Great, comfortable room with a balcony over the water. At night we saw the northern lights beautifully and strong, a few times. No restaurant in the hotel, but plenty of restaurants within a 5 minute walk. Grocery store / small mall also just a 10 minute walk. Located in on a small island and just 2 hours drive from Reine and Å (the last of the lofoten island) we originally came for 1 days but stayed an extra night with no problems and they gave us a laate check out at 2pm with no additional charge.

This is the second time I stay at this Scandic Svolvaer. The room is clean, has view of the water. Staffs are very helpful. Located near the city center, shopping, sight-seeing tour operators and restaurants. The room price is very reasonable. Just the right price point for the location.

This was our biggest disappointment of our Norway trip. We spent 12 days traveling down from Tromso to Reine. The location was great but the hotel looked like it was falling apart. The sliding door to the patio didn't close. The staff was supposed to send someone but did not. The exterior looked in need of some work. If it wasn't such an expensive hotel, I may have overlooked this but for what you are paying you have better choices in Svolvair.

There is no air conditioning anywhere in lofoten, which is completely fine. However, at this hotel in the sunroom, which is where you have breakfast there are no windows that can be opened. As a result, you are absolutely sweating, to which point I was becoming nauseous and could not eat breakfast. They need to change the design so you can open a window to get some airflow. Furthermore, when we went down to have breakfast, there was not one table available for us to sit at. The hotel has a small little patio seating area, which is lovely; obviously with the seating area being outside, you are going to get seagull poop, however, during the entire three day duration of our stay, they had not clean one of the patio chairs with the seagull poop on it. They just pushed it off to the side. Lastly, while we did book the standard book with a sea view, I was surprised at how small this room was. There was barely any room to open a There was barely any room to open a suitcase, and if you managed to open one suitcase, there was nowhere for you to walk.

At 77 years old, we lots of trouble getting up and down the stairs with our luggage. Won't stay here again for that reason. We had the buffet. The food was average at best.

Excellent breakfast, also great to have free tea all day. Room was really quiet.
Only negatives were leaky shower that sprayed everywhere and broken bathroom door handle but these didn’t affect our enjoyment.

Scandic group of hotels definitely has some standard to it. Dinner buffet was reasonably priced and has a good variety. However, this hotel has no free parking available for guests and one would have to pay for parking. Considering the location of it being on Lofoten where driving is almost a necessity, I find this very odd.

A great place to stay in Svolvaer. The staff were very welcoming, and after a delayed flight arriving in the evening it was great to walk in and find an evening buffet available! Breakfast also had a wide range of options and was the perfect way to start the day. The location in Svolvaer is very convenient for everything and being on its own little island is obviously pretty scenic. I'd happily stay here again.

Nice place, good food. One issue: We had a room with a balcony overlooking the water. During most, maybe all, the hours of darkness, the light was on outside and could not be turned off from the room. I suppose this is to make the hotel look attractive from a distance. However, this means that the view you pay for ends up being obscured by light and reflections. Fat chance of seeing Northern lights when you have light pollution right above your head. AND the hotel makes a big thing about having an eco-conscience and the constant lights you can't turn off rather undermine this (yes, I'm sure they are LEDS - but then so are the ones inside which you are always encouraging us to switch off!) Personally I find all this \"we wont wash your towels and we won't clean your room unless you ask' rather insulting. So it kind of makes sense, but do you really think we won't notice that you are also trying to reduce your costs? The leaflet that suggests that we won't 'sleep with a clear conscience' if we ask for too much is going too far, and really a kind of emotional blackmail. Tell head office to back off on this.

The front desk staff were very friendly and efficient, especially “Dougie”. He was so nice to let me check in earlier than schedule.
Also, I really liked the breakfast buffet. Lots of options.
The Scandinavian design of the building, the location of the hotel, the cleanliness and view from the balcony of my room—so delightful.
I’ve been all over…and this hotel ranks way up there!!!

Overall a very nice stay.

