We chose this hotel because of the proximity of the main rail station and the centre.
We arrived early, hoping to leave our bags and return later but the reception said the room was available now, so we unpacked and started our adventure.
The centre of Palermo is on the door step with all the sites and markets nearby.

from Palermo Airport to this hotel the best way is to take shared taxi cost 8 euros per person and arrive at the door of the hotel, this hotel is located central part of the most sightseeing locations, walking 10 mins to everywhere and there is a super market Lidl across the street, 3 blocks to train station and bus terminals to any places across Sicily, also the front desk person is very professional and friendly. It is a HOTEL! not AirBnB that has no front desk. Love to stay at this place, we arrived about 3 PM, and then out to look around, within walking distance of 10 minutes, we have seen all the places we planned to visit as a sightseeing spots, so next day we done the most of the planned sightseeing.

The AC kept going off the first night at 5 am woke up sweating mid Sep.
The next day same thing.
The employees were very nice, coming to our room to fix it, but 3rd morning the owner was there and was rude, and said temperature is set at 24 degrees and said people turn it off usong the phone.
I explained that as soon we arrived the AC was turned on, but every couple of hours went off, leaving us sweating in the middle of the night.
At one point the owner walked away, mid way during our conversation.

Air conditioning was beyond terrible, I’ve been to 42 countries so I’ve stayed at lots of hotels, never a hotel that would shut down its air conditioning while outside the temperature is above 90°, the first room they gave me the ac worked half the night, the second night didn’t work at all, then they changed the room, that room the ac barely kept the room cool! Also, the door to the bathroom when you open it would squeak so loud that it would wake up my family! Easy fix just oil the door hinges! Maybe owner is too cheap to buy oil! In addition, people at 1am talking loud in the hallway till about 3am, staff said they asked them to lower their voice, apparently they wasn’t stern enough because they kept taking and making noise! Would never stay at this hotel!

This property seems quite old and badly in need of an upgrade. Wifi was constantly dropping. Bathroom cramped and outdated. Room was clean and desk staff was helpful. The only property of the nine at which we stayed on this trip to Sicily, all in a similar price range, where breakfast wasn't included, and it didn't appear worth the modest additional charge. We tried several options for parking, and ended up in a municipal lot; the property had no options to offer. Not a terrible experience but there must be better places in Palermo.

Hotel del Centro was our first stop in Italy after a very long flight from Australia. Checkin was somewhat confusing as the apartments are situated within a building with other businesses / occupancies. Once located (level 4 from memory), the reception staff were very friendly and accommodating. Although you could get a lift to the reception, you then had to walk 2 flights of steep stairs to your room. The room was fairly spacious for 3 adults but not very modern. Bathroom was presentable and beds were reasonably comfortable. The hotel was within walking distance of the old town near the port where there were many options available for dining. Parking was an issue as there is very limited and unsecured on street parking, but we eventually found a secured parking area within walking distance for $25EUR for the night. Yes expensive! Paid breakfast was available but we had to leave early next morning so we didn't opt for that. For an overnight stay, our overall experience was good. With more research, we may have found something more convenient an inexpensive.

After reading reviews I guess I expected more from this hotel. The rooms were ok. The rooms were very warm as they turn the air off when you leave every time because you have to give them your room key. Being it was July we would look fwd to going back to a cool room and it was hot. I know Italy isn’t big on Ac but all our other hotels had great AC

There are some things you should know that are uncommon with this hotel:

1) There is air conditioning, but you have no control. The front desk turns it on and off at your request. It is cool, but not cold.

2) The front desk keeps your room key when you leave the room. I never learned why.

3) The elevator is very European (very very small)

4) Parking is at the central train station. You will want to park here. It is safe but expensive. Street parking technically exists, but very erratic and chaotic. No car? No problems.

This hotel is tired but functional.

Pro -
Well located close to the station and in walking distance of lots of handy places. Room was large and airy. Reception staff 24/7 and all I encountered were pleasant.

Cons
Very basic. The bed was an old, soft mattress and rickety frame. Air con had to be requested on/off via reception and could not be controlled from the room. The noise was significant - I was woken more than once, including in the morning by staff. My room was next to the cleaning facilities room/cupboard; the team start early and noisily. Hot water was inconsistent.

