I have stayed at the resort numerous times and have always enjoyed my stay. Unfortunately this last time was not so good. The evening entertainment in the Derwent is always great but it was closed due to a private function. Giving an alternative in the Carlton which does not have the same ambience therefore not many people attended. This has put me off returning to the resort I’m afraid

The 165 years old Victoria Hotel is so beautiful, so big and still so functional premise that we were really impressed. It is true that need flooring and little room renovation but I can only congratulate with the owner and management how good is maintained.
The ladies at the reception are fantastic, so patient and helpful.
The swimming pools are fantastic and big sizes, good for long swimming and the other for families with kids with a separate little corner for babies. The jacuzzi is a good size, good bubbles (I like a stronger water jet but was ok). Steaming really good and hot sauna lovely.
The breakfast was very good and simple, basic very well cooked fried eggs, beans, plum tomatoes sauce, hash brown potatoes a little dry, scrambled eggs and sausages to improve. But the waiters were offering fresh made poached, boiled or scrambled eggs to be served at your table and fresh croissants too.
We loved the other station with a very good yogurt, prunes on syrup, fantastic fresh fruit salad, cerries on syrup, sliced almonds, apple or grapes juices. There are 2 hot drinks machines quite good, but for my italian taste the coffee was a little weak.
We found the service around the restaurant breakfast spotless, especially the lovely Ukrainian Pavel (not sure about the spelling) was making every single one so welcome and attentive to anyone needs, also the sweet Sara was very caring.
There are so many activities going on especially for senior that really enjoy the hotel a lot.

AVOID!! We checked in, then left and came home after a couple of hours!! It’s dirty, old, damp riddled and is completely inaccessible for prams. It’s a maze of dark corridors with filthy carpets that would have been old in the 80s. The air in our apartment was thick with damp. Swimming pools are cloudy with chlorine.

We enjoyed our stay at TLH Victoria. The only thing I would ask for is a mini fridge in the rooms. We were in a room for 4 but a mini fridge would have been really handy to put our bottles of water in and kids snacks.
There also wasn't much entertainment for the children over the weekend. There was a disco on Tuesday and Thursday but we were staying Friday-Sunday. It would be good to have a kids disco on a Friday and Saturday and have the bingo start just a little later so the little ones can have their fun

I injured my foot during my stay in a metal bed prong that’s used to clip beds together that was left undone . I immediately informed the receptionist that wasn’t interested at all and gave me a small blue plaster to put over it it took me to complain to managers for anything to be done . It ruined what was meant to he a relaxing trip. I never complain but feel this was totally wrong and human error . The mangers did offer me a free evening meal and breakfast at no cost but since coming home the had to seek medical attention for the injury I sustained and now that I’ve left they don’t seem interested that I’m still suffering with the injury overall really disappointed . The pool facilities of this hotel are nice but the rooms have no air conditioning and can get quite stuffy they do provide a small fan but you won’t get a full night sleep when it’s hot here which is a shame . Absolutely gutted that a nice weekend away turned into a stressful one !

Didnt really need to leave the hotel grounds. Everything you need!
Spa, pool, games room and plenty of bars and restaurants.
Humble entertainment in the evenings.
Lovely relaxing spa and we had an apartment which had also had a small kitchen if you wanted to cook yourself.

Great place to stay for a family - the facilities in the apartment and activities in the hotel are great and it’s close to the beach, Marina and Town Centre. It’s also not too far from the rest of the Riviera. We’ve lived at other good places in Torquay in the past, but this was by far the most practical and functional place for us as a family.

while it may be an older property, it exceeded my expectations in many ways. The rooms do show their age, but the exceptional staff more than make up for it with their friendliness and attention to detail. The hotel offers a wide range of facilities that are perfect for families, including a massive games room that kept the kids entertained for hours. Both the indoor and outdoor pools are well-maintained and a fantastic place to relax. The evening entertainment was awesome. Additionally, the hotel's location is ideal, making it easy to explore the surrounding area. Overall, it’s a wonderful place for a family getaway!

