A most amazing stay very last minute! I booked on the evening of my stay short notice, upon arrival I checked in & was shown to my room … a gracious little room aptly named ‘ The shoe box’ so cute everything I needed as a solo traveler. Perfectly snug. Wonderful staff & w location. Would definitely recommend this hotel!

Great Location, 1 night stay caught it on a Tuesday which was Xmas market. Friendly staff, breakfast included which looked amazing but unfortunately had to leave early morning for a meeting.
Lovely local pub up the road, the Lord Nelson for sport and friendly people.
Will definitely stay again here.
Only downside, very small car park so had to park 10 minute walk away but the town is very scenic so was happy for the walk.

Carpark is small but we got there early and parked. I checked if it was ok as we could t book in until 3 but were told yes, 1st come 1st served. Receptionist friendly and helpful.
Room seemed ok on first looks but when we returned that evening it was so hot that we had to sleep with the window wide open and then it was really noisy due to a coach/ bus stop right opposite our room. Also the water pipes made a lot of noise during the night, the beds were far too soft and we barely slept.
In the morning the shower was a lovely temperature but the ratchet on the head was broken and it wouldn’t stay up properly, just washing the back half of the shower and the toilet seat moved every time it was used - was nearly off at one point.

Three night stay away without the car for a change. Train station just 10 minutes away and taxi rank outside the hotel, well located. Staff all friendly and food is good. A little tatty in places and missed no plugs beside the bed, no hairdryer but not a massive thing. Totnes is definitely the place to go if you have a dog as everywhere caters for them.

Stayed many times,this time was no exception, excellent stay overall with good room, staff were very good, food good. The building is showing its age and hopefully an overall is not far off. Barny who runs it is a very good manager who made our stay all the better.

Food options very limited and given the poor choice of evening dining places, I would have thought the Hotel would make more effort to attract diners from outside, as well as Residents. Despite a \"New Menu\" board displayed outside, we went in at just before 9 and was told the kitchen was now closed !!!

The property is an historic building and reflects that. The room was clean, the bed super comfy and a well fitted bathroom.
The staff were all exceptionally friendly and helpful.
The full english breakfast was exceptional using great quality produce and very good coffee. Great location for a short stay.

Lovely hotel in an excellent spot. The historic background is evident, yet at the same time there is a lot going on so it is vibrant and busy and the rooms are to a very good standard. Very comfortable night’s sleep, with no disturbance from patrons at the bar (and the quiz night, which happened during my stay).
I was unable to connect to internet (despite help from staff). This was not important for me, but may be a consideration for others.
Staff were friendly and helpful; evening meal was pleasant but not brilliant. Breakfast was lovely.

A really nice hotel with lovely staff.
Lovely rooms.
Little bit of damage in my room but this was explained with a lovely note.
Rooms are very well decorated and the bathroom was very clean.
My only negative is the breakfast start time at 8am.
With being at work I could have done with it being a little earlier.
However it’s much more suited to holidaymakers.
I will for sure return.

Excellent location both for the many transport links and the stroll into town. The room was on the second floor so not convenient if mobility issues. .It was compact with low ceilings but comfortable, especially the bed.
Poor plumbing.
Unusual housekeeping for me as the bed was never made up nor the bath cleaned during my stay.
Dinner in the restaurant was disappointing.
Chicken supreme dish, the potatoes were nice, the meat was well cooked unfortunately the roasted carrots tasted rancid so was unable to eat them.

A lovely wee stay

The rooms were beautifully clean, comfortable and cosy. The staff were so so friendly, it was my first solo trip and they made me feel so comfortable and safe. From the welcome team, the cleaning staff and the restaurant staff I only ever felt looked after and cared for. I will definitely be staying again in the future.

