Located in Bloomsbury, next door to the British museum, it is a quieter area but you do need to walk ten plus minutes to get to the primary tube station to take you to downtown. It is an older historic building that has been well maintained. The bed was quite comfortable and we had a lovely view of the garden. My one big recommendation would be to avoid breakfast there. It is very overpriced for the quality of the food and there are many great bakeries and cafes around. The breakfast room also is very tight and it gets overcrowded and uncomfortable. Staff were helpful, even offering us umbrellas to us as we headed out.

Our room was spacious (for London) and very well appointed- particularly liked the Floris toiletries. It was spotlessly clean and very quiet facing the gardens. I haven’t had such a positive hotel experience in the longest time. The staff were the kindest, most helpful, and genuine I probably have ever experienced. Coming to the UK for the first time from the US, the hotel was brimming with British hospitality and charm. The rooms were excellent, air conditioning worked fabulously during the heatwave, and it was the most seamless experience I’ve had at a hotel. Hopefully I can come back to London and stay here again!

A nice boutique style hotel in a good and quiet location. It is located conveniently next to the British museum. It also within walking distance of several areas of interest such as Covent Garden and the west end theatre. The underground tube is also nearby using the Russell Square station. The internet was not super fast, but I was able to work and stream video without any issues. And the gym is just a small room with a treadmill and two bikes. Still, I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone in London for business or pleasure.

We spent three nights at this hotel. The location is excellent and the employees were warm and welcoming. Unfortunately, our room did not meet our expectations. It was very small (not unusual in London), but we had to take turns walking through the room as the space was so narrow. The bathroom was terrible: cramped and outdated with rust stained grout on the floor which made it look dirty. The bathtub was in need of re-glazing and there was absolutely no ventilation. Everything in the bathroom, including toilet paper and tissues, was always damp. For the price point, we were very disappointed. There was also an optional service fee of £15 per day which was not disclosed until we checked out. We already tipped housekeeping and the bellman in cash so we had the service fee removed. We didn’t use the restaurant so I cannot comment on that.

The hotel is convenient for visiting the British Museum. We enjoyed our stay, staff are friendly, our room was very quiet and clean. We did book the upgraded room size. Breakfast in the morning was very nice, but could have longer hours. We had one early start day so had to miss breakfast. Things that could be improved; the Gym, or rather, a closet with 2 stationary bikes jammed inside. Our only real criticism was the outrageous cost for drinks at the hotel bar. The hotel is centralish to a number of Underground Stations and we just rode it to and from Heathrow. Don't get the Oyster card just tap a credit card.

The Montague on the Gardens is a charmingly historic hotel. It’s decor is quintessentially British without being too fussy. We were given a first story room initially, but it was way too small. We were unable to maneuver around our luggage. They graciously found us another room on the ground floor that was more spacious and had more closet space, but was the same price. We took advantage of their discounted breakfast plan during our three nights stay. The breakfast was bountiful and freshly prepared. The staff was extremely accommodating. The leopard room bar was a favorite spot to unwind after a day of sightseeing. The cocktails were well-made and generous. Overall, we would highly recommend this hotel and plan to stay there on our next visit to London.

Albi at the front door helping with my bag and making sure I had still water every day, India at the front desk who was so kind and checked me in and luckily was there when I checked out, Emily working in the restaurant who was so kind and sweet- these people make this hotel. Of course the fabulous comfortable bed and turn down service and cosy, well-appointed room don't hurt either. Loved the short bread and cookie upon arrival and the breakfast choices were yummy. I absolutely would recommend this hotel to anyone, anytime. You will not be disappointed!

I would have given this hotel five stars except I found the additional £15 service charge for housekeeping (optional) and the calls to the room to check everything was ok and the turndown service slightly intrusive. I didn’t have breakfast. I was in the bar once and we were ignored. Had to go to the bar to order. It was so slow they offered a discount, on the food only I presume. I didn’t pay the bill to verify. My room was clean. The turndown service put out both pairs of slippers even though I didn’t take them out of the package or use them and I was the only person in the room.
