Overbooked accommodation. Alternatives provided.

Well, I turned up at the hotel shortly before 11pm after an evening flight, and I found that the accommodation was overbooked. This was slightly annoying, but to be fair, I was provided with alternative accommodation. The first night I spent in an apartment with a room with two beds and there was a bathroom. I was just glad to have a room to get some sleep. The following day, I spent time in a different place. This time the room was more spacious and there was a fridge and cooker there. I did not stay at the booked accommodation, but to be fair, I was provided with alternative accommodation at no extra cost to me.

Lovely place, great location, had a great time, well looked after. We had a couple of minor issues but they were sorted within minutes. Very quiet place. 2 minutes nearest bar with great views, lots of restaurants within 10 minutes. Gardens lovely and relaxing.

Absolutely perfect location, minutes from the Riva promenade and easy to also get up the hill to viewpoint and to the beaches. Facilities a bit basic but we cannot fault for the price paid and there was lots is space, so better than a small hotel room. Staff Nikola was very helpful arranging transfers - as quiet season we were also able to check in early and out late, which was so appreciated especially with two kids! Overall we had a fantastic little break 👌

The stay was great , I called the owner when arriving and within 5 minutes he had brought the keys . There is also a self check in option available . However that was not made very clear ahead of time .

Stayed twice, both occasions for two nights at beginning and end of an island cruise. Great location with easy walking access to the city and waterfront. As it is just on the edge of the main areas but near to open spaces and greenery it was a haven of quiet and cool to return to after the bustle of the city. Had an apartment, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms & well appointed kitchen which was useful. Owner, Nico very pleasant, considerate and most helpful.

Off the street sort of secluded. Host offered help with bus schedules and places to see. He brought me wine when I arrived and said how I had wanted to learn about Croatian wine. The are lockers to use so when it’s checkout you don’t have to worry about luggage while spending time in town.

Peaceful and spacious but central

We stayed in the first floor apartment with balcony. It was very comfortable and like a home. The three single beds were very good quality and comfortable with pure cotton sheets and the liebre with large comfy sofas meant we had somewhere to escape each other. Lovely Shower room. Views of rooftops and sea and the garden. The garden was unusual as every ground floor apartment had their own section partitioned off and shaded with a real vine and sometimes meshing. Beach was 15/20 minutes walk away. Go to the gravelly one as the city beach is terribly crowded. The hotel was in a lovely corner of the front with nice bars and restaurants very nearby. Nicolau was very helpful from beginning to end.

GREAT LOCATION BUT NEEDS IMPROVEMENT

The Garden Apartment Horptel has a great location close to the main harbour-front and many good restaursnts, bar and tourist shopping. The hotel itself could, with improvements, become an excellent property. Our upstairs apartment was nucely finished and physically very comfortable. What is missing? The owner Nicola seems to try very hard but he needs to give more attention to detail. The small kitchen is poorly equpped for glasses, cutlery and utensils. None of the sinks are fitted with plugs so guests waste a great deal of water. Most of the light bulbs on the property were burned out. The newer flat-screen TV did not work as there was no antenna connection. The outside walkways on property are finished with very course crushed rock. It is impossible to walk in or out without creating a great deal of noise and bothering other guests or nearby residents. During our one week stay, there were two very loud construction projects going on in close proximity. One of these appears to be minor and should not be a long-term problem. The second project is ypthe construction of a modern 4-star hotel which will be located adjacent to the nearby waterfront. This project will be a long-term disruption for all of the businesses and residences located nearby. My wife and I will probably return to Split again but will make some serious inquiries before staying at the Garden Apartment Hotel.

Superb location and very clean

We stayed one night. Had trouble finding the place because google maps has the place on the wrong side of the city. Put the postal address in and we found it.
The place was very private as it was accessed via a locked gate. The appartment was very clean and had three spacious room. We were on the first floor and had a small balcony.
The best and winning aspect is it is only a few seconds walk from the old town prom and then very close to the old city.
My only reservation is the Devore and furniture which is very old fashioned and not in any was cozy. I would stay again

Great staff. Very helpful and accommodating. Carried our luggage, gave us a map of where to eat etc., and just overall friendly. They gave our friend a storage locker (for free) to store his luggage even though he wasn't staying at the hotel. I'd stay here again for sure!

