A nice hotel. Used the pool which was needed in the heat. Friendly staff.
Wedding by the pool meant a very noisy night.
Cleaners knocked early to clean. Not enough lifts.
We’re given an upgrade - not sure what it would have been before!
3 people in the room amenities for 2, even when I called and asked first more, nothing was received… ie. cup, bottle water, nothing major!

I throughly researched available hotels in this area for my planned bday celebration in Cairo, Egypt and I decided on the Sofitel Nile. Upon my arrival and viewing of the hotel’s lobby, I knew that I had made the right decision. From my Check In, until my Check Out, everything was smooth and perfect. This hotel is nicely decorated. The room lay outs are perfect and there are enough restaurants/bar onsite, that you never have to leave the hotel. Again, I made the right decision. I hope this helps the next person(s) considering this hotel.

The Sofitel Hotel Cairo Downtown Nile was absolutely exceptional and exceeded every expectation I had. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed, valued, and genuinely cared for. The staff is truly outstanding — professional, warm, attentive, and always willing to go the extra mile. Every interaction felt thoughtful, and they made sure my every need was met throughout my stay.

The hotel has an older charm and boutique appeal that makes it feel special, warm, and intimate. It is elegant without feeling cold or impersonal. Honestly, the hotel feels like a warm hug. After long days of exploring Cairo, it was such a comfort to return to a place that felt safe, relaxing, and welcoming.

One moment that really stood out was when one of the bellmen made sure my tour guide had arrived at the correct hotel before I went out alone. That may seem like a small gesture, but it meant so much to me and showed the genuine care the staff has for their guests’ safety and comfort.

The amenities also made the stay even better. We visited the spa, and it was wonderful — the perfect way to relax and unwind. Having a bank inside the hotel was incredibly convenient and made it easy to access cash when needed. We ordered room service, and the food was delivered quickly and efficiently. The staff even set up a beautiful table so I could truly enjoy my meal, which was such a lovely touch.

The room was clean and tastefully decorated. Great view of the Nile. Lebanese restaurant on premises but greeting staff was rather rude and unwelcoming so we decided not to dine there. Went instead to another Lebanese restaurant a few blocks down the street in the Fairmont Hotel where the staff was very welcoming. Besides this one mishap, the staff at Sofitel was great, she was the one bad apple. The front door staff, the front desk staff and others randomly placed throughout the hotel were all wonderful. The only reason I gave a 4 rating for staff was our experience at the Lebanese restaurant.

This hotel is in a great location across the street from the river walkway where many restaurants and shops are. The food from all four restaurants in the hotel is first class. The staff attends to all your concerns very quickly. The rooms are very clean and stylish all have nice balconies, really great hotel experience.

The location is great, the bed is exceptionally comfortable and the sheets were amazing. However, even though we were in a non smoking room/floor, our room smelt smoky. We suspected there were people smoking on the floor and it also was coming in through the vent. The hotel seems to prioritize the comfort of smokers, you can tell that in the lobby where part of it is smoking …. So that means it’s all smoking. We went to other floors to check them out to see and we felt that no floors were truly non smoking so we didn’t ask to be moved. I cannot believe in this day and age any chain would allow indoor smoking.
Everything is extremely expensive, example, a cup of tea is $6.00 and a glass of sparking wine is about $20.00. Definitely not worth it and no ambiance in the lobby.

We really enjoyed our stay at Sofitel Downtown. The staff particularly are really friendly and helpful. The location by the Nile was perfect for walks down the Corniche. The food was good at all their restaurants, the concierge set us up with our guide for three days at prices that were comparable to others per my research. I wish I had booked some time at the Spa, but the pool was lovely too. I’d highly recommend this hotel.

Please not that 4 star in Egypt is line 2 stars anywhere else. There was good and room for improvement. The good:
- location
- safety
- very excellent beds, bedding and pillows
- free water daily
- Nice big bathroom and nice towels
- staff were friendly

The not so good:
- although we were supposedly on a nonsmoking floor, the ventilation system was pumping in smoke into our room. As soon as you got into the elevator of our floor, you can smell smoke so obviously they tolerate smoking, or they all smoke so they can’t smell it themselves.
- the hotel offered to move us, we didn’t move because we felt it would not help as The hotel clearly prioritizes smokers vs non-smokers, you can tell that in the lobby where it smells like smoke and flowers
- 2 sparking wine were $38 CDN, total rip off
-breakfast is nice but not worth $56 CDN
- no real atmosphere in the hotel.

Not much in the neighborhood but Nile boats. International prices, but not International level services. Coffee maker didn't work, safe didn't work, air conditioning was spotty. Food was good, but over priced compared to other properties. I can't recommend it.

It is important to mention that the staff is not very friendly; it sometimes feels like the ruder you are to them, the more attentive they become. The security screening staff are particularly impolite and intrusive. The receptionist provided a normal service, nothing extraordinary.
The rooms are extremely clean and offer a spectacular view. There is an oriental restaurant that I found very beautiful, and the staff there were finally attentive, offering recommendations and being very kind. However, some staff in other restaurants were not friendly at all.
So far, my deposit has not been returned, and I am still waiting for it to be released. For a five-star hotel, the service should be more courteous and better trained. I would stay here again only because of the location and the views.

