Location: good, ten minutes walking distance far from the Colossium
3 minutes walking distance from the bus stop
it is located in a very calm neighbourhood
the hotel is an apartment inside a resident decades old building
so you are a kind of experiencing the real residency in Rome
the receptionists were so helpful asking answering my questions
breakfast is to be deliverd to your room on the time you request between specific hours and it is good
it is rather a kid of house rather than a fancy hotel
cleanliness was ok but now wow
it is a bit dark in the night to walk in that area but i was coming back so late and no issue happened
it is close also to some ancient heritages of old rome
overall it was good but little expensive

We liked our room very much. We had a bottle of wine on our private porch that runs the length of two sides of our room. There was a cool breeze blowing through our room while we enjoyed the view and relaxed one afternoon. Our bed was comfortable and we liked the bookcases full of books on a myriad of subjects.

Amazing staff, Nice room and a wonderful breakfast

The staff is so warm and welcoming and really go out of their way to make sure your stay is enjoyable and easy. The breakfast they served was very nice and we had a different meal every morning for the 3 days that we were there. The only downside is that you are away from the main tourist attractions, but if you are open to walking or taking public transit I highly recommend this place. :)

It's ugly hotel within an apartments

It's a hotel inside an apartment. So just imagine an apartment unit is broken down into several rooms and made into a hotel. Besides, the environment is literally not safe, this means that there are a bunch of drunk boys who stares at girls like they haven't see one before plus the lift to the hotel smells like as in someone has pee in it. This hotel is literally a down market kinda hotel. No breakfast, no security and the rooms looks like a freaking cell.

Perfect place to stay in Rome!!!

Gorgeous flat in the residential section of Rome but just a few minutes' walk from the tourist attractions. Also restaurants in walking distance as well. Breakfast was perfect as well.

The hotel has excellent location - pretty close to Colosseo and at the same time away from the tourist busyness. The nearby bus 81 gives a convenient way to reach Piazza Venezia, Piazza Navona and even San Pietro (although the bus is not so regular). The neighbouring area east of the Colosseo is packed with good not-touristy places for dinner. Not at the last - a clean and quiet hotel with a really friendly service.

Good location for walking to coloseum and bus

Only negative is getting into place on arrival . Metal locked Gate entrance with intercom which is not always answered. Staff have limited English. Otherwise excellent continental breakfast. Quiet clean room off beaten track. All you need to have comfortable rest after sightseeing. Would stay here again.

I will not recommend this hotel apartment at all to any one who are willing to vist rome there are better place first of this hotel apartment too deep inside narrow Street not easy to find it i took barely 2 hours to find no reception gate was closed i had try to call hotel contact number not respond at all i was freezing out for 1 hour to open main gate.

Finally some one out from same building i enter inside no sign bond which floor hotel rooms i couldnt in check i gave up than walk half hour other side i found other hotel i did check in i was already paid for this hotel advise 148$ next day i sent email no response than i again approached direct to hotel aroun 4pm i press bell door half hour i stayed there no one give answer main gate was closed didn't even reply my email my 2 night money gonna.

Please dont waste your time to book this hotel same price u will get better place near restaurants bar grocery as u can see the main gate closed i sent picture.

AMAZING PLACE!

Anna was an amazing host! We arrived at the B&B and accidentally forgot one of our cell phones in the taxi cab. Anna immediately called the taxi call center for us and, eventually, we were able to retrieve it. The room was small but very comfortable for what we needed. Breakfast was plentiful and excellent. On our last day we had to leave before breakfast was served and Anna left a voucher four us to get breakfast at a very close cafe. Amazing! Very quiet neighborhood, perfect for people who don't mind sacrificing some space, but who still enjoy great service, comfort and quality. I would come back here without a doubt!

60th birthday surprise 5 day visit

Quiet location, 6/7 minute walk from the coliseum and Baths of Caracalla. Local bus service close by which provides good access into the old city, alternatively 40 minute walk which was my preferred choice as you get the chance to see the sights at your own pace. There is so many things to do you need a minimum 7 day holiday to fit it all in.

Be careful there are many street vendors trying to sell overpriced tickets avoiding the queues at the main attractions. We found queues took no more than 15 min with some venues free e.g St Peters Basilica and tickets upto half the cost of the so called \"beat the queue tickets.