We are a family of 4 (2 adult children) visiting Split and stayed at Garden Apt Hotel. We had a rental car and had difficulty with locating the hotel as well as parking, however our GPS was not guiding us well. Upon arrival we were greeted by the host who was extremely helpful and friendly (spoke English fluently) and gave us area information as well as restaurant recommendations (you will need to make reservations well ahead of time if you want to eat at a particular restaurant). The apartment was very cozy and clean, and was spacious for our needs with 2 bedrooms , 2 bathrooms and a beautiful patio, and a kitchen. It is in the historic section and a perfect location to walk to all historic sites, shops, restaurants, beaches, etc.
Unfortunately, a member of our family had a minor medical emergency and we asked the host where we could find a clinic, he immediately walked us to the clinic (which was close to the apartment) and made sure we got our needs met, and also checked in with us later that day to make sure everything was ok.
Overall, we were extremely happy with our entire stay in Split and highly recommend Garden Apt Hotel!! It is about a 3.5 hr drive to Plitvice Lakes, which if you have the opportunity, should not be missed!!

Charming!

What a charming little cottage steps from Old Town. We only had one night here, but it was incredibly comfortable sleeping arrangements. Loved the feel of the patio area and stone walls.
I'm not sure if we were just incredibly lucky that the property owner was outside when we arrived, but had he not been we would have been at a loss on what to do or where to park. It was unusual that we dropped off our luggage and then the owner hopped in the car with us taking us what felt like far away from where we were staying to park, but as it so happened was just down a few flights of stairs. We weren't sure what was going on we just randomly let this guy hop in the car and give us directions on where to turn. It all worked out but a little more direction on Hotels.com on what to expect upon arrival and parking would have been more comforting.

It looks that the so called front desk is actually located nearby - after 5 min we ringed the bell of the apartment, the staff shows to us and lead us to the apartment. We are very lucky to find a car parking space in front of the apartment.

There are several steps up into the garden. The apartment we had was on the ground floor, very clean and spacious but not sure all apartments are as big. No signage outside but easy to find and in a quiet part of the town. Host was extremely helpful.

This hotel was very difficult to find via taxi. Do not seek hotel name go by street address. This hotel needs signage as there is none. Once inside great facilities,great location,very clean and helpful staff. Highly recommended. Walking distance to restaurants,the boat harbour and great shopping.

Very nice although not really a hotel

Lovely clean, modern studio - we stayed in the one bedroom apartment and it is exactly like the photos on the website. Very comfortable bedroom and nice new bathroom but no drawers, just some hanging space so ok for short break.
In a nice quiet area just a few minutes up a shallow slope from the Riva. Supermarket nearby. No restaurant in hotel but owner recommended a few restaurants nearby which were excellent.

Excellent location but wouldn't stay again

The apartment is set in a leafy garden, to the left of the Riva. It was easy to get to and from town.

However the apartments are furnished in a very old fashioned manner. The one I had was very dark with no view at all and only one window I could open. It felt claustrophobic. It had stupid little teacups. I know that it's petty but I like a proper mug.

The bed was very comfortable but I was quite cold as there is a draft underneath the side door.

The host was pleasant but I only saw him at check in. I didn't like Split and I wouldn't return. It's just a shopping haven for cruise liners.

Excellent location in Split, very near Dioclesian's Palace. It would have been difficult to find without the directions of my taxi driver (it's not on a main road, you have to walk about 5 minutes), and I did not see much of the owners after the initial check-in, but otherwise a great experience.

Nice apartment , quiet though very close to front.

Approx 20 minutes walk along front from main bus station. Our bungalow apartment was a little dark inside but very quiet despite being so close to the front, and 10 minutes walk into the old city. Nice to be able to cook our own meals, with a small supermarket only a few minutes away. We can't thank the owner enough as he looked after us when my wife had a fall and needed to go to the hospital - an appointment was made and his brother took us there, staying with us and bringing us home - so kind of them.

Great location but the rest was disappointing.

Not what we thought we had booked as it was described as a cottage but in reality it was a dark apartment. There was a lot of noise from the room above and the bed and linen were subpar. The shared garden which was a long way from the apartment had a lovely view. Just wasn't a lot of attention to detail compared to the other B and B's we have stayed at so far in Croatia. Ironically, it was the most expensive.

Good value and a great Location

The apartments are surrounded by a high brick wall and steel gates. This limits the view from your windows of course but, the walls formed a private courtyard, covered by a translucent fibreglass roof that allowed us to sit outside in the evenings (or in the rain) with total privacy. There is a private garden (shared and available to all guests) which had flowers, trees, furniture, a BBQ and a view of Split Harbour. We had a two bedroom cottage which could be divided into two one-bedroom rooms and each bedroom had an ensuite bathroom with shower - very nice. There was a shared kitchen with basic supplies and air conditioning in both bedrooms. The large shuttered windows could be completely opened but the view only extends to the courtyard. Location wise, this hotel was close to perfect. We could be \"at the heart of the city\" in 5 minutes of easy walking. There are lots of little grocery stores, liquor stores and restaurants in the immediate vicinity so it was VERY convenient. The owner was helpful and efficient and the price was fair so I would definitely recommend the Garden Apartments. One hint - the gate is usually locked and there is little to indicate that you've found the right place (just a small \"Sobe\" sign - meaning 'Rooms\"). Just ring either of the two doorbells and someone will come down and let you in. If you leave the gate and turn right it is literally 5m to the staircase that starts to path to the top of Mt.Marijan - wonderful views from the top.

