Sitting at the pool, reading and spending time taking in the breathtaking views with a bottle of wine.

This is probably my first hotel review. I felt I needed to get a review as a thank you to the exceptional service we received at this place. They could not have been more accommodating and nicer. The hotel location is a probably the best location I have ever been too; truly breathtaking. I strongly recommend it.

Our stay here was great. The owner and staff were friendly and very accommodating. Service was good, a little slow at times but understandable since they were short staffed. Buffet breakfast included and very good. Snacks and light meals available throughout the day which was nice since you are far from everything. A la carte dinner which we chose the first night but dinner is served at 8:30pm (which turned out to be closer to 9:30 because of lack of staff). Meal was very good but too late for us. It was nice to be able to choose from their daily menu for an earlier meal.

What a fabulous location and property with great views by the pool (small but great especially enjoying some nice rose wine) & nothing was too much trouble for Beatriz and her team even tho it was very busy. The food was delicious & even tho a fixed menu, we loved it all and a great breakfast. Shame we were only staying one night.

Oh my goodness. I don’t even know where to start. I had never been to Portugal and didn’t mean to fall in love with it. But I have fallen in love with Portugal and this property and the amazing people in it are the reason why. Most beautiful and most relaxing, welcoming place. I hope everyone reading this review goes and finds out for themselves. Most beautiful hosts, most breathtaking location, most amazing rooms, wine and meals! I hope to get back to Portugal soon and when I do, it will definitely start with a night or few at this property. Thank You for your hospitality!

This place was wonderful. The staff was so helpful, kind and hardworking! They catered to all our requests(wine by the pool please…) with smiles. Beatrice, the owner, works her tail off to make sure everything is done right. Her staff, Christina, Candido and others are just as hardworking. Driving there is an experience but worth it. Dining there is a must(plus-you don’t want to drive at night with any wine in you) We highly suggest this property and will tell all our friends to stay here.

Expensive stay, isolated location, bad management

I have mixed feelings about Quinta do Silval.
The area in Douro Valley is breathtaking, it worth a drive. But did it worth a stay?
About the drive, DO NOT FOLLOW your GPS or Google Maps as you might end up like us on a very steep horse trail in-between the vines. It was our scariest drive EVER.
About the stay: This is a winery, right? But there was no welcome drink, none, not a bottle, not a glass. You need to pay for every little thing.
The room was rustic and comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and clean.
The wine tasting is a 25 euros joke. The person presenting the wines had zero knowledge about wines (a white, a red, a late harvest). We had the sweetest wine first, and the wines were mediocre. We looked online, and yes, Quinta do Silval makes fine, expensive ports.
The restaurant offered dinner for 35 euros per person, and it was, again, mediocre and expensive. No beverage included! I bought half a bottle of late harvest, and the bill was made for a full bottle. I needed 3 dialogues in 2 languages to get the right price on the bill. The breakfast was OK. But the coffee machine did not have beans until late.
There is a pool, very clean, in a gorgeous surrounding.
Overall, we paid almost 250 euros for both for one night here.
We do not recommend this site, sorry. It is badly managed, it is bluntly an expensive tourist trap, as there is nowhere else to go.

Average everything except view from pool area!

Room is very small for 3 adults and located right outside the main reception desk. Dark, and no view but parking lot from only window in room. Breakfast was average. Woke up in middle of night with bathroom floor flooded from a leaking toilet. Brown water on the second morning in shower and tap. But, positive was the view from the pool area. Felt it was overpriced for the quality.

Totally dissatisfied with the Hotel. No service No food No information! I cannot fault the views which are amazing. However details on the advertised hotel is completely wrong! There is no restaurants/cafes nearby by. You would have to go by cab costing €25 to eat. The hotel offers dinner only €32 pp and no vegetarian option. The breakfast is extremely lame at the best of times. Asking for an iron was too much trouble for the the staff. In fact my kids had to eat the snacks we had bought with us as there was no lunch as the kitchen was closed. Beautiful bar but not open. Very little staff to help and limited to resources.

The property had an amazing view. The Quinta was in the valley away from the city, so it was serenely quiet and very beautiful. It was lovely to have a view of the valley from either the nice picnic area or the well-maintained pool area.

The Quinta do Silval also offered a private wine tasting with the owner. It was nice to be able to have the wine with a bit of background as to how the wine was produced.

Amazing hotel!

We had an amazing stay at this hotel!

The hotel was beautiful and clean, however the people there were the best part!

We enjoyed a wine tasting and dinner there and this was arguably the best meal of our trip. Highly recommend the cheesecake.

We will definitely return to this hotel when we are back in Portugal.

Heaven on Earth!

