The staff were all lovely.
There was a Porsche event. We were most definitely ‘extras’ to this event. Breakfast in particular. Couldn’t find our booking? Assumed with Porsche event and once explaining (both mornings) that we were just regular guests we were then sat in a seperate area. Very strange experience . Staff were lovely none the less, John in particular.
At arrival, again once explained we were not with the Porsche event, we were told to drive down to the guest car park and the porter would see us to our room. No idea where this porter was? No instructions. Found Elvin at the gate and he kindly called a porter for us.

Fab location and amazing to be able to go into Portmeirion at night, but all felt a bit old fashioned especially for the price! The room was very hot and so was the dining room. Nice breakfast but the toast was cold and staff on first day there (in restaurant in evening and breakfast) were not friendly.

Midweek treat

The check in was superbly efficient. We were sown to our room Bridge house and settled in immediately. The room was very clean and had a lovely view of the campinile.
Weather was glorious, a complete feeling of calm and quiteness throughout our stay. Sat looking out over the estuary for hours, thoroughly enjoyed exploring the village and it's history.
Staff bilingual, friendly and helpful service excellent.
Breakfast was of a high standard. Plenty of choice well prepared.
Check out quick and efficient. Highly recommend a special experience in unique setting.

We were lucky with the weather and our stay at the Castell was made more special by the excellent staff, customer service. Our room was huge and comfortable. We were disappointed with dinner at the hotel but couldn’t fault dinner at the Castle restaurant. Breakfast was faultless. Beautiful location, village, gardens etc. Transport to and from the village was immediate, efficient and enjoyable. Lots of local places of interest to visit.

We had a good time staying at Castell Deudraeth.
We enjoyed visiting Portmeirion after hours when it was quieter and we could wander round while it was emptier.
Staff were helpful and efficient.
Our room was a suite. The bedroom and bathroom were nice but the little lounge area was quite dingy and dark and we didn’t use it. It could do with a makeover to make it more homely.
The bar in the evening and breakfast in the morning were good.
It’s expensive but it’s a very unique place and staying onsite is special.

Worth to stay

This is a great village and you can enjoy running and taking photos after all the tourists have left at 18:30; The room is good and clean, and a big washing room. We enjoyed a great dinner in the castle, the price is acceptable, and the service is very good, but you are just able to allow to get at the table on your booking time, I think it should be adjustable but unfortunately we have to wait in the waiting area but allow to order a drink.

We enjoyed our stay in the castle and the lovely meal we had in the restaurant. Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend staying here to others, the experience of this magical place was even dampened by the rain. We were lucky enough to see it with blue skies one day and rolling mist the next, which captured different moods.

2 Days Of De stress

We needed a bolt hole to spend some time together. After seeing Portmeirion on tv we felt it was due a vist. Throughly enjoyed the experience, slick check in, porter collected us from private car park & deliver us to our accommodation.

We overlooked the mountains & water front, wow.

Food / service was excellent. The overall team were very welcoming

The room was clean & quirky. The walks were relaxing, the scenery was magnificent.

Not cheap, but certainly memorable for the right reasons

We had room 1 in the castle which was massive and had everything we wanted. The restaurant was excellent and breakfast was superb. Best location for hotel..wonderful staff.

I would not say room was luxury but it was nice .. clean, and lots of nice touches in keeping with the village history, and what made it so special was the amazing location overlooking the estuary....
The staff at the hotel ..we were in room 4..were so lovely and helpful...best we have encountered in any hotel..they all chatted..joked and were very attentive without being overbearing..this made the hotel 4 star....food was also lovely..Sunday dinner and breakfast..served with the best view ever.

The Castell was a Beautiful hotel, Portmerion was a beautiful place to visit with lovely views and walks .The suite we stayed in room 3 was lovely and we had no issues as raised in previous reviews.

The menu in the restaurant was nice but breakfast was cold on arrival at the table that’s a small problem quickly resolved.

Not a Prisoner!

