The staff were polite, friendly, and easy to communicate with. The daily room clean was inconsistent and didn't always include a linen change, but fresh towels were always provided. We never heard noise from other rooms, only when people would talk in the hallway. We had to adjust the temperature in our mini fridge because our food froze inside. My husband and I stayed here (in the annex building) for two weeks in January and by the end of our trip the quality of the mattress was causing restless nights and sore backs. The temperature in the room was difficult to get right, and we usually slept with the window open a few inches. So I would stay here again, but only for shorter periods.
The location is great! Super easy walk to Ikebukuro JR station, restaurants, karaoke rooms, arcades, shops, and a sento where we went almost every night. We were often awoken by early morning truck deliveries and garbage pickup along the street, but I don't know how avoidable that is.
The cafe downstairs was nice to have on nights when we wanted an easy dinner, but a protein option in the $5 breakfast would be appreciated (it only includes toast, tea, coffee, and water). The cafe was also nice when we just needed to sit down at a table for 5 minutes, since our room didn't have space for that. The cafe gets quite busy and loud on weekend nights, but the seating areas are split by the entryway with a quieter space on the far side.
Overall it's a good budget option.

Overally a great hotel in a superb location. Only an 8 minute walk from Ikebukuro station.

The dining area was great. The restaurant was always buzzing and the food and drink options were good.

The weekly share a meal with someone from another country/culture is a great idea.

There are no amenities in the hostel , the bunk rooms have to be renovated, there were two old guys snoring all the time which made my sleep really so difficult.

The money exchange in lobby down there is offering 139 yen for one dollar which is really a very high exhange rate which should not be the case , you have to be honest with travellers and not trying to empty their pockets

I loved how clean the room was and the daily check in with the maid, in case we needed anything she would come between 10am-2pm and please do expect the room to be clean when you return from your adventures in Japan! Also the cafe on the 1st floor of the annex building has very good food which I liked when I get back at the hotel before 9pm then I have an hour to go to the cafe before setting in my room for the night 😊

The hostel boasts an excellent location, conveniently close to public transportation, restaurants, and shops. I reserved a private room with four bunk beds at a very affordable price. The breakfast is simple, consisting of toast, plain soup, and coffee or tea. The gentleman at the front desk was extremely helpful and made my stay even more enjoyable.

Hostel was short distance to walk to train station. To walk to so many choices a food. Lots of things to look at while walking around. Perfect.

The staff were super friendly and helpful.
Even on last day after checking out. The young guy helped me put my sim card.

Only Down fall is too close to common area could hear people talking on there phone most nights very late.
Also the sinks are right there also. Away from bathrooms and next to common areas. So listening to a hair dryer

I was given a room on the 7th floor on the main building. On the first night, there was only one other lady in the 6-pax dorm with me, and I think the 2 other rooms next door were empty. On the second night, there was also just another lady with the same room as me. But I think maybe one other occupant in another room.

Overall it was a comfortable and safe stay. But if it were to be full, maybe the showers wouldn't be enough. There was enough space in the shower room for personal belongings.

Breakfast was very basic.. Really, just bread with jam or butter; soup, tea n coffee. On the first day there were eggs but not the second day.

Staff are helpful and are all effectively bilingual. After I checked out, I was also allowed to leave my luggage at the hotel for a day before retrieving it the next day. There is a water dispenser to fill our bottles before heading out for the day. On the 6th floor there is also a communal kitchen where we can use the microwave. Lastly, the hotel seemed like a long walk from ikebukuro station, but if you take exit C6 (Echika Exit), you will reach the hotel in 1 min. C6 also has escalators for those taking public transport with their luggage!

The bilingual staff was very helpful and accommodating. The breakfast was surprisingly good for coffees/teas. Loved that they supplied milk instead of creamers. The soup was good too. Didn’t care for white bread but for the price it was fine. Left my bag for the day which was a nice option provided. The sheets were crispy cleaned and the bathroom across from the room and very convenient. The location is ideal as the station is close and easy to find. The shops nearby make shopping a breeze and there are plenty of inexpensive restaurants to choose from. Most of all you meet very interesting people who stay there. The kitchen provides enough to making a meal quite easy. They provide spices, oils, dishes, pots, and pans. These little things make cooking much better. There’s not much space between beds but again for the price I can’t complain.

This hotel is in a great location (Ikebukuro) with lots of food options and rail station nearby. The mattresses were quite stiff for those used to softer ones, but otherwise our experience was great!

This hotel is in a great location and there is plenty to do in Ikebukuro and it is near the train station so that you can travel easily around Tokyo and beyond. The rooms are basic, but they do a job. One thing I didn't know about until I got to the room, was that they had a mobile data device which you could take with you and use to look up items. V. useful when you are from the UK and your mobile company data costs are really expensive! Would definitely consider staying here again.