The hotel was clean but very dated. We stayed on the 3rd floor which was very hot. The bed was very uncomfortable, but the room was clean. We stayed for breakfast which was average, but did feel uncomfortable whilst eating our breakfast as the young man (waiter) was stood near our table waiting for us to finish our breakfast so that he could remove our plates as soon as we had eaten. We felt that we were being watched.

Total Scam and poor service

It was a very bad experiance from both hotel and hotels.com. I feel scammed.
Scam 1: The hotels.com site says free parking. And hotel reception said no free parking available for bookings through hotels.com. Asked me to pay £10 for parking. When contacted hotels.com customer service they said the free parking is on first come basis. Which was another lie confirmed by the hotel reception.

Scam 2: hotels.com itennary said 1 douple bed, one double sodlfa bed and a single bed. But the room had only 1 douple bed and a sofa bed. No help or answer given by hotels.com customer service.

It is nothing like it shows in pictures . Entrance to the room looked very out dated . The curtains and windows looked like it has not been cleaned .
The sofa bed was very uncomfortable could feel the springs and the mattress was deep in the middle . I could not sleep and relax at all . Duvet cover felt as if the cotton wool inside was mushy and for sure that means it has probably not been changed for years .
Very disappointing. I will unfortunately not go again .

lots of steps and ramps so you need to be pretty fit , i can only imagine it to be a nightmare if your disabled. Not sure how you would get to the swimming pools if disabled lot of steps down. £10 a day to park is a bit steep too.

The property is very central to the seafront and restaurants.
Parking was a complete nightmare with cars left abandoned everywhere so chose to park offsite a couple of minutes away. Over half the price to park on site and easier as well.
The facilities were clean and tidy (a little worn/dated) and the room was well presented. The issue we had was how hot the place was. We had the window fully open (January) and we still never used the covers. We had a particularly uncomfortable night due to the heat in the room (and we switched the radiator off). The general Spa facility was ok if you wanted a swim and sauna as well. Overall not bad value for money

The room was dated and the fan we were provided for some form of circulation for our room was unsafe - the cover was held together with an elastic band.

On two occasions when being provided with fire safety procedures the group were informed in case of emergency we should run out via the nearest exit.

On one occasion no wet floor sign was provided for a recently mopped floor in a communal toilet area.

We were always two of the first people to breakfast and on two occasions informed there were no croissants available as the delivery had not come yet.

Pleasant hotel. Hotel very dated and the rooms could do with a refurb. However, tidy and bedding was clean. We slept well.
The staff were all very welcoming and helpful.
The outdoor pool area and bar/restaurant were fab, with the weather being so nice we felt like we were abroad. Kids enjoyed the indoor heated pool too which were clean and a decent size.
A few minute walk to the seafront.
Plenty of parking across sites £10 for 24 hours which was handy.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.

The hotel itself is very dated and tired, and appears to mostly cater for pensioners, however the facilities were fantastic for our family trip. My 3 and 6 year olds loved the indoor swimming pool complex and the arcade, both were excellent.
The location is about 10 minute walk to the beach and 20 minute walk from Torquay marina

The staying started bad by having limited to no parking, we had to go around twice to find a parking spot.
There were no towels in the room when we got there, we had to go to reception and ask for some.
The reception persons were all in a bad mood throughout our stay and were doing the minimum function.
The breakfast we got was decent, and some staff were helpful, you could see they were really trying and quite busy helping restock. However, when prompted to help us with some croissants, they went to check if the kitchen is still open and never came back with an answer. While still having coffee with a fully buttered toast, a staff member came to clean up. It felt as though they were kicking us out despite other patrons being in and it wasn’t around closing time, with plenty of other free tables.
Overall we wouldn’t recommend, awful parking, decent pool, unfriendly staff.

As with all TLH properties the rooms and buildings are in desperate need of renovation, however, the rooms are large and comfortable, beds comfortable. The staff are excellent and the breakfast is always of excellent quality. We've never had the evening meals but they always look excellent. The facilities on site are second to none, pools and steam room etc, bowling facilities and snooker tables etc.