Close to Adrian s Palace

The place was a little bit dificult to find folowing the gps , its a one way dead end street , but is very well located , close to adrian palace , restaurants , markets . The manager gave me a lttle cottage with 2 rooms , 2 bathrooms , kitchen , etc ,very nice . There is no tv , but this wasn t a problem . The place is safe , you can park on the street .

We were made to feel extremely welcome from the start by Nickola. He gave us some useful hints & tips about where to go. The apartment was functional and impeccably clean, something we value highly. It was centrally located but also quiet & relaxing. Nickola was also kind enough to let us leave our belongings in the room on the day we left, offering us fresh towels so we could shower & freshen up before we headed back to the airport for a late evening flight.

Really great room close to Split marina

We stayed here for three nights in the Garden view apartment about a week ago and it was absolutely perfect for us. We just wanted a base we could use to explore Split and the surrounding area (Hvar and Krka waterfalls are very accessible via coach tours/the marina). There were some nice (cheaper) bars/restaurants near the apartment or you could walk 5 minutes and you were on Split marina. The room is very secure with a lock on the front entrance and the actual room and it was spotless when we arrived. We walked round to one of the beaches one day and it wasn't too far away. I Would definitely recommend this apartment.

On the southern edge of Neum, a bit tricky to get to by car. Milan, the owner, was very helpful, and accepted payment in kuna or euros as well as the local marks. Clean and well air conditioned rooms.

The rooms were clean, well air-conditioned and quiet. The kitchen had a fridge, stovetop, plates, cups, etc...
The customer service was excellent and drive us to the airport for 40Kuna.

Great apartments right of the Riva

This was my favorite accommodation throughout a three week trip through Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and Greece. We booked late and the room was ready when we arrived, but it was made up with a double bed instead of two singles. The host offered to put us in a larger apartment for the first night instead, with a double and a single. The next morning our original room had two single beds.

The location is fantastic, a block from the Riva, among many great restaurants and bars. The rooms are clean and big, with kitchens. Despite being right in the center of everything, the place is very quiet. A private courtyard with a wall and a locked gate keeps the place very isolated, which was nice.

The only drawback is that it can be hard to find. Google got us right to the door and the correct address was posted, however, there were no signs that indicated it was indeed Garden Apartments. We rang the bell and our host came, so it was fine.

Garden Apartments close to everything

This is a great place if you like a little cottage experience close to old town. It consists of a line of 6 cottages (I think) which have little patios to sit on and a large garden area overlooking the water. It is simple but that works in Split because it gives you the feel of being in more local and more historic environment. Staff if very very helpful. No breakfast or coffee on premises, so have to get that at a close by local restaurant. We would stay there again.

absolutely perfect location

this place is perfectly located...short walk to the Riva and the Diocletian Palace. The 2 brothers who run the place really go out of their way to make life easier for their guests. They showed my husband where to park and actually took him there, helped us carry our bags up and then on our way out drove our luggage up to where the car was parked so we wouldn't have to carry it up the hill. And all this without being asked!!! Wished we could have stayed an extra day. Accomodations were really comfortable with a nice kitchen, 2 bathroooms (very clean) and even a little patio area to sit in. Would definitely highly recommend!

Nice 3 bedroom apartment close to the old city

We were surprised by the size of the apartment. It consisted of three rooms, was clean and airy. The kitchen/dining was well equipped but didn't have coffee/tea/sugar/salt/pepper. You need to bring your own! The owner/manager was very polite and helpful. It would be a good idea to get directions as the Hotel is not signed and accessed by stairs and also a small side street. It is close to the old city, bus station, restaurants, grocery stores, markets and two of the marinas. We would thoroughly recommend it.

The location is absolutely perfect. Extremely close to the downtown and palace. The cottages are warm and homey, but show their age in places. The shower door and faucet were broke in both bathrooms. The hot water lasted for less than one minute of a shower, and there were not enough blankets.

While the narrow streets and steps are not taxi or big-suitcase accessible, it gives the feeling of living well in Split. two things make it worthwhile: the clean and spacious apartment style rooms, and the host. Diwar gave me a choice of rooms, flexible checkout, and for a fee, a ride to the airport. Having a delicious restaurant at the end of the street with a harbor view is a bonus.

