Very cool, obviously was an incredible place back in the day, we enjoyed our stay in the royal suite, some of the decor needs a bit of attention if its going to be a proper 5 star. Worth the money all in all and I would atay again.

Harassed me to pick my breakfast option the afternoon before I was supposed to have breakfast. Then on day of breakfast woke me up at 7am to tell me that what I picked wasn’t available. When I asked for toast instead, they gave me one single toast, waiter was not pleasant at all.

Bed looked and felt old. It would let out a large creak like a car was in the room any time you moved on the bed. Sleep was terrible as a result.

Every other hotel I’ve been to in Sri Lanka the staff would take there shoes off when showing the room, particularly the bathroom. The main at reception did none of this.

When I made my complaints on departing, reception just said ‘ok, no problem’.

I should have stayed at Shangri la again, instead of here. Service was 100x better. Was worst service I’ve had in Sri Lanka in 30 years of travelling. This trip alone I stayed at 6 hotels; and this was by far the worst

The most amazing hotel I’ve ever stayed in.

One of the greatest hotels I have ever stayed in. This place oozes quality. No wonder Prince Charles and Camilla stayed here when they paid a visit. The location in great but the staff are another level. Every detail is finely crafted and every need is jumped upon by well trained staff. Honestly the staff can’t do enough for you, they made our stay very memorable need. The food it top notch and if Michelin were in town they would surely get a star. The breakfasts are to die for. The rooms are generous and comfortable and the housekeeper was a diamond. Absolutely nothing could be improved upon. If you are in Colombo and need luxury, don’t go anywhere else.

This historically significant property is an absolute gem of a boutique hotel in the midst of Colombo. The restaurant is also wonderful, Such a surprise as we found it randomly and had no idea that it was the former prime minister's house and that Charles and Camilla had stayed there. Our room next to the beautiful courtyard pool had a four poster and a private terrace and a huge gorgeous modern bathroom. It is an old house but the decor is v. cool! So much so that they have a chain of shops that the interior designer started. We couldn't resist buying some mementos there. Loved our short stay and so went back on our way home also. The staff are wonderful. The massive fruitbats - if you're lucky enough to see them fly over the pool at night - are wondrous!!! We felt honoured to have stayed there.

Tintagel is a hotel with soul and history which make it an destination in it self.
If you are into boutique hotels don't miss a stay at Tintagel. The location is good for whatever you want to do in Colombo. Its a full service hotel with a highly recommendable menu with high quality food provided.

It’s Potemkin’s Village - Don’t be fooled... AVOID

A pretty facade, but... not all is gold that shines... be warned - this is a very shabby hotel that has long past its days of glory. It is in a state of disrepair and in desperate need of a major refurbishment. There was nothing “Executive” about our room. It was dirty and smelly, infested with mosquitoes. We requested sheets to be changed on arrival, still the bad odours in the room remained. We figured it originated from the bathroom, apparently a blockage in the sewer pipe, which we later on worked out was a problem previously reported by other guests. Staff confirmed that there was a bad smell, changed us to another room on our second night. The hotel manager offered us a private dinner which we thought was a gesture of compensation. We accepted, but our appetite was kind of gone. Anyways, it was nice food, but we were shocked when the staff presented us with the bill afterwards - what an audacity. The free bottle of wine certainly didn’t make up for the ordeal. Promised us a refund for the first night that never came through. The hotel never responded to our written follow up. The owner seems to have moved on to other business ventures and the hotel is perhaps just a sideline cash generator. Our advice - give the Paradise Road Tintagel a miss if you can so the owner finally gets his chance to refurbish this run down place. Do not get tricked by the cute facade...

Rustic charm in both the rooms and the common areas. Though some of the plug points and fixtures could do with a upgrade. The breakfast area is open and can get quite hot mid year. The crows may also be an irritation for dining outdoors.

Arrived in Sri Lanka for a quick 2 day layover before heading off to Thailand. We arrived at the hotel extremely early (3am) as we arrived earlier than expected. Hoping for the best we were accommodated in a room until our booked room was available later in the day. The front desk person was incredibly pleasant and helpful. Now to the best part...when we got our booked room it was upgraded to an executive suite, complete with a separate living room, massive bedroom and even larger bathroom. Oh and it had a walkout hot tub. After this experience we didn't want to leave. The only knock is the location as there isn't much within walking distance since the hotel is in a residential area. This is one boutique hotel worth visiting. Like us, your expectations will be pleasantly exceeded

Paradise Road Tintagel was a fabulous introduction to Sri Lanka!
We arrived there from the airport on our first night of our trip, and immediately we were delighted with the choice. Impressive colonial style building with fantastic & friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble. It was in a great location, set in Colombo but in an area of relative tranquility.
The rooms were very luxurious and impressive with ceiling fans and deluxe designer style bathrooms. The bar and restaurant were exemplary - everyone in our party of 5 had a fabulous meal after choosing from an impressive set of drinks options.
Breakfast was of an equally impressive quality, again served in the lovely surroundings of the colonial courtyard.
After our day of sightseeing in Colombo it was a delight to return to the comfort of this boutique hotel.
Everyone in our party said that they’d love another stay at Paradise Road Tintagel.