Everything was very good all round. Not worried about having the apartment serviced but had trouble getting toilet roll soap etc... ever aksed the cleaner to drop some inside the door . She said she would and then didn't. Had to go to reception. When i saw her the next day she ignored me. About from that small thing Everything was very good. No complaints.

Car parking at hotel was a bit challenging. It may be wise to consider travel by train ... Could easily walk between hotels and facilities using the internal walk ways. Staff very friendly and helpful. Nice crisp white table cloths. Good buffet breakfast and dinner. Excellent selection of teas and machine made coffees after meals Room comfortable with shower over bath and tea & coffee making facilities. Great live band for the evening dances!

Parking was a problem as its a big hotel and only a limited number of free parking spaces. You could park opposite at leisure centre for £10 for 24hr or there were a few streets a 5 minute walk away for free.
Check in was smooth.
Room was ok, we had a sea view which was nice but windows were so dirty inside and out that it spoilt that view. We had to ask for extra pillows as only one each on arrival but that was quickly rectified by Reception staff. Towels and bedding were clean and fresh.
Breakfast was ok, its buffet style. Sausages were cheap and tomatoe sauce was nasty. All the staff in restaurant were very nice though and would get anything you asked for quickly.
The Swimming pool itself was pleasant but changing rooms were in need of a hose down and the poolside surround was covered in gritty sand so was unpleasant to walk on so recommend taking flip flops.
The drink prices in the bars are ok and the food served in Alberts bar was very tasty.
Evening entertainment was exceptional and fun.
The games room is well equipped and would keep kids entertained for hours.
Overal happy with our stay.

the property and the amenities are great..also the staff at the information specially Gosia is really awesome..but people at alberts restaurant is very very annoying and no manners..and the food is not nice..we ordered bread for starters and 2 steaks for main..and they serve the main dish before the starters..plus the fact that before they serve the food they informed us that they don't have anymore steak knife coz it's been delivered to the kitchen or whatsoever..we understand about the steak knife but serving the main dish before the starter??we talked to the staff at the restaurant nicely asking for our money back coz we told them we're eating the mains already that's y we don't want the starter..but this young lad staff has a very poor manners..i feel sorry for him coz he never learned the most important thing in life..in fact he blamed us that we never informed them that the bread is for starters..but the truth is me and my husband both said it's for starters..and he keeps telling us that it's our fault..and he even lied to us so many times when we said we want to tlak to the manager..he said also his not gonna give our money back coz it's not their fault..and he keeps mumbling on the side..i don't think we will ever eat there again if we come back to that hotel..the fact that their food is not nice..😥

Unfortunately all the TLH hotels re looking very tired now, my brother stayed in the Derwent and he said exactly the same, eith all the wall paper coming off the walls, it needs a lot of TLC and a luck of paint. We have been coming to TLH for many years but all the hotels need decorating and the pool changing rooms were dirty as waa the outside pool/terrace area. There was a sewage smell in all the toilets. Our beds were extremely uncomfortable and the room noisy. The only positive is that all the staff are all so lovely and helpful. We won't be returning unless it gets a full makeover or recommending to our friends and family anymore. So sad as we have many happy memories of the years we have been coming to TLH.

This hotel was in a great location, close to the beach and it had 3 nice swimming pools. The room we had was lovely, it could accommodate 4 adults and had a brilliant see view. The beds aren’t the most comfortable I’ve slept on, but the bedding, towels and room it’s self we’re all very clean. All the staff we came in to contact with were extremely polite, especially Pam, Arthur & Alan who helped us check in and get to the room.

It was the best holiday ever hard in the uk the children 👧 had a lovely time, we didn’t have to find entertainment for the children the hotel had everything to keep them busy. The apartment had everything and it was within the hotel didn’t have to go out if we didn’t want to do near to the city centre and the beach. I would love to go back again but been trying to book for summer holidays but it’s fully booked. All I can say is I will go back there again and again.

The facilities were great when working properly. At some point during my stay, everything except the pools had a temporary issue that needed fixing.
They keep the Spa area in good condition and are expanding to have an 'ice & fire' experience.
There were plenty of evening 'entertainments' to choose from.

