I'm sure this hotel was stellar when it was first opened. With in years due to poor maintenance it started to lose its charm. So, general review score reflects the situation. After nicely asking our room was upgraded/changed due to a fresh paint odor. Location of the hotel is quite OK. If you prefer to stay closer to the airport this is a nice option. In case you need to go to downtown you can easily use public transportation lines. There's a convenience store in walking distance. Staff is friendly and helpful.

This was the second time I have stayed at this hotel. The first was five years ago, I had a wonderful experience. The more recent visit was good but not as I remember. The room I stayed was a little outdated. Finally there is no parking at the hotel. I had to pay for parking across the street. Overall I still liked my experience, and would not mind going here again.

This is like a motel 6. Everything is outdated. No sound proof. You can’t really lock the door except the amateur bolt lock. The cleaning staff knocked on the door early in the morning & opened the door. Very unprofessional. I only stayed 1 night but it was more than enough. The bathroom & room was old.& outdated. I won’t stay here again

Based on the pictures of the hotel, I expected a lot more from the business, but I was sadly disappointed. When I first walked into the business, I noticed the condition of the hotel appears to have diminished a bit. It felt more like a motel than a hotel. The service at reception was average; nothing to write home about. Unfortunately, this was only a precursor to the quality of the rooms. The online pictures showed the rooms as bright, inviting, and cared for; however, the rooms I received were a stark contrast to those expectations. The rooms were dingy, cramp, a table with a damaged corner, dirty walls with multiple stains, and a whole bunch of scuff marks everywhere around the room. The bathroom was dirty with mold growing in the cracks. It seems there was a lack of care in keeping things presentable and sanitary. For a hotel rated 8.4/10, I expected a lot more from the reputation. Sadly, it seems the rating was more a representation of perhaps their past achievements and not their current performance. It was my last few days in Vietnam and this left quite the sour taste in my mouth. I returned the keys within an hour of receiving the room and left. I found a different hotel that had better quality, better service, and cleanlier than The Alcove

It’s a pleasant little hotel: clean, quiet and a great little cafe downstairs. It’s relaxing but a bit too far from the city centre, we recommend using grab which was an excellent service. The room was a bit too hot for us as we were on the top floor.
There is a phố place just down the road which is great and has very delicious soup! (Phở bò Nhớ - 113B Nguyễn Đình Chính, Phường 15, Quận Phú Nhuận, Tp.HCM)

It’s not as advertised. At least not currently.

This may have been a nice hotel at some point but it is no longer the 4-star hotel it is billed as. More like a 2-star. The room was dark with only two tiny windows that didn’t look out on anything (one was more of a vent hole) and some glass brick for light. It was depressing. It also looked like someone had been living in the room. The shower was moldy with a slimy feel to the floor. The furniture wasn’t really clean, with stuff on the coffee table and stains on the couch. The lobby had one or two motor scooters parked in it at all times, blocking one of the few places to sit (as if we’d want to sit there). The restaurant is no longer open and there is no breakfast. There is a small cafe in the courtyard that is nice but they offer no food besides yogurt cups. The courtyard as actually a nice place to sit. There isn’t breakfast available near the hotel unless you want Pho (which we like but not for breakfast)

We were depressed by the room and situation and requested for them to let us out of the second and third nights, but they refused so we stayed. We put up with it but did not enjoy our stay. Fortunately, we’ve had much better places to stay on our trip and this one was just a rough patch.

There are better places to stay for a similar price in Ho Chi Minh City.

We loved the location, it isn’t close to the city centre but there is plenty to do, many places to eat, and very quiet for a Saigon hotel. The room was clean and comfortable, although rooms on the first floor get some noise from the open lobby.
The restaurant hasn’t reopened yet but that didn’t bother us.
The one quirk is that the hotel is on a septic system so they ask guests not to flush used toilet paper, and to put it in a bin instead. We’ve seen this many times before, but never in a hotel room. We worked around it using the water hose/bidet and shower.
Despite this, we would return.

The property was great and on a back alley. The cafe was Closed for some reason and the only negative point is they hadn’t called the taxi for the next morning ride to the airport and We were 15 min late but it all worked out. They did put us in a suite and packed us a “brown bag” breakfast to take with us to the airport which I thought was really nice. The hotel is very quaint and beautiful architecture. I would definitely stay here again.

The worst hotel experience ever...

Dirty hotel.. Dust everywhere. It was also listed as 4 star hotel however it was 3 star hotel so I requested cancellation of the rest of stay to Hotels.com then I talked to the hotel manager on the next day. She said \"It will be done by Hotels.com you may see the cancellation result within a week or more. We have nothing to do at this moment.\" However the manager did not inform it to Hotels.com and I have not gotten any refund until now.

The hotel has a beautiful old vintage library theme all around. the location is in an alley so it's not facing a main avenue which makes it quieter that other locations. It's not close to the city center, mostly closer to the airport but if you need a place away from the downtown core noise this is perfect, besides taxis are cheap in Vietnam. The staff is very helpful, always available, providing tips on where the food places are at, where to exchange money, etc.

It is quirky and based on a bookshelf theme. Staff ate excellent and very helpful. car from the airport worked very well. Just make sure you are at the International terminal for pick up.
However the room (which was above the basic category) did not live up to expectations. the room was dingy having little natural light and the furniture was make shift. It was all coloured black which made the room even darker. i was inly here for a night Had i been here for longer I would have asked to change.
Hotel is midway between the airport and the city centre. because traffic is so bad it takes 30 mins to either. If you are on a budget take the bus. It takes little longer than a taxi and the service is frequent. Download the Grab app for a reliable taxi service where you won't get ripped off.

