The hotel’s location is excellent, but the property itself isn’t very well maintained. The first room we were given had a leaking washbasin, a loose and shaky toilet seat, no water stopper for the bathtub, and, worst of all, no hot water when the temperature was –1°C. They moved us to another room the next day, which resolved the water and stopper issues, but the heater there was an old 51-year-old Soviet unit with a complicated operating method. The breakfast was fantastic and the staff were friendly, but overall, this is probably the worst 4-star hotel I’ve stayed in.

The entire building is in need of renovations/upgrades. While the sheets were clean, and there weren't bedbugs, the hotel feels dirty not because I can see dirt, specifically, but because the carpet, etc are so old they just need to be replaced. My room heater did have a \"clicker\" to try to get heat, but it didn't work, but fortunately there was a great extra blanket. (My travel companions didn't even have a clicker to try to use.) Staff were not very helpful or friendly.

The gym was pathetic - the treadmill & another machine were in the hall and clearly not usable. All that was available was weight equipment and it was clearly well used.

The restaurant (17th floor) staff was either insufficient, or unmotivated - both, it appears, as they did not seem to aim to please. Four of us waited 20+ minutes to order and then the food came out in no particular order, but the last person was served more than 30 minutes after the first person. Requests for items, such as silverware and napkins, were unfulfilled. The dessert bar (lobby level) had one dessert in the case, and some candy for purchase. What was clearly at one time a landmark grand hotel is now a shadow of it's former self.

We stayed in 2 different rooms. 1st room the sink was blogged, They tried to fix it but it didn’t work. Carpet was very old and dirty. No A/C, unit was controlled for the whole hotel from front desk, it was all in one unit. 2nd room had A/C with controller, (luckily). The room and bathroom could have used some upgrades. Carpet again old and dirty looking. The sink and tube had cracked tiles. Tv had no English Channel.

The room and the hotel are dated. For example, the carpet throughout was dirty and worn, bathtub was so high that a senior would find it extremely difficult to enter, the basin was draining slowly, the AC was switched off, the safe deposit box was not operational, etc. (When I complained, the reception staff noted down but could not help. An honest worker whispered to me to not insist for safe deposit box repair and risk my cash/documents getting trapped!.)
On positive side, the hotel is at a great location and is familiar. Many major attractions and great restaurants are withing walking distances. Many tourist buses and public transportation are available right there. Breakfast was not luxurious but was fairly adequate in terms of variety and local flavors.
Seniors should be cautious. Otherwise, it is okay, if you have to spend a night or two.

The Hotel Uzbekistan is an icon of Soviet-era Tashkent. While the lobby has been modernised, the rooms still feel straight out of the 1970s, and many corridors seem bizarrely abandoned. There’s nothing wrong with it as a hotel - just a little different to your average stay. Breakfast, service, cleanliness, facilities etc all good.

Hotel Uzbekistan may need a little TLC to bring it back to its original grandeur, but as it is we have no complains at all. Location is central and easy accessible from TAS airport, the Amir Temur metro station is right downstairs and it was very convenient for getting around the city. We were on the 15th floor and the room was absolutely quiet at night. The 4 roomy elevators worked fine. We had a small balcony and the room itself was larger than your average modern hotel room. The King size bed was a bit firm but comfy and the black out drapes were nice too. There was a sitting area by the entrance of the room with 2 arm chairs, a table and a lamp. Also a desk with a chair, a mini fridge with water bottles provided every day. There was also an electric kettle, cups and tea bags. There was plenty of storage, a big wardrobe and a chest drawer. Housekeeping cleaned the room everyday quickly and we would find it tidied up when we were back mid afternoon. Toiletries and slippers were provided. The buffet breakfast was varied, delicious and plentiful. My vegetarian husband had many options to choose from every morning. The bar had good service and a variety of drinks at fair prices. It was very pleasant to stop by for a cold beer after doing walking tours all day. All in all, we were very happy with our stay at hotel Uzbekistan, the staff was helpful, friendly and polite. Everyone spoke really good English. We would definitely stay there again.

This hotel needs modernising and staff training.

When I arrived they clsimed to have no record of my booking until I showed it to them on them Hoteld.com app.

The bar had no beer or wine for three days. The vodka ran out after one glass.