We thoroughly enjoyed an overnight stay in visiting The village of Portmeirion, Wales.
Beautiful surroundings just outside the village itself, within easy walking distance to the village.
A large well appointed spacious bedroom and excellent quality and selection of food served both for an evening meal and at breakfast.
Would thoroughly recommend to anyone wanting to visit the area.

Worth the visit, but not the sleep!!

Great experience to visit Port Meirion. We had a 2 night stay in one of the village apartments and it was terrible, but that was properly just unlocking for us get a room with basically no curtains and a street lamp directly outside. The returns were great and the grounds are amazing.

Nice stay in Castell suite, overall good.

We stayed one night in a suite at the Castell. Suite was good, spacious, separate lounge area, lovely bathroom (incl bathrobes, slipperettes, towels, but no face cloths), small kitchen but only basically equipped, with only cups/mugs/glasses, lovely bed, but very average pillows, warm throughout (incl an electrical fire in lounge), dinner good in lovely restaurant/conservatory, but a little lacking atmosphere (perhaps some nice background music would be nice), very good breakfast, wide range of items to order, all staff very good, ample parking at the Castell, but central car park on a separate site if using the hotel and other accommodations. There are shuttle buggies to transport you around the site, which was efficiently run, with friendly drivers. Overall, I think we would have enjoyed being in the waterside hotel rather than in the castell half a mile up the hill. We had a snack lunch at the hotel in one of the small lounge areas, which was nice with lovely views over the estuary, but we didn't see the rooms. Overall, our stay was expensive, but it is obvious that the castell, hotel and village need a lot of money for upkeep to the good standard presented. A visit to Portmeirion is a nice experience, which we recommend.

Not so good

My girlfriends birthday and she adores the hotel.

I called forward to order some chocolates to be put in the room with a little note saying “Happy birthday from me”, when we got there they were just put on the side with no note saying who they were from nothing.

I paid over the odd for them too so not happy with that, did the same a few years ago and it was perfect for half the price.

For the price paid for this property there were many disappointments. The bedroom was very crowded with an incredibly crazy mix of old garage sale or thrift store looking pieces. There was barely room to lay a suitcase down with knocking into the strange 1970's lookibg glass and black wood open TV stand.

The public rooms had considerably more charm and were in better condition. The dinner at the restaurant was quite a remarkable production, but be warned very very pricey, well well over 100 pounds.

The view and surrounding grounds were beautiful but more than one day is needed to explore as the drive up to this establishment is lengthy.

We had an excellent time celebrating my 70th birthday. The surrounding were superb with friendly and welcoming staff making our stay so good.
We started out for a walk around only getting as far as the pool area with the excellent weather leaving no option but to make it our location for the afternoon. It was evening after a delicious meal that we continued our exploration around the village.

Although the room was a little small the service was friendly, efficient and nothing was too much trouble.

This and our walks around the village woodland and coastal path will make us come again.

Excellent 3 night stay.

Staff were polite and helpful throughout our stay.
Room was clean and spacious with tea and coffee making facilities. There was also the option of purchasing the odd cheeky bottle of wine.
Castell Deudraeth is just a short walk from the village itself, where there is also a heated pool opposite the Portmeirion Hotel which Castell guests can use.

Whilst it's great to walk around the village during the day, I would recommend a walk at dusk, once the daytime tourists have left. Watch out for the rabbits as they tend to come out at that time.

We opted to eat at Castell Deudraeth 2 of the 3 nights and the food was excellent. Service was quick without feeling rushed and the quality was well worth it.

If you plan to use it as a base once you have finished exploring Portmeirion itself, it's about 15 mins from Harlech and 30 mins from Caernarfon.

My friend and I ate at both properties and the food looked beautiful but the taste was lacking. I am not sure who supples the vegetables to the 2 properties...but, the vegetable dishes with the carrots, mushroom, and potatoes were tasteless, though artfully prepared by the chef.

Nonetheless, the properties were beautiful and the architecture was very ingenious and artistically pleasing.

