The views from this charming hotel and breathtaking, and the staff was lovely (Francesco was most helpful) and happy to help make our stay and experience memorable. The location itself is a little removed from restaurants and shops (and a little tricky to access with a car), but the quietude was most welcomed and it was easy enough to hire a car to take us into town

The entire property is unique and secluded among the hilltops. The food was excellent. Prepare for a bit of travel to get to the tourist locations but well worth it. Try the deli down the street for a little charcuterie in the afternoons. Love this hotel!!

A Hidden Gem in the Mountains - Truly Unforgettable!
We had an unforgettable stay at this beautiful historic hotel, perched atop a mountain in a quaint little village. The setting is absolutely magical-right next to a Roman aqueduct dating back to 100-200AD, and beside a stunning old Catholic church.
What truly made our stay exceptional was the staff. From the warm and welcoming waitstaff -Gabrielle,
Abdelkader, Lello and Mario— (and all the others that we do not have their names) to Antonio the bartender always there to accommodate with drinks and food, everyone made us feel right at home. A special thank you to Francesco and Simon the pool attendants, who were both incredibly helpful and always ready to answer any questions we had with a smile.
If you're looking for charm, history, and outstanding hospitality, this place is a must-visit. We will cherish our memories here forever. My goodness i have never met a better group of family oriented people. This is the way the world should be.

Family trip to southern Italy

This is a beautiful, historic hotel located in an isolated area in the mountains 35 minutes outside of Salerno. Staff were friendly and accommodating, the room was comfortable, but unfortunately for me and my family it was a little too remote for us. It’s about a 10-15 minute drive from Cava de Tirreni and 35-40 minutes from Salerno. I didn’t realize the distance when we booked the hotel. If you’re looking for a location where there are restaurants and shops close by, this might not be the best location. For plans based out of Salerno, transportation is €40 each way. This can get pricey if you’re planning a lot of sightseeing trips and excursions. However, it is a great place to truly get away, unwind, and enjoy expensive views of the hills above Salerno.

Hotel Scapolatiello is everything you want in an authentic Italy visit. Your at the top of the hill and see the beauty from above. The hotel itself is centuries old and has a very unique feel. Would recommend to walk the hotel to see the beauty for yourself. The staff are very friendly and attentive on everything they do and are very prompt with cleaning service daily. You’re only a 10 mins drive down into cava de Tirreni. This hotel and town is a beautiful gem.

Beautiful hotel, wonderful surroundings. The rooms are a bit on the smaller side for a family of four, but that is to be expected for a hotel that was built in 1821. Free, unlocked WiFi everywhere was very useful since the cell phone reception was spotty, given the location (the hotel is in the mountains but with a quick and easy access to the coast). Also, make sure you have a small car, given how tight the streets are.

Hotel Scapolatiello is quite unique, created by a family in 1821 and currently run by the 5th generation of the same family. It is in a fantastic location in forested mountains above Salerno with majestic views. The rambling building has several terraces with lots of flowers and it is a soothing and pleasing experience to sip a cocktail provided by the friendly and obliging barman, Antonio, to relax, and just gaze at the natural beauty all around. We found the staff to be helpful and smiling and felt we were being well taken care of. A special mention also to the head waiter Abel, who went out of his way to ensure everything was to our liking. There is a nicely laid out and good sized swimming pool with ample deckchairs and towels and a small bar. The restaurant is slightly old-fashioned, with a relatively short but decent menu, in addition to which there were always specials such as sea bream, sea bass, lobster, spaghetti with utterly delicious tomatoes, and steak. The wine list is extensive and affordable. All in all, we loved being there and it was a lovely experience. On one night singers from the Conservatoire at Salerno gave an impromptu performance in the lounge area, which was magical. The only excursion arranged for us by the hotel was a trip along the beautiful Amalfi coast in a motor launch with another couple, with a one hour stop in Amalfi and a longer one for lunch in Positano.

Won’t be going back.

Rooms we were allocated were dreadful. After complaining we were allocated a slightly better one but the couple we were holidaying with were given an apartment style accommodation but many issues and not comfortable. We couldn’t wait to leave. We didn’t enjoy our time there and apart from one male member of staff the rest were surly and unwelcoming. The member of staff who did at least smile recommended a restaurant in Ravello, which was superb. However he also recommended a boat trip along the Amalfi coast. £500+ and promised we would see Positano, (we did see it from way out to see), have an hour ashore in Amalfi and lunch. We had lunch at an ok beach bar but of course we paid the restaurant additionally for that. The other parts of the itinerary never happened. Just chugged up and back down the coast. As for snacks and drinks, couple of bottles of water, a shot of limoncello and a slice of cold pizza. An absolute rip off and boring. Absolutely not what we were told we would get for our £500.

