Room was clean and well appointed though the shower was a little tricky for us middle-aged westerners - sorry! Absolutely amazing view of the castle. I wished we had asked or been made aware of the hotel amenities upon check in because there were a few we should have taken advantage if. The bell captain was amazing! And the shuttle to the station a big plus. Will def keep this hotel in mind for future trips.

This hotel is centrally located as the bus is across the street as well as Nijo Castle. Mornings you could walk the perimeter.

Nearby local type shops like a coffee shop to eat, noodle spot, konbini, and can walk to Nishiki Market. Along the way to Nishiki, there will be local restaurants to eat so you can dodge the touristy types if u want.

Staff are extremely helpful. Luggage travel service was great. Used the laundry service to save time. It was well done as well as each day our room was serviced nicely. The slippers were really comfy.

We had a triple bed room with good space compared to others. Enough outlets, refrigerator, coffee station, water pot, hair dryer. Room was a bit stuffy as I couldn’t get AC to cool the room down even with the humidifier/purifier on.

Everything was great. The staff was one of the most polite and helpful staffs I have ever experienced at a hotel. It helped make our trip to Kyoto Japan even more enjoyable and memorable. I will plan to stay there again if future plans take me to Kyoto Japan.

The room we stayed in had great amenities and aesthetically beautiful. It had rounded ceilings, built in mirror frames that blended seamlessly with the walls and stunning lighting to highlight all these details. Definitely one of the more interesting places we’ve recently stayed at. Would book again.

The customer service was amazing, staff was very friendly and the hotel is close to the train and bus routes. Loved being close to Nijo Castle and short bus ride to everywhere else. The hotel itself is very outdated. Decor seems very 80/90s but the rooms were spacious and lots of toiletry options.

Overall our stay was not bad. The first night right after checking in, we found a bug in the bed. The front desk was kind enough to upgrade us to a suite for no extra charge. Aside from that, Breakfast was not included. Everything was about 15-30 mins train ride from the hotel. It was a very local area to stay in. Nice view of the Nijo-ji temple.

Ana Crown Plaza Hotel is located in a quite area and is not far from Kyoto main train station. We like this lovely hotel because the friendly and knowledgeable of Bell Captains- answered our questions and provided great recommendations of places to visit and the hotel is neat and provides great breakfast buffet. Moreover, the majestic Nijo Castle is just cross street of the hotel.

Pool is big and warm but the steps into it are like bars so not good if you have mobility issues

We didn’t get an explanation of the amenities at the hotel so we didn’t use them. We asked about them, even my second guest asked about them, and were informed we’d have to go to each amenity space to find out more. This is a deal breaker since my guest is physically disabled!!

Also, the room we were in seemed really old, carpet in the bathroom old, which meant that it also smelled really old and didn’t come with any handicap additions for my second guest. Were a little surprised it’s marked as a 4 star hotel, when the previous 3 star hotel we had just stayed in provided a more luxurious experience.

I spent 2 nights and rented 3 rooms for my Aunt, Uncle and cousin. My uncles room unfortunately did not have good heating and was freezing inside the room. The staff was able to get a heater for the room but it’s wasn’t enough to significantly heat the room. Being next to the castle was nice but dining options around the area is somewhat limited unless you want to dine at the expensive restaurants in the hotel.

This is not a four star property. It is a one star property. The first room was something out of Skid Row. Filthy carpet and worn furniture reeking of smoke. The staff will not help you and will ignore you if you complain about the smoke citing fully booked. Only when Expedia escalations got involved, did they finally move me and my child to a better room. However, the room was still periodically filled with smoke due to an unenforced smoking policy. For two rooms for a family, we changed rooms seven times in a four day period. Avoid being on the 4th floor since the ventilation is shared third floor which is the smoking floor. The staff is unhelpful and unkind. They treated us like trash even though we paid $2k for our rooms. Horrid place.

Known Hotel in a nice area of Kyoto. Hotel is older and could use an upgrade in the future. I asked for a non smoking room however the room smelled like smoke, especially in the Bathroom. I mentioned it to the hotel and they commented the smoking floor was a couple of levels below me so the smoke/smell must be coming up the vent from below. Shower/Tub could use a deep clean.

Fairly spacious room, albeit slightly dated. Really close to multiple bus transit routes, making it easy to get around. The hotel is located a less than 5min walk from Niko Castle, and around a 20min walk from Nishiki Market.

I don’t know why recent reviews were poor. The hotel staff were very polite and helpful. The foyer area is beautiful and has a welcoming piano bar and restaurants. Our room was large with enough space for 3 people and a big bathroom. The motel is across the road from Nijo castle and there is a steady stream of taxis taking guests into downtown Kyoto. Definitely worth a look.

At check-in the staff ignore me until a kind lady arrived and asked them to check me in.
I was jet leg and arrived at breakfast at 0940am, 20min before closure. At 10:10am, a rude waiter went around telling everyone they were closed.
Otherwise the staff were courteous. I won’t stay there again. Nor would I recommend anyone to stay there.