The staff were brilliant!
The location is very convenient for Torquay town, Beach, Abbey and all forms of public transport.

Hotel a bit outdated but comfortable. Daily cleaning only ok! Bath not cleaned! On Saturday night the Derwent had a noisy session that went on until early hours making it hard to sleep! However all staff excellent and very helpful, particularly in the restaurant and at reception. Plenty of activities and entertainment for everyone! Would stay again! 😀

A good stay. Hotel is large, plenty of onsite parking. Good location as easy to walk to the town centre etc (20 mins walk)

Room was clean but would of been better with a fridge in the room. Asked for a double but had 2 singles pushed together but still made as separate beds. Bathroom was good but no real toiletries provided. Just a bottle of \"blue stuff\" which we assumed was just shower gel - no label on the bottle. No separate shampoo or anything like that.
Room was quite warm and a fan was available but didnt really have much effect on us. We were on 2nd floor overlooking the bay so the Sea View was nice, if a bit obscured by a tree or two.

Facilities were good. Swimming, games area, bowling etc.

Breakfast was OK. Buffet style so we helped ourselves, as we were then eating a waitress came over and asked if we would like anything from the kitchen like Poached, eggs, kippers etc. Would of been nice to have been told this before we sat down in case we preferred any of that compare to the buffet. Most of the eggs were overdone which was a shame.

All-in-all it was an OK stay.

Weekend stay

We are a family of 4 2 adults 2 children, we all had a lovely time. The indoor swimming pool is amazing and we all enjoyed it everyday.
The only thing I would recommend is the accomadation is very dated and in need of a refurb. We stayed in an appartment, it was lovely but needs fresh paint, carpet -had lots of stains and a new sofa bed as was very well used and old.

Be careful, rooms not like pictures online

This was one of the biggest disappointments when it came to a hotel in my entire life.
When I went online I looked for the best deal down from a 5 star hotel for our staycation. It was not expensive but definitely not cheap. When we got there, the hotel is old, untidy and needs painting, the room was totally unacceptable, dirty and hair in the bath, so obviously not washed. I refused to stay until I was moved to a better room, replaced in an ok room, also dirty but both definitely not like the online photos.
Food was awful, everything was obviously frozen or canned food, we went out to eat, what was the point of paying half board?
Staff try to be helpful,,, but the service is not up to standard when you hire obviously new school leavers or employees with no hotel experience.
While at the reception complaining about parking another guest was leaving a few hours after arriving for the same above reasons.
I’m 57; so been around a while, and unfortunately this was my worst hotel experience so far!,,

Completely mixed experience

The noise at night was unbearable. The bed was uncomfortable. Reception staff were pleasant but the quality across the hotel fluctuated. When arriving for breakfast on he first day we were ignored for some time- another guest prompted the staff to acknowledge us! The breakfast wasn’t great with no variety for vegetarians!
We ate in Alberts and this was by far the worst meal I have ever been served anywhere! The kids chicken nuggets were completely inedible and the veggie chilli was basically a bowl of tomatoes.
The games room was good and staff were friendly. Swimming pools were well kept.

We actually had a lovely stay pools were good we were fortunate to have nice weather during our stay so just chilled. The Aztec spa was great, food was very good too. Only down was the restaurant running out off soya milk and heard quite a few customers disappointed on our last day there. I would definitely book again. Entertainment was very good too

Like that the hotel was within walking distance of the beach and town for things to do plus the free on site parking. Hotel from the outside and in could do with a bit of cash injection as looks shabby but once in all clean and could not fault the attentive staff. Did try to book a couple of spa treatments before we arrived but was told they have nothing. Shame as that is why we did pick this hotel so we could celebrate a birthday with a relaxing treatment.

Great location and good sized car park. Clean/tidy rooms as expected. Really good attention to covid hygiene everywhere. Facilities as described. Reception staff really helpful and professional (saturday and sunday 12th/13th sep). Lots of space with great sun deck area and lots of loungers. Suitable for individuals, families and couples that prefer a traditional british seaside holiday. Didnt use pool or gym but both looked fine.