Amazing value and great outside space

We really enjoyed our stay here. The apartment is spacious and comfortable with everything you need and more. The decor and facilities were to a very high standard. The kitchen was very well equipped and the huge balcony/terrace was lovely to sit out and have breakfast and drinks.

The staff we met were helpful and friendly. They assisted us in organising a taxi and looking after our luggage for the day when we had checked out.

The location is a little outside the city centre, but in 15 minutes walk you can be at the Colosseum. We took a bus from the train station when we arrived in Rome, which was quick and simple (you buy your ticket from the newsagent in the station then there are timetables and an information point outside). There is also a bus (number 81 I think) that goes from the end of the hotel street straight to Vatican City.

The 'hotel' is apartments within a residential building, so could be a little more difficult to find, but we didn't have any problems.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wish it could have been longer, highly recommended.

It was a true italian experience. The rooms were beautiful and clean with all the facilities you need for simlplistic living. Their was no kitchen facilities or common area available, but there was a beautiful big park very near by which was excellent for relaxing and picnics. Lots of restaurants located nearby, many of Romes main tourist attractions and a hop on hop off bus stop all within a 15minute walk. The city centre and Rome Termini train station were also within easy walking distance making it very convenient to get to all areas of Rome as well as daytrips such as Florence. Very pleasant experience.

Perfect Hotel!

Absolutely perfect! Friendly and highly informative staff. Great location; only a short walk to the Colosseum. Reliable taxi that they can arrange (if you're going to take a cab from the airport I recommend using the one that Dormus Caracalla can book for you. We tried a random one and he pretended to be lost and that his gps wasn't working - I had to direct him using google maps on my phone...). They explained the bus to us, the route it takes, how much and where to buy a ticket - very handy if you're going to Vatican City. The room was very spacious and charming. I would highly recommend this place!!!

Domus Caracalla is a pretty good budget hotel. As previous reviews mention, it's a good 10mins walk uphill from the Colosseum. I would google map the street and also review some of the exterior images (this will make it easier to find). We found the breakfast to be ideal. A great start to the day. We were disappointed with our room (Room 4), I believe it's the only one without a balcony, and since we were staying for 5 x nights (during my birthday), we were gutted not to eat breakfast out there. The two ladies on Reception seemed smiley and very nice, however it was difficult to get information regarding getting to the airport (Ciampino) from them (non committal and trying to sell taxis for 50 euro). To anyone travelling to and from this airport, we recommend the Terravision buses - they are only 6 euro one way, but word of caution: remember to buy the bus ticket in a Terravision café in Termini - you won't get on the bus without a pre-bought ticket.

This place was really nice and the staff was very friendly. The only problem we had was the staff was not there when we arrived. Since we were from out of the country we did not have mobile phone service to call. We had to walk the street looking for someone who would let us use their phone. Luckily we found some nice people from Canada who had international phone service and let us call the hotel to notify a staff member to let us in. Once we did that and got into our room everything was perfect. I loved the balcony view.

Very clean B&B

This is a B&B, but the rooms are much bigger and very clean. Apart from the fact that there are only 6 or 7 rooms the place can easily be ranked as 4.5 - star hotel. The desk is not manned 24/7 but the staff will make every effort for you to get into your room any time you arrive. I arrived after mid-night yet i managed to get into my room without a problem. Just respond to their email on time and all will be sorted. Again, breakfast is served in rooms and they come over to clean after. Great staff, very helpful with tourist information and cleaning. For cleanliness I will rank them 5-start. Great place to stay, i enjoyed it and would book it again on my next visit to Rome.

Small but charming

Really nice hotel. At first it looks like your entering a rough housing block but it's actually quite nice. Everything is locked up but that can be overcome. Tiny elevator at back to take you to the b&b and then you enter and it's there. Staff were so friendly and welcoming, happy to help with anything. The rooms are a bit scuffed here and there but they are cleaned. For the price it's perfect for 1 or 2 people.

So lovely

My husband and I traveled throughout Italy for our honeymoon and stayed at this hotel during our time in Rome. It was absolutely perfect!

It's a little bit difficult to find because it just seems like a residential building, and there is no obvious sign. It simply says the name of the hotel on the tiny list of residences within the building. If you plan on arriving after hours and will not have a cell phone, I would recommend communicating with the owner ahead of time.