They were this guy that hated heater, thus he kept on hiding remote for the heater. U complained that issues to the front desk and male front desk clerk time me that I didn't feel cold, this I am not forcing him to turn on the heater. The only problem with that was, by not turning the heater on the cold winter night, hotel violated the minimum requirement to keep the temperature at 20 C/ 68 F, so basically this hotel became a slam housing for me and thanks to them I caught a cold with fever lol

Room isn't the best, but convenient and friendly

We stayed in the bunk bed room with private bath/shower, stayed 5 nights. The room was incredibly small, especially for a couple, but we were hardly in it. Service was 24/hr and excellent, breakfast was across the street in the Sakura Cafe. It's coffee or tea, toast, jam, butter, and two light soups. The soups varied, but vegetable soup was a staple (curry was my favorite). My husband and I found it perfect to get our day started. We put the DND on our door (we don't like staff to clean our room/change towels often) and they would leave towels on our door in a bag.. which i thought was a bit unnecessary. Still, it was incredibly cheap for something with daily service and breakfast. IT's super convenient to the Ikebukuro JR station, and with our unlimited JR pass we were able to go basically anywhere. 7-11 right around the corner, vending machines everywhere.. if you're there just to crash and leave it's perfect. Also, the staff is a Kuroneko/Yamato Transport location, so you can take advantage of the Hands Free Japan service to punt your luggage between cities/the airport. It was $50 to send 3 suitcases to Kyoto and not have to drag them on the shinkansen - super worth it.

It was a small yet comfy room, I stayed here mid November. So there AC (aircon) does not come out cold air it’s actually hot air heater, I’m from Guam so we really like cold. But the staff said all rooms at the moment is only blowing hot air, this was at 1am when I came back from shoping so I was really tired but the staff was very helpful and nice he came back after 30 minutes, he was able to change it to cold instead of hot air. So it was nice that he still tried to help me, the stay was great its clean but since it’s kinda small it’s hard to open my luggage and my husbands luggage also. And since my room was on the other side of the building we always had cross but it’s not far it was just annoying cause there’s a restaurant in the building. So when I wanted to wash my clothes I’d have to go across and I’m wearing house clothes but going into a restaurant, so it was just annoying. But other than that it was a great place to stay it was very close to everything.

Prepare for the heavy doors

The only downside for me was the fact that the doors were very heavy - this means that they slammed shut VERY loudly,which disrupted my sleep when my roommates came back late (I stayed in a dorm- guess this wont be an issue in a private room) so that was slightly annoying...

Also aircon was centrally controlled and it got pretty cold through the night. Beds were fairly comfy though be prepared u have to fix your own sheets and etc.

Sakura hotel Ikebukuro is popular with younger travellers and generally more accommodating for foreign tourists than the usual low end business hotels in this price bracket.
I've stayed here several times over the last ten years, the property is starting to show its age but it's still cozy and very welcoming.

Did not expect a hostel.

My first response was disappointment with myself for not knowing that I had booked a room at a hostel. The name clearly stated \"hotel\". Perhaps I missed something in the description of the accommodations. As a hostel, I have to say that it does a good job at providing the services offered. Room was clean as was the bedding. Not used to public sinks but they were kept clean. As were the toilet and shower. Breakfast was a value at 350 yen per person for all you can eat of toast, jelly, butter, coffee and 2 types of soup. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They were the best aspect of our stay. So, for people that are used to hostels, this one is very good and I recommend it. The reason I stated that I would not recomnend it is because everyone I know has a family and would not use a hostel anyway. Thank you.

rooms were good, but it would be nice to have privacy curtains on each of the beds like other dormitories, especially in mixed dorms.
the hotel is clean, but the showers could really do with a really good scrub. the ventilation isn’t good and has caused mold to grow, which doesn’t look like it’s been cleaned in a long time..
the all you can eat toast and coffee/tea breakfast they put on was good. simple. but gets the job done. it also goes from 4:30am-11am which is good for both early and late rises.

Stayed here for my first ever trip to Japan. Staff was extremely kind and helpful, and having a nearby cafe open 24 hours was nice! I also really liked the location. Cheap and immediate access via cheap metro to any of the big areas! One thing that could be improved was their bedding situation. The room was secured by a lock which was nice, but there was no privacy curtain or shutter of any kind, the mats were a bit hard, and the bunk bed was sorta squeaky.

I would definitely stay here again for the price, location and amenities however!

The hotel is a short walk from the JR Station, casual restaurants, bars, and shops in the suburb of Ikebukero.
The staff were fantastic and helpful.
I had a couple of meals and beers at the hotel restaurant and would eat there again if I needed a quick bite.
My dorm room was clean, but mostly occupied by people working/studying in Tokyo and lacked at atmosphere of other dorms I’ve stayed in. Overall I really enjoyed my visit and would definitely stay here again (but perhaps in a private room next time).

Nice cozy hotel with good location

The location of this hotel is good, very close to the Ikebukuro station and in the heart of a very bustling region of Tokyo. The rooms however are small and cramped. Many times there wasn’t even enough space to turn around.
The hotel staff was kind and fun to talk to and the hotel atmosphere was warm and cozy. The downside was for the dorm rooms there was little to no room service. Staying for a long period means using the same bedsheets over and over and over again.
The washrooms were public and small, but most of them were tidy and well kept. Showers had enough hot water and pressure.
Overall this is a good satisfactory hotel and was a pleasure to stay in

Just left the hotel today back home in the US. I stayed for one week and I would give 5-stars for every thing if the hotel can manage the noise from the Cafe by either enforce its late night noise policy to its hotel cafe outdoor sections or by better noise damping installation. I stayed on third floor directly above the Cafe outdoor sections and it was like living on top of the zoo on most of the nights till midnight.

Rooms are small, but it's expected in a big city like Tokyo, so I have no complaints about that. However, rooms are a bit older looking and could use some renovation and modernization. The staff were nice and helpful. I would stay here again.

Clean convenient place, close to train station.

Easy walk to Ikebukuro train station. Clean but very small room. If you expect to use the room only for sleeping, it's ideal. \"Free\" breakfast was terrible. Only coffee, toast and some broth of the day. Plenty of cheap eats close by and a 7-11 market on the block.