Breakfast was OK but not special and dsspjte lots of staffctheybkept runningbout of things and needed prompting to fetch more.

Decoration is past its best and the bathroom had a cracked sink and was very “tired”. It would have bern nice to have foreign tv channels besides RT (Russia Today).

Good points include being convient right by a Metro station), near seversl goidcrestaurants, having a money exchange desk and ease of getting a taxi via reception. The bedroom was a good size with comfy chairs. The young woman on reception when I left was very pleasant and helpful.

It’s a historic and landmark hotel, no question about that. What was a major turnoff is the bar manager from the 16th floor who kept asking me to get cash from the ATM downstairs to pay him when we dined up there. This was even after I paid him very good tips in cash and asked to pay the bulk of my bills with my Visa card or billed to my room. His argument was that the hotel doesn’t pay his service fee when guests pay with card and his grief that he made 2 million soums salary.

Other than that, it gets very loud in the hotel when people move into the rooms next to yours. Some guests speak very loudly in their rooms and smoke all night. It makes it difficult to sleep.

Otherwise it’s a historic hotel (needs some renovation) with a Soviet vibe.

Only minor feedback would be to have more plug points near to the bed in the rooms. Also, there were only 8-person tables at breakfast which meant I had to share with strangers which is not ideal for a solo traveller.

Pleasantly surprised. It’s not a fine hotel by any means, but it’s a good place to stay for a night or two. The staff were very helpful and checked me in at 3 AM after my flight. The location is good and the building itself is special. And it was less than 1/5 the cost of the Intercontinental.

I've visited over 100 countries but I have never stayed anywhere quiet like the hotel Uzbekistan. I made a reservation with hotels.com some 6 months prior to my stay.

When I arrived I was told that they had no record of my booking. After approximately 45 mins and a number of calls with the \"manager\" I was told thry did indeed have a booking for me but it would not be ready for a further 30 mins.

They also wanted to retain my passport despite the fact the guy on reception had taken around 10 photos of it and and my booking confirmation in the quest to locate my booking.

I politely refused the request to hold my passport and offered them the opportunity to take a photocopy instead.

Some 1 hour after arriving I eventually made it to my room which was datated beyond belief. Despite the booking claiming to have AC, there was none

If your looking for an authentic soviet experience look no further, but be under no illusions despite it's past Grandeur this place is a present day dump

Fantastic Building and room..noisy no hot water

What an amazing building and so iconic. Magnificent location and amazing at night when lit up.
The room was very grand with super soviet furniture and decor. Alas the plumbing wasn't right as little hot water in shower but loads in the sink. Noise from the night club meant we didn't get a great night's sleep but overall glad to have stayed in a hotel with history.

Refurbishment is underway with the lovely weirdly done already with very modernistic style more like that of a trendy cafe bar than a classy hotel.

Really hope the room refurbishments don't lose their grandeur but would be scared it becomes just another standard hotel.

Hotel location is unmatched. Sub-way, bus stop, and taxi stands are at
the hotel. Remember this hotel is a historical place in the history of
Uzbekistan. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 day stay. The Rooms are great
little dated which is expected.

Front desk is great, especially Mr.Mohair and very helpful Girls Zebo,
Mokhinur will respond to your questions regarding the area and any
help you need to have a great stay at Tashkent.

Breakfast is out of this world and there are lots of choices for great
breakfast for your long day exploring. I notice that the Chef lady was
always present at the breakfast making sure everything gets refilled
quickly and nothing is out of place. I loved it.

Housekeeping is the most disappointing part of this hotel. First day's
room was great but the next day for housekeeping, like horrible no
vacuum, the bed was made by a 6 year old. No matter how many times the
front desk requests them to help the customer , there is no response.

Disappointing. The aircon is making a lot of noises, i have to ask reception 3 times to get it sorted. We were too tired to swtich room.
The cool air doesnt spread across the rooms and the room was so hot. We were basically sleeping in our own sweat.
The water pressure for shower is minimal. The wifi is bad in bed area.
The only good things are helpful staff, old iconic style of hotel and the convenient location

The hotel rooms smell old and musky. I don’t think it has been renovated since the soviet times. The kettle didn’t work, plug sockets didn’t work, no sockets by the beds because the hotel was build prior to smart technology. There is no air conditioning despite the hotel claiming it does, each room has a huge ventilation unit inside the cabinet but barely any air comes out. The room was boiling hot so the staff were extremely kind and helpful and moved our room to a slightly cooler one. Still no hot water in the new room. It was midnight and they still sent a maintenance man up who tried to fix it to no avail so I told him to give up so I could sleep. I have to say the staff are so polite and professional and the breakfast was lovely. The only issue is the hotel is extremely tired inside and needs a full overhaul.

