The lift had a mind of its own and needed a few presses of the button to arrive. Toilet seat was about to fall off in our bathroom, the shower would not stay up and was only a trickle of water anyway. Some carpets needed replacing in the corridors of the main hotel. However the staff were excellent (dining, bar and reception). Because we booked with Expedia and not direct with the hotel we had to pay £10 per night for parking, something that was not mentioned when we booked.

3nt break away.

Booked a 3nt stay with my 12 year old son. Plenty to do from bowling, amusements and swimming pools so kept him busy. The hotel is quite run down in places and my bed was awful as I could feel the mattress springs but made more comfortable sleeping on 2 quilts that I asked Reception for.
The hotels are right next door to one another and they all link up and it's like a maze. At times felt so quiet walking up/down corridors as it's a vast place and seemed like hardly anyone around especially with it still being the summer holidays but different places were busy at different times.
Breakfast was quite basic but tasty.
A good overall break away and reasonably priced.
**Just a heads up, If you do book through Hotels.com you will have to pay £10per night for parking.

The hotel is looking very dated, in need of repair, painting and there is an off putting musky smell on entering . It’s about ten years since we visited, I like the amenties but feel it has gone downhill the menus haven’t changed, and are very salty, they still play the same piano music in the restaurant as 10 years ago, which isn’t to everyone’s taste. Sorry I was looking forward to returning this year but won’t be coming back again. The bedroom was dark, depressing and it was difficult to watch the tv at the side of the bed .The springs were almost on the surface of the small bed making it uncomfortable. On the positive side the bathroom was good and I was given a mattress topper, which helped a little. Given a make over, it could return to its former glory.

Great location and beautiful view of the water from our hotel window. The room was clean, had plenty of power outlets and had lots of space to open suitcases and relax. The building doesn't have air conditioning but they did include a fan in the room which was very appreciated.
Breakfast was a little confusing because there were apparently assigned tables but we weren't aware of it until an employee stopped us while getting food. Second attempt at breakfast wasn't any clearer as the table we were at previously was occupied by other guests so we just picked a spot and hoped we weren't taking someone else's table. The food was very good regardless.
And the employees at reception were just wonderful! We were staying for a wedding and had flown in from the states so we were a little turned around. They were very understanding and were able to help us book a taxi on our last day. Would love to come back and stay at another one of the TLH resorts to try the spa features. Overall a nice stay.

Stayed as a couple for a late break. Have often seen this hotel but this was our first stay.
Check in was quick with information about the complex, room was on the first floor and was a family room with a wardrobe like Narnia, like other reviews have stated the property is in need of updating, but this said everywhere is clean and well presented. The food is really good, generous breakfast buffet and good evening meals, although we did eat out one evening. All the staff are really friendly and helpful. Would we return …….. most definitely.

Not ideal for wheelchair users

The facilities were well equipped, however, as a wheelchair user, it was not easy to move around the site (no dropped kerbs where they were needed). Our family went to go to the indoor pool early (were given directions by the receptionist) - not an easy route for a wheelchair user, only to discover that the swimming pool was closed. It would have been helpful to have be advised this before going the distance.

The outside looks very tired do not be put off- the inside of the section we stayed in was clean and re decorated though we had 2 rooms one had a nice new bathroom the other one looked 70s.
This is the second time we’ve stayed at this complex .
The pool area is very nice lovely spa but yes it’s all getting old and all needs a bit of tlc.
We didn’t eat there but there’s lots around and it’s a good location for the town and beach . We paid half price deal so was value but full price I would say you could get better but I would stay again (only on a deal)

1: had to pay extra for parking £10
2: had to pay 12.50 for using swimming pool
3: receptionist unwilling to discuss problems, refer to manager who then told me was nothing to do with him and that he also had to pay for parking at the hotel.
3: after paying for parking there were no spaces, told by hotel to park on double yellow lines !!!!!(was unable to because would not have allowed access)parked in marina carpark, extra £12.50)
4: room old , tired, smelt of drains.
5: bed super soft !! Bouncy
6: after trying to sleep in bed i went out to my converted van and slept there.
7: next time will just park my van next to see and sleep !!!!

Booked a family room and expected a bath in the room as it showed in the pictures and description but ended up with just a shower, so not the best with a 1yr old. Room was very old, lack of sockets, our view was of an overgrown hedge! So not overtly impressed with the room at all. However the pool was really nice, food was good and the evening entertainment was really good. Parking was a nightmare, lack of spaces but was told this was because of a wedding going on.