The hotel is a short walk to the collusseum. It's across town from the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain though. But I really liked that it was in a nice quiet area away from all of the tourists.

The \"hotel\" is a handful of rooms on one floor of this building. The rooms are very clean and have great wifi and air conditioning. The owner, Pusha, is so kind and lovely and she makes a very nice breakfast each morning to bring to your room. She was even kind enough to mail something valuable that I forgot in my room all the way back to the U.S. for me. I couldn't be more grateful!

I would highly recommend staying here if you're visting Rome. We stayed in various places during our trip and this was definitely one of our favorites!

I booked online, based on the price, the location in relation to where my business meetings were, and the reviews. I didn't quite know what to expect - it is a B & B rather than a hotel, but the accommodation is fine and the arrangements simple and effective. I didn't appreciate that it was important to call ahead before arrival, because Reception isn't manned full time, but it wasn't a problem, because I was able to ring on arrival.

Great little place off the beaten path

Very quaint and unbelievably great value for the price. My room was small but cozy and modern and everything you need. Breakfast was very good and arrived right on time. It's a bit difficult to find (no sign outside and you need to take the back elevator to the 6th floor). A little far from the metro (20 min walk or so) and the main sights. But for the price it can't be beat. I would stay again and also recommend to others.

Domus caracalla is a small hotel (5 rooms), but don't let that put you off. The service was excellent. There is no on site restaurant or bar, but there are so many excellent places to eat within a 10 minute walk from the hotel, that that doesn't matter. Breakfast is brought to your room at your speciefied time. Admittedly the hotel is a bit away from the center of Rome, but the walk past the Colosseum is truly spectacular.I would totally recommend Domus Caracalla.

Friendly atmosphere & great location

The lady who runs this B&B has customer service second to none. We were a bit confused by the layout of the building, so she came down to meet us. On check in we were given a map & shown the best routes to go for the major attractions, plus which bus numbers etc to use. The room itself was great, large double, kettle, good sized bathroom. The room was exceptionally clean & had free wifi. The TV had the best reception & range of travels that we had experienced during our trip around Italy. Breakfast was served in our room at the time we chose the day before & it was prompt, fresh & non-intrusive.

I would definitely return here, and would recommend it to all, it's location was so convenient (15 mins walk from the Colosseum) only 3/4min walk from public transport

Lovely hotel,quirky set up.

We have had a lovely 10 days at this hotel and have been looked after really well. Breakfast was brought to our bedroom every morning at the time we requested. This usually consisted of croissants, toast with jam and cheese spread, yoghurt, coffee, fruit juice, fruit and sometimes salami. The room had everything we needed including kettle with tea bags (no coffee)We did ask for an extra pillow and that was no problem. Our receptionists were lovely and helped us with information and the best places to see during our stay.

A wonderful place to stay

We enjoyed staying at the Domus Carcalla so much while we were in Rome we kept finding excuses to come back to the room during the day, just to put our feet up and relax (and beat the heat!). It was such a lovely facility and the woman running it was absolutely delightful. Breakfast brought to your room at the time requested, coupled with the lovely balcony, high end finishes and comfortable bed and linens made this an absolutely wonderful place to stay! Not sure when we'll be back in Rome but we would definitely stay here again!

The breakfast was lovely and the staff were friendly and helpful. There are no outside markings to identify the hotel, just its name on the intercom to \"buzz\" the staff. Also, there was no hot water available in the late evening on two of the four evenings we stayed. It is within walking distances to many sites...I would stay here again.

Well located friendly quiet hotel

Fabulous place. I was initially worried when we arrived at the old building down a quiet side street but had no reason to be, when we got in it was lovely, good decor very clean and lovely balconies and ensuites to each room. The staff were fantastic, from giving us a map and pointing out where to eat and get the best ice cream to even telling us which bus or tram was best to the Vatican. Well situated within 5 mins walk of the colosseum and the roman forum and near to some lovely eating places whilst still far enough away to get a good nights sleep away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Fab little place. Would definately recommend and if I ever go back to rome I would stay here again. Great value for money too! If you go you will not be disappointed.

