Overall great. It was a bit colder when we went. I wish they put heat lamps in outside seating areas in the evenings. I did ask and they put one but it needed time to heat up.

Fairy tale setting in Tuscany in a refurbished monastery. Very friendly staff. Easy to drive to nearby towns but definitely need a rental car. Wife got a massage and said it was the best one she ever had. Overall fantastic experience and would do it again.

The property was nice but the front desk reception staff was a bit rude. Didn’t explain any procedures to us when we arrived such as how to use the room key (not intuitive), when and how breakfast was served. Unable to get continental breakfast figured out for us after two tries (two mornings). No paper menu on the second day so we couldn’t order as we got in pretty late. Then they charged us €50 for room service because we didn’t fill out the form. What??

Spa services were a different story. They were amazing, accommodating, warm, friendly, nice, respectful. Best experience on the property bar far!

Lastly, I needed a few articles of clothing to get cleaned/laundered and they said they could take care of that. It appeared that afternoon in a pretty box and the clothes smelled so fresh. However, at checkout I was appalled to find a €315 bill for clothes cleaning. Come on! No way a half load of laundry cost that much to get clean! I take full responsibility for not asking more questions on the front end, but seriously. I’ll never go back or recommend this place for a stay to a friend. Spa services were amazing! Everything else wasn’t.

Stay was okay but was expecting more out of this resort, felt kind of stuck there with such a lack of activities compared to some other similar places, and the management takes advantage of this with price gauging at every F&B outlet which is short-sighted and not good for the place's reputation.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Castel Monastero! The whole staff was delightful - so thoughtful and attentive. We were there for 4 nights, ate breakfast at the hotel every morning, spent time by the gorgeous pool, had amazing massages, and overall just loved the experience! We booked a Prestige Room and it had an amazing view of the Tuscan countryside. The room, bathroom, and closet were a great size for the two of us - plenty of space! I would definitely come back here and sincerely want to thank the hotel staff for making our stay so special!

Nowhere near 5 star

The remote location was tranquil and much of the surrounding area stunningly beautiful. The hotel was smaller than it appears on the website, particularly the courtyard area, we booked a prestige room expecting something a bit special, what we got was a room poorly laid out and lacking any real charm.
Staff were polite and courteous but overall not making your stay special, the room had no outside space and due to being an old Monastery was dark inside, not much can be done about this, but an outside space could have easily been created.
We ate twice in the restaurant, normally there are two, but COVID reduced this to one, we understand the reasons, but no one told this before we turned up! The restaurant that served us was poor, the food was bland but at prices you would expect far better. When we ate out the standard was far higher and much better value.
It is difficult to know how much of the failings we experienced were down to COVID and how much was just how it was, probably somewhere in the middle. However this is not a 5 star hotel, it has 5 star prices but the overall experience is well below this.

Downside is the quality of food; the fine dining restaurant has pretenses but does not deliver at all.
The casual dining restaurant is in a beautiful spot and food is a bit better but not what one expects in a luxury Italian hotel.

The getaway of getaways in the Tuscan hills

I can't say enough about Castel Monastero. If I have to point out only one thing about the place, it's the SERVICE. From the minute we arrived, we experienced incredibly friendly and attentive service from everyone at the resort. The front desk was always aware of what we had going on; it's like they were a few steps ahead of us each time, in terms of what we needed.

Both the property and room itself were beautiful. Very traditional and stately, and with all the luxuries you'd hope for in a high-end room. Castel offers turn-down service every evening, laying out bath slippers and bringing you bottles of water, which is a nice touch.

The meals we ate at The Cantina were incredible, the included breakfast every morning was delicious and a great start to the day. It's a very relaxing experience all together. Although we visited at the end of the season (for New Years) and couldn't take advantage of the pool and lounge chairs, it was still lovely wandering the property and taking in the view.

I hope to come back sometime in the warmer months to enjoy Castel all over again!

Lovely locations near lots of beautiful towns and vineyards. The hotel staff were very helpful organising tours and telling us where was good to go. The Gordon Ramsey restaurant was very good. Disasppointed the spa was not included for hotel guests and the service at breakfast could have been better. Overall we would recommend it here.

The resort is beautiful! We stayed in the prestige suite and it overlooked the pool and back of the main castel. Only complaints are room service charge was $25 for them to bring like 6 crossaints and coffee, and they had already switched their systems to heat. It was definitely hot in the room, but we were staying on the second floor so we were able to open windows. Other guests we spoke to weren't so lucky on the main floor because they could hear people walking past their window and it kept asking them. Both restaurants were great and would definitely return and try the spa!