Staying here two nights made my whole vacation! I can't say enough good things about this hotel, their wine, their amazing staff and their delicious food. We felt pampered, welcomed and after two nights there we were completely relax, in love with the location and left planning our next return. Eduardo and his staff were extremely nice and went above and beyond to make sure we loved our stay - which we did. Take full advantage of their wine tasting and their food! They make their own olive oil (which was delicious) and all of their food was fresh (eat all of their seafood, it's to die for). Some of the reviews say the rooms are outdated - they clearly don't get the point/vision of this place. My boyfriend and I come here to disconnect, enjoy each others company, eat delicious food, drink amazing wine, learn more about wine and have great conversations. All of my expectations were met and exceeded. We will return and plan to stay longer!

1st of all we had a main floor room with NO air conditioning ! We couldn’t the window because people walking by could look right in! Beds were uncomfortable and couldn’t sleep well . We were there a few nights and the first night the fire alarm went off at 2 am and they never said why and when asked they said nothing they could do about it!! Finally , charged us a corkage fee for drinking our own wine ! Not impressed!!!

Great views and service, mediocre restaurant

The Quinta is in a lovely location with beautiful views of the vineyards and hillsides. The staff bent over backwards for us, allowing us to check in late and do a wine tasting with dinner. Our earlier tours in nearby Pinhão had run long, so we didn’t get to do the normally scheduled tour and tasting at 1730, thus our special request. Staff member Daniela was super helpful with our last minute changes, and the man who did the tasting with us was extremely engaging and pleasant. That said, the room was rather plain, the bed was rock hard, and the dinner and wine tasting were considerably overpriced given comparative meals and wine in the region. Breakfast was also underwhelming.

Beautiful scenery

We stayed 2 nights, the room was lovely with a beautiful view. There is a pool that also has nice views, especially at sunset. The staff, breakfast and wine tasking with Eduardo were exceptional. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

You can do better for the price

Although the views are incredible and it is located not too far from Pinhão, the walls of the room were paper thin as you could hear anything. The breakfast was ok, but some real coffee instead of this weird machine would have been better. ( I had better service and breakfasts in hostels) Although you are staying on a vineyard, no wine/ port was offered.

Staff are extremely friendly and go out of their way to be accommodating. However, the overall room and facilities (cannot comment on pool as it was closed when we visited) are somewhat dated. There is a constant humming noise from the wine storage units that takes away from the otherwise rural environment.

Top-notch quinta in gorgeous place

Our stay in Quinta was top-notch. From staff to the views. We came late at night so we did not see the beauty of the valley, when we woke up in this beautiful view we were amazed, first words was wow. It was one of the most beautiful places in whole Portugal. Manager Eduardo showed us around, gave as information about wine, told some interesting history. They producing very good wine so you can have a tasting over there. Just one tip before you going better contact this place for directions, there are more than just one way to come and one of them is ''for horses\" :D. Overall amazing experience, would recommend it for everybody. Thank you!

Absolutely stunning setting!

The setting of this Quinta, the helpfulness of the staff, the beauty of the pool set off by the stunning Douro Valley, made this one of our favorite stops on a recent 11 day visit to Portugal. The fact that you could have a \"homemade\" dinner right on site enhanced the rest and relaxation of the experience . The staff is ready to bring you a glass of port or local wine at poolside! Dinner is another opportunity to sample the wine of the region along with local dinner favorites.

Beautiful hotel in a lovely location! Pool area was great and very quiet and relaxing with views across the Douro valley! We stayed 2 nights and ate in the restaurant both evenings- the food and the service was fantastic! We took part in a tour of the winery and tastings which was very informative and enjoyable. The staff were friendly and helpful and really enhanced our stay with their knowledge of the wine and the local area. Easy to find with sat nav and clearly signposted in both directions at the entrance to the property. Would love to come back and stay again!

Could be glorious. Poor food.

The location of the property is superb, a car is essential, and first impressions were that the hotel would match, everything is clean and smart. We loved the pool area and changing rooms.
Unfortunately we were disappointed by a number of 'niggles' Firstly, having booked some months ago, for 3 nights, we were undoubtedly given the worst room in the property - right outside reception so we had no privacy at all, and had to keep the curtains shut while we were in the room. It was pretty noisy as well as people would talk loudly in reception or outside our window and the insulation between rooms must be very poor as we could hear someone cough all night ( thank good ness for earplugs). We asked for a move but were told the property was full ( it probably was - of people staying one or 2 nights) .Particularly annoying as the property is available on air B+B at less than we paid !
The worst aspect was the food. Breakfast was ok, if you were lucky enough to get what you wanted while it was available. Coffee cold and bitter. Dinner very mixed - first night it was ok. Final night it was almost inedible - low spots being salmon extremely dry and tasting of vinegar, and a dessert that was so awful I sent it back.
The staff are very pleasant but we found we had to remind / ask them about basic things more often than we would wish, we are not given to complaining and felt a bit awkward. It just needs a bit of improvement in terms of customer service and it could be great.