We were shown to our room and given a map by the lady who looks after the hotel guests (I believe that some of the rooms were privately owned). She showed us the location to all of the main attractions as well as letting us know the best route to take (walking, bus etc) and where the cheaper places to eat were that still had decent meals, which was so helpful. She asked us to choose a time between 7.30am and 9am for our breakfast to be brought to us (on the balcony or in bed) and were asked what we would prefer to drink and eat (traditional european breakfast - croissants, salami, toast with a variety of jam, fresh fruit, coffee or tea, fruit juice and yoghurt). Our room was clean and quite modern and were swept and cleaned every day whilst we were out and she even called a taxi for us on our last day to take us to the airport in advance (we had no chance in booking one as they spoke no English at all). Great location, right near the Colosseum with traditional, inexpensive restaurants in the surrounding streets. Would definitely recommend! A little tip - the hotel will email you before your arrival to find out what time you will check in as I believe that the lady is only there from 7am - 3pm. Also, the buzzer labelled Domus Caracalla at the entrance didn't work so take a note of the hotel's phone number so you can call them and ask to be buzzed in when you arrive +39.392.6225574

My wife and I stayed there for 4 nights. It was very good. I was expecting small European hotel rooms but this one was a standard size room that I am used to. The breakfast was good with its pastry and drink. The room we stayed in had a balcony where we sat to eat breakfast and hear the birds chirp. It was good experience for our first time in Rome.

I found a lot of good reviews about the hotel--the primary reason I went with this one. I, however, was not overly pleased with my stay. I rarely write reviews, and I am not going to spend all day spelling out the issues we had. That being said we were disappointing with the breakfasts. It's nice they bring you breakfast in the morning. But, they would sometimes show up late or different from what we asked for. In addition, they weren't much of a breakfast. A croissant and a cappuccino is all you should expect. We went in the winter and the heater could not keep up with the cold outside. We spent on night freezing and had to wait until the morning to ask for an extra blanket. The staff was nice enough, but they did not go out of their way to help to acquaint you with the area. Finally, the bathroom had a stench emanating the whole time. I believe the shower curtain had collected so much mold/soap scum, that it was stinking up the bathroom. Overall, it was a nice enough place to stay, but I think we were expecting more. Of the three hoktels we stayed in during our trip to Italy, we were most disappointed by our stay here.

Italian breakfasts are nothing more than toast with jam (without butter) - disappointing, but probably usual here, as my friend had the same in his hotel.

Perfect place to stay for trip to Rome.

This hotel was ideal for the purpose of our trip to Rome. It's perfectly placed and allowed us to see all the sites on foot with the exception of Vatican City, however the Metro stop was only a short walk away.

Breakfast was delivered to our room every morning, at any the time we specified (between 8.00-9.30am). This means you're fuelled for a day of site seeing and can focus on finding nice eateries for your lunch and dinner. Breakfast can be taken on the Balcony (if you are lucky enough to get one of the Balcony rooms). We were not so lucky, but our room was more than adequate. Maybe next time!

Hotel staff are very friendly and can help you figure out your itinerary. Upon arrival we were met by a gentleman from the hotel and advised where to check in, however it is advised to try and phone ahead to inform them of your arrival. They also organised a taxi to take us to the airport for €55.00 on our final day, which saved us having to sort anything out.

Highly recommended!

This place exceeded my expectations. The location was great, it was within 10-15 minutes walk to the Colosseum and it was also served by bus routes very near by.
The room was extremely clean, the beds were comfortable, the room was relatively quiet allowing a good nights' sleep. The staff were very friendly and helpful with any information you required. Breakfast is brought to your room or balcony (if you room is equipped with one, not all rooms are) daily between 7-9:30 am, depending on when you would like it. I would defiantly stay in this accommodation again if I were to return to Rome.

10 minute walk from coliseo and our 4 bedroom had 2 bathrooms - completely unexpected in Rome. There is not anyone around to assist you with directions or getting around the city. They are just there to check you in and then to serve breakfast in the morning. They leave shortly thereafter so if you need a place that provides more information about sites or services you will be out of luck. But for us, it was truly a great find.

The room was comfortable, modern and clean. It is walking distance from the Colosseum and public transport. It's a good idea to notify the B& B of your expected arrival time, especially if after 3 pm (2pm on weekends). The B&B is not obvious from the street. We gave the taxi driver the address and fortunately he knew it and buzzed the hotel for us and our host came to show us the way. The street is a quiet residential area. Once you find it, it's well worth it. Staff are very helpful. I would stay there again.