Amazing hotel in a quiet street in Ho chi Minh which I am sure is hard to find. Lovely little touches like a jar of chocolates with the turn down service. As we left before breakfast hotel supplied us take away breakfast. The staff were knowlagable about places to eat locally as restaurant bookmark was closed..I Wish my stay was longer so I could of had a read of the amazing book collection in the lobby.

The Library look at the front was unique and helpful staff at concierge. You could not flush toilet paper which was a bit hard to get used to but we managed as it had something to do with the areas sewerage system. The staff in the kitchen had very little English so communication was hard. But had nice breakfast choices. Airport pick up and drop off not expensive and very prompt.

A bit more attention to details is in order but an acceptable and friendly place to stay. Samples....key light is out in bathroom...yet was serviced without a report of needing to change. Soap was never added in bathroom. one small round bar for five days. Breakfast was to be provided upon early checkout, per arrangements the night before. But was forgotten. I would recommend for shorter stays. Perhaps a five day stay was a bit too long.

This is a small, boutique hotel, so don't expect a gym, swimming pool or meeting rooms.

You get a quiet location, that really feels like coming home at the end of the day, with welcoming staff and comfortable (not luxurious) rooms, as well as a simple restaurant serving high-quality food. I held breakfast meetings there - it has just the right casual / professional balance.

Nothing is very far away in HCMC, and Grab makes it so easy to get around, so don't be afraid to find shelter a little out of the centre. You own't regret it.

Hotel is near to airport so good for late night arrival. An inexpensive taxi ride will take you there. Local area has not much to offer, but good enough I guess. Breakfasts cooked to order are good and they try hard to please. Room was dark. Water pressure was strange. When taking a shower, best not to have someone flush the toilet or you lose water for quite a while in the shower. I don't know what they can do about that. But people here are nice and we are happy to be here.

Short Stay but Good Experience

We only stayed one night as we were catching a very early flight and wanted to be near the airport, but not too far from District 1 and other attractions which this hotel's location satisfied. Staff was very friendly and spoke good English. The location of the hotel is in a small alley and so it's very quiet, but also not too far from most places you'll want to visit. It is a little far to walk most places though so be advised of that. The lobby is really charming with a collection of books you can borrow. My room was a bit dated, but it was spotlessly clean and the wifi and AC worked well. My only complaint is the bathroom floor can get a bit soaked after a shower if you decide to use the rainfall shower head instead of the detachable shower head.

Every morning at 515am a trumpet will sound off from the army base next door. This will definitely wake you as the hotel has little to no soundproofing. Also, you will hear nearly everything through the paper-thin walls, windows and doors. Very poor for trying to sleep. Very good if you want to stay awake all night long.

The water was turned off for hours without any notice from staff. Also they were quite rude when I complained.

The hotel asks guest not to flush toilet paper and to throw it in the trash can as their pipes cannot accept it. (Small pipes). This causes the bathroom to smell like fecal mater always. Very discussing.

The room cleaners removed two robes from the hotel which the staff questioned if I removed. My coffee cups where stained with coffee as they were not cleaned well after use. Very bad cleaning staff here.

The restaurant called the bookmark has good bear and that is about it. The rest of the food is terrible and overpriced for HCM (I know I have family here and have already been a few times this year).

The hotel is located in a alley way that is dangerous to walk down due to traffic and thin streets. Not like other good hotels in the city of which there are many.

The staff is a rude as they are apathetic.

I would never recommend this hotel. Please don't let the nice picture fool you like they did me. You will regret it.

I liked the staff Services especially receptionists like Giang & Truc who were willing to go extra miles to make guests happy. The room had comfortable bed, nice sofa & roomy closets & aldo provided cooking utensils with dishes & dish soap etc. However I didn’t like the way the bathroom was designed since you had to be very careful when showering since the bathroom floor can easily be flooded with water. Also air conditioning system was not good since the airflow was always strong & the room temperature no matter how you adjusted, after one hour, could be too cold or too hot.

We loved how cute the lobby of The Alcove Hotel was. Very welcoming after 19 hours in transit to get there. The food at the restaurant was delicious. Only ended up having breakfast there. Would have loved to try dinner there but the restaurant was closed at 2pm everyday due to Tet. Its a out of the centre of down but getting a Grab is cheap so it was fine. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

We loved our stay in the Alcove!
This little hotel is full of character and just around pretty much everything, from little cafes and restaurants to the city center which is just 20 min away in a taxi, and 10 min away from the airport.
The breakfast was delicious and we loved that they have so many options for it!

We only stayed one night, but it's super close to the airport, staff were lovely, room was clean and comfortable. If you're staying in Ho Chi Minh longer, probably look for something closer to town but if you want to be close to the airport for a quick trip, this hotel was lovely. It's not too far out, we walked into to town in 45 mins and would be a quick taxi.
The aircon in the room could have been better but otherwise it was clean and spacious.

Awesome stay, both for leisure and business.

Best hotel stay ever, accommodating staff, quiet, walkable to the hustle bustle of streets in 3 mins. It will be my first choice in HCMC from now on. Kudos and keep up the great work.
