now even-though they have cars, they dont provide a shuttle service between the properties..so you must walk or ride a bike. Now the bikes were all gone when we tried to visit the main site for breakfast. Also, when we checked into the 2nd property, there was no receptionist, no explanation how to enter the property ( our taxi had to call), the entrance to the property is wide open and in the end we found our room was open ( no security cameras either in the chateaux) with our luggage inside. We of course complained but to simply hear, \"oh sorry for that, we have never had a problem before\".

I found the staff friendly but very inflexible. Also I was quoted a lower rate for an additional night stay but when the bill came, they tried charging at a higher level..many nice things about the stay but still feel quite annoyed at the very poor attention to their guests needs who are still paying $500+ a night + wine+ food etc..Nothing was done to address the massive security issue i felt they exposed us to, also weak wifi throughout so working was a challenge.

This was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. If you are in Bordeaux you MUST stay here. Riding bikes around the chateau, relaxing in the beautiful rooms, drinking wine on the padio - and the SEVEN course dinner was amazing! I only stayed one night but will be saving my $$$ for more nights next time!! I LOVE this place!!

The hotel and the surrounding area are great, picture perfect, tasty with a lot of activities. Hotel staff is a little forgetful, - for example when asked to organise a wine tour they never bothered, when I asked to book hotel restaurant for a birthday party they said they did but on the night it turned out they didn't bother again. Make sure you chase them properly.

We arrived for our honeymoon on the 1st day they reopened after the holidays.
When we arrived, we were not given a tour of the property (it's quiet big), we weren't told about tours, or the restaurants, or the spa, etc. We knew about the indoor pool from photos but they said it was not open, which was weird.
Our room was nice, but not very private, and when we used the wifi, it didn't work.
I approached the front desk and told them about our privacy concerns and the internet and they told me that the person who deals with the internet is not there today.And they wouldn't switch our room. Wouldn't you assume on opening day, you'd have all the important people there?
The property was beautiful but every interaction with the staff was bad. By our 3rd day there, the pool was still not working and neither was the wifi.
We asked if we could use the spa pool and they said yes, but when we went there, they refused my entry saying I didn't have a reservation. I explained but she just said we're closing in an hour minutes and they were full.
I tried to stay positive, but after leaving the hotel I thought about how upset I was, so I wrote them saying it was a disappointing experience with the staff and not having amenities available. The director wrote back and said this was an isolated incident and offered us a room upgrade and dinner, which I thought was nice, but since we live in the US was useless. I asked if they could offer us something else- to which I never received a response.

Absolutely wonderful!

I had been hoping to visit for quite some time, following the posts on social media, drooling at the photos. It did not disappoint!
The surrounding area is stunning and you feel relaxed even before getting out of the taxi. 20 minutes from Bordeaux airport is the perfect distance.
The buildings are in good condition, and clean. There is enough of originality vs refurbished / looked after to look new.
Check in was quick, as was a quick tour of the amenities.
The food was exceptional - enhanced by the vegetable patch you can walk past, and the locally sourced ingredients. Dinner at La Grand'Vigne was absolutely wonderful, and a lovely treat. The service was very good, with the Sommelier topping the list - wonderful wine selection and knowledge!
We were lucky to have a ground floor room with a view of the vineyards. Breakfast outside listening to the birds was a lovely start to the day. The rain didn't dampen things, with the fresh smells and fresh air in the area. It is a perfect destination, no matter the weather!
The spa was again very relaxing and high standard spa treatments!
I would definitely recommend and return!!

Most of the reception desk staff were very pleasant, friendly and kind. The beautiful spa with its outdoor swimming pool was very nice for relaxation. Our room was spacious and cosy with a nice little patio. The indoor swimming pool is a very thoughtful idea for cold days.
The staff work hard to keep the property very appealing.
One very friendly and caring breakfast staff member made our breakfast service worth remembering. The mismatched floral designs of the crockery at breakfast made the hot beverages more colourful than usual.
The Rouge bar was conveniently open late.
The Table du Lavoir was chaotic when we went to dine. The staff were overwhelmed by the number of guests and thus stressed.
Overall, we ejoyed our very short stay at this beautfiul property.

Beautiful countryside hotel

When you think French beautiful countryside hotel, this is it. Our bedroom was in a remodeled barn with a small lake on one side and a vineyard on the other. The products in the bathroom are wonderful. The food is amazing. Lovely breakfast, delicious informal dining in the bistro and top quality dinner in the gastronomic restaurant. Truly deserving of their two Michelin stars.

Hotel was excellent. You get what you pay for. Check in is at 4pm if you plan on early check in be ready to pay half your nightly room rate.
Excellent service by the hotel staff.
Taxis do not show up quickly there so plan accordingly.

A Simply Perfect Boutique Bordeaux Hotel

I wish I could keep the secret to myself, but Les Sources De Caudalie is one of the most magnificent places I've ever stayed. Juliette was so incredibly helpful, all the staff are warm and friendly, the surroundings are beautiful, the rooms are elegant, the views are divine, and all the places to eat are wonderful. If you're looking for a decadent long weekend or week to get away with your significant other, Les Sources De Caudalie is the place.