Wonderful hotel and staff but quite pricey

We stayed at Castel Monastero for 5 nights and had an amazing time; the staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was so relaxing with probably the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on and the food was incredible. My only criticism is some of the drinks and spa treatments are a little pricey; I understand it's luxury accommodation but I believe they could reduce these a little. However I would definitely recommend if your looking for a relaxing luxury break.

The hotel was wonderful! It's in a relatively quiet area in the Siena countryside. It can be a little difficult to find but the staff at Castel Monastero were kind enough to email us the directions the night before our arrival. The service was superb, the staff were incredibly attentive.

This is a beautiful hotel, with lovely, helpful staff... there is just one thing. The walls are paper thin. We could hear our neighbours snore, sneeze, open and close doors etc. it was really strange for a five star hotel not to have this feature.

Not Quite Perfect Yet

First off, the resort is absolutely beautiful. Whoever was in charge of the remodel did an amazing job, especially considering the resort is over 1,000 years old.

A few complaints would be that beds were very hard and lagged behind the other similar caliber hotels we stayed at throughout Europe on our honeymoon. The walls were very thin so don't expect to sleep in. Also, the wifi might as well be non-existent with speeds reminiscent of 1998.

Our biggest complaint was customer service. First off, we were there on honeymoon. This was the only hotel (we stayed at 6 others on our journey) that didn't do anything for our honeymoon - they didn't even congratulate us! When we first arrived, we went to the pool and ordered a bottle of rose. After 45 minutes of no rose, we told the bartender to cancel our order. During checkout, we called to have our luggage brought down (hotel has no elevators) and our rental car brought up front, giving them an hour to do so while we ate breakfast. Long story short, it took almost 2 hours and I had to check in multiple times with the bellman and front desk where no apologies were given.

The breakfast and breakfast serving staff were a highlight and it was the best hotel breakfast we had on our trip. We did try Cantina - don't waste your money. Food & drink is twice as much as any of the local restaurants and half as good.

Overall, could be an absolute gem with a few tweaks to the room and a lot of tweaks to the food and customer service

Amazing place to stay. We spent a part of our honeymoon here and were upgraded to one of the best rooms available overlooking the pools. Restaurants were greet with Cantina dinner in the garden courtyard under the stars a highlight each night. Definitely recommend this place.

Generally good - attractive setting, lovely pool etc - but disappointing that we were placed in incorrect room (inferior to that which we had booked) and the hotel had not noticed this (? hoped that we would not either?!) until we double-checked our booking details ourselves and brought it to their attention; that said the difference in the cost was refunded to us and the 'inferior' room was still very pleasant. We ate in both restaurants - very expensive and although very nice not worth these prices. Decent breakfast. Poor wifi.

Fantastic hotel in Tuscany, beautiful rooms; superb service and great food - only downside is you need to pay an additional surplus to use the swimming pool in the spa, however this isn't charged if you book a spa treatment. Without doubt I will be returning to this hotel!

Rooms are wonderfully designed and the grounds are
breathtaking. Food is top notch and a wonderful breakfast
buffet is included. 3 Black bottom pools are spectacular!
the spa is lovely but the treatments are very expensive.
Only problem is there is a glitch with their address on the GPS
it takes you to a different hotel - they are aware- ask them for
a different location to put into your GPS

(Type of food on offer - tripe, rabbit, sweetmeats etc - too much offal for our liking!) Otherwise, great place to stay and for visiting both Florence and Sienna. We will be back!

Amazing but a bit overpriced

First of all, the setting is spectacular, no doubt about that. Getting there is fairly easy and the staff is great. The setting can't be praised enough; it's truly magnificent. My only complaints are the food and the size of the room. I feel like the food at La Cantina should be improved upon. It's not bad, but in a 5 star hotel, it should be better. And the rooms are quite small for $800 a night. In addition to that, there's a €50 fee to enter the wet spa, which is unheard of (in my experience at Four Seasons hotels, for example). I'd recommend this to other travelers as long as they are aware of the aforementioned.

Very friendly staff all the way from check in to check out. Spacious comfortable rooms. Good food - Gordon Ramsey menus - and good wine list. Excellent pool facilities. Very relaxing - and cooler - for for us after the heat (41 deg C) and hustle/bustle of Rome (about 2 hrs away). Siena about 15mins drive from hotel.

