This is a fantastic hotel, close to everything. Very hip and stylish lobby and outdoor lounge. The only thing that could improve is the hot tub was cold and we could not get it to heat up but we would highly recommend this property when visiting Santa Margherita ligure.

The hotel, staff and facilities were all fantastic. The size of our room was great (quite large) and we were looked after wonderfully well. The only negative was the taxi the hotel arranged to take us to Chiavari. The taxi was run down, the driver was 'off hand' and he charged 150 Euro's ...despite us querying the amount. On the way in from the same location we paid 58 Euro's so 'ripped off'

Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. The room was very nice and comfortable. The bathroom was also big and well appointed. The breakfast buffet was very good. The only negative thing I would say is that we didn't know you needed to pay extra to use the pool 20 Euro per person. They should advertise this more prominently.

The property was lovely. The staff was exceptional. They allowed us to check in a bit early and stored our luggage until we got back from lunch. Then they personally escorted us to our room .
We did not partake of the breakfast. It cost 30 euro per person and we thought that was a bit pricey for the amount of food that we eat for breakfast. We walked two blocks and had a great breakfast for about 15 euro instead of 60 euro.
We stayed in the newer part of the hotel in the back. Very modern rooms, white, bright but small.

Booked 3 suites for 3 nights TERRIBLE TERRIBLE, This hotel use to be my favourite location wise and service.

This stay was basically the front desk staff trying to make everything hectic and unpleasant.
Housekeeping was filthy, leaving cleaning items in the room , not changing the bedding which had a tanning oil stain. Towels smelt like it was washed in a kitchen. Unbleached, with spots on the corners. In addition they had us pay for parking for 6 hours although the duty manager informed me a day earlier that he won't charge as I am a regular resident.

At check out I was served with a rude, disrespectful bigot that made it her duty to override the managers decision as she wanted to charge me initially until the duty manager waived it. As he wasnt available on check out she kept ranting and raised her voice infront of the people checking in which shocked the prospective residents and said \" you signed a contract at check in , if you dont know how to read that your problem, you can afford it so pay it. Which Is true i did sign out of good faith as this wasn't my first time staying at this hotel.

All in all , this hotel needs to train those new staff members the real meaning of hospitality. Continuing this manner will definitely ruin the hotels reputation as word of mouth and reviews are what intices booking a particular hotel, and myself and all my friends and family will surely not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Beautiful hotel with problematic spa hours

We stayed in the Spa Wing, so i only speak for that portion of the hotel. Room was large, spacious, well decorated. Great private patio. Beautiful hallways, lobby, outdoor area. Service was perfect. Insisted on carrying luggage, parking the car. Excellent drink service in the gorgeous lobby. Front desk was super courteous and hard working. Great people work here. They are doing something right!

Just a beautiful place and perfect location a block front the harbor and the basilica. I would stay here before going anywhere else in Rapallo or Portofino.

Critiques: lovely spa. They charge 25 Euros per person. Steep but their rooms are inexpensive as a result. So pay for what you use. I respect that. My real critique is the spa, which includes the gym, is only open from 12-8pm. This.may be because of staff shortages. I don't know. But it is unacceptable. Subtract a star for that.

Marvelous experience, we came for couple days and it was wonderful .
The staff is very helpful, polite and professional. The hotel itself is very modern and the installations are clean and we'll look after.
We requested to upgrade our room to one with terrace and they helped us with it.
The location is perfect to walk everywhere.

Newly renovated hotel in a good location

Recently renovated and located just a block from the water, this was a nice stop for our visit to Santa Margherita. The staff was vey pleasant and helpful and offered great guidance for our visit. We were located in the new Spa rooms which are clean and quiet (they are off the back). Hotel is well situated for getting to the restaurants and waterfront. Use of the Spa/pool is a substantial additional charge (per person/not room) so be sure to figure that into your rate.

Room was small and without any windows -- only a skylight. Elevator did not go to our floor, requiring us to drag suitcases up the final flight of stairs. Insufficient power outlets. But buffet breakfast was good and, overall, the property is good. Just avoid rooms on the fifth floor.