Excellent location. 24/7 currency exchange in the lobby.

Very old appliances. Some of them are not in good conditions.

We arrive at 11:20 with no early check-in option. It was ok, not convenient but it was according to the rules. We decided to wait until 2:00 pm in the lobby. We sat alone in the lobby opposite the front-desk and three receptionists saw that we wait a room. And I was in shock when at 2 pm I was told that our room is not ready yet.
The room became ready at 2:35 pm and an administrator apologized for the delay. But it never happened with me before and I am sure it is not professional.

Hotel Uzbekistan is an old hotel and need lots of remodel or renovations. The room is old room have unpleasant odor, the bathroom broken tiles floor and the bath tub are lots of mildew and the tiles broken, worst the last day there were no hot water. No WiFi in the room/no signal, I complained 2 times both said that will send the technician to fix it, but the technician never show up. Also no AC either. The only good things about this hotel are good location and breakfast buffets. anyone want to stay at this hotel please avoid room 1212. I stayed in this room for 2 night ( April 27th and 28th)

A TOTAL LEMON

Arrived and immediately asked for their advertised Free Shuttle Service to the Airport but was told there was none. I advised them that it was because of the advertised shuttle that I booked and after some \"discussion\" I was offered a taxi to Airport and offer accepted NB shuttle information was removed from their Hotels.com listing then.The Hotel itself is tired, my room had dirty walls, missing bathroom tiles but lots of mould in tiles. It was hot with no controls to change things, noisy when window open,breakfast was rather pathetic.
The young lady who assisted me was very pleasant and kind but all that could have been avoided.
NB there are old fashioned electric plugs in the room so your phone charger will not work. When asked for a charging plug which fitted the old electric inputs was told to buy one! We did however use the TV input as at least the TV is an up to date electrical point. Was given that information by another guest not the hotel staff.
This hotel is an old hotel and looks it as much as the mattresses on the beds feel it.
As an accommodation owner myself I know what is needed and this hotel doesn't come near to making any grade that is good, that is apart from the kind young lady who I really hope finds a Hotel to suit her talantd.

Most middle-of-the-road hotel in Tashkent

The outside of the building is rather breathtaking, especially at night when they have added so many lights and graphics. Inside is an old, Soviet-era hotel...which is fine. It's totally affordable and the breakfast was a really nice touch. I think if I were to advise a friend, I would say go ahead and spend a little more money and find something else. If they were a casual acquaintance, meh, go ahead and stay there.

I stayed 1 nights at Hotel Uzbekistan in Feb 2024. Hotel Uzbekistan is a great hotel in Tashkent. Rooms are nice and clean. Hotel Uzbekistan is next to Amir Timur Square and Amir Timur Metro Station. Great place to stay. I recommend Hotel Uzbekistan for visitors to Tashkent.

Ожидал большего от отеля,так как это в центре города и один из исторических отелей. Но очень жаль что в таком состоянии отель. В номере с потолка сыпется белая штукатурка или что не знаю. Горничная зашла убираться, только воду оставила и мусор вынесла, кровать и остальное осталось даже нетронутой, не заправила и тж. Завтраки отдельная тема. С таким именем отель и такие жуткие завтраки , персонал ходиьн кто втчнм порядок, повара выглядят как будто из рынка,ты теплой водолазке и в фартуке. Официаны на завтраке кучей стоят у входа на завтрак и грлмпг галдят. Ожидал большего.

An excellent and value for money option right in the Tashkent's city centre for travelers who would like to experience soviet utilitarian architecture at first hand. Accommodation, furniture, elevators, decoration, reception, stairs, doors etc are all coming straight from the 70s. Property although very long in the tooth is kept very clean and staff is very friendly. Food at restaurant is very good. Do not compare it with other more luxurious options in the area. It's a league of its own.