Loved the food especially the moules mariniere, french fries and sauce,but had a nasty virus and cough so not much appetite, friendly guests, staff, and atmosphere on the ground floor in the bar and restaurant. What makes the 7 stars hotel unique is the architecture of the building adding to its character and history, and would be a great setting for an offbeat film. I disliked the Agatha Christie room immediately, found it creepy iand am still freaked out by the experience, I could not sleep there, as I suffer from adhd , emotional dysregulation and am recovering from a covid like virus. Also, my smart phone was lost there and still has not been recovered and the fraud team are investigating a scam on my smart phone. Later, throughout the evening, while I was on my laptop I felt I was in danger, and being clairvoyant, I sensed that the room was haunted but was helped by chatting to friend and family on my laptop. When the door opened on its own after I locked it, I was terrified, felt very vulnerable and in danger of my life and am still having panic attacks at a time when I was just starting a new chapter in my life. I am fascinated by ghosts, but was relieved when a friend of mine confirmed that the Agatha Christie room was actually haunted and that I wasn't imagining items of mine moving in the night and turning up at home. He did however tell me that the ghost wasn't malevolent which was a relief I would never have booked the room if I'd known it was haunted

The Royal Seven Stars just oozes history and character. It is just delightful and located right in the middle of the glorious town of Totnes. The staff are all warm, friendly and helpful. We had a lovely dinner with the extra treat of excellent live music. Great atmosphere in the bar, obviously popular with visitors and locals alike. Our room was really comfortable. We had searched for somewhere doggy friendly, but did expect so many facilities in the room just for our little dog. She was really spoilt, thank you.

gorgeous town, fantastic truly lovely staff, amazing breakfast, all in a rather tired old hotel at a perfectly fair price. Parking lot was full when we arrived so had to juggle our car round public/paid car parks. Charming wonky stairs lead to acceptable / somewhat tired bedrooms, biggest failings were 18th century soundproofing (ie none); c 1990s shower and loo; and c 1990s “double glazing” distancing us from the olde worlde potential. The wonderful concierge told us they are excited about a refurb planned for 2026 - if they upgrade the rooms as they could, they could surely upgrade the prices too. As it was we were happy to stay, the main reason to go back before the 2026 refurb would be the very sweet town (fab independent high street and some cute restaurants with very fair pricing / good menus)… and not many other hotel options in town. The super friendly staff, fab breakfast and fair pricing were much appreciated!

Terrific central location, nice bar and restaurant. An old building so floorboards a bit creaky but rooms refurbished to a very high standard. Car park is tiny and usually full but there is a reasonable public car park just across the road, attached to a Morrisons supermarket, and we had no problems parking there.

Having spent a reasonable amount on our room, we were rather disappointed by the lack of space and how outdated it was (nothing like the photos advertising that type of room so presumably it's pot luck with what quality room you get).

The mattress seemed not quite right on one side of the bed (feeling like it almost entirely disappeared when laid on) leading to a fairly rubbish night of sleep, there was quite a lot of noise from the high street, and our bathroom was not only incredibly small but also looking rather worse for wear in places.

Having checked out at 10:30, we were told breakfast had finished at 10. My fault for not double checking the details in the room but the large sign advertising breakfast served until 11am meant I didn't feel the need to. Evidently breakfast stops at 10am for \"residents\" and 11am for \"walk ins\" or so I was told when I queried this. I was also informed they were 2 chefs down due to illness & when I said I was glad I hadn't pre-booked the breakfast as a result, I was told they would have honoured it had we done so. Seems very conflicting.

Parking is almost non existent, and trying to park in the nearby proved quite difficult due to how busy it was in the area when we arrived.

It was a shame as our time at an event in the ballroom the previous evening had been fabulous, with incredibly lovely bar staff and great service, as well as an array of delicious food served. We are not likely to return for another stay though.

Hmm, what to say about this place? It is a very old hotel (late 1600’s) with some named and kitschy rooms. Saying that, the majority of rooms are quite small, with a very small shower. I am talking about the kind of shower where raising your arms to wash your hair is a challenge. It is in the heart of Totnes and the area is walkable with many art studios, artisan shops and restaurants. We had an ok sleep-the hotel fronts on a fairly busy street-and the included breakfast was really delicious. It is worth staying here to explore the history of the place but understand that it is not a modern hotel nor does it pretend to be. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the pub had good service and a lively atmosphere.

An interesting hotel historic charming and old fashion decor but this made it homely and interesting for us. Room very clean and comfortable. We took our dog and had special rooms. A quiet nights sleep no sound of any other dogs. Kitchen looked very clean and staff very willing to help. Hotel in middle of town of Totness, but no undue noise.