Relax in Tuscany

Castel Monastero is a beautiful hotel and spa with fabulous service. The staff are extremely friendly and go out of their way to provide everything you need. Can't speak for all rooms but ours was stunning and extremely quiet. Fabulous large bed, great linen, lovely lounge area and an amazing bathroom with bath and walk-in shower with plenty of high pressure hot water. I only have two negatives for the hotel. Firstly, the two restaurants were extremely quiet. I don't mind intimate but there lacked any atmosphere owing to how quiet they were. Not sure why, but the hotel (in mid June) seemed extremely quiet, especially at night. The second point I feel more strongly about. I find the prices for both restaurants to be unrealistically high for the quality of the food. Don't get me wrong, the food is nice and I am happy to pay through the nose for the very best but sadly this is far from that and the prices simply do not reflect the standard well enough. Aside from this for a couple of nights it was stunning. Afraid I cannot comment on the spa as it was fully booked whilst we were there - again I found this strange since the rest of the hotel was very quiet. I would hope this didn't represent limited capacity should the hotel be busier. Would recommend booking treatments before you arrive.

Doesn't get any better than this

A little tricky to find because of the address, but once you figure out it's in Colonna del Grillo and not really Castelnuevo Berardenga, you're golden. It's probably 2-3 minutes (2 miles or less) off the main road going from Arezzo to Sienna, so it's very easy to use this property as a home base for day trips to all the hill towns, as well as Siena. Fab-u-lous is the only way to describe this 5-star property in a beautiful, quiet, calming setting that looked like a small village. We didn't have time to try their spa, but it was as amazing as the property itself. Our room was outfitted with every comfort we could have dreamed up - it was easily as good as our master suite at home. They took care of us like family. If you've ever stayed at Blackberry Farm in Tennessee, this was a similar experience - when you'd go down to dinner, they'd come in, clean up your room, turn the television to classical music and put the lighting on. Everything was perfect. Thank you, Castel Monastero!

No pillow top we slept on top of a wooden door 🚪

There was no pillow top in our bed ! The mattress was hard so hard like I never tried before in my life ! This is a five star hotel ( the leading hotels of the world ) we pay absurd price to stay in a luxury prestige suite ! We wanted to sleep in a proper five stars bed I have lots of problems with carp túnel síndrome and I came here looking for some more comfortable bed to feel better … wa so possible to sleep ! I have severe pain in all my both arms and back ! seems a bad joke ! this is the first time in my life ( I always stay in hotels five stars ) with no pillow top and no comfort I slept on top of a wooden door ! don’t come to this hotel ! I’m crying of pain !

El lugar se encuentra lejos y apartado de todo no te ofrecen nada de actividades y te están vigilando todo el día los horarios de los restaurantes no son flexibles y no hay nada cerca de la propiedad para salir a comer. Los de recepción te dan un horario de los restaurantes y llegas al restaurant y dicen que está cerrado. La limpieza de las habitaciones deja mucho que desear. La propiedad es muy bonita y podría estar mucho mejor y para el precio que pagas se me hace que no es una experiencia que lo valga

Das Castel liegt auf einem Hügel mit schönem Blick über die Landschaft. Die historischen Gebäude sind einzigartig und sehr gut instand. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend - von der Rezeption bis zum Housekeeping! Die Zimmer sind geräumig mit sehr schönen, großen Badezimmern. Das Mobiliar ist in die Jahre gekommen und aus vielen Stilen zusammengesetzt. Die Preise für Getränke sind vollkommen überteuert (16 Euro für ein Glas Wein; 5 Euro für ein (Discount) 0,25 l Wasser). Die eigenen Cocktails sind sehr gelungen und die Lounge im Innenhof ein toller Ort für einen Drink nach dem Dinner!

Flot hotel og lækkert værelse som rummet alt man har brug for. Lækkert poolområde, men manglende god service og stemning ved poolområdet. På værelse var der ikke kaffemaskine eller gratis vand dagligt, som jeg ville forventede for den type hotel og standard.

Service var god og dejlig mad. Eneste mulighed er dog en Michelin anerkendt restaurant - så bliver hurtigt meget fint og dyrt alternativ til middag hverdag.

Samlet set var vi tilfreds med opholdet og det lå virkelig flot, men manglende lige det sidste touch for at leve 100% op til vores forventninger.