Just perfect!!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights we couldn't believe how lucky we were with this appartment!! So easy to find, 10-15mins walk along the water front and up one flight of stair. Nickoli came down and met us, very nice man!! He even ran down the street to get us a cold beer while we unpacked then showed us to the garden terrace were he left our drinks to enjoy with an amazing view over the water!! We couldn't have been happier with the whole experience and can't wait to go back!! A must stay in Split...also a fantastic restaraunt 1min walk at the bottom of the street, we ate there every night, great food, great price!!

Nickoli was very helpful, he owns the property and could not be more nicer . Over all it is a nice place to stay the larger units are probably more comfortable if you plan to spend a whole week there. but for a couple of days it is a nice place to stay.

very close to all interests, Nickholi, was very courteous helped us to finf apartment and when he came down the hill to show us took and carried all of our luggage to the apartment being handicapped , it was a great gesture, then he offered us refreshments, and when I wanted to tip him and he most graciously refused and said he was his guest. The only negative thing was it could use a little TLC . Other than that it was a good choice and staff were very polite and helpful.

Not Horrible, but Horribly Overpriced

Lots of trade-offs with the Garden Apartment Hotel. Not really a hotel and very difficult to find, but the location is actually pretty good. The room was very basic, and the bathroom microscopic, but you're lucky to find a room in Split in July. Bottom line was that the place was acceptable, but a very poor value.

Did not live up to expectations

Good points:
Close to old town, comfy bed, hot shower.

Bad points:
Room not cleaned until last day of 5 night stay, and we had to request this twice. Poor value for money - room was like a converted shed with badly filled plumbing pipes in every room, hardly any natural light, ill-equipped 'kitchenette', tiny shower, cobwebs in many corners. Might have been fine for a 2 night hostel stay but I definitely would not stay for any longer (if at all) and don't understand why it's advertised as an apartment. I've stayed in much nicer, better value hostels.
Owner was helpful enough on the first day in pointing out resort amenities but pretty inattentive with regards to providing a receipt for cash payment and in having our room cleaned.

Great place and fantastic location

Our apartment was spotless and beautiful with a patio shaded by grapevines. We parked right outside on the street and our car was perfectly safe. It is just a 5 minute walk to the very center of this very happening town so we never used the car once there. I would highly recommend this place. The owner Nikola is very helpful and attentive

Great place

Close to Diocletian's palace, about 15 minutes walk.
Plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes in walking distance. Supermarket less than 10 minutes walk.
Bus station and train station about 20 - 25 minutes walk.
Met at the agreed time, given a map and talked through where things were.
Downside is internet barely works with the shutters and doors shut. Fine outside on the patio. Lots of bugs so we opted to keep the windows shut and aircon on.
Stayed in the 3 person cottage and it was plenty big enough.

Lovely, self-catered cottage accommodation.

We rang the hotel after arriving in Split on the ferry from Ancona and the owner/host promptly rode down to meet us and helped us get our luggage back to the hotel. Although our cottage was not ready, there was storage for our bags and we were happy to leave them there and go off to explore the area. If you are expecting luxury, this is not for you. However, if you want somewhere within easy walking distance of all amenities, space to spread out, use of kitchen facilities, and quiet, Garden Apartments are great. Lovely restaurants nearby, serving traditional Croatian food.

Hard to find BUT it's worth it

We staid in the cottage # 4 And we were very impressed with this little cottage with a terrasse. It far from the street (no noise) and close to the Old Town. There was no t.v. And it was perfect like that. We loved it

The staff was extremely helpful and the location is not bad very closed to the old town. However the apartment we were given was dark and a bit cold. It was not well sound proof and it lack charm.The price was ok so altogehter we were satisfied with it.

Gem of a find. This is exactly what I was looking for. Location was walking distance to the old town. There is a cracking restaurant at the end of the hill. Owner was very helpful. Wifi and air con apartment. Room was perfect. Would definitely stay here again.

Booked three nights but stayed only one due to ill health! Nikola the proprietor could not have been more helpful and understanding, many thanks to him. Room as described, no problems. The apartments are in a quiet location in walking distance of all the attractions, we hope to return soon.

Paying 70 EUR per night seems expensive for this room. I would say 50 EUR would be a fair price. Other than that, the room was clean and well located.

Good simple hotel, close to city and marjan hill.

Simple hotel, very close to the centre of town, Marjan hill is almost right outside the hotel door. Very accommodating staff, walked us to our rental car and found parking with us closer by, then took our bags to the room for us. We also bumped into him in town later looking a bit lost and he took us back through his house to the apartments. He also offered to be our personal sat nav in the morning to make sure we made it to our ferry ok. Gave us so many tips on places to see, how to get around and invaluable information about the one-way system for getting the ferry the next morning!

Room has its own outdoor patio area, nicer for a longer stay. As well as a kitchen and dining area although we had no use for this.

Unfortunately we were given twin beds instead of double as requested, but no big problem just for one night's stay.
