Hotel very quiet as we were there out of season. Nice welcome, pleasant staff. Our room was quite old fashioned (but is is a very old hotel so in keeping with that) but big with a comfortable king size bed, plenty of drawer space, but only space to hang clothes on a rail or hooks in the corner of the room. We had a setee, TV, a tea/coffee station with biscuits. We had 2 oil heaters in the bedroom which were needed as the room was quite cold even though the old fashioned radiator was on, it was in a bay window and behind the thick curtains at night. We had a large ensuite bathroom which was up 2 stairs. Very clean but both the bathroom light and the shaver light did not work. We informed the staff and they double checked immediately and then offered us to change rooms as it wouldn't be fixed until Monday. We were quite happy to stay in the room and manage but they couldn't apologise enough. Resteraunt/bar area very nice. Food was good but limited menu. Breakfast was OK, choices of juice, teas, coffees, cereals and jams, toast and several choices of cooked breakfasts. We didn't have a long wait to be served as we were the only guests eating/drinking and staying at the hotel. Hotel car park is over the road but it not very big and can get busy in season as the public can park there too, so give your registration number on your arrival. Bus stop just by the hotel, 2 minutes to walk into the village. Plenty of local footpaths. Beddgelert station 2 mins away.

The room was spotless, the bed was so comfortable and was a king size instead of a double. The staff were so friendly and amenable, the only downside was if you want a lie in and you’ve ordered breakfast you won’t get one as breakfast is served between 7.30am till 8.30am also towels not big enough for a shower or bath

Two night stay - If you’re looking for somewhere to stay after walking the mountains then this is ok. If you want a comfortable stay I suggest you explore the other hotels in the area.
We had to wait to check in - one person was covering both the bar and the reception. Our room was spacious but like a fridge - we had to request an additional plug in heater. Had this not been provided it would have been a very unpleasant stay.
The bar was closed when we returned to the hotel at 8pm on the Sunday evening had we known we would have stayed out later it was like returning to the Marie Celeste
Even though we prepaid for our stay we were asked both on our arrival and when checking out to pay for our accommodation and breakfast. All in all not the best experience.

The web page states Free breakfast with every room type, but the confirmation was room only. When i asked about this i was told i had chosen this option. We were in room 38, in the roof. The room was cold on arrival, the heating was off , it never came on, but there was a small plug in heater. The window didn't close and the wind kept opening it. The lift was adjoined to the room so it made a terrible noise every time it was called. This room looks nothing like the images on Hotels.com
The bar area was nice with a good selection of drinks, and the Menu has nice options. The guys working there were nice. Parking opposite is free. I had to pay extra for breakfast. i feel i was mislead

I'm sorry to say but didn't have a good experience. Fixtures and fittings were poor. TV didn't work much, poor signal. Latch on window broken. Curtains fell down so they moved us to another room. TV still didn't work that well. No heating only towel rail.
Room cold unable to fill the bath up as only the shower worked.
Would I stay there again no.

Booked this hotel for a weekend due to location to Watkin Path. Staff so kind & helpful, Rooms clean & tidy with ensuite bathrooms including baths in two out of 3 rooms booked. Use of lift to rooms. Breakfast selection plentiful and hot, evening meals superb & well priced. Hotel also offers a cool room to store food & drinks for your climb, as well as offering a snack pack to buy for your day out. The Goat Hotel is based in Beddgelert & walking distance to amenities. We will definitely be booking for a return visit.