Room keys had to be left with reception whenever you left the hotel - didn’t necessarily bother me but I have never encountered this before.

Fine for a short stay but I would be disappointed if I was spending more than 2 nights here, likely wouldn’t return for longer.

This hotel is in an excellent location if you like to walk to the historical sites. And there are many. But for the hop/on:hop/off buses and trolley trains it’s a hike. I really wanted to go to the catacombs but it was a 38 minute walk.
This is an older building so furniture and bedding are old and uncomfortable. You have to ask for air conditioning or they keep it off. 5euro breakfast was nice but since it was all pastry, cereal, ham & cheese it should have been included in price.
My room was very dark so I had to keep overhead lights on. Be sure to ask for a large window if you decide to stay there

Friendly and super clean. 8-10 min to train and bus station. Across the street from market. The rooms are older and there are a few steps as older blogs but there is an elevator to second floor after nice lobby with 5 steps. Staff 24 hr. Marco and Salvatore front desk welcoming and helpful. They opened microwave for us to warm snack. There is bkfst 7:40-20:40a that looks good but our schedule didn't match. Easy walk to the Mercado foods and to Quattro canti and Massimo opera. Went to every place trapani and Cefalù and Montreale and museums as so close to station. They held bag while we went to Taormina and returned to stay more night. The only misfit is that bus Roma has a homeless lady but maybe that will change. It is safe and parallel to marqueda so one can walk around

At the outset, yes, I would stay here again. On the plus side, it’s conveniently located close to the station and a short walk from much else. The staff was very nice and someone is at the desk 24x7. One the downside, the hotel’s one-time grandure is history and there’s nothing “nice” about it. If you’re OK with that, then you’ll enjoy a nice, functional stay.

Great location and loved the classic rooms with high ceilings. Could walk almost everywhere and convenient to train station when we needed public transportation and airport access. Staff was very attentive and helpful. The low rating was due to minimal connectivity via WI-FI, extremely small shower with mold, and air conditioner that worked but had to call front desk to turn it on/off. They did not leave the control in the room. Happily it was not extremely hot when we were there.

Positives: friendly receptionists, good location
Negatives: honestly the hotel is quite antiquated. The rooms look like they have not been refurbished in a few centuries and the hotel corridor smelled quite strongly of cigarettes. There is a charge if you would like your room cleaned every day... Air conditioning is all centrally controlled by the reception staff. TV did not work and in all honestly the bathroom was pretty poorly cleaned. Very strong odour of sewage coming from the drains in the sink and shower.

Can't say that we would recommend this hotel to others.

The hotel is a charming Old World hotel with a very friendly, helpful staff (especially Salvo, who gave us great advice not only about Palermo but our later destinations). Breakfast was good, with a very nice hostess.

The rooms are well appointed, with plenty of storage. Location is good, near the Centrale station, the Four Corners area, the old city, and the Mercato di Ballarò. Everything you’ll likely want to see is within a mile walk.

The bathroom could have a better shower closure so as to not leak water on the floor, plus a second towel hook. The heating system is old, and they have trouble maintaining even temperatures from room to room, but all you have to do is call the front desk and they’ll adjust your room. Those are minor nits.

I happily recommend the Hotel del Centro.

The hotel requires you to leave the keys at the reception every time you leave the room, but sometimes there is nobody at the reception. In that situation I took the keys with me and when I came back the receptionist was angry at me because of that. We had an argument during which he started to raise his voice, then shouted at me. When I told him to lower his voice as I don’t appreciate being screamed at, he called me aggressive and became even more rude. Horrible experience.

My friend came to my room one day in the morning to leave her luggage and then in the evening to pick it up - overall each time she stayed in my room about 2 minutes - the rude receptionist asked for her ID and threatened me with the police when I tried to explain she’s here only to leave and pick her luggage from my room and she was just leaving. I know people are not allowed to have guests overnight but I didn’t realised it’s not okey to have somebody over for a few minutes! I had absolutely no problem with giving my friends ID, but the receptionist talking about the police and screaming was just a bizzarre experience.

The aircone in 2 rooms didn’t work - at check in I had to change the room twice! There was no desk in the room although in a description it’s clearly stated there is a desk. I needed it for work, so the receptionist brought me a coffee table to the room - I appreciated the gesture, but the coffee table was very unstable and not fit for purpose.

