This charming traditional inn is located in the village of Alijó, next to the Douro River. Its name is homage to Joseph James Forrester, an English Businessman, who lived in Portugal during the XIX century and who in 1855 received the title of Baron from King Fernando II due to his dedication to the state and his contribution to the Douro and the Port wine.

Befitting for the name the historical hotel features vineyards and it is close to some of the most famous producers of Port wines. Located in the center of the village, it is inserted in the Douro Demarcated Region, making it the perfect place for a relaxing holiday.

Inside the Palacete, the Restaurant 'O Barão' offers a varied menu, inspired by traditional Portuguese cuisine and the use of local products. Slow cooking, great presence of vegetables, sensible use of spices, simplicity and harmony of the flavors of the dishes, is the set of these elements that characterize our cuisine.

Room clean but would benefit from a bathroom update.
Commented on noise because election rally went on till late across road from hotel both nights of our stay. Realise we were just unlucky to have this.
Staff friendly and also knowledgeable about Port and where to buy it cheaply.
Would love to come back overall.

Beautiful estate home converted into a hotel. Had a lovely overnight stay. Their restaurant is fabulous. Room was very comfortable. Since we were here in the Fall, the hotel was very quiet. Only a few guests. Service was excellent.

Not impressed with our stay.

We arrived at the hotel and found that the room did not correspond to the pictures on the website. Renovation work was in process. The room was very dusty. The floor is scratched and the furniture has seen better days. Te bathroom is old style and needs renovation. The air-conditioning did not work. The sleeping with open window was not a good choice as the room was giving on a busy street. Wi-Fi is patchy.
After making a complaint, we were not able to change the room, as apparently the hotel was fully booked.
The ray of sunshine of our stay was the good evening meal and the breakfast that is served in a nice ambience. Free parking is available at the hotel grounds.
Let´s hope that after renovation the hotel gets back to a decent standard as advertised.

2 nuits dans cet hôtel élégant et calme. Grande chambre avec vue sur la piscine. Literie un peu ferme. Salle de bains grande et fonctionnelle mais meritetait d'être rénovée. Restaurant très bien lors des 2 diners à la carte : mets savoureux, bien présentés, service impeccable.

Hôtel à fuir.Le bâtiment contrairement aux autres pousadas n'a aucun intérêt, ni pour la localisation ni pour sa dimension historique. Si par malheur vous séjournez un samedi soir, fort risque que l'hôtel soit réservé pour une réception de mariage : espaces communs totalement privatisés, bruit très tard dans la soirée... Un cauchemar !!!

Vi bodde der med med to voksne barn i to døgn. Utmerket hotell som svarte til forventningene om å være av høy klasse. Eneste minus var elendig wifi. Forøvrig god service. Pent oppussede lokaliteter både på rommene og i fellesarealene. Anbefales. Men bør ha bil for å komme rundt i den flotte dalen.