Location is primary and hotel is beautiful and so was so clean and refreshing. Everyone was so helpful and accommodating. On my down side are the Japanese beds, very firm and uncomfortable. Showers and tubs are older. Ten view Was incredible, we stayed overlooking Nijo Castle, very easy to navigate and have a comfortable home base!

A cool choice in Kyoto

This is a clean hotel with full amenities. Its location is close to the subway station and various tourist attractions in Kyoto. There is a shuttle bus to Kyoto Station. The breakfast is filled with high-quality ingredients and a mix of Western and Japanese cuisine. If you need to check out of the hotel before the restaurant opens, don’t forget to ask the hotel to prepare a snack box for you. You will be surprised by the grandeur of the snack box here. If you are looking for accommodation, this is a very good option.

I informed the front desk but their solution was to put a fan in the room which really did not help the situation.
Being from Canada, I am not used to sleep in a hotel room at 25.5C.

Only two floors were renovated, not all. And of course, we were put in the ones that were not. So, I talked to the manager and they switched us, but charged us more. I argued that didn’t make any sense.
Their “Sky Bar” is an unfinished rooftop with grass color plastic carpet, a few plastic white tables and 3 plants. The view is nice though.

Thanks for the hotel gave me a room with the fantastic view of Niko castle. However, there was a sort of noise we could not find where it came from. The hotel kindly offered another room. Reception desk and catering services are also kind and helpful. Breakfast is superb. The facilities of gust rooms which I experienced are old, but the bed is comfortable. We booked on hotels.com and expected an updated two bed non smoking room. When we were checked in (visibly pregnant and with a child) we were given a room on the smoking floor that was so overwhelming Smokey we asked to be moved. The Smokey room and the room were moved to were on the lower floors and were no renovated. They were about 40 years out of renovation. In addition there was an additional fee for the pool and was just for lap swimming.

If this hotel was in the US it would be a motel. They have shut down their bar and the whole ambiance is depressing.

Nice hotel near a metro stop and right across from Nijo Castle. Rooms were comfortable and breakfast every morning was very nice and convenient. We did have a 12 year old staying with us in our room and there was some confusion. They charged us for an additional adult in our room (totally fine) but didn't give him a breakfast coupon so the adults were able to have free breakfast but the child had to pay. Seemed odd. Also had to pay for use of the pool. And the lobby bar closed at 9pm which might be customary in Japan but surprised us. Other than that, we loved the location and amenities.

Staff at reception rude on arrival. room very dated with carpet in bathroom. Spa facilities were paid extra for but the bottom of the pool was rusty, hot spa was broken and leaking on the floor, really disappointing would not had paid if seen before. breakfast was good quality and filling. feels like a place that had its prime a few decades ago and would have been very grand then but needs a serious refurb especially as it asks for a higher price than other hotels because of the pool (which was then extra even for 5 year old and in terrible condition)

I'm confused as to how this hotel is rated 4 stars. The rooms were dirty/dusty/moldy, the decor was old and worn, and the bed mattresses sagged. The aircon never lowered the room temp below 23.5 even with the thermostat set to 20. Listening to the pipes rattle in walls at night which was the only way to drown out the noise from guests in other rooms. We were charged to use the pullout couch. We were charged you to use the pool, which requires swim caps. None of the pictures on Expedia showed the reality of the room we had. The lobby is gorgeous however, so maybe that's how they get that extra star or two. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, but they can't really help to change the quality of the ancient mattresses, the smell of cigarette smoke in the hallways, or the charges for the pool/fitness area. There was a power-strip attached haphazardly to the bedside table which had burn marks on it. I asked one front desk member where to go for ramen for dinner, and he had no suggestions other than the hotel restaurants which were not family friendly. Maybe the staff is rusty from three years of lockdown, but it seemed to me that although they were friendly, they weren't empowered to improve the guest experience. This is at best an overpriced budget hotel with a stunning lobby. Completely the opposite of our experience at the ANA Crowne Plaza Sapporo. I will ask about when the room was last refurbished/remodeled before I stay at an ANA property again. Sadly disappointed.

Location was very good. Next to the castle. Subway was near-by. Room was spacious.
However, room was not very clean. The drawer knobs were dusty. Imagine, in this covid days you would expect these to be cleaned and disinfected all the time. But they had collected dust for many days.
The worst thing was breakfast line. The first day they said 40 minutes wait!!! We were shocked. It was similar the rest of our stay. They should do something about their breakfast service.

Hotel located in excellen area with easy access to several key Kyoto attractions either by walking or public transit. Very professional staff. Although hotel lobby and restaurants are beautiful, the hotel exterior and room are in need of an upgrade. Everything is clean and well maintained but it feels like stepping back in time to the 1990s. Some plastic fixtures had turned from white to yellow while others were showing signs of degration leading to pieces flaking off.

All in all, a decent hotel that would benefit from jumping to the 21st century
