Good for the price, just one think i was not happy about is that the room I booked was not available up on my arrival, so I was offered a different room saying its a free upgrade for a day (which i didnt ask for). And was asked to move to a different room the next day when i was trying to relax after a busy day. That was annoying as I had to repack my things while i was dealing with the jetlag and tired. When I went to the new room, the AC was not working properly so had to go back and ask them to get that check. The filter was blocked and it was blowing the dust straight to the bed. However the maintenance guy was nice and apologetic. This could have been avoided if one of them would have checked the room before asking me to move in to that room. So they need some improvement in how they manage these things.

This place is basic. The area isn’t nice, and the hotel itself could really do with a face lift. It’s ok for one night if you’re coming from or going to the airport like we were, but the hotel next door is much nicer.

We stayed here for several nights at the beginning of our trip around Sri Lanka to give us some rest and to visit Colombo. The hotel is nice enough – a little rough around the edges but perfectly fine. A/C and fan in the room, hard but big bed, safe, huge shower with strong water pressure and an abundance of hot water. Only thing we didn’t like was that the room had no fridge – in the heat of Negombo, cold water was essential so not having a fridge meant we constantly had to buy cold water as and when we needed it. Luckily there is a small convenience store 1 min walk form the hotel that was selling basic drinks and snacks for a bargain price (1litred bottle of water cost about 25p). We had a room with a balcony which offered lovely views of the beach and sea. We went in September and the waves were way too big to go swimming in. Also, as soon as walked along the beach we were hassled by relentless hawkers. We ended up sitting in the hotel garden instead (padded sun loungers and free towels provided) – the hawkers would still call out to you but were not allowed to enter hotel grounds, so that offered some degree of peace. For ease, we ate at the hotel for dinner twice: limited menu with nothing too special on it, your standard mix of European staples (burgers and pizza) with one or two Sri Lankan meals. All very reasonably priced – a chicken pizza cost about £3 (just be wary of the bones!). There are a few restaurants within walking distance of the hotel along the main road,

The room I got initially was filthy and after complaining they offered me a sea view room witch wasn’t bad but not worth for the money they were charging. No hot water no drinking water coffee or tea. You need to go to the reception for everything. I moved to Paradise Beach hotel which is few blocks away and I was glad I did the move. Beautiful room with sea view and the price is almost the same that I paid for Hotel J. I will never stay again at Hotel J and will never recommend anyone.

Nice ocean views from the room. The queen bed was just two beds pushed together. Cleanliness could have been better. Constant hawkers at the beach became pretty annoying along with the construction happening. Aside from that it’s a great location on the beach.

Hotel J was a nice place to stay for a couple of nights to get a feel for the beach town. The facilities were good and the breakfast was nice. The WiFi was not great in the room however it worked well outside near the pool. The room had a UK type power outlet which was useful for us as foreign travellers.

This hotel didn't meet my expectations. It was a boring experience overall, they do not have a room service and there was nothing much to do either as the beach wasn't clean, you need to go to a bit far for the swim area which is fine. Somehow this place didn't have the 'wow factor' as I was expecting.
However, it has clean rooms and washrooms. Usual breakfast and good food to order. It is a fine place to stay for a night.

Good stay if you like the beaches.

Overall good stay. We had a quick and easy check in and was met by smiling staffs when we arrive. The room was large and the facilities are quite adequate. The only 2 drawback are that the hotel only provides a thin bedsheet as blanket and the curtains do not filter out sunlight well which makes sleeping in daytime difficult. In room safe is provided but there are no fridge or bottled water provided. I also like the swimming pool area and their bar makes good drinks. Nearby along the beach, you could find street food stalls and people playing kites, beach activities.

Good place to spend a night before flight

The hotel is OK. Location is Ok, on the beach, but I wouldn`t swim there. Rooms are not very big, but clean. Staff is friendly and helpfull. I liked the place for this price (appr. 28 EUR). If I have to spend a night at Negombo, would remember this hotel.

they could do so much more with this hotel. If they cleaned out the beach and put different out door furniture and a fresh coat of pain is all this needs. Little things as putting scotch tape down when painting might help and please re-decorate. If i can buy this hotel i would. Put lights outside by the pool have a pool bar ... and a tiki bar or something have a theme

Can be hard to find as entry is down small path to the beach. Room was a bit shabby with no nice vibe. Breakfast was great. Staff were friendly. Deck chairs between beach and the pool are the selling point.