I think this was the worst place that I've ever stayed in and I travel about 60-70 nights per year for my work. Some examples: The hotel did not have hot water during my entire stay. The internet signal only worked in the lobby, it did not reach to the fifth floor. The electrical outlets use old style British plugs which are no longer used in Uzbekistan. The front desk did not have any converters available but told me I could buy one from the shop on the first floor, but the shop was closed each time I went to check. All in all, I would avoid this place like the plague!

I had a great stay at Hotel Uzbekistan. The front desk staff was very friendly. The hotel has this old soviet style that I really enjoyed.

Wifi worked fine on the 15th floor.

Two complaints though: first, I didn't have hot water in the shower.

Second, not necessarily a complaint but a suggestion: their restaurant on the 17th is amazing but should also offer tradicional dishes of the Uzbek cuisine.

Staff was unfriendly and downright accusatory for no good reason. They refunded to let several of my male friends go up to their rooms, despite them showing a key. They insisted they “didn’t see my friends’ names on a list”, but it was obvious that they didn’t like seeing a big group of us all go up the elevator at once, even though we all booked rooms. There was no hot water in many of the rooms
, and one of my friends had to sleep with all the windows open in January, because the heater was broken and he couldn’t turn it off, despite the room being boiling. Everything smelled like cigarette smoke. The biggest thing I can’t forgive though, is trying to stop my friends from going up to their rooms, even after they showed proof of booking. We were considering staying another night, but instead promptly checked out the next morning, and found a hostel instead, which, ironically, is ten times nicer than Hotel Uzbekistan. I will not be staying here again and would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Bell boys are likely to accost you on arrival and the reception, which is slow if there’s a queue, and your passport will be kept for an hour or more to process your registration (you have to return to collect it yourself. Continental breakfast is provided and there are bars / cafes / cash machines / currency exchange in the lobby. The rooms to the front of the hotel have a view over the central square, those to the back have a view of non-distinct buildings but have balconies (no balconies at the front). The corridors, rooms and carpets are run down. The larger rooms seem to be on the higher floors and are spacious, but lack tea / coffee making, and have signs at the sink saying “not drinking water.” Large room had double bed, table, two chairs, bedside cabinets, desk with TV on it, wardrobe, fridge, cupboards and walk-in shower. Only a handful of inconvenient plug sockets, lighting is dim, no way of controlling the temperature. Various toiletries provided, but wifi was intermittent and my VPN wouldn’t engage. Subway station is available just round the corner (approximately £0.10 flat fare), a city map in front of the hotel details various city attractions, but there must be a security situation in the country as there are police everywhere searching bags and restricting access to open areas. Excellent location, easy for taxis to find, but doesn’t provide daily drinking water and certainly isn’t luxury, though it may once have been.

Worst experience!

I had booked 332 square feet room but the hotel alloted very small room of around 110 square feet,
Air conditioning/heating was not working, there was no hot water in bathroom, intercom not working, shutter of cupboard broken, carpets dirty and worn out .
This is a worst kind of hotel, I wonder how it claim 4 stars!

Soviet era hotel, Soviet era service. Fantastic modernist facade: after that, everything got worse. We arrived, tired, an hour before designated check-in. The grim-faced receptionist told us it would cost us an extra half-day. Excellent location, impressive building: otherwise forget it.

STAY AWAY !!! Horrible hotel! Iconic outside but looks abandoned inside. Looks old and haunted.
If you like staying in crappy haunted looking hotels then this is the place for you !
Dirty and dusty carpets. Nothing was working in the room. The AC unit was not functioning . There’s was a TV and phone but not working. The staff didn’t care. I would not pay to stay here.

This hotel is a sight to behold. It has the soviet era feel from the 1970s. The location is incredibly convenient with the metro just right at the hotel doorstep. There are lots of eating and shopping options nearby.
The room itself is pretty good and has a retro feel. I have not seen such ancient air conditioning since I was a child. The room is clean, the toilet functions properly. The only grouse I have is that the power outlets are few in the room, and are located at inconvenient places away from the bed.

Historical significance is the only thing that was worth even considering this hotel. Hot water and internet ? Good luck they rarely have. And the personalities at the front desk are rude and inconsiderate and at time sit, stare and laugh at the guests like high school
