Very disappointing

This is the first negative review I have ever done. The first room I was in had a broken fridge, a broken air conditioner and was not clean. I asked to be moved. The second room had a broken toilet and broken tv. I asked for them to be fixed and was told that this was a bad hotel, I should expect things like this. I fixed the toilet myself. The room was dirty and unmaintained. The shower curtain and bathroom walls had mould everywhere, and the sleeping area had filthy walls, mould and humidity pealing paint. If you are asthmatic stay away from this place. There was one helpful person at the front desk.

Arrived 5 minutes before 2pm check in time and they said you have to wait until 2pm to checkin!
Breakfast photos are all over their website, however they no longer offer breakfast. Which has always been free with your accommodation as I’ve stayed there multiple times over the past 12 years.

If you're just looking for a super cheap accommodation, this is good enough. However, that is about the only thing you'll get. Front desk service is...pretty lousy (guy isn't very friendly, and basically doesn't do anything). Room is not exactly the cleanest (there was a cockroach in my room on L4, which we got rid of ourselves and didn't see anymore thereafter, BUT STILL). The dressing table was a little dusty, but I just wiped it down with my own wet tissue. Wardrobe door is a little creaky. One thing to also note - the electricity in the room goes out once you leave the room (remove the key from the wall plug) so the fridge switches off, which means anything you try to chill - does not continue chilling.

Overall, not recommended unless your #1 priority is cost.

Be careful with this hotel not recommended

I have been to this hotel in years past it was wonderful they changed owners and I would not recommend it at all. 5 days in the hotel they did not make the room once didn't take the trash out it started piling up. At the end of the stay they charged me $25 for checking out half hour late. The staff is unacceptable at best. I would advise everybody to look very carefully as to rent in this hotel. It was a couple rooms where people didn't spend the night and I'm not sure exactly what was going on other than they used it for an hour and left you make the decision what they were doing.

The overall condition was fine. The hygiene in the room and property was not bad, given that most places in the city were dirty. Wifi was a little bit slow. Quality of breakfast was ok but I wish the service could extend to 9:30, with more variety of food. Staff were friendly and helpful to arrange a local tour to Cu Chi Tunnel; the tour was great with the introduction by a guide of South Vietnamese veteran. The location was good because it is at the centre of the city but not too close to the pub area, where is more noise and dirty.

AVOID THIS PLACE

They came in my room two different days when I had the do not disturb sign posted. Room was very hot. A/C did not work but they have a disgusting dirty fan. They offer laundry service and charge 5x the posted prices when you check out. The elevator takes OVER 20 minutes and VERY HOT. Hairs everywhere. They must never clean. Much better hotels right next door and across the street. Avoid this dump. They serve rice for breakfast and untoasted bread with no butter. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!

You get what you pay for.

The WiFi connection was bad like 14.4 dial up bad. The a/c took awhile to startup, this is one of those places where you had to stick in a key card to power up everything once you leave you have to take out the key. There are11 floors but the elevator only went up 10 stories, guess what floor we were on 😂. You get what you pay for, it only cost me $15/night but I would gladly pay more to be more comfortable, there are tons of hotels in the same area for $10 to $15 more per night that will be a stellar stay compared to what experienced at Cityview.

Good clean quiet room. Wifi not to fast but available. Comfortable bed and bedding. Basic Vnamese breakfast included. Most hotels in Vietnam have a step in tub with flexible shower spray. This tub needs some anti slip mat as it was very slippery. Area is walking distance to Tao Dan and 23/9 parks and Ben Thanh market. Co- op supermarket at end of street for all your grocery needs. Good value for money and I will stay here again as I like this area.

First time in Vietnam

10- min walk from Backpacker street. The hotel is set on a quiet street. There is also a huge COOP supermarket 5 min. away. Upon check in, some Viet hotels will request you to leave your passport at the reception, just insist on keeping your own passport and they will not keep it.The breakfast buffet is great to start off the day with vegetable and fruits. The hotel doesn't provide any water machine which is a big flaw to us since we don't drink from any plastic bottle, we bring our own bottle to be more eco-friendly.