Points négatifs: un peu loin du Nil du centre ville ainsi que les autres attractions.
Entrée de l’hôtel n’est pas évident. Même l’adresse n’était pas évidente pour les chauffeurs de taxi et Uber. Le Petit déjeuner n’était pas attrayant.

The main issue was the fact we were given a smoking room on a smoking floor when a non smoking room was requested on the booking. The corridor really smelt of cigarettes and the smell seeped through the doors of our suites every morning from neighbouring rooms. The room itself was tidy so issues there.

The walk from the main entrance into the hotel to the lifts wasn’t very pleasant either as you have to walk past a designated smoking area on the left, again the reception area smelt of cigarettes.

The hotel staff in general were friendly but disappointing there aren’t enough non smoking rooms available (we were told all non smoking rooms were fully booked).

It is a lovely hotel but the smell of cigarettes everywhere was a problem for us.

We had a very enjoyable stay at Sofitel Cairo Downtown Nile, which is well located for exploring the city while still feeling calm once you are inside.

The Club Lounge on the 22nd floor is worth considering if you are booking. The team there were consistently attentive, and Ahmed in particular made us feel very welcome. The food offering in the lounge was good quality. The sushi, when available, was very popular, and the mango juice is a must try. It was fresh and genuinely excellent.

Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a very good shower and plenty of space to relax after busy days sightseeing.

Breakfast on the 3rd floor has a much wider selection than the lounge, with plenty of hot and cold options. It can get busy at peak times and clearing of tables was sometimes slow, so going slightly earlier may make for a smoother experience.

We ate twice at Kamala, the Asian restaurant, and would recommend the sushi promotion. The chef tailored the sushi to our preferences, which made it feel more personalised and good value for what you receive.

The pool area is calm and the water is heated, which is helpful in cooler months. It is a good space to unwind after sightseeing. I also had a 50 minute massage in the spa. It is on the expensive side compared to local prices, but convenient if you prefer to stay within the hotel.

Overall, a comfortable and well run hotel with attentive staff and a particularly strong Club Lounge experience. A solid choice for a stay in downtow

PROS: Staff (concierge, valet, general) were respectful, courteous, knowledgeable; room was clean and fresh. Meal package was well worth the price with great views, great staff and great food (actual chefs in the kitchen)!

CON: The bank staff onsite was rude, abrasive, not well organized and took forever for the simplest transactions, there would be tellers doing seeminglynothing while one person tends the line out the door, the atm just outside the hotels bank did not work, I almost deducted a star for this but the great service elsewhere in the hotel made up for it.

Only area you should stay in downtown Cairo…Modern hotel with modern amenities and extremely professional.

Only downside is the constant cigarette smoke inside the building. That is a lot to experience 24/7 on your stay in Cairo!

Be ready to negotiate and re-negotiate everything you do in the city 😂
It’s a bit too much, but try to have a little fun with it too 😉

Great staff and very friendly service. The lobby was nice decorated for the holiday season and was expansive. The room was spacious, but needed a couple of cleaning adjustments when we first checked in. The views of the Nile from our balcony was nice as well!

The reason I can only rate this hotel a 4 star is they still allow smoking in their lobby. While there were no smoking signs in certain areas of the lobby, it was not enforced. Being from the US, I forget that smoking is allowed in other countries when we travel. It felt like everyone smoked!

This is the worst 5* hotel I have ever stayed in. The rooms were dirty after housekeeping had been and the balcony was covered in dirt so you couldn’t even enjoy it. The hotel has no laundry service or room service. We were charged £80 for 2 people to eat in a very average buffet for dinner. At check in, we were not informed about the hotel processes or amenities whatsoever, only that breakfast was on floor 2. The service at breakfast was incredibly poor, the staff stand around chatting rather than checking on customers. We had to request drinks rather than being asked. When housekeeping did attend to our room, the complimentary tea and coffee were not replenished. We also had an empty minibar. Overall, for the price this hotel is absolutely NOT worth the money.

The property was very nice but my Son and I got Food poisoning on our last night at your hotel. We traveled to Luxor the next morning after spending the night in your bathroom. My son was so sick the hotel in Luxor Stienberger doctor saw him 5times IV ‘s plus medication for the food poisoning. We only ate in your hotel and we did like what we had except getting sick. Your concierge set up a driver and a tour guide who was fantastic. I only wish my son who spent 3 days the the hotel room in Luxor could have seen the Valley of the Kings.

The spa was top tier, sauna, hot tub, steam room, comp fruit, tea water, pool area was clean and beautiful, lounge area outside with live music, three restaurants, food was amazing, the smell throughout the hotel was so beautiful. I will definitely be back and next time I will bring my children so that they can experience Egypt as well. My daughter and I are black from Chicago and California and we felt safe walking around there are a lot of street vendors and ppl selling trinkets but you can negotiate the price for sure.