Rome's awesome little secret.

This little B&B is a slice of heavenly calm in the big bad city Rome can become in the busy summer months.
the premise is in a well-heeled, clean residential part of town and provides a welcome haven from the bustling city. However, the major attractions are literally within a comfortable 15 minute walk. There are plenty of cafes and bars dotted around the area, as well as a convenience store not a minute's skip down the road.
The proprietor and staff were really sweet and welcoming, and their care really showed in how beautifully presented and immaculately clean our room was.
I can't Vouch for the breakfast as we had to leave really early in the morning, but i have no doubt that they provide a delightful spread.

Handily placed B & B near the centre of Rome

The Domus Caracalla is a B & B establishment located in a side street (Via di Sant Erasmo) just 10 mins walk to the Colosseum. The rooms were located on the 6th floor of a block of flats. There was no signage for Domus Caracalla at the entrance. We had difficulty finding staff and reception as our flight had been delayed and we arrived an hour later than we had told staff. Our room had a shower, but no bath. It also had no kettle or sachets of tea and coffee. On the plus side, the staff were friendly,polite and helpful. They recommended a good local restaurant (Trattoria Dei 40) and they brought us a lovely breakfast (with tea and coffee) each morning at eight o' clock. They also were very apologetic about the wretched 2 Euro per night \"Tourist Tax\" which the Italian government has forced all tourist accommodation to levy on visitors. All in all, Domus Caracalla is a handily placed B & B close to the centre of Rome.

Lovely B&B but slightly out of the way

Very professional and helpful staff. Breakfast brought to room was adequate, room cleaned every day. Two flights of steps before you reach the very small lift - not suitable for people with mobility problems. Be prepared for a 10-15 mins walk to Colosseum or a short bus journey into town. Make sure you have the exact address for the taxi driver. We read the previous reviews and knew what to expect. Overall a very enjoyable 7 nights stay for our family of four adults.

Too short of a visit...

Only stayed here one night when coming through Rome. Was difficult to find the entrance, through one building, into a courtyard and then on the 6th floor of the next. However, I enjoyed the remoteness of the room once we were there. Shower was a little cramped for my size, but most Italians aren't my size. This meant the bed was also slightly short for my gf and myself. I'm 6'1\" she's 5'11\". Regardless I slept well.

The staff was wonderfully pleasant and helpful. I will definitely consider this as an option for future visits.

Good value for money

Room was very large and comfortable. Breakfast is a bit basic. The room had a balcony so you can eat breakfast outside. The hotel is close to the centre, about a 10 min walk to the Colosseum. However, it is on the wrong side of a hill and if you are with young kids it can be a bit tiring pushing the pram over it after a few days. There is a bus stop at the end of the road if you get sick of walking over the hill each day. All in all it is a nice hotel but factoring in the value it is a very good hotel.

Absolutely WONDERFUL little jewel of a hotel!!

We were positively THRILLED with our choice of hotels in Rome . . . We stayed here for three nights and just loved it. It's a little far from the train (we walked there when we arrived, and it took about 45 minutes. Cabs are very easy to get, though, and it wasn't expensive to get back to the train station when we left), but is totally worth it. The hotel is on the top floor of an apartment building and is very clean and has just been updated - the room was quiet, gorgeous and the bathroom was fantastic. Pusha, on the hotel staff, was wonderful - extremely helpful and friendly! The location was incredible - once you get there, you can walk to most of the major sites in the city. We decided to take a bus to the Vatican, but the bus stop was right down the street and Pusha was very helpful telling us how to get tickets, etc. Great restaurants nearby, and, did we mention that the Colosseum is a 5 minute walk away?!?!! The breakfast was lovely and was served in our room, which was very relaxing. We definitely will stay here again if we find ourselves in Rome - we won't even look anywhere else. Really great deal place . . .

B&B rep was helpful, and let us leave our luggage there before checkin time so we could go sightseeing. Breakfast time is from 7:30am to 9ish, so not sure about the quality of the breakfast as I had to leave before 7. Reserved the largest apartment with a queen bed and 2 twin beds. Both beds are comfortable. All rooms were relatively clean and tidy. The TV channels are all in Italian.

A hidden gem!!

