Anna greeted us upon arrival and not only checked us in, but walked us to our room. The property is wonderful, clean, well attended and in a perfect location. Staff are always available and smiling. Breakfast buffets are numerous, plentiful and delicious. We enjoyed our room with a balcony overlooking the river very much.

We enjoyed this hotel. We had a lovely room with a terrace overlooking the Douro River. Dinner in the luxury dining room was excellent but expensive. Bar food was good and reasonably priced. The pool was nice. We enjoyed the town with winery visits and boat trips. The only really odd thing was that the bottom of the shower door does not come to the floor and water flooded the bathroom floor. This happened to our friends also, so it was not just our room. You learn to stand in one small spot to wash. Odd, I would say.

Beautiful place with very professional friendly staff. I had a lovely stay. This place is centrally located and can walk (or hike) to many Quintas nearby. Very clean and comfortable. The Breakfast was great. I had dinner in their restaurant with some modern twist- fantastic experience.
If you like peaceful yet comfortable place with old charm- highly recommend.

Beautiful old hotel. Property outside with the vines making a garden is very romantic. Close to many wineries, we even walked to some. All staff speak perfect English. The rooms are large, our bathroom in the Junior Suite room was huge, with a circular step in shower/tub. Balconies are small with no room to sit and relax with 2 tiny uncomfortable metal chairs. The view from the balcony/hotel is just Ok, not what I expected since the hotel is at the bottom so all you mostly see are the large boats parked in front of the hotel. It’s the same view from the pool and restaurant since the hotel is at the bottom not the top of the hill. Breakfast is excellent, huge variety, good service. My biggest concern is the quality of the AC. Ours barely worked and was already set to the lowest rating of 5 degrees Celsius by the prior room occupant. I knew there was no point in complaining since another guest was arguing about AC in the lobby when we checked in. In our room there was not even a AC vent in the bathroom and it felt like a sauna after trying to take a shower. When I mentioned to the staff that they need to completely gut and replace the AC system, she said it was replaced last year, so something is really not working well. There is also a train that runs next to the property during the day but not at night

A perfect stay

We enjoyed our stay here at this beautiful hotel. The view from our room of the Douro river was amazing. The hotel staff were all very helpful and friendly. We had an absolutely delicious dinner in the hotel restaurant and the breakfast buffet was wonderful. The hotel location is perfect; the waterfront, wineries and the town are all within walking distance. A perfect stay!

Huge but ageing wine country resort with massive rooms and tired furnishings that had all seen many better days.
Service non-existent and although one Porter was very helpful, other staff were consistently uninterested or resentful of visitors.
No in-house dining other than buffet breakfast and little outside dining options available.
What appeared on the website was a luxury resort but we were very disappointed and we would not recommend.

We had to go back home unexpectedly for a family emergency. Even though we contacted the hotel, they still insisted on charging us for a one night stay at their hotel. One day I hope to return to Portugal and continue our vacation, but we will never stay at the Vintage House.

Lovely hotel and experience!

I highly recommend The Vintage House to anyone who is staying Pinhao. It is a lovely property with great service, very clean, good food and ambiance. We had an early train and since we didn't have time for breakfast, they provided a bag lunch for us that included sandwiches, croissants, pastries, an apple and water; perfect! All in all, a great experience!

A slice of heaven. Discovered this place 0n a day trip a year ago and knew we had to return for a stay. Now we have to return for several days. So comfortable and beautiful. Highly recommend to anyone who likes wine or not. Love this place, truly a hidden gem!

I say almost because there were two disappointments: the lack of a mirror in the bathroom is/was hard to understand and accept; this was one disappointment. This is a great property that is located close to restaurants, Douro river boat rides, and wineries. All rooms have excellent views and the property has very nice amenities. There are also hiking trails close by that are safe. We would definitely stay here again. The only odd thing about the property is that the staff was not as friendly as every other hotel we stayed in during our two week vacation(there were seven). It was off-putting not to have them say hello when we entered the lobby but it wasn't a deal breaker for us either; just odd. FYI, as a VIP property they did upgrade us when we reminded them of our benefit and received a nice bottle of wine.