Hotels.com did a nice bait and switch on us, costing us a lot of money. We booked it online for 1 price. Then we called the hotel while driving to it and were told that we were not at the main hotel but in a bed and breakfast a mile away. When we objected, the hotel told us that there were no available rooms. Only because my brother in law was persistent were we able to stay in the hotel. For the pleasure, we had to pay double what Hotels.com advertised the property for. Hotel was nice; service good; but bait and switch by Hotels.com was not cool. I won't use them again.

The hotel was good DESPITE the bait and switch by Hotels.com. We booked two rooms online for a total of about 750 Euro for ourselves and my sister and her husband. While we were driving to the hotel, my brother in law called the hotel for directions and was told that we were not booked in the main hotel but in a bed and breakfast about 1 mile away. That was not acceptable. It was only after my brother in law was nicely persistent did we get rooms in the main hotel -- the hotel was booked out for a conference apparently. As a result, we had to pay 330 Euro per night for our room and my sister had to pay 220 Euro per night for her room for a total of 1100 Euro instead of the 750 Euro we booked on Hotels.com. As a result, we will not book again through Hotels.com. It was false advertising at best.
As far as the hotel goes, the only two criticisms we have are: (1) the rooms are small for the price of the hotel; and (2) they turn the air conditioning off for the entire property starting in October -- so the room was hot and stuffy. We had to sleep with the door to the balcony open all night.

Wonderful resort on a vineyard

We were completely overwhelmed by how beautiful the resort was. We had seen the pictures, but they do not do justice to the beauty of the property. You're located amongst a vineyard (Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte) on a beautiful and wonderfully decorated property. The isolated resort is extremely peaceful and tranquil. The staff was excellent, and the on-site restaurants were wonderful. We really enjoyed our stay. You are a little distant from the city of Bordeaux, but that didn't take away from the experience.

Lovely hotel in beautifull setting .

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel very much but found the staff a little \" distant\". The first night we ate in the La Table Du Lavoir and found the food dissapointing. I had the confit of lamb with a slice of potato cake which I would not have served to my guests.! The second night we ate in the La Grande Vigne restuarant and had an excellent meal and gorgeous wine. The visit to Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte was also excellent.

Luxurious rustic retreat among Bordeaux vineyards

Small, gorgeous hotel with character in every wooden beam and a true gastronomic treat. Luxurious yet absolutely unpretentious. Speaking not a word of French was not an issue for us, nor for the multilingual staff. Most rooms open directly into the landscaped grounds and beyond, vineyards run to the horizon in every direction.

Unique hideaway.

Beautiful hotel in a fantastic location. Large rooms. Good overall service. Two small complains. 1 outdoor hot tub was not hot. 2 breakfast buffet was charged at the same rate as in room continental breakfast. A rip off in my opinion. They should at least advise of this prior. I paid almost 30 euro for coffee and a danish.Restaurant has good service and food was good. Avoid the pigeon !

Very quiet and comfortable. Two exellent restaurants. The steak is nice but they are trying to slice it off for you. It is getting cold. Better do it by yourself. Located in the centre of winery ( on of the best and expensive) with small lake and two swans. 20 min to Bordeaux center and 5 min to highway by car. You have to rent a car!

Excellent Tranquil Getaway In The Wine Country

This is a romantic destination about 20 minutes south of downtown Bordeaux and well worth the investment. The staff was attentive but a bit aloof. Food at the restaurants inside the facility were excellent. This hotel is surrounded by vineyards owned my Smith Haut Lafite. A great getaway. The \"king\" bed was actually two beds connected together and I found the mattress a bit hard on my back. Otherwise the room was well appointed and clean.

We came from Australia with limited knowledge of Bordeaux. We were surprised by how large a centre Bordeaux was, however our notions of the region were met once we arrived at La Sources de Caudalie. An absolutely breath taking and divine experience which will be remembered fondly for years to come. The dining, accommodation and surrounds were beyond the picture you could have in your mind of this region. Although expensive it is a worthwhile hit your credit card must take!

Correct mais décevant pour le prix.
Séjour au château du thil pour une nuit, l'endroit est calme et agréable.
Le parc du château est très beau et le cadre des sources de caudalie est magnifique.
L'accueil est chaleureux et le personnel très gentil, cependant quelques points négatifs : Pas de wifi, peu de personnel notamment au petit déjeuner du château du thil (1 personne pour la réception, cuisine, service), pas de produits Caudalie en chambre (trop de promotion autour du spa caudalie qui n'est absolument pas mis en avant dans les hôtels).
Tarifs du spa non justifié et fermé le dimanche après-midi (plus cher qu'a Paris pour les même prestations 168€ le soin du visage de 50min contre 105€ à Paris même).
Quelques imperfections de manière générale non acceptable pour un 5* dit \"Palace\".

Malheureusement l'emplacement ne fait pas tout.