Bearing in mind Colombo's airport is quite far north of the city, we wanted to be near and not stress ourselves with big luggage and timings. Negombo area seemed to be the right spot, and appears to be a touristy place for the beaches, however, forget about this. It was a horrible dirty beach, and not a nice place at all comparing to the incredible beauties we've seen over the past days through Sri Lanka. We stayed at the Hotel J, right by the beach along the main Lewis Place Street. True that right next door was the luxurious Heritance Hotel, but the costs per night were there nonsensely even higher than at the Galle Face in downtown Colombo! Hotel J was very cheap but we knew what we were getting, so almost no service, basic room with no facilities at all bearing a pool no one used. I can not really say something bad about this place since we knew beforehand what we were getting. It worked for us as our last night before the flight, and we needed nothing else than a room at a decent place, so if you fall in the same circumstances as ours, this will be the right choice. I would never ever consider staying here for more than a night nor I would stay again.

Compact, friendly and ideally situated.

An ideal budget, yet pleasingly and surprisingly comfortable place to be based in order to explore, relax and simply chill out by the sea. The rooms are large and simply but adequately furnished. The bed is large, there is an efficient ceiling fan and an A/C. The ensuite bathroom has a large wet room and powerful shower. The sea facing rooms have large balconies and the view is stunning especially at sunset. They look over the pool and garden, beach and sea. Its an ideal place to have drinks before heading out for a meal or then going to the roof bar where the view is even better. The whole hotel was open and spacious, bright and very clean. The staff were conscientious, happy and keen to be friendly. There are many restaurants and bars within a few minutes walking distance and there are always taxis and tuk tuks to take you further afield.

The hotel itself was OK and in a good location.
Plenty of hot water.
The pool area was quite nice.
The room was quite shabby and in need of some redecoration and maintenance. The curtains were inadequate and people on next balcony would have been able to see into the room.
Not too bad overall, just needed a lick of paint and a little TLC.

quality 3 star hotel

Just booked the room for the night that we were flying out of Colombo at 1.20am. Very pleasantly surprised at overall standard of hotel - a good choice for a reasonably priced holiday stop or for someone, like us, needing a place to put head down for a few hours without paying a lot. Clean, bright, modern, good room facilities including safe, flat screen TV, excellent customer service - wake up call, organised quality car transport to airport, decent western style meals (not much Sri Lankan).

Over rated budget hotel.

If I had booked through agoda I could have got breakfast too for the same price. Beach is dirty and pool is too small and very dirty and the water tasted salty and over chlorinated. 10 dollars more you can get a much better hotel. With breakfast and coffee maker in the room. It's OK if you are looking for a place to stay for the night and you are adamant to be in negombo. Still is not worth is openion.

There has definitely been some photoshop going on for the promo shots of this hotel. We were quite disappointed with this hotel as it didn't live up to expectations. The biggest disappointment however was the \"service\" we received from Hotels.com. I am supposedly a Silver member and expected to get an appropriate response to my queries regarding this hotel. WE wanted twin share (not an option listed at the time of booking) and a airport pick up from Colombo airport. It took days for Hotels.com to respond. There were 2 responses. The first asked me to call to give further details. I called the number given and it was a fax machine. I logged another call asking for them to call me. Several days later I got another message asking for my phone no. This was already provided at the time of booking, non the less I provided it again. I'm still waiting 3 weeks later for the call. The second message came around the same time as the first but was signed off by another person. It said I would have to call the hotel myself as they wouldn't contact them. As if I'm going to call Sri Lanka.. esp when I'm supposed to be receiving silver service from Hotels.com. When we arrived at the hotel we discovered than Hotels.com had not bothered to contact them at all. Not happy!

Stayed there 4 nights, it's a nice place, not too fancy, on the beach, near lots of restaurant, decent food at the hotel itself. Rooms are large, good AC, a bit of let down, could use a good clean up, the walls in our room had marks of dead insects, someone probably left the door open and those pesky mosquitoes found their way in so there was a fight and it clearly was lost by the bugs :) NOW, there is construction across the street, another hotel, so it is noisy 7 to Dusk, a bit frustrating, and it will be like this for a long long time, if only they could restrict it to 8am to 5pm and not 7am to almost 7PM? Other then that it is close to airport (under 20-30 minutes) and is a decent place for the money. Staff is great, and courteous. So it is a Mini Jetwing Hotel, (it is actually part of the Jetwing chain) less the frills. Tourists beware, because it is a Tourist/Beach Resort area, the LOCALS are a little bit more on the gouging side. Tuk tuk to Negombo should not be more then 300-400 Ruppies, avoid the unnecessary Tuk Tuk Guided tour at 2000 Rupies, where in the end they tell you it took too long and you need to pay more, SCAMS! Hotel has own Taxis and Tuk Tuk, so use them :) Enjoy your stay at J !
