The hotel room were very nicely renovated - clean and pacify. my room had a huge king size bed. you could sleep 4 people in it. Also a very nice desk and work startedtionElectrical outlets everywhere. Great AC, refrigerator, microwave, The location is great. you can walk to all of the major sights in the city. 3 minute walk to some of them. The main area to visit along the river is only a 15- minute brisk walk.McDonalds across the street Delili, the receptionist,was a delightfully helpful source of source of information for me. Very reasonably priced hotel.

The room smelled awful, the bed linens were dirty, the pillows smelled disgusting like stale sweat, lots of mosquitos were in the room and bit us all night so we couldn't sleep. There was no hand soap. We left at 3 am as I was getting sick in the room due to the moldy smell.

I had stayed previously at this hotel and the room was clean and the linens were fresh so that's why I booked it again but this time the room was awful and smelly.

Angithi at the front desk is very kind and nice. I was out of cash; the nearby cash machines were obviously out of service; and not even McDonald’s accepts foreign credit cards.

Angithi gave me her last money to buy a meal. Of course I paid her back… but that’s beyond the point: I am extremely thankful for this ray of sunshine in a country where most people were not very friendly to the only tourist / white person walking around

Staff needs training

When I first stayed here in November 2024, I found the Spanhoek to be a reasonable cheaper alternative to the Palacio: rooms well-kept, housekeeping efficient, and relatively quiet at night despite its location at a busy intersection.

This time, things were different: due to Emancipation Day celebrations, it was very noisy during the day and at night, with noise levels also affected by activity at the casino across the road. The cheaper price tag also seems to have attracted a lower-end clientele, with excessive noise coming from nearby rooms at all hours. Housekeeping was in disarray: sometimes I had to ask for towels, and every day I had to ask for toiletries, even though I had clearly run out. Supplies would come in drinks and drabs over the course of the day (and evening), and my room was cleaned at random times during my stay (or not at all). Though well-meaning, the housekeeping staff found it very difficult to communicate with me (and I with them) due to the language barrier. Overall, the Spanhoek needs to sharpen up its game.

really nice and convenient. Only thing was not pleasing is that the place need better cleaning and sanitation since mosquitoes was around and in the room. And the could add breakfast etc since the are no on site meals but that was solved since the are lots of food places around. I did enjoy that its easily accessible to shopping, site seeing etc

A surprising little gem of a hotel

I made a hurried reservation because I had a major change of plans. When I got to the hotel, although the entrance was a bit hard to find, i was warmly welcomed by the receptionist. Everything was registered and check in was a breeze. I was tired, drained and worn out after hours of driving. The receptionist was truly a sight for sore eyes.
The room was very clean, the water was hot and therapeutic and the AC was nice and cold. The bed, although a bit squeaky, was comfy enough for me to fall asleep instantly.

offers excellent value for the price. The location is fantastic—situated in a good area and close to everything. The supermarket is just a 5-minute walk away, which is really convenient.

Another great thing is the daily housekeeping service, which keeps the rooms clean and well-maintained every day. Overall, it’s a great value for the money, and I highly recommend it to everyone!

Great value for money

A nice hotel, centrally located near shops and places to eat. Well fitted-out with everything you would need for a few days' stay. It gets a bit noisy during the day because it is on a busy intersection, but at night it is quiet enough.

Room conditioner not cold. The cleaner failed giving replacement towel. She failed resupply the room tea bags. 1 day she left the new bed sheet let me handle it. I paid extra @US$12.50 x 5 for breakfast, only the first 4 days the coffee shop open. On the 5th day my day of to check out, the coffee shop not open. I did not have my final breakfast. I now request a refund of US$12.50 credit to my cr card.

The property is an old and run down. I couldn’t understand why it had a rating of over 7. But once there I realized that very few North Americans stay there. So it is more like a 2 by North American standards. Also, the only place to eat nearby is McDonald’s. Next time I go to Suriname I will stay at the Radison or the Marriott. Their location alone makes the difference. Lots of restaurants near them.
Wish I had known this before. Oh well.

Breakfast is extraordinary Annia from the personnel at the restaurant is really great. I stayed there for two weeks the last two days AC was malfunctioning and it was not fixed. The offered change the room but that was a bit of a hassle. Highly recommended for extended stays.

Aside from the construction that caused us to forfeit our second night and find a different hotel, the building was beautiful. I look forward to seeing the completed construction because it is certain to be magnificent. The rooms were very clean and very nice. We did not get to experience the dining area or any other parts of the building but the rooms that we slept in we’re very nice. And of course the staff was fantastic which has always been my experience in Suriname. There are lots of places to walk to around the hotel. I love that there is an elevator to make it much easier to carry heavy luggage upstairs. I gave the hotel five stars even though we left because I can tell that the property is very very nice and when the construction is finished, it’s going to be magnificent.

The rooms smelt like urine upon arrival. The bed was very firm and was not a king size, it was two double beds which were joint. There are no restaurants or entertainment close by and the hotel does not seel food and drinks. The breakfast was nothing special and the kitchen was closed by 9am. We informed the hotel of our 3am checkin and when we got there had to knock on the door for 20 minutes before the security came from wherever they were to let us in.

Le vol retardé nous sommes arrivées tard à l'hôtel vers 01 ou 02h00 du matin.
Une fois en chambre, nous avons constatés qu'il manquait deux serviettes (2 alors qu'il s'agit d'une chambre pour 4) et cela dans chacune des deux chambres réservées. Après réclamation l'employé nous a informé ne pas avoir accès à la pièce où sont disposés les serviettes.
Le lendemain l'information n'a pas été relayée, étant sur le départ nous avons fait avec, se n'est pas normal.
Le climatiseur toujours très sale, des tâches sur les draps, la salle de bain pas très propre et un petit tapis servant pour la sortie de douche et les toilettes.

La chambre a été refaite il me semble mais la chambre est communiquante. La télé est mal placé dans la chambre à côté on entend tout.
Le personnel se trouvant dans l'office parle fort le matin si la climatisation est éteinte car elle.un drole de bruit tu es réveillée en sursaut. Pas de cintres pour le linge

Hotel ligt lekker in het centrum. Maar van buiten ziet het er mooier uit dan van binnen.
Toilet stonk en de badkamer muur zat vol met vlekken van lekkages.
Toiletmat was van een oude handdoek.