My room here was nice & had a good peaceful sleep. But sorry to say that's the only positive from my stay.
I arrived to check in at the time stated on booking but cleaning was still in progress No sign of any other staff. A cleaner went to find someone & a lady arrived. Reception area seemed to be someone's office? I was given a key and told my room was on first floor. No information offered on arrival re. facilities and no guest information book in the room.
Lovely large bath towels provided but would be nice to have a smaller hand towel too? Also bath is a slip hazard due to overbath shower so please consider a non slip mat for the shower. I couldnt work out how to lock door when going out so had to leave unlocked!
I had no idea re. restaurant times as no information so took a gamble and went down 6.30pm. The place was deserted. I asked if food was being served and was given a table. I ordered my meal ..fish & chips .. was nice but nothing special. Im not sure but felt like it was more like a frozen supermarket meal & for the price charged was disappointing. I was the only one in the restaurant the whole time. I waited for someone to come to offer me a desert menu but the lady had gone again! so had to miss that. Went for breakfast but again absolutely deserted and no sign of any breakfast set up! Annoying as i had paid for a breakfast I decided to check out and leave. No one about again except a young man so i just gave key & left feeling hungry. Very disappointed.

I was a little nervous, I’ll admit, due to other more negative reviews, but there really was nothing to be worried about.

The room was great, it wasn’t noticeably unclean or anything like that. Bed was comfortable, area was quiet, and I have no complaints.

The staff were welcoming and polite, and the food was really good also. The surrounding village is beautiful, and the Rhydd Ddu path up Mount Snowdon is one bus stop away (or 8KM walk), which is a bonus.

The property is a Victorian building and is slowly being restored by the new owners. It is a work in progress and may not meet the full standards a modern traveller expects. However, the manager is brilliant, the rooms were clean, beds comfortable, shower hot and powerful and food (only curries sampled) was brilliant. Please go with an open mind and cut them a little slack if things aren't quite perfect, they're getting there.

The property needs updating, it was clean but interior looks tired.

We asked to be moved from our first room as we had a view of a dirty roof and a ventilation unit. Not what you want when visiting an area of outstanding beauty or the £200 we paid to stay for 2 night. We got upgrade to another room with a much better view of the mountains. There was an issue with rusty water leaking from the ceiling into the bath from the bathroom above, but informed manager and a handyman came to dress the issue.

There was an issue with the gutter outside, with rain dripping from it to the flat roof outside our room keeping us awake at night. The bed was comfy though.

Breakfast although nice, felt we were rushed to order our hot breakfast.

Staff were welcoming and happy to deal with our issues.

Royal Goat is a Royal Pain

This hotel looked OK in the pictures, but reality was something different. The hotel has 'history', but that's all. I don't think it's been updated since the 1950's. On top of that, we booked months in advance - but when we arrived they said we hadn't paid and had to pay again. We have since confirmed payment, but I have been trying (unsuccessfully) for months to get a refund of the duplicate payment. Beddgelert is a nice place and I would have recommended their sister property Saracens Head instead - except that they have also been stone-walling us on our attemp to get a refund. At this point, I would recommend avoiding both properties to be safe. A real low spot in an otherwise wonderful trip to Wales.

Not the best...

In need of some serious refurbishment! The hotel is clean enough, but needs some money spent on it.

Worn carpets, flaking paint, showers not working, windows that won't fully close. Not a great experience, especially for the prices charged.

I aways try to support independent hotels, but this one was an own-goal. Never again.

One positive - the poor guys running reception, the bar, acting as a waiter (on his own) was polite and welcoming.

Near Pen y Pass

Six mile drive from Pen y Pass car park and therefore convenient after a tiring day. Service was slow due to minimal staffing but staff were friendly and efficient once you had their attention. Sheets, bath, toilet and sink were clean but other areas of the hotel rather dusty and spiders settled in ceiling corners throughout. Very difficult to find a place to have an evening meal in the village, some places closed at 5.30 pm during the early part of the week and only a few were open for food for an hour only 6.30 to 7.30 and had “ sorry full” signs. Difficult to find a cleared table for Breakfast which was cooked to order and arrived quickly.