Exceeded my expectations

This hotel is cheap, meaning very affordable but the room is very clean and cozy. I was planning to stay there for a night but after a night, I felt really comfortable and relaxed, so I booked for another night. They also has a free breakfast though it's not really a good breakfast atleast they have free breakfast! They only serve pho, rice, egg, brewed coffee, bread and jam, and orange juice. :)

Also, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The guy at the front desk (his shift is on the night time), he was really nice and helpful. I like him very much.

Second stay here. Unpretentious hotel get quiet room at rear with windows. Bed firm clean bathroom but have to step into high bathtub to use shower. Breakfast is OK if you choose Vietnamese options but poor for western food.

We stayed here for 28 nights and the staff were helpful and friendly, informative and professional. Room was spacious, clean and shower was nice. The buffet breakfast was good and the food was new every day. The hotel owner is very nice and beautiful lady. We have change to talk and eat with her many time. They just open the foot massage, just $8(173K VND) for 90 minutes, you cannot find any other place with good service and low price for massage. If you want to eat the food, just ask the staff and they will go buy the food for you. The kitchen’s staff will cook any food when we request and we can eat anytime. I also drinking and talk with the staff and people stay at the hotel many time after 10:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Thanks to all the staffs and customers at Hoang Lien Hotel. We travel many time in the past and stay at 4 or 5 start hotels, but this 2 start hotel is unforgettable. We will come back again. I know many perilous customer keep come back and stay at this hotel, because the staff so nice.

Hotel location not bad but the rooms we requested were not fulfilled, and the restaurant was hot and stuffy with no aircon. We requested for suite room but was given normal room and on top of that the aircon is not even working well. The experience was far off from the image you all promoted and should not be charging such a high rate. The hotel differs from photos and facilities were not fully equipped as stated.

positives: clean room, good space for one person, clean large bathroom, strong shower pressure, room is brightly lit despite no window, clean towels, big bed. Located near Tao Dan Park which leads to the Reunification Palace. Nice walk.

Negatives: location is quite a distance fr Ben tanh market, crossing the road is an adventure itself as traffic is very bad. This hotel claims to give \"free bottle water\" but i was told it was only for the first day (the first time for me..). Flying cockroach landed on me at breakfast. I told the staff she just laughed. Reception staff needs to smile and be friendlier. There aren't many things to do near the hotel especially if u travel alone. The \"satelliteTV channels\" stated on hotels.com were all local channels. Thank god for free wifi!

hotel did supply enough cold air with an A/C and a fan as Ho Chi Minh city is extremely hot this time of year. Wi-Fi adequate. flat screen provided but remote did not work and staff could not get it to work even after replacing batteries. also the TV reception was inadequate at best, could not get English speaking channels clearly. Vietnamese channels came through ok. bathroom facilities ok and the room had adequate desk facilities. I got a discount price through expedia and that eased the pain somewhat. the advantage of this hotel is that it is close to the Saigon river.

Nice Hotel with the perfect location

We got what we paid for. It was a good hotel with good service and nice, polite employees. We staid for 9 days and had a good holiday without any problems at all.
Near to a big park where we walked every morning at 0700 a clock. The park was full of people every morning exercising all different kind of things.

Handy to most things. Don't expect any frills, not even water or tea bags! Book tours with care and do not use the hotel taxi booking easy to get one outside even for the airport trip. Some staff a lot friendlier and more helpful than others. After 4 weeks travelling in Vietnam it was hard to actually like this city, not as pleasant or as safe as other big cities visited. Will give it a miss next trip.

The hotel is overall okay but the bodyguard's attitude is not so friendly. I went to the hotel by my bike. When I left my bike for the bodyguard, I asked him to give me the ticket but he said the hotel does not have the ticket. I felt unsafe hence I asked the receptionist whether I can have the ticket. Eventually they gave me the ticket but they looked unhappy. I felt uncomfortable about that.

Booked 4 rooms with them and they only had 1 room to offer my uncle. They claimed that something was wrong with their online system hence they didn't keep the other 3 rooms for us. They moved us to the hotel beside it as a result(probably same owner), the rooms were clean and alright, decent place. My uncles says that the Hoang Lien room is much better. I am annoyed with their reservation system but the service is good.