Amazing grounds to stroll or relax, quiet location with great views, excellent food, great staff with a special shout-out to Francheso, who arranged for us to charter a boat and arranged all our transportation around the area. The hotel interior was also nicely decorated in a unique style from in stark contrast from modern generic hotels. Bonus: gelato stand attached to hotel with amazing employee...Lemonchello to go with that Gelato? No problem!

Hotel is remote and NOWHERE does it mention how unaccessible the hotel is. Super narrow roads and inability to get to the reception by car. you need to park elsewhere and they send you a shuttle. Room was shabby, ancient furnitures and dust. I will never stay there again. We cut our stay short as a result.

Very nice front desk staff and clean, comfortable room. Breakfast buffet nice. This hotel is difficult to drive to due to its unique location, so use hotel provided directions, not on-line maps. Also, parking is not convenient to lobby which requires that you haul your bags up a pretty good grade for a moderate distance. There’s a pizza place also right at enterance. It’s very good and very popular at night which causes real traffic flow challenges getting to hotel parking lot.

On the winding drive up the mountain, we wondered what we were in for but when we arrived, we found a gorgeous hotel with stunning views and gardens and a pool in a beautiful setting. Super hotel which seems small on arrival but is actually spread over many levels with gardens and a pool. Slightly quirky due to being a linked amalgam of a number of village buildings. Pool location with panoramic views of the mountains around is really stunning. Service can be a bit patchy - you have to seek out someone for drinks at the pool or other communal areas. On site restaurant serves good food in the evening.

The room was a little on the small size, but the bed was very comfortable. I cannot understand why they put the shower head across the small bath rather than facing down the bath. Hence when you took a shower you couldn't move and the water went straight onto the floor.
The breakfast was OK but they wouldn't let you serve yourself.
The bar was available every time we wanted it and the prices we very reasonable.

We absolutely loved our stay. Our massage was amazing.The view from the hotel was beautiful. We also loved the location (Cava was a lovely town). Although it was tough for taxis to get to the hotel due to narrow roads we didn’t mind that very much. Our room was very clean. Clean towels were given every day. Complimentary breakfast was great. Dinner was delicious (we tried almost everything on the menu). We specifically enjoyed our waiters Abdel and Nazar, they were very kind & welcoming. One night they surprised us with a cake, candle and champagne to celebrate our engagement & the very next morning they brought us breakfast in bed. Two very beautiful souls. They truly made our stay very very special. 10/10 would recommend this place.

The property was lovely, the terrace was well presented with different plants and the panoramic views are incredible. If you want ultra modern chic this isn’t the place for you as this hotel is an older property with lots of charm and character.
The toilets in the bathroom was a little awkwardly positioned but expected with from a older property. Otherwise beautiful place with lovely staff. Highly recommended.

Only reservation is the narrow entrance and limited parking. Not a problem if you are not travelling by car, but as the hotel is about 10 mins outside Cava you probably need a car. Great hotel, lovely views over the hills, great value for money would stay there again. 'Appartment Rooms' are great for familes as you have a private corridor with it's own door feeding two rooms, it worked really well for us as we were two adults snd three kids. Typically Italian in the best way. Great breakfast facilities and good in the restaurant too.

Only good thing about this hotel is its location.

Firstly I would just like to say I never write comments on anything but I felt I had to on this hotel. We booked the 2 bedroom apartment, slightly away from the hotel in an old building, no problem with that, just the fact that the ground floor apartment had no view only into the small car park and onto the local meeting place for screaming Italian kids. The apartment was poorly equipped, sofa bed in the lounge area was so uncomfortable to sit on we made it into the bed. No kettle, bread knife, lots of bits like this, the cooker hood was disgustingly filthy. No plugs in any of the whb. The shower was so small you could not bend down to grab your shower products easily and the shower rail was hanging off the wall. Towel hooks hanging off wall, basically an old and Knackered apartment. Cleaners came mid week to change bedding and towels but no sweeping of floors.
The Hotel: NO BAR yet this hotel is of a decent size, you could get cans of beer from the pool man or the ice cream / coffee / sort of bar room at the front of the building. Never seemed to be any staff around. Pool area a lot smaller than the photos make it look, we were ok getting a place on the sun loungers which are more comfortable than our sofa simply because it was deadly quite. Maybe this hotel does not get fully functional until later in the year.
I will say however that the location of this hotel is very nice. Went out of hotel and up a road to 3 pizzerias for meals, so can't comment on hotel food.