Hotel was very comfortable and the food excellent. However, the it is starting to get a little tired outside with paint flaking off the walls and window frames. The balcony area we had was somewhat dirty. Staff could not have been more helpful and the afternoon biscuits was a nice touch.
My biggest gripe was with the bill. I thought that I paid in SL rupees (with my card/PIN) only to find out later that the hotel converted back to GB pounds at a significantly lower rate; lost about 10%. I discovered later on card receipt there is a box to tick for currency. This strikes me as slippery practice so BEWARE.

Pros: beautiful, unique decor and style, high quality bedding, nice bathtub with head cushion and a candle, quality bathroom amenities, excellent neighbourhood, friendly staff, delicious Sri Lankan breakfast.
Cons: 30% service charge and taxes added to restaurant bill, not enough electric plugs in the room, no comfy chairs or sofa in the room (but there are in the common areas), if you want Sri Lankan breakfast you have to remember to order it each day the day before.

Great piece of history in a fabulous location

We were only there one night but had a great weekend in Colombo, and the hotel was just what we had hoped. The room is getting a little used, but the bed was very comfortable and the food was delicious. They were very accommodating about our breakfast request and generally the service was very good. It would be great to see a hotel like this remove unnecessary plastics, such as drinks straws and the wrappers around the biscuits and soaps, and also no need to have the A/C on 20 degrees! It was a fridge and it too some time to get the room back a more comfortable temperature.

We spent 4 nights at Tintagel. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and the rooms and facilities were perfect. Our meals were delicious. Be sure to have the Sri Lankan breakfast at least once. This hotel is perfectly located in an a quiet, elegant part of Colombo yet only 10 minutes by tuk tuk to the Fort area and markets. If we returned to Colombo, we wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

Great old mansion with great charm in superb location of Colombo. Dinners were excellent and well seasoned. Staff attentive especially at breakfast which was warm and delicious. Great if you are looking for privacy and the comfort of home. Other guests also seemed to appreciate the quiet and privacy. Would stay again

For $350 a night I’d expect an electric plug near the bed to charge my phone. When I moved the nightstand to look for a plug, the back was absolutely filthy. Service wasn’t great. I waited for the breakfast I ordered the night before 30 extra minutes when it was scheduled for 7:15 and I had a flight to catch. I also ordered dinner for room service. Soup was cold and the portions were tiny compared to the prices.

We had a wonderful time. Hotel is beautifully decorated, the room had everything you would need and more (very comfortable bed) and the food was delicious. The pool was perhaps the only small let down - it didn’t get much sun. There were lots of little touches which made the stay more enjoyable, such as plenty of bottled water, fresh flowers and toiletries.

Worth splurging on - or if you luck into a deal.

A beautiful building, done up in a slightly over-the-top, very dark and plush style. Quiet, tucked away in one of Colombo's nicest neighbourhoods, it's a great hide away if you can afford it - or find a last-minute deal. The staff are extremely helpful and the food is good - and it even has a very swimmable pool.

Simply the best

This was without question one of the nicest properties I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying. It is a 10-room boutique hotel in the prestigious District 7 of Colombo. The rooms are beautifully appointed and the lobby and common areas are filled with photos and paraphernalia from a day gone by, except for here. The library is generously stocked with leather-bound classics. The staff was courteous and attentive. I was a little concerned about the size of the 20-cover dining room, but learned that discerning guests from around Colombo come here for the food and service. The other comments mostly agree with my assessment, but there seemed to be a question about value. I think my rate was USD125 with breakfast, so not only was this hotel exceptional in every way, its value in my opinion was also superb.

Wonderful hotel in quiet district of Colombo

Amazing hotel - we had such a great stay (3 nights in April 2017). The staff were excellent both before check-in and during our stay; the building is gorgeous and has rich history; the rooms are ever-so-slightly tired but that is part of the charm of the place. We also stayed at the sister hotel (The Villa) in Bentota and enjoyed that just as much, if not more so.

Top notch service and friendly staff. After one night staying at this boutique hotel, we felt like we were home away from home. Slept very well because the bed is super comfortable. On our last day, we checked out at 12pm and went for city tour till 4pm. When we returned to the hotel, the hotel manager saw us sitting on the sofa at the lobby area and asked us what time is our flight. We told him ours is midnight flight. He was so kind and offered us an empty room to freshen up ourselves before our flight. We will definitely stay here again. Lovely hotel with friendly and helpful staff.

Downtown Colombo Historical Hotel

This hotel is convenient to all of Colombo by Tuk Tuk. The staff is remarkably friendly and accommodating. My only advice would be to clarify your room choice with them. I booked an executive suite with a balcony, per the photos of the room. Instead we landed a downstairs suite right off the kitchen, near the bathrooms and next to the cleaning closet. Less than desirable.