The breakfast and serving staff were outstanding. The room was basic, although we booked a superior room. Booking in was not particularly welcoming, firstly we had to walk around a hazard sign and bucket to be greeted by a receptionist who informed us we were far too early to book in! Long walk and had to go outside hotel to access the pool. The carpeted walkway to the pool complex was filthy dirty and not well lit. You could smell the dirt when you opened the door to the carpeted walkway at 7.15 am in the morning. Had to pay for small towels when using the pool. The female breakfast waitress was outstanding, welcoming and superb service.

We really enjoyed our family break here for the last week of the summer holidays. The onsite facilities and entertainment was really good for both Adults & Children, There is 4 hotels split across the complex with so much to do, read their website before you visit.

We did eat out most days as we explored Torquay but the times we did eat (Breakfast one morning & lunch at the Aztech bar when we spent the day enjoying the outside pool) we found were good. The bed was comfy and we had a decent nights sleep. The hotel is a short 5 minute walk to the beach front.

We did request rooms next to each other or close as' possible when we booked as we are a family of 4 (2 adults & 2 15 year olds) which seemed to get ignored as we were given one room on the ground floor and the other was nowhere near and on the second floor. We did question this on arrival and were told the hotel was fully booked. There is alot of rooms at this hotel so it would not have been difficult to accommodate our request. One morning we went to go out for breakfast and the door had not closed on itself & latched when our children went to bed so the door was left open slightly all night which was very worrying.

Hotel rooms are dated and need some refurbishments/TLC but please do not let this put you off staying as everything else makes up for this. Just check that everything works!

We would happily stay here again and recommend TLH Toorak & the hotel complex.

What a fantastic group of hotels. Stayed in the Toorak but could use all the other hotel's facilities. Friendly staff, free parking and a 5 min walk to the seafront. Room was spacious. Breakfast was good but a little variety would be nice, different pastries, so.e cheeses, especially for us non meat eaters but we loved it here!

They are letting rooms above boiler room, from which there is a droning noise and vibration throughout the night. Room also stank of smoke. Staff did nothing about either issue. I ended up sleeping on the floor in one of the hotel’s function rooms. Hotel refused refund and managed to ruin holiday. Brilliant.

Toorak Hotel revisited after 50 years and had not

Our stay was good my wife had worked there in the restaurant over 50 years ago and said it looked and even smelt the same apart from now being joined to the other 3 hotels.
Being joined to the other 3 hotels meant there were a lot more on site facilities but finding a parking spot was a problem and once we had finally found a place to park we spent the rest of the weekend walking everywhere to avoid loosing our parking space. Generally the hotel was clean and tidy but could do with a lick of paint and the windows in our room needed cleaning thoughly inside and out which was definitely obvious when the sun shone.

Love this hotel

Love this hotel, the staff are brilliant, the food is lovely, and always clean. I have been coming for several years and would always recommend, it is an old building and some areas are dated, it is great for a chilled and relaxed break, if you want to party and drink like an 18 year old then I would suggest this is not the hotel for you. The only problem I have ever had is with the behaviour of other guests !!!!!!!

The hotel is looking very tired. It needs a freshing up. One of the walls in the restaurant has a big stain on it. It would of been great during lockdown to have had that sorted before guests came.
The hotel room looked tired too. Stained net curtains. I reported no hot water from the shower on my 1st night, reported it again on my 2nd night.
Water out of the taps we're very hot but when you turned the shower on, then it was bearly lukewarm.
It's the worse hotel experience I've had in Torquay. I have at least 2 visits a year. This was my 1st and last time here.
On a real positive note the restaurant staff we're amazing. The food was outstanding and very tasty. Plenty of it too. Real credit to the chef and all the restaurant staff for looking after me during meal times.

We refused to stay in the room in the Toorak because it was just awful. The hotel was very tired and in need of a lot of repair but the hotel room was just awful. The bed sheets and towels looked clean but the carpet was threadbare, every aspect of the room was grim…. We rang the THL main call centre and requested a transfer to another THL Hotel the Victoria. The staff were lovely, in both hotels and the transfer went without a problem. The Victoria Hotel was great…. The room, food and staff.