The location was perfect only about a 2 minute walk to both the train station and the town area. The balcony was nice and spacious it was nice to relax in the hot tub with a drink after exploring the area. It is a very modern chic hotel. The only negative thing I would say is that the shower is tiny and the walls are thin so you can hear your neighbors and people walking in the hallway.

This is a hotel in the centre of town which is meant to be 5 star but had no link to any hotel which is near the water’s edge to enable sit in the sun by the seafront. Very disappointing.

Furthermore It has a spa only access from the hotel is to go outside the building and walk around the corner for about 100 yards. The size of the pool is small by any standards.

Rooms SIze was OK but showers very small. We requested the radiator to be put on in the evening to dry our towels so we would not have damp towels in the morning. This could not be done nor did they offer us fresh towels. This is not five star service either.

Stayed 2 nights at this hotel. Rooms were modern with a fab bathroom but shower went everywhere.
Breakfast was good and restaurant service was superb.
Our only gripe is the indoor pool - there was a charge for hotel guests to use it!!! Went to the beach instead.

The staff were very friendly and professional but unfortunately the room we were given was quite uncomfortable due to the fact that it did not have air conditioning and did not have a shower, only a bath. Being a loft room there was no window, only a skylight that could be open a little but we had no air flow. The room was quite hot and claustrophobic. We were told that the A/C was not broken, it was put in winter mode until May so it only circulated air. When I complained, I was told by the manager that they could give me another room but it was bigger so I would have to pay extra... very disappointing, a 5 star hotel with no A/C or a shower? I was also told that it does say on the website that the room we chose had no shower, but unfortunately I did not see that before I booked it.

We booked the executive room with jacuzzi, but the jacuzzi never got hot, and we waist your day waiting for it. And stead the hotel offer us something extra as compensation, they change has to another room, but if wasent the same standard. The first room was well decorated, and nice terrace, the second one was on the embasement.

A real mixed bag, could be great but isn't quite

So the hotel is quite modern and nice and we found the service quite good. But 5 star this is not. We were in the loft suite which was ok but did not have a shower (in truth I can't remember what was advertised, but after a long hot day you really want a shower rather than a slow running bath). There was a bad drain smell which had been disguised when we arrived with perfume or air freshener. And the roof terrace with hot tub was great, but only one sun lounger for two people, eh? When we asked for a second one the desk said they would deal to it but never did. It was our honeymoon so the nice chap on the desk Claudio offered a bottle of prosecco on the house. Nice touch but I had to phone down three times to get it delivered, and then we only got two glasses rather than a full bottle. Yes a first world problem I know, but when you are paying £400 per night you expect higher standards. I agree with Herman L's review - with a few tweaks this could be great, but right now it isn't.

Luxury without breaking the bank

Absolutely amazing! The staff are warm and welcoming and provided outstanding service every step of the way. The rooms are spacious and modern. The location is fantastic for exploring, is close beaches, restaurants, shops, and you can even walk to Portofino along the coast. It takes about 1.5 hours but is very scenic, there is also a ferry bus if you prefer. Santa Margherita is a gorgeous town, I actually prefer it to Portofino after having visited both!

A true Gem!!!

Very modern and clean. Only two blocks from the action yet a very quiet neighborhood. Very convenient for the train station. The breakfast buffet was excellent and the staff service was also excellent. The valet car parking was very easy and quick. The front desk staff were always ready to assist and make your stay the best possible. In particular Paula who helped us pay our toll via an italian internet site. I would highly recommend this hotel. While the property was terrific, the staff were even better. Hats off to management. You have put together a great team.

Both check in and breakfast staff were very professional. Thank you again, Giorgia, for the warm reception. Great location just minutes from the train station, beach and town center. Can take train to 5 Terres. We liked Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino even more - these seaside towns were far less crowded than 5 Terres, and had beautiful buildings and restaurants all around. Try the nearby deli next to the church - best hand made pasta!

Wonderful staff!