The room while compact was nice and had a small table and chair. While we appreciate eco-friendliness, the toilet paper was really rough and nowhere to hang the hand towels. Best part was the varied breakfast spread and complimentary tea and coffee from a proper machine which is much better than an individual machine in your room.

Located off the main strip. Paid public parking outside the hotel. Reception was helpful, explaining the parking situation and suggesting local restaurant options. The weekend breakfast spread was outstanding. Room was a little dated, but we had a comfortable night.

Mixed feelings about this place. It definitely screams for an upgrade, everything is extremely old and the room was tiny. We got the room with \"best view\" as they describe it, with a balcony. That made the room great. Most other rooms overlook a parking lot. Carpet going to the room was disgusting. Dinner at the hotel was not available because it was sold out to the tour groups, which I suspect is the case every night. Breakfast was free and just amazing- breakfast of champions! With Norwegian, European and American offerings. It was huge and great. They offer tea and coffee 24hr for free.

The hotel was well located. It had some amenities eg bathrobes. But no tea & coffee making or shower caps. However, plenty of beverages available from the dining room free of charge so that made up for it. The room had a little balcony which was nice to sit on in the sunny weather.

Our flight was delayed so we did not check in until midnight. We were met by very courteous receptionist and our very late night check in went smoothly. The room was rather small but clean. The black out curtains worked excellently as we were there in June with 24 hour daylight. The included breakfast was excellent.

A great location. I had a room with terrace facing the harbor. Very centrally located. Spotlessly clean. Heated bathroom floor was a real plus. Excellent breakfast buffet. Wonderful, friendly and helpful staff.

My neighboring room housed a cigarette smoker. My room was smokey when he was often on his terrace smoking. I reported it to management twice, but he continued to smoke the entire week I was there.

Stupendous Scandic!

All staff were very warm and accommodating. The rooms are simple, but very clean and comfortable, which was perfect as I spent most of my time outside. Breakfast is fantastic and lobby/ lounge is spacious and many separate areas to work, meet friends…whatever.

We have a Scandic card and generally are very happy with our Scandic stays. However, the Scandic Solvær was not up to standard. We booked almost two months in advance, but when we arrived they said there was a key problem and so we waited. Then they admitted they had no room for us. We believe they have been overbooking to take advantage of COVID-19 cancellations, especially ones that appear overseas (we live in Norway, but book through our home country expedia). We complained and they suddenly found a room. However, the tv didn't work and there was a musty-sewage smell. We contacted the front desk and they said they would deal with it; they did not. We asked the next day; neither were fixed over two days. We also called in advance about our reservation and never once had the phone answered. Finally, they do not have enough parking, but provide no information about this. This was the most expensive Scandic we have stayed in Norway. We have never complained before, but we ended our stay early, switching locations. The Scandic Solvær is not worth the money, appears poorly managed, and was sub-par by Scandic and Norwegian standards. One bright spot was the hard-working cleaners.

The location was great, and so was the staff and the restaurant. I honestly would have given this a great rating but it looked like the only cleaning done to the room was making the bed. The photos on the wall were falling off, the coffee mugs were used (and empty tea was torn open and not replaced), and there was a lot of hair and dirt in the bathroom. If they clean better it’d be great!

We stayed here for 2 nights during our recent visit to Lofoten. The hotel is located right on the water and rooms are comfortable. We got the room on ground floor right next to the entrance door which was bit on inconvenience at night with people walking in/out but overall the stay was great. The breakfast offered by the hotel was also fantastic.

We spent almost 4 days here and I must say were were very pleased with both our stay and our service we received. Our first day there was very impressionable. We arrived at 9:30AM after 14 hour travel day and we were exhausted. Upon arriving we discovered like most places in Europe the check in was not till 3PM. Their staff could see we were wiped out and did everything they could to accommodate us. First they fed us and the manager \"Doc\" let us know after lunch that he was able to get us a room by 12. I am not saying they can do this for everyone, but wanted to note that they went out of their way to make our experience memorable. The views were absolutely stunning. The food was really good too. We enjoyed our stay and would absolutely recommend this location to anyone seeking to visit this amazing city in Norway.