Overall good experience. The hotel and its facilities need a little renovation. The parking spaces are very few in comparison to the capacity of the hotel complex, however you could use all the car parks of the other hotels, and they are all connected either from inside the hotel complex or from the outside. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. The swimming pools are the highlight of the complex, with a decent size outdoor pool and a double heated indoor pool with great capacity. This allows you to save your stay in case it's a rainy day. Customer service is excellent, all staff was lovely and helpful, especially Carla at reception. The prices in restaurant and bars were resonable, not higher than other places you might find outside. I also loved that they have the Aztec Games were you can spend some time with your kids at the Arcade or the Bowling. At walking distance you have everything and if you want to go to the Harbour you can get the little touristic train to get you there quicker and take a lovely walk back to the hotel. Worth a visit also the Torre Abbey Park right in front of the hotel where you can visit the Spanish Barn and the museum. The walk will take you to the seaside promenade and closer beach.

Very good staff, especially the gentleman on duty 15 Aug AM who directed me to a quiet place in the Hotel so I could conduct a Teams with NHS colleagues, he turned on the A/C, lights, asked if I wanted a coffee. Very nice please pass on my thanks. The property is a bit tired, windows broken counterbalance, no A/C, no fridge, landscaping needs sprucing up, but otherwise clean and amazing that any business could have survived being shut down due to Covid but this is long term deferred maintenance needs sorting. Torquay itself was not that charming seaside village I had wanted such as Salcombe was but was instead tatty more or less. Overall a good stay and needed the break after a year without holiday. Thank you.

The staff were lovely and helpful. Close walking distance to beach and restaurants. Do look at booking places to eat before you go as we struggled to get into restaurants. The pool area at the hotel is ok for the kids, but the indoor pool is lovely, unfortunately we couldn’t have the massage we booked due to last minute staff sickness which was disappointing. The rooms were ok, only down fall is that the toilet and sink were loose and moved everytime we used them. Don’t have air conditioning so gets very hot, and not many plug access to use fan, kettle, tv and to charge or use other devices at the same time. WiFi appeared to be good. Nice stay overall

We arrived early and was given a parking permition slip (free) from reception. We then used Albert bar and had food. When we booked in we had a very comfortable room. The housekeeper exelant tea and coffee toped up every morning room made up to a high standard. We used the pool in the derwent very plesant. Entertainment more in the derwent but easily acsesed you just followed the signs .

Excellent hotel for children, staff very helpful, entertainment was suitable for families.
Shame the weather was not sunny but plenty to do in bad weather.
Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Just a 1 night stay before a meeting, The Hotel is part of a group of properties geared towards the tourism industry, and not business travelers. Overall pleasant enough.

The property is very tired looking and needs updated. Food was ok but some dishes on menu repeated. Kids menu didnt change at all. Evening entertainment was poor as same kind of singers in each hotel or bingo every night.

Excellent venue

Great resort, The Toorak is one of 4 hotels at the resort, they have lots of activities. The food is great, indoor and outdoor pools, close to the sea, evening entertainment, well worth a visit.

A hotel with holiday camp touches.

We have stayed here before. The hotel is one of 4 linked together wnich allows an excellent range of facilties and entertainment. The room was a little dated and did not have air con. But everything worked fine. The restaurant was good and they happily provided an excellent meal for friends who were not staying at the hotel. Excellent waiter and wine services. Reception efficient but not friendly. Parking limited.

Nice hotel, but in need of an update. Family room big and clean. Very quite location, but close to the beach and town. Staff very friendly. We would definitely go back there again.

Comfortable break in Torbay

Easy parking. Compact single room. Took breakfast and dinner and the food was mostly very good and wasexcellent value for money. Staff all charming and helpful. I have already suggested they put glasses in the bathrooms and source local breakfast sausages.This hotel is part of a larger resort - the other hotels on the site are more highly rated which may only reflect more up-to-date decor.

Great weekend away with Grandchildren.

Lovely weekend away with grandchildren. Staff really helpful and polite in all areas of the hotel. Indoor pool excellent, to cold for the outdoor pool but would be great in warmer weather. Large indoor games area, pool tables, arcade machines and ten pin bowling really good for poor weather or to pass an hour after tea. Half board, great buffet breakfast and plenty of selection for the 3 course evening meal plus children's menu if required. Plenty of different bars to suit all tastes and drinks reasonably priced. We parked on arrival and didn't use the car again until we left as it is a nice walk into the town, and sea front. All in all ideal venue.