We were originally booked into another hotel and encountered a problem when we tried to check in. I booked this online and we walked to the hotel about ten minutes later. Adrean at the front desk welcome day us warmly and showed us to our room. We stayed for three nights and enjoyed out stay very much, despite the inclement weather. We felt all the staff was exceptionally friendly and always helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

TERRIBLE STAY – VERY BADLY MANAGED HOTEL

I have travelled the world, not only on holiday but within my career. Unfortunately for Hotel Santa Margherita Palace, this is the first review I have left with negative comments. Here are a FEW points why I rate this hotel as a ZERO….

•Parking charged at €25 per night despite having paid €310 per night
•Impossible to find a parking bay – very stressful after battling the city centre roads
•Dirty bathroom towels
•very rude and unprofessional staff with zero customer service skills
•Mini bar prices are outrageously expensive
•Cigarette dumps left in the bathroom
•hard rock mattress
•Worst check-in experience EVER
•If you do voice a problem the hotel staff do not want to know. They have your money and do not care about any issues you experience
•Stained bed sheets
•Breakfast was below average. Very limited selection with, stale cakes & pastries, mouldy cheese and the meats looked like they had been left lying in the sun for weeks
•No tea coffee making facility in the room
•Cheap flimsy pillows
•Poor air-conditioning
•Intermittent wifi
•Breakfast area is dark & dingy not inviting at all with dirty unhygienic tables

I am sad to say there are no positive for the hotel or the staff! The only positive for us is that we only booked one night stay at this appalling hotel. I will most certainly NOT be retuning or recommend this hotel to anyone! Santa Margherita Ligure is a magnificent place and has the most beautiful hotels with a lot more to offer than Hotel Santa.

We had a lovely stay at Santa Margherita Palace and the staff were incredibly friendly. Having fresh towels offered to us by a maid each evening, along with some sweets (!), was a nice touch. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to the Italian Riviera.

A wide choice for breakfast and cheerful and supportive staff made the start to each day very pleasant and the hotel itself is ideally suited as a luxury base for exploring the beautiful Cinque Terre. After travelling in Italy for many years, could not recommend it highly enough.

3 bedroom unit not in the main tower

We booked the 3 bedroom suite since it was 7 of us and when we arrived at the hotel we were informed that the unit that we have chosen is not in the main building and it's in fact 800 meters away from the hotel which was very inconvenient for us since we had to park the car at the hotel.

At the time of booking via expedia it was not clear or mentioned anything that these rooms are not in the main building. The building where our unit was, was very old and the elevators smelled so bad.

The unit itself was very beautiful and clean and I guess the only disappointing thing was the fact that the unit was not in the hotel itself.

Lovely hotel, close to train station, town center

The hotel is lovely, quiet and centrally located. We enjoyed the abundant buffet breakfast, and the woman on the catering staff was absolutely lovely - had our cappuccino ready before we sat down, and even prepared a room service meal for us herself. The room was very pretty and well-appointed, as well as very comfortable. We were able to walk to sops and restaurants within a few minutes. Santa Margherita is a stunning town on the beach - close to Cinque Terre and other resort towns. We'd love to go back for a longer stay.

One night stay to visit Portofino. Lovely hotel, staff very helpful. Only expectation from a 4* hotel is complimentary water in the room.

Mini-moon bliss in Santa Margherita Ligura Palace

A fab boutique hotel found last minute for a mini-moon. Brilliant location, a block away from beach and easy walking distance to shops, resteraunts and tourist attractions. Check in quick, hire car parked by valet and brought around to us promptly throughout our stay. Rooms very comfortable and spacious. Bathroom featured great free toiletries and shower however there was a definite smell of stagnant water which permeated through to bedroom. This needs addressing and it would be 5* Breakfast was beautiful, plenty of fruit, yogurts, cheeses, cold meat, bacon, eggs and pastries.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel and town as a great place to stay and explore this pretty area.

Just a great little boutique hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Might not have the water views but it's only meters to walk to the waters edge and restaurants.

Perfect location. Close to the train station, town, restaurants. They were very helpful at the hotel with anything we needed. Breakfast was good as well as hours. Close to Portifino which was a delight. Great time of year to go.