Short stay in Douro valley

The track to the hotel is very steep and easy to miss. Once there the views are fantastic and the hotel is very peaceful. Because you are isolated it is awkward to go out elsewhere at night and although the food at the hotel is quite good the range is limited. The cost of food and drinks is good value and the staff are very friendly. It lacks an indoor communal sitting area but it is otherwise a very good base if you are only in the area for a few days.

A jewel in the sky

The property is beautiful and well located to Pinhao and other Quintas - such as Quinta do Lavandeiria do Rancao - one of the greatest tawny producers in the Duoro. The rooms are very nice, the pool area just gorgeous, and the staff is very good, with Nuno being excellent and highly accommodating. However, I would not recommend the dinners, unless you have had too much to drink and don't want to drive anywhere. While the food is very good, the prices are so high and the portions are so small that I felt almost cheated. The wines are also very expensive and not worth the money, at least the still wines. They produce Ports as well, and despite the fact that they were aware that I am a huge Port and ancient Tawny collector, I was not offered a single sample of what they produce. And at 130 euro for a 500ml of their 30 year tawny, I was not about to pay for such an over-priced wine without a sample. Even with a sample I would not pay that price no matter how much I enjoyed it - there is simply too many other great tawny at far better value. Additionally, the staff was way over-worked, so expect to wait for dinner items and build extra time into checkout as they will still be cleaning dishes. This was an issue with other guest as well as I helped one older couple to find staff so they could check out. I would like to see improvements on that and I would stay here again, however, I would head to Pinhao for dinner. Also, WIFI was very poor in my room.

Beautiful quiet location

We had a wonderful time at this peaceful retreat. My husband, adult daughter and I stayed two nights. We went wine tasting and on a short boat ride. We drank wine on the terrace in the early evening, at the beautiful hotel. We ate dinner here both nights as well, and it was delicious. It was a great, relaxing time!

Boutique Hotel with personal touch

This was the peak of my Portugal trip. Douro is lovely and even though the location of the hotel is remote, you don't feel the drive after dark. The main reason is Jaime, our extraordinary and intellectual friend/waiter made all the difference. I was lucky that it was not busy so we did have great conversations with Jaime. You can see all the stars in the night and lovely view of the vineyards. The room is clean and spacious with a great view. This is the romantic getaway place fot a couple and great spot for a wine lover. Jaime being the star, the whole crew was very helpful. Do not expect a hotel chain service, this is a very cozy, friendly and personal boutique hotel. Thanks to the crew and Jaime

A Wonderful Choice for a Douro Valley Experience

Advertisements and photographs are 100% accurate. Staff is very friendly and obliging. Meals were excellent. Dinner seemed a bit expensive, but considering what must be the delivery costs, probably understandable. House wine is spectacular - perhaps not a surprise, as this is a working vineyard.

Very secluded, very quiet - roughly 10 min from Pinhão up a steep, winding road. Great staff - very attentive. Wine is only OK, but the dinners were very good and the breakfast buffet excellent. Furnishings and rooms are a little rustic, but that adds to the charm. The pics on the Expedia website are very accurate, and the view poolside is absolutely amazing. Clientele was from all over - Portugal, Netherlands, Germany, USA. Had a great time chatting with folks. I'll definitely go back.

Stunning Views and Quaint Hotel

We stayed two nights and were blown away by the amazing views. Smack in the middle of the Duoro vineyards - 360 panoramic views of vineyards and a short drive to Pinhao and many other vineyards. The pool was relaxing and romantic and we enjoyed a wine tasting and delicious home cooked meals every night. Breakfast is included in the affordable price!

Wonderful location, comfortable room. Dinner on the first night good, on the second night my fish was so small, my husband shared his dinner with me. (I do not have a large appetite) The owners ignored us totally - to the extent of passing on the stairs with no acknowledgement. We wondered whether we had offended them in some way? But I can't imagine how. The staff were exceptionally helpful and charming.

A nice quiet base from which to explore the area. The owner was lovely and the staff worked hard. This may be good or bad, depending on your perspective, but the wifi is not available in the rooms farther from the restaurant/reception.