Beautiful valley view and huge suite.

We booked a suite and it did not disappoint. The large balcony was excellent overlooking the valley. The room had a very nice living area that included a fold out bed and a full bathroom. The adjoining bedroom portion also had a very large master suite second bathroom. There were ample closets to be able to comfortable unpack and the room was much larger then a standard room.

The bed was very comfortable. The bedding was of good quality and the mini-bar was well stocked.

The front desk was very friendly with check-in as well as the various times that that we had any questions about the hotel or the area. Housekeeping also was very friendly and did an excellent job.

Breakfast was very nice. I especially liked the yogurt bar with all of the things to add and the ability to squeeze fresh orange juice was also very nice. The options for breakfast made sure you started the day out well.

The pool was very attractive as were the grounds. Hotel Scapolatiello is a lovely place to say in the Amalfi region and a great way to get away and relax.

That hotel was not real easy to find, as it is tucked away on the mountain side, but, once we found it we enjoyed our stay and even extended for one night. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We had a superior double room and it was quite big and it had a very large walk out common deck, that was available to others, but we never saw anyone else on it. The road to get to the hotel are very narrow and it's very winding, but when we knew where we were going, and the GPS helping us, driving up and down the hill only took a few minutes and was quite fun. The hotel is close very close to the Amalfi coast, but at the same time away from the city and in a very unique location. The breakfasts were very good and we enjoyed squeezing our own orange juice with the old press.

Love this place

Whilst a bit out of town (and some narrow roads to get to it), the staff are fantastic and it is such a calming place. Great to have a slightly cooler temperature to relax in the evening. Great food as well. Even managed a superb hike from the hotel with great views over the Amalfi - stunning, and a beautiful cathedral / monastery right on the door step. Will definitely be returning soon.

A little oasis in the mountain

This hotel was a lovely surprise,we stayed from the 2nd to 11th July.We have lived in England for 36 years and we are not used to the Italian heat in July or August,but this year we attended a family Birthday at the same hotel,it was great!The views of the mountains,the well tended gardens,the kindness of all the staff,the breakfast buffet,the swimming pool with an extremely attentive supervisor and more!We would recommend this hotel to anybody and we will return as soon as we can

Wonderful hotel perched in the mountain

The hotel setting and views are fantastic. Pool is very nice although it closes early 6pm. The apartment was nicer than expected and a great place to stay for four people. The only drawback was that it was a little bit noisy.

We arrived and right off the bat they were trying to switch our room from a 2 bdrm apartment to 1 bdrm. We requested what we booked and they obliged. The apartment was o.k. Dishes, frig, small cooktop provided. The tub and shower leaked. The bed was the hardest bed that I have every slept in! The neighborhood kids played at an area outside our window until 11 p.m. which made it hard to sleep. The staff was not that friendly. Very small portions at the hotel restaurant and slow service. As a plus, the pool was nice and pretty view.

Beautiful location and excellent facilities

We had a fantastic stay here. We had a superior double room, which offered wonderful views over the valley. The staff at this hotel are very helpful, friendly and welcoming. The pool was perfect. It was nice to stay in a hotel within 10 minutes drive of the coast without having to stay amongst the mayhem of the major tourist towns. Ample parking - there is a large private car park 3 minutes walk from the hotel entrance. The gardens are STUNNING. Highly recommended.

Nice hotel in a Unique setting

Unique hotel with amazing views of the mountains where it is located. The local restaurants and shops are good. There is very little parking anywhere and the streets are very narrow...the car you drive will dictate if you can get to this hotel or if you are parking down the mountain at an off site lot. The room was not exactly as shown online and was not in the actual hotel. Overall cool experience and we enjoyed our time here.

Parking at the hotel is not for the feint hearted

Entrance ally way to the car park is very very small. Once out of the car park access to Salerno was good.