Great hotel for the price!

We stayed at Hoang Lien Hotel for 5 nights while visiting Ho Chi Minh City. The hotel staff was wonderful. They were all very friendly and accommodating. Our first night we were upgraded to a VIP room, which was awesome. Unfortunately, we only had it for the one night and then were transferred to a different room set up for three people. My only complaints regarding the room were that the beds were very hard (seems to be a common theme in Southeast Asia) and very close together. There wasn't a whole lot of room for three people in that room, but we made it work.

The hotel serves breakfast every morning and it was pretty good. They also have a deal with a tour group that is pretty good. We booked the Mekong Delta tour and it was amazing! I also recommend you book your transfers between the airport and hotel through the hotel as it's a good bit cheaper than getting a taxi.

The street could be a bit noisy at night. The area is very nice and we felt safe the entire time we were there. It's about a 15 minute walk to the market and a 50,000 dong taxi to Dong Khoi, so very conveniently located. We would definitely stay here again!

the front steps is too high for traveller with many luggage like us,but the door man have job to do then.I like most every thing in the room,like 4 stars hotel to me. The buffet area a little small, with those staff not much friendly faces. The front desk staffs is ok,and so those door men.This hotel a little far form Benthanh market, also far to those Halah restaurants, so why not find some other hotel the same rate and closer to those convenient places.First night i order food to the hotel restaurant, they said the chef was left at3pm, so they willing to order for us to the next door restaurant,after a few of the list i want include 2 thing that the hotel staffs could manage to make themselves for us , and i thought total of 4 kind of food ,waiting.. they finally only brought for us the 2 thing that they make themselves,with the no idea face,that i was expect more than just omelettes and lemon juices, and the same girl i was older with on the phone, no smiling! maybe misunderstand or don't care.

Fantastic location, as we could walk to all main attractions. Facility was satisfactory. Breakfast was decent, with Vietnamese noodle soup or basic Western style eggs, toast, fruit, etc. Biggest complaint was that the staff lost our request for airport pickup so we were left waiting a while before getting our own taxi. But otherwise, pleased with the hotel.

Was prefect for us. We stayed a couple nights, then went back and stayed there again after going to Can Tho. Very central, near all attractions. Taxis are about £1 wherever in the center if you don't want to walk. Good wifi. Very clean, comfortable etc. Staff extremely friendly and the guy that opens the door for you was lovely!! Looked after our luggage for us while we went into Can Tho and let us check out late for no charge when we had a late bus. Organised various trips and journeys for us which after doing it yourself for a couple months was refreshing! Definitely recommend. Lovely hotel.

This is a very small hotel with a tiny lift but it all works. Breakfast was included in the nightly fee. this hotel serves an abundant dishes for breakfast but not warm enough even in the warmer i.e. the noodle. otherwise the food is terrific. keep up with this. Another suggestions for Hotel Management, the early check-out at hotel even before the breakfast served at 7:00a.m. should get some credit from the hotel i.e.4.00a.m.. We have been checking out early lately to catch the flight at the airport and have not getting early breakfast because it was not ready.

Hotel very clean, in central location. Room adequate, we booked a room with no window, aircon and fan worked well, wifi in room good. Wanted to order room service, was told one day it finished 20.00hrs, the following day was told, 17.00hrs, neither managed room service. Restaurant again no one really new what hours it was open, we went down to eat dinner at 18.00hrsto be to.d the chef had left at 17.00hrs, but they could order from another hotel... Breakfast you need to be early as it is not replenished and there six a very limited choice.

The hotel room was tidy and clean but very small - too small really for two travelers with big suitcases. Bathroom was good although the shower frequently flooded the bathroom floor. Breakfast great for Asian guests - not so varied for Westerners, although I think that's acceptable in a Vietnamese hotel! Great to have an elevator up to our floor. Only truly disappointing thing was the woman on reception who tried to convince me to buy bus tickets to Phan Thiet rather than train tickets as she claimed that the train was not air conditioned and the seats didn't recline but the bus was...this is a blatant lie as the train does have those features and I can only assume she would have gained some benefit by selling the bus ticket.