On arrival we thought we had made a mistake as this is actually an apartment in a block but don't judge a book by its cover. We did as the instructions stated when we booked and were met in the courtyard. We were taken to our apartment and shown around, then we were given advice on transport. The view from the balcony was a little obscured but the Basilica Peter was visible as was some of the Paletine hill. The breakfast is ample, the staff friendly and the bed comfortable, the wi-if was temperamental but worked. This hotel is perfectly situated as it took just 10 minutes to walk to the Coloseum and then on into the rest of Rome's great history!!

Great B&B for the money

I stayed here for 3 nights. Loved it. Could not be happier with the what I got for the money. Bathroom and room itself was extremely clean and tidy. Beds are comfortable. Great selection of TV channels. A/C works wonders (I was there in mid August). Breakfast on the balcony is fantastic. Could not be happier. Note, several blocks from the nearest sights and must walk uphill for 15 minutes to reach Colosseum.

Fantastic trip to Rome

The B&B is located just 10 minutes walk from Colloseum. You will be given the set of keys to let yourself in and out, as the receptionist is only present until 4pm. The room and bathroom and pleasingly clean, but very good standard if you consider it's only B&B.
The bathroom had clean towels and complimentray toiletries.
Breakfast is very humble, not the buffet that they advertise. You will get couple slices of toasted bread, jam and salami, coffee and juice. It's enough though to start the day and explore culinaries of Italy.
The receptionist was extremly helpfull when it comes to recommending taverna, public transport etc. Must try is carbonarra in nearby taverna on your walk from B&B to colloseum.
On my return to Rome I will definetly stay again at Domus Caracallla.

Pleasant place to stay

This is a lovely little block of rooms in a quiet apartment building. The rooms are good sized and well lit. Breakfast is served in your room every morning and can be catered to your specifications. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and generally spoke good English. The hotel is located on a quiet residential street but is just a couple of blocks away from busier areas so access to shops, cafes, and buses is quite easy. The colosseum is 1/2 mile away, as well as the metro line.

it was a nice hotel.the shower was great and we had MTV as well as air conditioning in the room so we wouldn't get too hot or cold.issues include lack of toilet paper and having to ask everyday for more.no kettle so we couldn't make our own drinks.probably the main thing for us was that we signed up for a buffet breakfast but we didn't get that.breakfast was ok but it was served in our bedrooms everyday.our room and beds weren't massive so it just didn't feel right have breakfast in bed everyday.the staff language skills weren't the best but were nice.towels etc were not changed everyday.

I took my wife and 12 year old here and we loved it. The staff were excellent and spoke good Engish (well, some beter than others!!) which was helpful. The guest house was immaculately clean and tidy. If I had to find a bad point then I would say that its locations is not perfect. It was a bit of a walk to get to the sights but my 6 months pregnant wife managed so it cant be too bad! All in all, a wonderful place to stay and wouldn't hesitate to recomend.

Tiny, but meets your needs

The room was tiny, but very space efficient, modern and clean. It met our needs for a reasonable price at a good location. The staff was very courteous and attentive. This is a guest house, not a hotel. It is not signed from the outside and not staffed 24/7. I sent a letter giving our arrival time. A gentleman waited outside and met us, showed us in, gave us our key and took our order for breakfast the next morning. We really felt like we were treated fairly and very hospitably.

Great Hotel and Staff

For a B&B, it was an excellent deal. The receptionists were very helpful and friendly and they did not charge me for an extra coffee and a broken cup. It is hard to find people speaking English in Italy and usually, hotel staff is rude. The hotel was simply great and I would stay there again. It might be a bit of a disadvantage for some people who don’t like walking since it is 20 min walking distance from the closest metro station (coliseum) but if you are between the age of 15 and 50, you are still young to complain about it so go for it.

This is a 5 room Guest House on the sixth floor of an apartment/condominium in a residential neighborhood. Excellent location for sight seeing, and shops, yet very quiet both during the day and night. The service was excellent and the management speaks several languages including English.

Great location to hit the major tourist attractions

Very difficult to find hotel unless you knew where you were going (no hotel sign or indication that you were anywhere near a hotel - only able to I.D. by a small label next to a buzzer on the building.) Then, had to take a labyrinthine trip through courtyard into second building and an elevator up to 6th floor. But staff was very helpful and room was clean - simply but nicely furnished. Air conditioning worked well. Nice patio outside room (though we had to climb through the bathroom window to access it). Breakfast was alright but don't order the sausage (very greasy).

