We really enjoyed our stay. A lot of thought and care has gone into the decor and ambience and our room was really clean & comfortable as were the beds.

The staff were very helpful & attentive and dinner and breakfast were delicious with everything beautifully presented & freshly cooked.

I like the way they combine modern convenience with this very old building. I thought the decor in the rooms attempted to achieve this combination but it was a bit bland overall. Internet connection was great, and appreciated.
Some of my party wanted to stay up late….we were staying in preparation for a funeral the next day, which was taxing for all of us …staying up late was not welcomed by the staff on duty, and all the lights were turned off outside which made it a bit treacherous when returning to bedrooms.

Pleasant stay, lovely helpful staff and great food

Accommodation was clean and comfortable, staff were all lovely. Very helpful and friendly. The meal that we had was excellent. My only critism is the short time span for breakfast, 7.30 to 9am. Sometimes it is nice to have a leisurely start to the day with breakfast a bit later. Also the lack of a residents licence when you are enjoying a nice family evening and are told at 11pm that it is last orders at the bar.

Breakfast was good but choices somewhat limited.

You'll be unlikely to get phone signal at the premises at all (three network), which was made worse by the fact that there was no WiFi available for the duration of my stay (afternoon - morning).

The room has a traditional style which ties in well with the building. Unfortunately there is no air conditioning which meant the room got very hot during our August stay. The bed was very comfortable, but a lighter duvet could have been a good option as we were experiencing a heatwave! The bathroom only had a bath with a showerhead attached for bathing, no barrier or curtain to stand up in unfortunately.

The location is quiet and isolated and the staff are friendly and approachable.

The stay was reasonable with a good quality cooked to order breakfast and very conformable bed in a quiet room. I feel at the cost of £140 (double) on a Sunday night stay it is a little over priced for what it is however.

Just great.

The hotel is beautiful inside and out. The staff are helpful but not intrusive, the food is fabulous and the wine choice is pretty good. The wet room in our room was great and everywhere is clean. Free parking and beautiful countryside. A little cut off but just the way we love it. We will be back. Thanks.

Sadly had to leave early.

Unfortunately our stay was cut short by the couple above flooding the bathroom and water pouring through the lights into our room. There was only a twin room available with a mattress topper, so we declined this and came home early. The Bickley Mill offered a £25 gift voucher, which we declined.
This is a lovely place to stay and staff are attentive and helpful. Food is lovely.
Just a shame we had to leave because of another couple flooded their room & ours!

Mixed feelings ...

Really lovely sweet building with a rural oldie world feeling inside. Great shower room. Great supply of drinks (tea n coffee etc). Nice bed linen. Good service from the very polite staff. However, the doors to the rooms had heavy deadbolt locks on them ,no matter how quiet you tried to close your door they slammed shut . The walls were paper thin ; I think I had the newly weds next door to me!!!! 4am in the morning I managed to get to sleep ...not good. Breakfast on the first morning was lovely but the second morning I ordered the same it was overcooked and had egg shell in it; I left it uneaten .The window had been open on my arrival and the gnats had got in I had to go around swatting them before bedtime I counted at least 7.

Overnight stay on our way down to Cornwall. Perfect for what we needed. Outside gardens covered and open areas. Food was excellent breakfast the same. Room was fine with tea and coffee facilities. Would stay as a over nighter as nothing much around it.

A good stay

Staff were friendly, cheerful and helpful.
Breakfast was good with fresh ingredients.
Food in the restaurant was good.
Room was clean.
We were plagued with midges in our room at the time that we stayed (not the hotel's fault - apparently this happens for a couple of weeks each year because of the close proximity of the Mill stream) so had to keep our windows closed and when we mentioned this to a member of staff, they gave us a can of fly spray to use in the room, which helped. They also loaned us a fan as we couldn't have the windows open.
The patio was a lovely place to sit with a drink from the bar and benefitted from the evening sunlight.
We arrived in the afternoon and would have liked to have had a pot of tea and slice of cake in the garden, or maybe a Devon cream tea, but unfortunately neither were available, only a drink from the bar. So we would recommend that the hotel offer this as we're sure that other guests would like that option too as it was a bit early to be drinking alcohol from the bar.
All in all, we had a lovely stay and would recommend the hotel.

Ok stay, some finishing touches required.

On arrival, very efficient and polite, I needed a dvd Player for my child to use during part of the stay, clearly advertised in the room I booked. This was not the case, and on querying this was met by a dismissive response. The hotel was full, so understood changing was not an option and suggested that the room list should be updated for future reference, this was not accepted by the staff member. The shower pole was loose, the curtain was disengaged. After my first query regarding the dvd issue I thought it pointless telling them. Breakfast was great!

Lovely, quiet setting. Very nicely presented, reasonable size room and very clean. Had Salcombe room, very quiet with views across gardens. Very good breakfast, cooked to order - and excellent croissants - also fresh cooked to order. Staff were excellent; happy to vary menu and very pleasant and helpful. All round a great stay. Only slight criticism was the orange juice at breakfast - not the best - and the curtains were very thin; could do with blackout linings. Dinner was of a high standard; well cooked and presented with good choices and great sweets - and not having to drive was a real bonus.

Lovely stay.

The Bickley Mill hosted a family member’s wedding and it was wonderful. Food great, room really lovely and a cosy ambience with great service. The only slight down side was the price of drinks, but we all agreed that this is expected at this kind of event.

A pure Gem- Highly Recommended

I travel a lot in the South West Region.
I Like staying in Inn's far from the madding crowd.
This has to be one of the best hotels I had stayed in. The food was nothing short of Excellent and the room was clean and had that brand new feel about it.

Attractive hotel close to family living nearby .

I specifically chose this hotel for an overnight stay as my husband and I were visiting family locally. It is the first time we stayed here and overall our impressions were good despite our brief visit. For us it was a good location. Staff very friendly and helpful. As a last minute booking I was only able to book twin bedded room but beds were very comfortable and clean as was entire room and en- suite bathroom. All tastefully decorated and furnished. Only negative was that in our room named Kingsbridge, we were able to clearly hear conversations, ablutions etc through the wall of adjoining rooms even though the guests were not speaking particularly loudly.
Breakfast next morning was good and well cooked if choosing from the menu which was provided to order, although the breakfast buffet bar was limited and fruit offered of poor quality and choice.
Overall though we would choose to return as the staff, service and room cleanliness were good.

Remote but well worth it.

Whilst the location is a little remote this Hotel / Inn is well.worth the drive down the country lanes to get to it. Rooms are a reasonable.size, clean and very comfortable. Bar area as you would expect from a \"country Inn\" and the food is of a high standard. The outside areas are well presented too with a terraced beer garden. Stayed just one night on business trip and will without question return.