Room 40 awful, cold / warm shower, not enough space for what i have to say about that horrible room on here , ,smelly, very disappointed in the place and room, lovely staff, outdate, room, nice comfortable bed, the TV must of come from a car boot sale , it was so outdated, tea/coffee, in the room, small bathroom, the dam heating was on all night, it made me feel I'll, thank goodness we got a fan from the staff, NO way could we have slept in that room, Breakfast pre cooked, bacon was chewy and the tomatoes were cold, the black pudding was so hard and disgusting, the whole place needs to be updated,, the door into the bathroom kept banging on the sink when we had to use the bathroom, if i saw that room on the site NO way would I have booked it, i saw a lovely room on the website, i was very disappointed what we got , i felt like we were just put in that ROOM, we couldn't have a shower because we had NO HOT WATER, we left early, i had to get home to get a shower, i was very disappointed in the place, it could be a lovely place, it needed updating , i would go back But not into that horrible smelly room, and i wouldn't pay b4 i saw the room ,
Staff were lovely and helpful but apart from that i give it 20 out of 100 ,

This hotel has unfortunately so neglected over the years it is now completely need of an entire refit.
Great location and potentially a lovely building but it is dirty, the communal areas especially, including the bar and breakfast area where the lovely windows are covered in cobwebs. Rotten window frames and dirty windows.
Really short staffed but I guess a lot of places are which would explain the lack of cleaning that is evident.
Had breakfast both mornings which was ok but the cooked breakfast was cold on both mornings despite coming out quickly.
Our bathroom had no towels and the shower was diabolical. There are instructions to turn on the cold and gently add hot water which was impossible because the taps were so jerky. In the end you could have a freezing shower or scolding one, not great with kids and as they have identified an issue not acceptable to have not sorted it as it's a basic feature.
The village is lovely and I think this place has the potential to be a great hotel but needs a big cuddle to bring it into this century. In its current form there's no way I would stay again and would definitely not recommend it which is a real shame.

The location is great with little other direct competition locally.
On arrival we were given keys to our allocated room, which had clearly not been cleaned since the last guest, bed unmade, rubbish and other items strew around. Then followed a debacle over our alternative choice of room, from which we chose the best of the remainder on offer.
The hotel is old and initially charming, but beneath this, the room was tired with poor finish to the decoration which is in need of refreshing by now anyway. In particular the windows require some attention as they don't open.
The staff were as helpful as they could be, but it is evident there was little formal training in catering and customer service.
On checking out, the earlier confusion over the room allocation meant we would not have been charged for the room, had we not asked the staff member to check again.
The accommodation is overpriced for the quality on offer.

The staff were brilliant, especially in these tough times and Max in particular made an impression in the restaurant. The food was of the highest standard and although the hotel itself is a bit dated, some of the doors a bit stiff and some TLC needed the overall atmosphere, experience and setting was first rate.

Clean and tidy with friendly staff

Stayed here Aug Bank Holiday 2021. First of all: the staff were great. Really friendly, helpful and just the right level of chatty. Couldn’t fault them. Breakfast were fantastic. The room was very clean and tidy - I think ours was newly refurbished. The public areas were a bit tired, but that can be forgiven considering how long they’ve had to be closed due to Covid. Evening meal was disappointing. If you rely on your phone and the internet then avoid! The hotel Wi-fi worked great downstairs but not on the top floor, but hey, we were a long way from the router and I’m not blaming the hotel for a lack of coverage by o2, I’m just warning you. Beddgelert is really pretty, a good base for walkers and cyclists or explorers. If we’re ever in the region again, we’d have no qualms about staying there again. Would recommend.

No management

Appears to be no management at this hotel. There is no receptionist to deal with any enquiries. I tried emailing for two weeks to clarify things prior to our arrival but no response atall. We requested a roll out bed for our daughter which wasn’t there on arrival and we had to chase. The bed itself was horrendous to sleep on, so we all had to cram in the king, which was a little tight. (Our daughter is 14). On the plus side, the staff, were helpful, always pleasant and rushing about. There’s just not enough of them… Hotel decor / state could do with a bit of modernising, but clearly the main beds, carpets, curtains were new which was nice. Overall not a bad place, just the small things I.e TV remote not working, one bedside lamp not working, but could be really nice with a little more investment.