Was alright for an overnight business stay I suppose but rooms are very dated apart from the bathroom. Bed was very uncomfortable and pillows were well past their best before date. Got there just after check in opens to find no parking spaces and very difficult to park on the busy high street to unload. Ended up parking in Morrisons car park and paying for what was advertised by the hotel they have free parking !

There are only a limited free parking spaces available at the hotel, but we were advised to park at Morrisons which was only a two minute walk away. Morrisons had loads of spaces and only charged £2.60 for 24 hours - so very reasonable and easy.
The hotel staff were very friendly and the food was good. The cooked breakfast was lovely.
The twin room we had was quite generic and the bathroom was small, but it was clean, well equipped and with Elemis products. The bed was rather too hard for me and the pillows were so so. We could hear the two people in the next room chatting until the early morning, but luckily this doesn’t really bother us and we still got a good night sleep. All in all I would definitely recommend this hotel as the location in Totnes is perfect. We will hopefully stay here again next time.

Pub-hotel on High street with difficult parking

The hotel is situated at the Southern end of the town on the High street. Parking is very difficut, we had to park on the High street at first and then move into the small rear yard later in the evening.
The room was large with a comfortable bed. Good shower and sitting room next door. Breakfast was excellent.

Refurbish the bedrooms

The hotel is fine in the public rooms, but the bedroom I stayed in is definitely overdue for refurbishment. I had points saved through stays elsewhere and so used these. Had I paid the asking price ( member £102) I would have felt very hard done by. It needs an interior designer's touch or at lease some colour and opulence in the bedrooms and some theming... an accent wall using the same wallpaper used on one wall in the dining area would make such a difference. It's a pity as it could be really lovely, but the bedroom I stayed it was a disappointment. At the very least a re-paint in required. Add some luxurious cushions and a throw and a very different vibe would be created at little cost.

Wonderful stay at the Royal Seven Stars Hotel.

We initially booked a 2 night stay at The Seven Stars, and found the hotel very comfortable, and well positioned in the centre of Totnes.
On the second night, taking into account the comfort of the hotel and the exceptional friendliness, and helpfulness of all the staff, we decided to book for another night, and as an additional bonus, benefited from a generous discount on the standard rate for the room.
I’m sure we will return to The Seven Stars later in the year.

what an absolute pleasure the staff for first class, then knowledge of the hotel the food they were serving and the surrounding areas were absolutely encyclopedic. Hotel gorgeous receptionist friendly and inviting room clean and just right for the cost. What let it down was the drunk member of staff whom made all guest feel uncomfortable and the fact the bar closed at 10pm as a result of this we believe.
Unkempt and unfriendly welcome for breakfast the next morning which made us decide not to book a extra night and go somewhere else instead

One night stay, although I have stayed many times before. I stay because the staff are really welcoming, helpful and friendly. I stay because the rooms are comfortable, Tea Pigs tea selection, bottle of water, lovely toiletries. The hotel is in the centre if town

Having grown up in Totnes, I've known the area for a long time, and the Seven Stars is perfectly central, easy 10 min walk from the train station now moved away, and a comfy bed, decent sized room with a fine powerful shower. The door to the bathroom might need some work but this is a very old building and no issues generally!

Christmas Market Stopover

The location is fantastic but the room we had was very tired and needed repairs. The bathroom handle came off whilst I was in the bathroom. Luckily, my relative was on the other side to help me out. The screws were loose, and it had obviously not been repaired before our stay. The shower was not as clean as it could have been, pink scum around the silicone and the screen needed a scrub.The bed was very comfortable and lovely, clean linen. Tea and coffee tray was well stocked.
We had to ask for toilet rolls as only half a roll was supplied.
The bar staff were not over welcoming and I felt like a number rather than a valued customer
A large wine was £9.50, slightly more than I expected. Bar food was ok, just average, but the chips were delicious.
It was Xmas market night and I appreciate that the staff were busy but customer service was lacking, no smiles, food pushed at us and no thank you, come again.
However the reception team were fab, carried up my mums suitcase, pleasant attitude and welcoming.
I would stay again for the location but I would eat and drink in another establishment for a better customer experience.