This supposed 5 stars hotel charged us 368 euros per night, but offers zero amenities, they do not have a SPA, the rooms are old, the river view was blocked by trees, no elevator to access to the rooms, and the grand finale was the train passing each hour making the building tumble. We decided to leave the hotel and change into a better one.

My husband and I had a wonderful time in The hotel and the area. Service was great. The breakfast delicious and the hotel restaurant was amazing. The room was comfortable and a good size. The only things we would rather to be a little different to make our time there pristine was the air conditioner that it wasn’t cooling the room enough and the head shower that was the loose ones you find mostly in Europe. All in all a really good time.

Douro very Unic but it’s doesn’t make sense if the room is very old and the air conditioning is old and only makes noise but doesn’t work and doesn’t cool the room!!! You can’t sleep!!! It’s very expensive and don’t worth it!!!!!

A most beautiful place

The only question remaining after our visit was: Is this one the most spectacular hotel locations in the world? If you are a wine lover and you appreciate vineyards and 5 star class food, then the answer could be yes! The Vintage House is first class, and with half/board, represents a great value. The staff are professional and friendly. The breakfast is perhaps the biggest buffet I have seen outside a large cruise ship. The evening meal on the second night, was the best gourmet meal from our three week stay in Portugal, and we had many other fantastic meals! We would highly recommend; they have an extensive wine/port cellar and the concierge directed us to some great vineyard tours. Vintage House exceeded our expectations.

The location of this property on the banks of the Douro and the grounds of the hotel were both wonderful. Very easy access to boat tours along the Douro and a great walk along the river bank. This is a great old hotel with character but our room was a bit tired and dated compared to our rooms at other hotels we stayed at throughout Portugal. The salad my wife ordered at the bar was small and tasteless.

Lovely stay in Douro Valley

Our room was great with a lovely view of the river and the valley. The staff was very helpful and kind. We were celebrating my daughter’s birthday and the hotel restaurant staff brought a cake with a candle. And when we got back to our room, a bucket with champagne and glasses was waiting for us! It was such a wonderful surprise! On our last night we sat outside the beautiful garden overlooking the pool and the river and enjoyed our drink and cheese plate before having dinner at Bomfin just a short walk from the hotel.

Beautiful Hotel

I mostly enjoyed my stay at this beautiful hotel. The hotel is enormous with many elegant public rooms that are furnished with gorgeous furniture, paintings, etc. I enjoyed drinking wine and cocktails in the splendid Library bar (this was a cool refuge from the oppressive heat outside). My room was good size and comfortable. The hotel staff were friendly, helpful, and attentive. I have 2 criticisms which are both related to their restaurant. On my 1st night, I was informed I could not have dinner in their restaurant until 9 PM because earlier time slots were fully booked. I was unaware of the need to book dinner reservations before arrival at the hotel. You have the option of ordering dinner from the library bar, but the menu is limited and different from the restaurant menu. I made dinner reservations for an earlier time for the other nights of my stay, but I was very annoyed by having to eat so late on that 1st night; particularly since a stroll past the restaurant at about 7:45 PM revealed a few empty tables. My other gripe was forcing restaurant diners to eat outside on the terrace when it was uncomfortably hot out. The temperature during my 3 day stay ranged between 104-107 degrees F (40-42 C). I literally had sweat running down my face while dining and was waving off flies. Unpleasant. On the 3rd night, dinner was held indoors. I suspect the hotel made this welcome change because of complaints received from the night before.

Beautiful hotel and surroundings. A view of the vineyards from almost everywhere in the hotel. The staff were welcoming, quick to please and hard workers.

The restaurant hours listed were not followed so be aware it may not be open at all times. They also encourage reservations before you arrive at the restaurant as it books up quickly.

The sound seemed to travel between rooms easily. Might suggest putting people with children together as we were woken each night by a crying infant.

Stayed here one night during our trip to Douro Valley. Location is right on the river and view are decent. Room are clean but dated. Didn’t receive the 5 stars experience you would expected at this price point. Fairly disappointing stay. Food at the restaurant was below average. Wouldn’t recommend.