Room has poor amenities: no refrigerator, no in room safe, no tissue paper, no closet, very small. Room was not cleaned daily except for clean towels; coffee stain left on sink. Rooms also very noisy and heating system is antiquated and is either too hot or too cold. Finally, no elevator and no porter so you have to carry your luggage up to 2nd floor.

As to staff, some knowledgeable about local hikes, some clueless, so no consistency.

Room was small with the bed partially against the wall on one side - the top of the bed. We moved the bed over to allow easier access to both sides of the bed - but space was then fairly limited on both sides! Otherwise the room and en-suite were good and we had a view across the harbour which was lovely. Free tea and coffee great. Complimentary use of 2 bicycles was a great bonus. Usual comprehensive breakfast buffet. Overall a bit expensive given the size of the room.

Perfect jewel of quiet with fantastic views

The hotel is really fantastic with a beautiful situation and view close to town but far enough that you do not have the noise factor from Tourist busses and bustle. The rooms can be very small as was the case with our stay although ours had a wonderful small balcony right on to the Bay of Svolvear. Be careful to book a later room just to have place for two suitcases. Breakfast is good. Bar is good. Near to all sights and transport routes.

The Scandic Hotel is located in the perfect spot to explore Svolvaer and the surrounding area. Nice off-street parking lot and a delicious breakfast, were the highlights for me. Unfortunately, I did have a room that looked out at the parking lot instead of the fjord or city, but I bet you can request this ahead of time. Next time I will know! Cheers

Nice waterfront hotel in Svolvaer

The Scandic is one of the best located hotels in Svolvaer - splitting a small island with another hotel. This means great views if you have a water side room and a more honey feel than some if the bigger hotels in town that look put of place. Scandic has the classic red wood design and smaller scale that matches the area. It's really charming.

In a few areas though, they could do better. If you are on the first floor, it can be quite noisy at times because the hallway opens directly into the lobby/restaurant and also has the bathrooms and office. So beware of where you are situated. Also, the rooms are not always the most conveniently designed - no plugs near the bed nor the table, so charge your phone on the floor unless you have a really long cord. Not the most convenient lighting - almost none at the far end of the room. At times the staff could have been a little more helpful - offering suggestions when the restaurant was closed for the private event, having run out of water But not offering up advice ti get to the store a shirt walk away. But these are just things to be aware of going into it.

Pretty ok, could make some room for improvement.

The bathroom was nice and recently updated. Old telephone modern TV with the ability to plugin your own device. Older furnishings nice big windows you can open for a breeze. The hotel clerks were great they were very friendly compared to others on our journey and helped us find the Northern lights on the bigger bridge. I would highly recommend the Scandic Svolvær however the Thon looks more updated however we did not stay there. The free breakfast could use some improvement the eggs were empty by 9am and were never re-filled. An egg casserole would have been nice and if possibly an omelet station. Probably my fault for not asking more.

Our room had a nice view on water and rorbus. Excellent breakfast with many choices. Clean room and clean bathroom. Since the room is a little small, we enjoyed sitting in the lobby at night with their sofas and chairs to relax.

Maybe we shouldn't have imagined that all the rooms had a view of the water - given the price for the room, we have to say we were disappointed to look out onto the car park with cars parked right outside our window. We felt a lack of privacy as a result. Maybe one has to request a room on the other side of the corridor? Apart from this, it was a lovely place to stay, with friendly and helpful reception and an excellent breakfast buffet in a room overlooking the harbour. Location is good for sightseeing and the surrounding mountains are beautiful.

Great location and beautiful views

We enjoyed four nights here and really loved the hotel for its close access to the town and fabulous views from the restaurant. We felt it could be better managed, the cleaning of the rooms was not the best and we felt that information provided to guests was unclear. Breakfast times given on the in-room TV's was wrong and on check-in we were told that the restaurant finished serving dinner an hour later than so. The staff did not seem worried about rectifying these mistakes.