It was a great experience overall at Hoang Lien Hotel. The staffs were friendly and helpful.

Smallish but okay hotel

We stayed here twice in a period of 3 weeks. The first time for 3 days and then the second time for 1 day. The staff are quite good, as they even come to help all new guests as they arrive in taxis and take their luggage and items in for them. The reception staff are okay and seem okay to deal with too. The rates are good and quite good value for money. Room comfort is okay and the rooms are not too small. Free buffet breakfast is fairly simply but quite nice. All in all, would recommend this hotel to all.

Good hotel and good value

We had no problems during our 3 night stay in November 2011. The staff had basic english and were very helpful. The rooms were clean with good furniture, linen and air conditioning. The bathroom was in good order with plenty of hot water. Breakfast was included which was a small but adequate buffet. You are able to leave luggage with them and the tour company they dealt with had reasonably priced tours with good tour guides. The hotel is within walking distance of markets and tourist attractions. There are plenty of places to eat in the street of varying quality and there is a convenience store with ATM a couple of doors down. Just a word of warning - keep away from the rickshaw operators - they tried to rip us off.

Value for money at Hoang Lien Hotel

Made a last minute booking for the hotel. Main consideration is price. Did not have a high expectation after seeing the picture on hotel.com website. However am presently surprise by the roomy space, bright and clean room upon arrival. Staffs are friendly, stay is comfortable, bed and pillow is cushy, buffet breakfast spread is simple but of really decent quality. Rooms has wireless access. Location wise, there is alot of eatery around and you cannot get very wrong with staying in district 1 as in this case where the hotel is located.

The staff was quite polite, some of them spoke english at reception. Our rooms did not have windows: which, if happened in any other town, might have been claustrofobic. In Saigon that was not so bad, because after crazy traffic, it was relaxing to stay totally of your own.

The closets were not cleaned. Breakfast was simple but ok.

フロントは日本語を話す明るい女性がいましたが結婚してアメリカに行くとか、辞めたら日本語は通じません。

サービスの水、コーヒーは無し、アメニティーも
期待しないでください、寝るだけの古いホテルです。
目の前にコンビニがあるから水はそこで買うようにして
ください。

安い部屋を選んだからか、
ベッドメイキングや掃除も２日に１回といわれました。
エアコンはゴンゴン音がしてます。

このホテルを決めたのはバスが付いてたから、
でも蛇口が動かない、シャワーで湯船に溜めました。
お湯は熱いのが出ます。

WiFiもホテルよりも他所から漏れてるフリーWiFiが
速いです。

ホテルの良いところは無関心だから出入りが楽です。
女性を連れ込むには気兼ねないですね。
エレベーターに空のコンドーム袋が捨ててありました。
ただホテルの前には女性はいないです。

Wir vebrachten 11 Nächte in einem \"Deluxe-3-Bett-Zimmer\", das bei der Buchung mit 32qm angegeben war. Das Zimmer, was wir bekommen haben, war höchstens 24qm. Die Lager des Hotels ist gut, nahe an allem und trotzdem für Saigons Verhälnisse ruhig. Das Zimmer wurde nicht automatisch sauber gemacht, sondern nur nach Aufforderung. Klopapier wurde nicht automatisch nachgefüllt. Staff ist freundlich und hilfsbereit, abgesehen von einem Mitarbeiter, als wir bei ihm wegen Magen-Darm-Problem nach einer 2.Rolle Klopapier gefragt haben, teilte er uns mit, dass pro Zimmer und Tag nur eine Rolle gibt. Zustand des Zimmers ist heruntergekommen. Mehrere Schimmelstellen an Decke und Wand sowie reparaturbedürftigte Stellen am Fußboden. Badewanne und Wachbecken haben keine Stöpseln, sodass wir ständig kleinere Sachen in den Abguß verloren hatten. Es gab kleine kriechenden Insekten im Zimmer, deren Art wir nicht identifizieren konnten. Man nimmst es nicht so genau mit der Reinigung. Wlan ist nicht immer verfügbar oder langsam.