Despite it is said that free parking is available at the time of booking; in reality there is almost no parking except the garage that the hotel has agreement which is to be paid by the guests and which is not very near by. If you dont have a car, the hotel is a good choise.

The hotel is located in a very old building on the 2nd floor. You need to take an old style elevator to get there. The rooms are clean and the staff is very helpful, especially desk clerk Giovanni. The breakfast is yogurt, cereal, pastries and very good coffee.

Actual room very comfortable and good size but bathroom a bit small with bidet right in front of the door of the shower cubicle making it difficult to get in and out of the shower. Toiletries provided not good and no beakers or glasses provided either in the room or bathroom. Breakfast choice quite limited, a few little additions would take this hotel from good to excellent. We enjoyed our stay but a few improvements would make all the difference.

In fairness the hotel was okay....decent for the price. Breakfast was better than most places of a simple sweet and coffee. However the location was awful! Scuzzy neighborhood and I was actually assulted by a man who sprang out of a narrow alley and ripped off my gold necklace chain. Ripped my dress too. I decided to leave a day early and NO refund was possible. Poor customer satisfaction under the circumstances.

Excellent location for visiting all the sites. Sadly the walls were very thin and you could hear everything in the next room. Bed was flimsy iron frame and was higher at the foot of the bed than the top do with thin pillows it felt very uncomfortable. Breakfast had cereal, cold meat, cheese and croissants but no fruit except for prunes. The waitress who served the coffee was very pleasant as were all the staff. Would stay again if the room had a better bed

The good: location, location, location. This hotel could not have been more perfect for that. Extremely walkable to everything. The not so good: the room itself was extremely underwhelming, everything seemed to be in various stages of disrepair. It wouldn’t have been so bad, but the bed was sloped and the bed frame was a weird fake frame that was not attached to the bed, it surrounded it. For two people sleeping the same bed—it was extremely uncomfortable because the entire bed shook anytime anyone moved. The bathroom: was clean, but the shower stall was so tiny it was hard to move around in the shower.

Our week in Palmero didn't go as planned with both of us ill and pretty much confined to the room/hotel after the first two days. The hotel is well positioned, literally five minutes from the station and, if you catch the shuttle bus from the airport, it is easier to get off there and walk back than along Via Roma. It's a good central location - the botanical gardens, cathedral and seafront all within a 15 minute walk.
The buffet style breakfast was very good including a changing choice of croissants and other pastries even in low season.
Our hostess for breakfast made beautiful lattes with great care to the presentation and could not have been more helpful. It's always a pleasure when staff remember what you like and how you like it made. Thank you.
Special thanks to G on Reception and G our cleaner. Both were really so kind and so helpful. It was also lovely that ALL the staff joined the guests at breakfast. It all added to the welcome.
The nearby facilities are also very good. Lidl across the road from the Hotel meant we didn't have to go far for bottled water and there were plenty of small cafes and restaurants to suit all budgets despite the location.
We were on a modest budget and booked a room on that basis. It was, nonetheless very comfortable, clean and recently redecorated. The bed was extremely comfortable too which was very welcome given events. There's also great Wi-Fi and a book borrow / swap.

Central location

The staff were very nice and the room clean and bed comfortable. Central location close to the train station. Reasonably good budget hotel. We were careful after dark.

Nice hotel in good location

Staff was veery helpful. My room was very comfortable (single room with a double bed plus AC and private bath). Breakfast was included and was very nice. The location is close to everything in Palermo (the train station, the markets, the waterfront, the architectural attractions). The hotel is old but they do a nice job keeping it clean and safe. I enjoyed calling it home for 4 days.

Good hotel and central to everything. If you go by car it is difficult to park. There is parking not too far away, that is secure. You can ask for valet service. Will come back.

Good location.

Old world charm. Nicely preserved with good breakfast. The hotel staff is very patient and helpful with directions, scheduling and reservations. Some rooms are up one flight, but concierge carried baggage. Bath a little small. Balcony with table and chairs. Noisy when door opened. Supermarket across street. Wonderful restaurant recommendation, Il Proverbio, was reasonable and delicious.