An excellent, friendly country inn

A very comfortable family-run inn attached to a working winery. Daylight arrival is highly recommended, as it is reached by a twisting corniche road cut into the hillsides, and a very steep driveway. Taking the road from Penhao toward Alijo, you pass by one village and you will find the hotel's driveway sign-posted on the left about a mile farther on. The rooms are simple but very comfortable, with well-appointed bathrooms. There is good water pressure, and the water temperature is consistent. The restaurant on the premises serves good food, a great convenience since looking for restaurants at night along the tortuous roads is a trial. The staff is very friendly, couldn't be nicer. They are generous with the wines produced on the property -- red and white Douros and Port (Magelaes label). The location is very scenic, amid steep hills covered with terraced vineyards. An
excellent place to stay in the Upper Duoro wine country.

Will certainly go back

What a nice place in spectacular surroundings! A pearl hidden in the Douro valley! Our thanks to the team, particularly Celso, who made our stay a very memorable one. Our only deception was to be there a week before they started the vendanges! The room was very comfortable, the food was of great quality and the wine was so good that we purchased several bottles to bring back home... in particular their gold medal 2000 Vintage port. We are already planning to go back for a longer stay.

Outstanding service, incredible views, good food. If you are looking for wild parties and a conga round the pool this not the place. For a quiet relaxing holiday in a fantastic place there are few places better. Worth a trip on the river at Pinhao. Easily reached by train.

Breathtaking location

Clean and cozy hotel nestled in a valley of awesome 360 deg-view of the vineyard terrain, especially while eating dinner or sipping wine. Very personal and warm service from the lady owner and her staff. Great wine too. Short drive away for a romantic boat ride on the scenic Pinhao river, which can be arranged by hotel as well. Highly recommended.

Perfect Break

Absolutely beautiful hotel and surroundings. The owner and the waiter were brilliant and we had a fantastically chilled time drinking wine or sunbathing by the pool. As we were the only guests at the time we felt that they couldn't do enough for us. The tour of the winery and the food were very good too.

Oustanding Stay at Quinta do Silval

What more can you ask for, excellant accomodations, excellant service, excellant food/wine and spectacular scenery. Clara and staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable at Quinta do Silval. Its always nice to arrive at your location and find that everything you were hoping for was better than expected. Quinta do Silval is a gem tucked away on a hillside overlooking beautiful vinyards.We took the opportunity to try the food offered at this Quinta and were not disappointed. We arrived in early November and had the Quinta to ourselves for 3 days and 2 nights. The rooms are comfortable and nicley decorated with all the amenities and the grounds were immaculately landscaped. Quinta do Sival was our favorite stop during our trip to Portugal. We will be back soon. Thank you to all the staff and owners at Quinta do Sival for making our 25th Anniversary and stay so special.

Hotel Rural Quinta do Silval in the Douro

Really beautiful surroundings, very good service, and delicious wine and foods. We really enjoyed staying here even though it was a bit hot during the days. Very quiet and relaxing atmosphere, great place to enjoy the area as you have great views in all directions. The staff was very friendly and helpful though not intrusive at all. Have already recommended to others.

Superbe view, great service!

This hotel has the greatest view and the nicest people working there. It is surrounded by vines and fruit trees close to the Douro. We spent a night there during the week, in August. It was very hot and so the pool was much appreciated. The staff and owner took great care of us and took the time to explain how the hotel worked and how their Porto wine production worked as well. The food and wine were very good too. The only glitch was the air condition in the room, which did not work well for us that night (and opening the window was a bad idea because of mosquitoes). Did I say the view was spectacular?

Nuestra estancia en este hotel rural ha sido simplemente inolvidable. Desde el primer momento, el trato ha sido exquisito, y no podemos dejar de mencionar a Beatriz, cuya atención, cercanía y calidez han convertido nuestra escapada en una experiencia mágica.

Las vistas son un auténtico espectáculo, de esos que te obligan a parar y disfrutar del momento. La piscina, perfectamente integrada en el entorno, es de ensueño: tranquila, cuidada y con ese toque especial que invita a relajarse de verdad.

Un lugar al que volveremos sin dudarlo. Gracias por hacer que este viaje en familia sea un recuerdo para siempre.

Worst hotel experience in memory

Unfortunately a prepaid two nights’ stay - if not, we would have left. Very small ground floor room - only view is pillars outside. Rude service and a hostile hostess, that would not do anything to solve various problems. Poor food to outregous prices the first night, and «Fawlty towers» style service in the dining room. Not easy to escape for dinner, because Pinhao with other restaurants is almost 10km away. But luckily we did the second night. But the view from the hotel and vineyard is beautiful…

Great views but avoid the food

The location of the hotel is amazing, there are views in all direction.
Unfortunately, the service is very poor, the staff is rude and unfriendly. We had a three course dinner at the hotel the first night which wasn’t only expensive but the quality of the food was extremely poor and tasteless.