Didnt like anything, ended up leaving after 1 night stay and only stayed for that one night due to being unable to drive.
We first arrived and the room that was suppose to be a superior double was more like a small double.
There was mould and damp on the ceilings and walls, wall paper peeling away, someones hair stuck to the wall and in the bed, carpets were stained, spider webs around the radiator and windows. Check in was 3pm and the room was not ready when we arrived just after 3pm. When we complained about the state of the room we had been put in a lady who worked there said she had told the manager not to use that room. When we were moved the other room was cleaner but the shower turned itself of and was not suitable for a 6ft male. We was told they could not accomodate us for food and when we complained about this, we was told we could eat but only a main. The manager stayed in the kitchen letting their staff deal with our xomplaint although we asked for the manager
This was apparently due to reduced staff... after 2 concerning complaints i would have hoped they would have made the effort. We was told our refund would take less than 12 hours but can take upto 48hrs to be in our bank account
.. 3 days later and multiple unanswered calls i am still nearly £400 out of pocket

Stayed as a party of 2 abd 3. No bed made up for child in room on arrival. Staff apologetic and would do so whilst out. On return folding bed and bedding and pack of biscuits outside door. Had to make bed, including putting sheets/ mattress and pillow covers on ourselves. Supplied extra pack of biscuits but no towelling or cup. No toilet tissue in room on arrival. Parents found left over clothing in one of the drawers in their room. Poor attention to detail, unopened boxes in lounge/ drink glasses remain in place. On the plus. Shower / bath warm and clean. Staff friendly. Good breakfast . Would be so bad if price was lower. Overcharging for what they delivet

The room was quiet, clean and comfortable. I could see the road and a part of the upper village from the window (3rd floor), also my car parked opposite. The room was in good condition generally, especially considering the building is 200 years old. The carpets in the corridors and on the stairs looked new. The lift was working. The staff were helpful and polite throughout my stay. You could sit outside and drink a beer in the afternoon which was pleasant. I ate in the restaurant on 2 nights and the food was good. There is the option to have a cooked breakfast or just cereals.

It is a lovely hotel with plenty of history inba wonderful locations. The staff were great, especially the barman and Max the waiter. Food was delicious. The problem I have was , yes the place is tired and dated and could do with a good make over( especially the ensuite) but the cleanliness was grim. Nit the bedrooms but the bar, tye ladies toilets, outside! Oh dear. Where is the management going round seeing black bin bags by tge door onto the bar. Overspilling ash trays. Tye tables in and out were very sticky and dirty. I was dying to get a cloth and some spray and clean windowsills etc. These are things that could be easily rectified. We stayed in The Brown's Hotel in Laugharne and The Hafod in Devil's Bridge to two previous nights. Both were tge same price as your room. Take a visit to those hotels please and see their definition of a £140 a night fir B&B. Lool at the standard of cleanliness!!!
We did like it at the hotel and would probably come back if you have a proper deep clean! Thanks anyway

DO NOT USE HOTELS.COM

My husband and I had booked The Royal Goat Hotel for 23rd April - 26th April 2021. On arrival, after travelling 6 hours, we found the hotel was closed, boarded up, and in the process of being refurbished (please see photos attached).

To say we were disappointed is a major understatement. We had travelled over 200 miles to a destination which is not available, so we need a comprehensive explanation from Hotels.com, a full refund for the £364.01 cost of booking with you, AND additional compensation for fuel, time wasted and a severe level of distress on what should have been an anniversary weekend break for us.

Please contact us as a matter of urgency to discuss and confirm how you intend to reimburse us for this appalling service. If we do not receive a satisfactory response by 30th April 2021 we will report this matter to Police, and begin legal action against you for obtaining money by false pretences.

We had a lovely few days at the Royal Goat, we have stayed there previously as frequent visitors to Wales.
The hotel seems to be going through regeneration , our room was dated and in need of updating, however it was evident that is in progress and it certainly wouldn’t deter us from returning, Staff are all very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was superb,
The area is amazingly spectacular with so much for visitors to see and do,