The place is picture perfect. The architecture is fascinating. The visitors are a mixed bunch because there are so many reasons to go to Portmeirion.
But the best bit is after the day guests leave and you have the place to yourself. It feels like you really own a part of it.

Great stay

Beautiful old castle, set in lovely grounds at the top of Portmeirion Village. Hotel is very clean and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Free shuttle bus takes you to and from the village and Portmeirion Hotel, as often as you like should you want it, or it’s about a 8 minute walk down hill into the village. Would definitely return

Lovely place let down by noisy guests.

Lovely place, friendly helpful staff, nice room, unfortunately let down by very noisy wedding guests. Had to remonstrate with said guests on the first night and then complain to reception when this didn’t work! Second night better but could still hear loud music up till about midnight, not the place for a quiet break!!!
Ate at the castle first night, food well cooked and presented but overpriced we both thought. These few points spoiled the almost idyllic setting and would put us off returning.

Very pleasant stay for my 70th birthday. Good food and choice. Excluding the restaurants, the Cafes and bars are only ooen during the day. Also the maps provided area bit vague in places especially find the way from the castle to the village carpark. Also we found the map and the paths through the woodland areas vague in places and not always sign posted on the paths. There was a tree trail which wasn,t on our map at all. All in all a nice place to stay for a few days

Disappointed

Very disappointed with the Castle. It has been stripped of all its charm and character and furnished with cheap modern furniture.

Lovely stay with easy access to The Village. Can certainly recommend eating at the Castle, the food was wonderful. Would like to go back in warmer months to enjoy the gardens and a drink watching a sunset

I stayed at Castell Deudraeth - an eighteenth century residential castle built on the site of an earlier medieval castle. It is walking distance from picturesque Portmeirion Village, a unique bed and breakfast tourist resort to which Castell Deudraeth guests have full access. The hotel rooms are modern, clean, and comfortable; the staff are friendly and efficient; and the included breakfast is superb! A lovely getaway!

A beautiful place to stay, the village room was lovely with buggy or minibus transfers to any other part of the village, dinner at the castle was excellent (10 min walk from the village uphill if you fancy the walk) and then breakfast at the hotel was amazing just a few minutes walk downhill from the village overlooking the estuary. Not a huge amount to do in the village on a cold and rainy day but would definitely recommend for an overnight stay or longer if you want to discover the surrounding area as not far to the Llyn peninsula and Snowdonia national park. Would not recommend for people with mobility problems as the village is built on a steep hill with lots of steps if you really want to explore. A shame but no dogs allowed anywhere in the village. The restaurants are quite expensive but food was amazing with excellent service, perhaps could benefit from a cheaper more family friendly place to eat in the evenings as taking the whole family would have been very expensive. Would definitely recommend for a one or two night stay as a couple. A couple of shops were open but weirdly not much pottery for sale in the village, you would have to go into Porthmadog a few miles away where I believe there is a larger shop. You won’t find anywhere else like it to stay in the Uk, truly a unique experience.

A night in Portmeirion

We stayed for 1 night in the village and the location is undeniably unique. We stayed in Fountain 1 which was clean, comfortable and nicely furnished. All the staff we encountered were extremely friendly and helpful and the really do add to the experience. As it was a rainy day, the village was not overly crowed but still became an even more special experience in the evening when the day trippers had left. We had dinner in the Castle, which was very good for one of us, and passable for the other one (vegan). Breakfast at the hotel was really good for both of us. The Prison TV series is available throughout the day on your TV which was a little added extra - if you're a Prisoner fan.

Beautiful Place

Had a lovely time, weather was fantastic which does help.

We found the castle to be very well situated for the village although food and drink at the castle is a bit on the expensive side but as a special treat its fine. The castle itself is very nice although beds are a bit hard.
We were there for my husbands birthday and the castle staff left a card which was a nice touch,

This was a wonderful place to visit for a day. not much else to do nearby but a fun day trip or 1 or 2 evenings. We enjoyed seeing the beautiful architecture and doing some hikes in the woods nearby. The hotel restaurant was wonderful (one of the best meals we had in all of the UK).