Big selling point: Bus stop to major attractions was very close to hotel (#81 takes you to the Colosseum, Roman Forum (both 5 minutes away by bus, 20 minutes if walking), Trevi Fountain and Pantheon (15 minute bus ride), and Vatican (30 minutes). 10 minute walk east to San Giovanni Laterno church.

Travel Tips: Avoid getting a room close to the front desk (noisy) and don't forget the 1am curfew! Would have preferred a safe in our room, but no issues with security. For someone looking for a basic room to venture out and tour from, a good place to stay. And if you're holidaying in August, prepare to look long and hard for a restaurant or tobacco shop that's open. You'll find things open close to the big tourist sites, but that's about it.

Good touring option

The domus caracella is an excellent choice for staying in rome. Very clean, great air con. Compact but well appointed rooms with excellent showers. Staff all very helpfull at all times. It is a bit of a trek to the nearest sites and metro about 10 mins. Dont be put off by the outside locale the place itself is lovely.
The walk up hill to start your day allows you to pick up water from the market, six bottles for 85c rather than the 5 euros at the collesium. Use the buses and the metro, they are cheap and effiecient

Very good stay

Stayed here for 5 nights in early June. The hotel is about 10-15 minute walk to the Colosseum/metro. You do have to walk slightly uphill and then downhill to get to the metro. There are two ways to reach the hotel by public transport. You can either take bus number 714 from Termini station, ring the bell after you pass by the hospital on the right hand side. Other way is to take the metro to the Colosseo stop on the B line, you can then either walk to the hotel or take the number 81 bus for 2 stops, ring the bell after you pass the park on the right side.

There are 5 rooms as stated, mine had a balcony so had breakfast outside every day. The room is small but very clean, not a big deal as I'm there for sightseeing. It's in a apartment building so it has a very authentic feeling of what a typical Roman family life is like. There is a small lcd tv but most of the channels are in Italian, only watched BBC news. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

The only complaint I have is about the breakfast, you do get to choose from a list but if your a big eater it's not enough. It's based on per person so if your a couple you get two glasses of juice but no more than that. There is a charge of 2 euros per item for any extras you order. The other minor thing is that there is a 1AM curfew, not a big deal so don't stay here if you're a party person.

Quiet, clean, and comfortable

The bed & breakfast was clean and comfortable. The staff was very nice and quite helpful. The surrounding neighborhood was quiet, perhaps too quiet. The nearest restaurant or business was a 10 to 15 minute walk. My minor complaint is the elevator. The b&b is on the sixth floor of a residential apartment building which is serviced by and elevator installed in 1959. If you have a lot of luggage or a large person with you... You might need to take two trips.

Domus in December

Our room was pretty small but was very clean. Updated bathroom with towel rack warmers! Balcony had a decent view but we didn't use it, as it was a bit chilly in the am. Very secure, needed to buzz to get in, but you can't stay out late. We found a couple of restaurants within walking distance. Quiet neighborhood. We were content with Domus.

Location was a ten minute walk from Colosseum, on the quiet side of the action. For the money it was a great value, and we loved the quaint building with its old-world elevator. We highly recommend it.

Good overall, but some problems

Positives:
- Our room was nice
- It had a good balcony with a decent view of the Palatine Hill
- The breakfast was pretty good on most days

Negatives:
- The TV didn't work the whole time we were there (6 days)
- The hotel is hard to find (it's in an apartment building) with very little labeling
- The evening lobby worker was rarely at her desk and provided very poor service (note that she only has to work until 1am):
-- One day, we were locked out of the hotel for 30-40 minutes because she wasn't at the desk and didn't answer the door after we rang the buzzer many times.
-- Another day, the shower alarm was pulled in another room and because she wasn't anywhere in sight the alarm was going very loudly for at least 30 minutes. When she eventually showed up, it looked like she'd been sleeping in one of the other rooms in the hotel. We asked her about the alarm and she just blew it off like it was no big deal, despite the fact that it was preventing us from hearing or doing anything (our room was right next to the lobby).

Overall, our stay was good and we felt like we got a good example of genuine Roman living. The biggest recommendation we'd make is that the evening service in the hotel needs to improve.
